@ArtOfCode Did that rhyme on purpose?

@ArtOfCode We should maybe have a list of topics to discuss handy when it happens

@Magisch If we've got a few things that would help us pick up on spam, then they'd be useful to throw over to the team, yeah. Apart from that, I'd like to keep as much of this conversation focused on integration between the systems as possible
Ideas for integration would be awesome though, if y'all have got any

I have an idea.
Integrate!

amazing what a good idea
10/10 would idea again

I was gonna say maybe hoste metasmoke on SE servers, maybe enable integration that allows it to cast automatic flags or feedback directly to spamram
or maybe make it so that confirmed SD reports only need 2-3 spam flags to get nuked rather then 6

@TIPS thank you for your insightful contribution.
Where's my medal?

I think the biggest strenght of this project is not the keyword filtering itself, but the fact that we can cast a broad net to catch most possible things and then filter out the not-bad stuff per hand

11:08 AM
@Magisch I think EC2 is holding up pretty well for metasmoke, actually. Might be useful to host Smokey itself on an SE server, though

Nuking Lots of Posts

11:11 AM
The biggest strenght here is the low turnaround time
From reporting to deletion due to our flags its often less then 5 minutes

We've got a graph of deletion times, actually

That means all that spam stays on the network minimally long only

@ArtOfCode You know what, I learned something. That you programmers should never make acronyms.

Low point of average deletion times is 5m 30s
High point is 10m

And then some stuff on SO lives <20s

That's 13 fewer spammers left alive on MSE... sent the list off to the team, who'll get round to destroying them later

Last time I asked you said something about needing websockets

11:32 AM
Websockets? Shouldn't need websockets. I needed an API route, which I've now done.

Restart: API quota is 2416.

@ArtOfCode So is it possible now?

Yep. And I do need something to do with my afternoon...

What will that actually do then? Automatically feed back sd k on posts I flag as spam or abusive that have an active smokey report?

Yep

11:37 AM
OK OMG. I just realized how close our situation with Smokey is to "Person of Interest".

@ArtOfCode Will that be fed back via chat or directly to metasmoke?

Direct to MS

Could you make smokey maybe confirm that he recieved a feedback via chat?

Deja vu
This FR was proposed in chat a while ago IIRC.

Many times, when there's a report here and no feedback, other people will actually feedback because they think there isn't any yet, generating duplicate work

11:38 AM
@Magisch that seems like it would create a lot of noise

@ArtOfCode Make him confirm only when the feedback is via your metasmoke api route?

Is that a browser plugin you are talking about?

@Magisch yeah, sounds noisy

My goal is to emulate the "<report>" "<sd k recieved from X via plugin>"

@Wrzlprmft Metasmoke?

11:40 AM
@ArtOfCode If there is no chat visible trace of the feedback other people in the room won't know there was any unless they check metasmoke

Okay, we'll give it a try. If it gets noisy, we may well have to remove it again

And then they'll spend time feedbacking too, generating duplicate work
Alright

@TIPS No, whatever feeds flags directly to Smokey.

@Wrzlprmft yeah, userscript I'm writing

Would it also report spam that hasn’t been reported yet?

BTW, we had spam from ELL earlier today that went uncaught by Smokey and I manually reported it

This tool on MS shows invalidated feedback. If you see the "invalidated by" column, you see some feedbacks have been invalidated by "system". I thought only users could invalidate feedback. What is "system"?

Northern Lights.

@AshishAhujaツ The system automatically invalidates feedback under certain conditions

which conditions?

Namely, if your feedback is being ignored, you feed back on a post, and then another un-ignored user feeds back with the opposite feedback type, yours gets invalidated.

@Undo can you check access control headers on /api/w/post/:id/feedback - I think I've got them right to allow requests from anywhere, with creds, but maybe not. If they're right, I think metasmoke server needs restarting.
In other words, @Magisch, I wrote the rest of the script right first time, but the access control headers on the API route I need are screwing everything up :)

@wythagoras no, metasmoke has a dedicated review queue.
We can also create feedback through the API now.

12:23 PM
What are the advantages of having an account there over just giving feedback here?
@SmokeDetector k

@wythagoras allows you to use userscripts that submit feedback through the API
like the one I'm writing
Allows you to catch older posts that didn't get feedback from chat
Originally it was implemented because we had about 7000 posts with no feedback at all on them

Are they keeping all the massive rep changes for documentation?

Word is they'll change the rep settings and then do a recalc

4:22 PM
@Yvette They announced they'll do a full recalc after they balance it

Boy that'll be fun

@Yvette "We're definitely going to fix this. Kevin and others will be discussing the particulars this week, though it may be a bit longer before anything gets rolled out (as the variety of suggested changes here demonstrates, there are a lot of factors that should be taken into consideration). Once changes are made, reputation will be recalculated for anyone affected and we'll post an announcement here on meta." source
Many people will lose over 3k rep from that, myself included
I'm not too fuzzed about that, but a whole lot of people will go ballistic

I've only gained about 100 rep from Docs

I nearly doubled my rep with Docs

I got from 4k to 6,4k

sd k

I earned only 79 rep, and that is 4 for two approved changes, and +60 from one and +10 from another, +5 from one citation. I spent approximately one hour on the +60, adding and rewriting four or five sections (which got approximately 2 upvotes each, and some of them got a little more)
I really wonder where everyone got that rep.

This is more like a Tavern subject...

@Magisch still the CORS errors

@ArtOfCode CORS?

I'm switching to POST requests instead of PUT in some vague hope that that'll help
@Magisch cross-origin resource sharing

On what exactly does it error?

TL;DR: You can't AJAX request a resource on a domain that isn't the current domain, unless the remote resource sets specific HTTP headers.
I wrote the SO Documentation on that one.

So you'd just have to set the HTTP header on metasmoke to allow that?

5:29 PM
@Magisch preflight request doesn't get the Allow-Origin header, and the resource returns 404
@Magisch Yeah. But that should already be done.

Well what else could cause it?

shrug

Other webserver side settings?

It's done in config, so in theory if the server hadn't been restarted after the headers were configured, then it would fail - but the server has been restarted.
I've checked the header syntax, and that's correct
The only thing I could think of was using PUT requests might not have made it very happy.
So I switched to POST, which - in theory - shouldn't require a preflight request, and should be a simpler setup

Restart: API quota is 8109.

5:33 PM
And did that work?

shrug Don't know yet - waiting on a metasmoke deploy for that to take effect.

@ByteCommander It tests for both title and body.
@ByteCommander Could you post the source of that spam post, maybe as a screenshot?

@redredwine The one I tested above. First line is title.
@redredwine But it says "URL in title" although the URL in the tested text is several lines down. How can I tell the test command what is title and what is body?

@ByteCommander It can't, so it runs the whole text through checks, pretending it's a title, and then again pretending it's a body.

It could treat the first line (same line as !!/test itself) as title if there are multiple lines though.
