I guess it's just the EL&U chat being particularly active. Which isn't always for their own good, witnessed by the recent brouhaha between RegDwigнt and some other mods. (RegDwigнt quit the chat, apparently.)
@Andy I think one can limit to SO and get about the same thing. For SO, such feeds are already available, thanks to the 10M page -- except it doesn't have reviews.

The answer to your question is the same answer to the question: "why to viruses seek the acquisition of attack vectors to replicate themselves?" Because that's the key to keeping the cycle working. The more you deny them, the harder they work to lure you in with a payout.
So if your objective is to play the part of the white blood cell and collect virus definitions. All you need to say is: "Application A with properties X,Y,Z is a virus looking for an attack vector", and others can make a note to avoid it, thus completing the cycle of the host denying entry to viruses.
