hola folks...

o/

\o

Figured I'd stop by, we had a lot of spam recently on Workplace that SmokeDetector didn't pick up (which intrigued me)

Hm.

stuff like:

10:31 PM
One second lemme check metasmoke
@enderland That should get caught. Maybe we disabled some of the filters for Workplace SE

@enderland grr the chat makes spam link clickable.

!!/alive?

@Undo it died again

Shit smokey's dead
rip

10:32 PM
well. that might answer it :)

Undo's experiments with RPi may be to blame...

Guess he wasn't satisfied with closet server
Now he's gotta put his servers inside of pies

@quartata it was making him hot :p

plot twist: closet server caused closest fire

:O

10:34 PM
so if I understand SmokeDetector right, it's basically an assembly of regex and keywords right?

yup

Yes, and chat interface.

@enderland Yes.

yeah, plus chat interface. Mainly curious on the brains of it :)

if you want, submit a PR to add that URL.

10:34 PM
It's rule-based, not anything statistical.

Not needed, I'll work it into a pattern so it's a bit more general than that one site.

@Seth yeah, we had a few of them that were similar urls (need a hueristic "legit? or not?" url lol)

they were working on Bayesian testing at one point, but I'm not sure anything came of it.
@Minestrone coolio.

Honestly the spam SE gets is so damn obvious we don't even need Bayesian classifiers

@quartata true

10:35 PM
no kidding

Keywords are more than sufficient

@Minestrone I'll compile some of the links we've got, similar types of links

@Undo [tag:panic-driven-development] gogogo

@Seth great. Someone went in that closet and bumped it off the thing >:(

@enderland Thanks, new URLs are always appreciated.

10:36 PM
? why didn't the tag work

@Undo ಠ_ಠ
@quartata Charcoal isn't associated with a site, so it has no tags.

@Undo hahaha

That

@Seth Oh.

wait, why are we tagged lizards and plastic knives? o_O

10:37 PM
Indeed, no tags...

Q: Bill the Lizard's Closing Antics

James DonnellyBill the Lizard is the number 1 reviewer when it comes to Close Votes. Now I can only respect the amount of time he's put in to sealing that podium position, however he's doing this in such a way that prevents any other non-moderator from catching up: he's completing more than 40 reviews per day....

I presume.

So, plastic knives are off topic (that is, unless @hichris wants to make a meat cutting machine with plastic knives). @hichris: what's the assignment, again?

@enderland LOL @ the one with scam in the URL

@Seth history :P

@quartata nope. it was me >.<
I was afraid of that.

room topic changed to Charcoal HQ: Where comments are flagged and SE is hacked. Handy links: http://erwaysoftware.com/blaze, https://github.com/Charcoal-SE [lizards] [plastic-knives]

@enderland Most of these should get automagically detected. "male enhancement" and "skin" for sure.

I've played "spoons" with plastic knives before.
It was.. interesting.

Restart: API quota is 9998.

At any rate the link at the end of the page is an immediate alert

@Seth oh gosh, that sounds painful.

@Undo I don't think I came away with any permanent scars.

@quartata ah, maybe smokey was just off for a while?

!!/alive?
wtf @Undo
@enderland We might have disabled a filter for Workplace SE

@quartata yeah that nails nearly all of these ones, lol

dunno

10:41 PM
damnit, I think someone bumped that hard drive and probably made it fall and probably broke it

Wow.

:o

You should put a lock on that closet.

I just might
The previous server had little rubber feet and a low CG.

fsck time.

@Seth fsck takes days
(sometimes weeks)
And it doesn't help a lot of the times

that depends on a lot of variables.

@Undo Probably should just use dd to get a disk image first
Then see what you can do with it

10:43 PM
It's not like there's anything important on it.

I don't have a reason not to just run it into the ground.

Restart: API quota is 9997.

!!/alive?

@enderland Of course

10:43 PM
at least it isn't NTFS. right? right?!

of course? it's been in question here! ;)

@Undo literally, in this case ;p

!!/test healthcaresupslot.com/b

photorec can get a lot of things off of broken disks but it won't preserve the file names

@quartata I don't see a correlation of filters/sites anywhere?

@Seth I dunno, how do I tell?

@SmokeDetector del

@Undo o_O

@enderland I don't know if Metasmoke has that.

well

10:44 PM
oh, if that's the nasty Windows partition scheme, no.

!!/test myfitnessherbs.com
@SmokeDetector del

It's probably OS X Extended or something like that
Or maybe I formatted it from the Pi, in which case it's something else

@Undo that's MBR. But NTFS is the Windows file system, so yeah.

!!/test /superpowervxfunciona.com/f

oh, it's GPT. Or so says fdisk

10:45 PM
@SmokeDetector del OK, all those already matched.

@Undo either way, ext4 and HFS+ are both better than NTFS
@Minestrone so maybe just because smokey was down?
or api limitations

Yes, that must be why.

"add some stuff" that's a helpful commit message guys :P

@enderland Roughly half of Smokey's commit messages contain the word "flake" followed by a series of threats and thinly veiled profanity. Or at least half of mine do.

10:48 PM
@enderland insert obligatory xkcd here
Undo is such a profane person.
:p

It's veiled, though, so it doesn't count :P
A thin veil is still a veil.

you even spelled dammit wrong :P

well, I've got work to do

Force Touch seems to think so.

10:51 PM
That sounds like the absolute worst Jedi ability ever.

@Doorknob lol

@SmokeDetector naa

@Doorknob Which begs the question, can droids force touch? :P

@Minestrone does replying that auto flag it? or what

10:55 PM
@enderland IIRC it does absolutely nothing as far as Smokey is concerned

No, naa is not interpreted in any way. This is just FYI for others in the room.

But it does let other people in the chat know to go flag it

oh. hah

@Undo is blaze reporting still a thing?

Or not to flag, up to them. (Since multiple NAA flags are rarely needed). Main point is, they don't have to check it for spam/abuse.

10:57 PM
@Seth No, for good reason
I was kinda passing things to a Python script from PHP over Bash. It was injection heaven, but somehow no one figured out why it didn't work when things contained apostrophes and things.
or at least I assume no one did. My AWS bill didn't spike so it was okay

ah

11:18 PM
Questions with a negative score aren't bumped by Community, is this right?
This is my impression (and I vaguely recall reading somewhere about it) but the question score is not listed among the factors here

I see. It's stated in this answer but not in Shog's answer that it cites. Thanks.

I don't see where that was confirmed though...

11:42 PM
Shog just edited this in, by a coincidence of course.

of course

Maybe Shog was that room stalker we had a while back...
