Q: Does including a link to our website in a post automatically constitute spam, even if relevant?

GnemlockA new user asked a very off-topic question; as a music composer, they asked what game developers look for when hiring a music composer. As part of the question, they note that they have created a website, to which they include the web address. They proceed to ask why a game developer would go for...

@Stijn: I added a "Read-Only" mode to FIRE. if you update, you should now see an extra button when it asks you to authenticate for a MetaSmoke write token.
Is "Processed meat" a SE bot or something?

I think it's basically Feeds' alter ego

I'll try FF on WinOS

12:42 PM
But since AIM is affected as well, it could be a metasmoke issue.
Or it doesn't like two parallel websocket connections?

@SmokeDetector k
Hmm ... that still works.
I'll keep an eye on the console to see if it happens again.

I'm not seeing it

@CalvT the answers look like they're useful (but maybe plagiarized - that's another thing worth investigating), and the user might not know the rules about self-promotion on Stack Exchange. Your comment is good for now, but it's worth linking to How not to be a spammer. If the user doesn't react, you can use a custom moderator flag. Some mods will delete the posts, others will just edit out the links.

Ok, thanks, I'll add the link in a separate comment. Only thing though, is that the body of the two answers are identical, but kinda make sense for both questions as they are similar. Could be plagiarized, but the guy has written a blog post on it

Hello

hola

@ArtOfCode How was the week here
I wasn't active much because I had my preliminary IHK exam this week

@Magisch mostly not broken, apart from blacklists
still have no idea why those are broken

refreshing

1:49 PM
7603 autoflags
with Charcoal members getting significantly more because of the reserved thing

@ArtOfCode Just curious...what's the criteria for that? I haven't noticed an increase in mine, but I may be losing to others with different conditions

@Andy have the Core role
that's all there is to it - there are ceil(max_flags / 2) flags reserved for people with that role

Cool. Apparently, I'm just not lucky with random selection then.
This is why I don't play the lottery

@Andy Actually, there has been a small increase in the number of flags you're getting. It's not bigger because you've only got flags enabled on 5 sites.

Bawh?
goes to look

1:55 PM
@ArtOfCode neat

Site count is 5 in your preferences

I aced my preliminary exam
so I'm pretty happy about that

nice

@Magisch so your partial absence here did have a positive effect after all. Nice!

@Glorfindel oh. Should I remove my feedback?

@FelixSFD shrug it's borderline.

3:44 PM
@Glorfindel She didn't clearly write that she is the owner of that website. And it's her only post, so this can be easily understood as spam. Since the post is quite old (and FIRE didn't flag, because I don't have an account there yet), I would propose that we are nice and edit the post instead of flagging, but keep the tpu

''I would propose that we be'' You should use subjunctive there
#Grammar_Nazi_FTW
@FelixSFD There are usually few places where higher level learners make a mistake, one of them being subjunctive. English's subjunctive has shrunk during the ages and is a really weak system now, so some people abandon it altogether

6:06 PM
@Magisch Ah, that'd make sense.
So it's opt-in; you don't just get mail out of the blue asking you to give away parts of your body

It still may not be the case but at least its close enough that they want to do further testing
No I specifically signed up for this

Gotcha

it was an option when I first donated blood to also do that
In any case, I at least plan to go to the further testing and see what happens

@Magisch I'll stick to giving blood, but I admire your altruism.

@Glorfindel It's made out to be no worse then giving blood

6:12 PM
but ... you said they might knock you out, and you predicted you'll be gone for a couple of days. When I donate, I'm usually able to engage in sports a few hours later.

If they have to use the second method

where they drill into the bone and suck out the marrow, I bet

The first method that's described as being used most often involves getting 2 shots a day at the hospital for 4 days and then going in to get your blood funneled through a machine for 4 hours

... I'll pass.

meh
I don't know if i'll actually do it yet
I don't have to commit until I think 2 weeks before

Anyone familiar with getting a (user)script authenticated with SE?
I'm trying to figure out how to get that to work for FIRE... Not that simple.

8:43 PM
Whatcha stuck on?

Using their authentication API
Which is kinda overcomplicated for what you need to do

That won't work. Not for a userscript

you can't include a script in a userscript?

that's not the issue

8:49 PM
issue is redirect URIs

Exactly

Does it allow you to register stackexchange.com as your domain?

This is what I've got now. Working pretty well so far
It does, but then it throws an error that the redirect urls don't match
redirect_uri has to be http://chat.stackexchange.com
Or .so.com for SOCVR
YIKES
That thing accidentally opened a new page on chat load...
Which redirects to chat

hah

which opens a new page on chat load...
I'll try again in a new window xD
That's better, just opens 1 new window that has the access token in the location hash :D

86400 seconds is one day, seems plausible

Right
That makes sense
So the tokens need refreshing every ~day?

Something like that
Unless you pass no-expiry

Very tempted...

9:14 PM
shrug Honestly, why not?
It's not like the audience for this doesn't know how to invalidate tokens if they want to

expires = new Date(new Date().getTime() + (expiresRaw * 1000));
Yeap, it's in seconds
Yea, I'm not gonna worry about that.

I will note that storing data in a cross-browser frame makes manual deletion of data somewhat less intuitive.
