11:00 PM
[open] Hi o/

@Laff fa

There are 4 unhandled reports, 3 of which are on your ignore list.

@Laff 1

Skipped 3 ignored reports. Opened 1 report.

11:14 PM
@ArtOfCode @Undo If I'm not mistaken, there's a button that admins have to make it so that Metasmoke checks a post again for deletion status right?
Any chance you could make that available to core instead?
so as to prune reports out of the undeleted section

sounds like the same button that purchases blinker fluid for you
not sure I remember anything like that going in there

J F
@quartata That would mess up our deletion stats.

@JF Why would it? Those are organized by "time to deletion"

J F
@quartata yep, and if you check for deletion a week later, the TTD is 1 week.

11:17 PM
of course that's a thing

Of course.

reminds me, actually, I think I've run out of blinker fluid, maybe I should get some more

my blinkers have been acting up lately...

I had a bottle somewhere to mess with my sister. I teased her a long time ago and she figured out it wasn't real. Then she visited and I made sure the bottle was obviously visible in the garage

and now she's unsure again?

11:19 PM
@JF Perhaps a max cap then
I'd say it's better than it not being counted at all though
if a post took so long to be deleted that it doesn't show up at all

@quartata for stats purposes we cap at 3600 seconds, but it still messes with them

Heh. She was for that visit at least. I'm pretty sure she knows at this point it's a gag

> Good for up to 6,000 blinks

is that meant to be 6.00 but european, or a typo of 6,000, or 600, or what
such inconsistency

J F
@WELZ I’m pretty sure it says 6,000.

11:21 PM
that's what I meant, oops

say

while we're all here... Art's Random Request of the Day: anyone got experience planning traffic marshaling and parking for a ~500 person event?

Technically the only reason MS gets deletion information at all is because of Meta Tavern
if an instance didn't have that room enabled, it would not send MS deletion information because it would never spawn a deletionwatcher
really makes you think

J F
@quartata O.O

@JF Well, it's the only room with the deletionwatcher role
ok I really should redo deletionwatcher

11:25 PM
I think MS holds deletion sockets too, actually
maybe

I don't see it anywhere
If it does then we should stop sending deletion info though, not very reliable
if an instance restarts it'll stop tracking
Also we open a socket per post which is bad

eh

you only need 1

as with all - it's best-effort deletion log tracking, not must-be-accurate

having MS track it entirely would be better though

11:28 PM
@ArtOfCode No, but I could come up with plausible sounding advice

@Undo that's... basically my strategy :)
tl;dr: concert got dumped in my lap cuz I'm the only one who's remotely interested in sorting traffic

What do you know about the event?
Big difference between a 500-person family-attracting event vs. a 500-person single-attracting event
The latter gets you ~500 cars; the former far fewer

average group size is probably just under 2
it's a school, so the only fixed parking is the staff parking

You have a field or something to dump cars into?

that's like 30-40 spaces, I'd expect more like 300-350-400 cars

11:31 PM
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Title has only one unique char: ----------------------------------------- by Max Marine on math.SE

????
malicious edit

Better, I've got the school multi-purpose sports yard to dump 'em on

@GuyFsone What's up with that edit? — Undo 6 secs ago

paved surface \o/

I'll handle that one as far as I can
@ArtOfCode Marked?

11:31 PM

@Undo not with parking bays :P

they rolled it back, probably a cat

yep
@ArtOfCode You can get those little orange cones for basically nothing
What's your budget?

entrance to it is narrow, one lane, two if you get small cars

@ArtOfCode Single entrance? You're going to have a heck of a time during exit time
also, possible fire code issues?

11:33 PM
@Undo yeah, budget... wouldn't that be nice ;)

Enlarge entrance with hammer?

Basically this just got dumped on me, it's in a week, and we have no equipment and limited manpower

egads

it's gonna be a best-possible solution, not a perfect one

how on earth did this become your responsibility

11:34 PM
And you're probably not allowed to get a can of orange spraypaint or something?

@quartata parents are in the concert
@Undo unlikely, but might be worth exploring... if it washes off quick then the school might not mind too much

tsk
seriously

@ArtOfCode If you have good weather, maybe look for some powder-based stuff? I know there's non-permanent types

well I'm gonna be there for the day of rehearsals anyway so I may as well make self useful... this time making useful means traffic

I'd definitely try to make some reasonable looking lines on the ground, at least in the first few spaces to establish a pattern.

11:36 PM
yeah, worth a look
@Undo I'm hoping I get one or two other people to direct traffic, then someone can actually marshal the first few into the spaces we want 'em

That'd help
also, maybe enlist a few cars to seed the parking formation

...very possible
orchestra bring excessive numbers of vehicles

remember that people are going to naturally gravitate towards the front of the lot (whatever's closest to the event), so probably fill front to back
Otherwise you'll have people just ignore your marshallers. At least you would in America
no one wants to park in the back when there's clearly spaces left in the front

@Undo this is one of the few bits I actually know the Proper Theory (tm) of - ideally, you get a good idea of the number of vehicles expected, figure out what spaces you're gonna use, lay them out as close to venue as possible, then fill that from back to front

Think about whether traffic inside the lot will be one-way or two-way. One way will likely work fine while filling (and give you better density), but it'll be a mess when people are trying to leave

11:39 PM
idea being nothing is too far away from the venue so nobody ignores marshals
need to get me some aircraft marshalling sticks too...
not because they're necessary, just because they look cool

maaaybe also think about whether people will be alcohol-ified on the way out? Give them bigger spaces to maneuver their death machine through.

@Undo fortunately not... Apart from the VIPs. But they get fancy shmancy cars and chauffeurs anyway

that probably helps

Hey no mayor coming to this one, so no having to reserve spaces that don't get used

Handicap parking?

11:53 PM
answer might be "good luck"
reserve a few at the front maybe
