I hope you don't mind if I randomly join rooms without actually talking, I don't really know the rules/guidelines/what to talk about of the chat yet so for the time being I prefer to make myself too noticeable
@André There are no rules really except in some rules they are posted on the sidebar (with a link in the description under the name [Here is Charcoal HQ or in the "starred section" where messages people star go to). We don't have any here, but other "rooms" do. Just don't do anything inappropriate, and try not to spam or bring up controversial topics (religion, politics, etc.).
It's pretty ruleless, with a few exceptions where some people will get annoyed at first but they'll tell you what's wrong if there's any problem and you should just apologize. That's all there is to it, except getting used to the tools.
You can edit... click on the dropdown arrow on the left when you mouse over your message and there should be an edit button.
If you want to play around with the tools this room was created for it (DISCLAIMER: people post a lot of stuff in there, so be careful :D):

@hichris123 No, but you should use that or WPF (newer based off of XAML [similar to XML] and more flexible, to me it's a little harder to build for) if you don't want a console UI :D
WPF: More like HTML in a way where you need to "create" your own templates. Faster, newer, more efficient, but longer dev. time and learning. | Winforms: trusty, supported but no new changes, set of prebuilt components and windows: more than you'll ever need, fairly simple.
WPF easier to create a responsive layout because it's part of the "core aspects" of it where Winforms you have to add some code and use some options.
(However you can lock Winforms at a certain size and forget about that issue...)
IDK. It seem easy to do Winforms and just switch one property to disable resize and drag three components on, double click on each one for a event handler autogenerated, and then just code. WPF take a little more.

@Andre Us mods more like threatening than doing... if we had to do something that means someone wants to make our site worse and makes us sad. Threatening is for fun :P

@Andre Not very much. I'd say 1/300 users created on the main site are bad (i.e. only spam, especially inappropriate/unprofessional/offensive content), another one of those 100 just need a little guidance because they aren't used to the rules we have in place.
Well we have big measures in place: quick flagging, we can ban users who spam frequently, we have ways to prevent them from creating new accounts, etc.
Also, people care here.
It's really amazing what community moderation can do. It can be flawed at times, but it works well and our sites stay clean.
@André I'd say don't do it. The last Arduino proposal (I'm pro team ♦ [basically temp. mod] there) and the first one failed because we only got like 1 question a day because people did "faith commitments"
@AnnonomusPerson in my opinion private betas are useless... they can make them read-only to avoid spam by new/inexperienced users but I don't see why they need to completely restrict access
@André Meh... it's just to not get much attention and focus on creating a few main users and some "example" content without other users interfering unless they really want to.
Read only would be the same thing as public except you can't post as a "guest"
@André Yeah... it could be doing better. It's still beta and we're only half through the minimum lifetime. Most betas take over a year to graduate to a full site.
@André It's mainly just to build a community. They don't want the whole internet going wild on a community that hasn't decided what is on/off topic yet, has no clue on what to ask, etc.

@HamZa well yeah, if you're a programmer having lots of experience you get paid well, the problem is that i'm more of a student just playing with code rather than an actual programmer
I'm quite sure that I can work in a company with my knowledge, it was also confirmed by a lot of people I know. The problem: I can't because of time. So I'm working in a DIY* shop the weekend and some evenings ... DIY: magasin de bricolage
@HamZa I'm pretty sure I can too, the problem is that (at least here in france) you need a "diplôme" (something that proves your knowledge, I think that's called a "degree" in english) to work, no one really cares about people who claim they can code without one of these "diplôme" (and I understand that perfectly - I've met a lot of people who claim they can program while actually the only thing they can do is a basic PHP website using outdated mysql_query() functions :p)
@HamZa here in France there's a thing called "formation en alternance" which is like you spend 2 weeks working at a company, then two weeks studying, the problem is that you still need to find a company that would accept you and it's hard
@HamZa work is actually a big problem in France, not just for computer-related work but for everything, the number of unemployed people is very high and it's very hard to get a job, even a crappy one
I recently launched my first android app - Rain Guard in the market. It's been almost 2 days and I haven't received even one download. I don't even think users are able to find the app in the search results unless they specifically type in "Rain Guard".
It is basically an app that shows 36 hour...
There is a read-only mode (used e.g. during the Sandy failover). It just wouldn't have helped in this case.
