@ArtOfCode For authentication (need to know the key) to the blacklist tracker. I was going to digest whatever data was sent along with a timestamp that would be sent with it
anyways the point was I didn't know if there was something else you prefered that Metasmoke could do easily but it looks like you're computing HMACs in GithubController for the webhooks so you have a gem or whatever to do it already
@quartata I'm failing to see the point... why can't we do what we do with everything else? Have a list of keys, and check if the client sent a key from that list?
Some people explode. Some people post nonsense on the internet. Some people blowtorch their laptop. Some people get up from the computer, take a deep breath, knock their heads against the wall, and sit back down.
@quartata you're talking to the crypto nerd :P crypto is good, but it has to be realistic crypto. There's no gain in defending against things that are very unlikely to happen
Does anyone here know anything about limelinx.com? I removed a link to it from an old post recently because all I could see was a bunch of annoying in-your-face ads.
I opened it and it locked my computer. I think I disabled internet quick enough that it didn't lock out the whole thing. Limelinx.com is complealty bad
It comes up that my computer has been blocked and my username and password is needed to access the website. Or I have an option to call them "toll free"
That's tricky. The combined weight of a bad NS and a .pk or .ir website is already close (148) to what some people have set for autoflagging on some sites which are spam magnets.
Is there a way of setting up notifications if I am not pinged. I know the number comes up at the top but is there a way that they flash on my desktop??
@Glorfindel should we raise the default autoflagging threshold and ask all users to follow suit, or artificially reduce the weight of the NS rule, or something else?
@JakeSymons there's a userscript which plays a boing sound and displays a badge for every spam notice in this room
@tripleee I don't think we need to do anything. 150 weight is low, but it has the required accuracy. If people have their autoflag threshold set to 150, then false positives is what they signed up for.
@JakeSymons you could but that's annoying, above all else for yourself when you're away for a week and try to find out whether there were actually useful pings in your inbox when you come back
@JakeSymons no, it's just the ping suffix on those notices ... if it grows long because many users sign up for notifications, it obscures the reasons so you have to click to see them, but most users here already have userscripts which fetch the full why list for them anyway
there was heated debate over in the SOCVR room when the suffix list there grew long, there was one user who could not be reached to ask him to disable pings, appanrently precisely his inbox was already full of them
@JakeSymons the notify command requires two arguments, the room id and the site you want notifications for
@JakeSymons A few more "hard" criteria: You need reputation on at least one site and a history of good flags. You need to participate in a room that SmokeDetector posts in to deal with posts. Permissions are granted based on your history in the room and your history on the sites. Participation generally grants you reputation, so more participation = more reputation.
It's important to know that you can utilize SmokeDetector's reports and flag without providing feedback here. You can deal with the bad posts without needing permissions to the bot.
@Mithrandir this is an example of an overtly broad regex but it contributes good spam detections enough of the time that we live with a few FPs (though I suppose it could probably be improved to reduce the FP rate)
^ well for Jake really; Mithrandir sorry for the spurious ping
It'd be nice if you got 200 reputation on one of the sites. That makes you qualify for the association bonus, so you can cast actual spam flags everywhere.

@JakeSymons eh ... no. They post that, hoping you will dial that number. Which is probably an expensive service to call, and they'll keep you on the line.
