@ArtOfCode Bye!
I found the charger too so

@hichris123 Indeed, a quick look at metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/reason/90 shows that posts in Russian are misplaced questions, while other ones are mostly spam.

Yeah, that's actually what I was looking at. Probably the same for the other non-latin types.

@SmokeDetector k

@SmokeDetector Grace period edited looks like.
And since they're unregistered, they can't delete their own post.
Hmm, or not. It would've had to be edited prior to the comment.

12:10 AM
@hichris123 Shadow edits don't work after a comment has been posted though.
The comment might just be one of those "trolling the troll" comments that everyone is tempted to leave sometimes.

Yeah, who knows...
Guess it was just trolling.

The guy confirmed. It's just trolling the spammer.

@QPaysTaxes Sure, but you're going to get a lot of nonsensical stuff from Smokey

12:46 AM
@Undo I was planning on having my bot ignore Smokey

You won't get much volume then, but that's okay
Yeah, it's fine by me. Not like the data isn't public anyway

Well ideally this won't be the only chat room it listens to

People in a few rooms have run Markov chains off transcripts
often turning into vulgar little bots ;-)

Morning

@QPaysTaxes Technically, each of the bots in this room already do that. Smokey is looking for certain commands and could but doesn't record all of the messages. Zephyr looks for certain patterns and if they match reposts them in another room.
I'd question that validity of markov chaining sentences and reposting though. Is that your end goal or are you going for something more?

@Andy It's an academic excercise, and also I plan to build it so I could do basically anything with the saved data.
I've always found the particular sort of nonsense that Markov chains produce to be funny, though, so that's as good a place as any to start.

And this just struck my mind after Q's question. Is it okay to run any bot over here anytime, or do you have to ask permission like in SOCVR?

@QPaysTaxes if you are interested in Markov chains, take a look at subreddit simulator too.
@AshishAhujaツ if the bot is annoying, there are a lot of blue names in here that are going to whack it, and you. Fair warning.

2:25 AM
@Andy I see. I think the best will be to ask permission from an RO then. Anyways, my bot is a huge way from the cross-site platform.

@Andy That's where I first heard of them :)
I've also done some stuff with Markov chains and text prediction before; I'm more focusing on building the bot side of things.

@QPaysTaxes which language are you planning to build your bot in?

I dunno. Probably Ruby, but I might also use C++, Java, or Python.

Which site is this chat room on? (I'm new here)

2:41 AM
this is non-site specific room, it's just connected to SE in general

Everyone is new here, except the old farts like Art, Undo, and… basically everyone with a blue name.

which means all of the site mods are mods on this room

Those guys are scary. Don't make them mad.

@QPaysTaxes there's new mods, like me and some of the more recent betas

Except Quill; he tries to be passively intimidating but just comes off as a bunny dressed in a devil costume.

2:42 AM
@Quill Well, all mods are mods everywhere in chat. :)

Your calling Art and Undo an old fart???!!!

@hichris123 Not on SO?

@hichris123 except MSE

Well, I meant everywhere on chat.SE...

Growl HQ

2:43 AM
@QPaysTaxes I was going to try for the title "Nicest mod on SE" but then I thought it wouldn't be nice to the others to claim I'm the nicest

@John Yeah, they're like 25. Compared to me that's older than the Earth itself! Because we all know that the world began when I got here.
@Quill Wow way to be passive-aggressive about it ;)
@hichris123 I was asking, not asserting :P

(removed)

You can edit messages btw
Hit the up arrow

@QPaysTaxes most of the listed mods are pretty close to our age... you're older than Undo and I (and hichris, I think)

@Quill Dokt you have to be 18 to be a mod?
Which would make all of you older than me by default?

2:45 AM
@QPaysTaxes Nope

Well shit
If I had known and wasn't so caustic and confrontational I'd have nominated myself at some point

@QPaysTaxes Doorknob was nominated for protem at like 13 <_<

When I was 13 I was too busy with my home life to be a mod
Mostly [description designed to engender sympathy] and [another of the same]
Speaking of home life, I gtg. Boyfriend wants to do something that's probably not appropriate to discuss here over text.

see you later

@QPaysTaxes I sure hope not

@Undo IIRC SO even has a thing saying "we don't discriminate age" on their hiring forms
the only age thing would be 13 to signup, but that's a legally enforced thing though

@Quill Yeah, that's standard legal stuff.
Age is a protected class; you're not supposed to be able to say "I'm not gonna hire you because you're 47 and we don't hire 47-year-olds" kinda like you can't say "I'm not gonna hire you because you're purple"
It doesn't mean "we'll hire a fourteen year old" because (1) there's reason to believe a 14-year-old won't be the best worker, and (2) there are weiiiird legal things that happen when you try to enter a contract with a minor.
One of them being that it never works out well for the non-minor

as far as employment goes down under, you just gotta get parental consent

2:57 AM
Where's here?

Australia, that novelty clone of a western country but with nicer beaches
I got a nice programming job at 14, which was cool

Oh, I've done some consulting work. That's fine in the US

Interestingly, we have nearly the same stack as SO.... I even pushed for SE.Redis :p

Where it gets hairy is with "sign this thing, then show up every day" because it's kinda hard to go after a minor for not showing up every day
@Quill Cool

Never mind, he got caught
And each I've done some work. It's really not that hard in the US.
Well, I've only done work with honest people, and I've never tried to take advantage of them.

3:08 AM
yeesh, with @Quill being blue I'm having an even harder time distinguishing this room and TL.

TL?

Teacher's Lounge. Network mod room

TL reminds me of when I worked IT support during high school; the teachers started speaking to me like an equal

My guess of "transported licorice" was wrong then

3:10 AM
Lemme go bookmark that for April 1

The IT people at my school alternately love me and hate me

I am IT at my school. Yay homeschooling.

It should be ML (mod lounge) not TL

There are maybe ten kids who really know their stuff when it comes to computers, and I'm arguably the eleventh.

@John History and all that

3:11 AM
@John but that's confusable with Machine Learning

In exchange for fixing computer problems when we see them, we get full admin and IT candy stash access
@John Basically every room on Chat.SE is a pun or joke based on the purpose.
Latin.SE's main room is the CONLOQVIVM, which is the Latin word for a place where people get together to talk.

@QPaysTaxes one of the first steps in new betas is for "coming up with a chatroom name"

PPCG's main room is The Nineteenth Byte which I just don't get.

supposed to be like The Nineteenth Hole, which apparently is a golf reference

@Quill I know. I helped build Latin.SE sorta kinda not really.

3:13 AM
oh that's awesome

@Quill Oh, hah. I get it.

October'15 post: "Right CLick on C drive and click on properties. 2: Under the General tab click on "Disk Cleanup". "
