I plan on setting up a projector outside to project on a giant concrete wall. The problem is that there are no outlets within any feasible distance. I've searched for portable/rechargeable AC power supplies, but they're apparently really expensive ($500+) and are unreliable.
Are there any solu...
I live in an old 50 + year old house and it still has the original circuit breakers. I am trying to search for one that died, but don't know the model or even if they make these anymore. If any electricians out there can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.
I haven't removed it (Kinda' sc...
Extreme sense of caution. I don't want ANYTHING live inside that box, because there's a 90% chance it will be coming out of the wall. Make that 98% chance.
@TheEvilGreebo Actually, I always say it's a 2 person job because you should have someone a) pouring the cement while you hold the mixer, and b) running buckets if you're doing multiple-bag pours, which we are.
Yeah, I don't expect to get any blogging done before Xmas because I'm working two projects ... extreme tiling and we're also re-siding the exterior since it's cool enough during the day to work outside.
thanks, i'm back in the tool. Not working on it today but I'll put it on my calendar
I forget - what happens in chat when I hit 20k ?
A steam powered generator could generate the power you need, and supply heat to keep you warm on those chilly nights. Only one downside... You'd have to build a steam powered generator. — Tester1011 hour ago
We have an A-frame house in Alaska.
The ceiling is 2x8 rafters 16" on center with drywall on inside and 5/8" plywood on outside.
We installed R-44 insulation in space, no vapor barrier, no air space. We don't want to remove the plywood since the roof is so steep (slope is 19:12).
Can we ins...
I had a lot of trouble logging in a few minutes ago. will try to get back at 3 for the forum. gotta go move the chop saw and install some extension jams.. warmer inside. later guys
it'll hold a hammer to the ceiling in no time flat! (remember the commercial?)
this conference call should take about 3 minutes flat - have to tell a 3rd party IT dept their SSL VPN collection doesn't support Windows 7 / IE 9 and f**k off - i'm not rolling back to XP / IE 7 - so fix your shit.
I had to travel for the last week, left Thurs and just got in last night, so I'm just back here and working on it today.... no real new pictures except of the hole i filled with new concrete.
We found a little problem with some of our bajillion dollars worth of HP hardware and they sort of wanted someone in person rather than having everyone on a conference call.
And since I'm so close...
I had to wear a tie, which sucked. I wanted to wear one of my thinkgeek t-shirts, because HP can go !@#$ themselves in the !@$%
Yeah, I know, but our VP of IT has an inherent hate of Dell servers and refuses to buy them. We got tired of being screwed by IBM so we threw out all their stuff and bought HP. Now we're getting screwed by HP.
That's BS. I would've torn the patch off, and handed it to him the next day with my two week. I find it's easier to get a new job than to put up with BS like that.
we have a sister company thats makes something we use. for a while, they were coming to our office often (multiple times a day) so PURELY out of curiosity, i friended them on twitter JUST to see what they were up to - i got yelled at the next day, because my twitter profile said "i do fucking everything" and they were worried that clients could see that on their twitter account
which anyone that knows how twitter works and know what "private profile" means, knows thats not the case
OK, only progress for me to report is that I finally got the hole in my slab filled...
And I still haven't gotten that !@#$ing truck I bought titled because our DMV is a bunch of idiots, although I did manage to extract a temp tag from them and have made a few dump runs which have made me very happy.
Oh, here, that's what people use their garages for. They put things that are worth absolutely nothing in the garage, and park the vehicle worth tens of thousands of dollars in the driveway.
@ChrisCudmore Oh, sorry, misunderstood. People down here have been known to panic and do that when it freezes down here, especially if they own a diesel.
Admittedly, most of our power plants that use a water/steam cycle as opposed to direct-drive gas turbines did blow up down here when it got below 10 degrees last year.
after we fix my shitty plaster job on the joints and wire the lights, i'll make brick oven pizza and we'll have beer (or you have beer and i'll have wine - get drunker that way)
I'm just finishing up the interior remodel on the Forbes lane house, last fiberglass floor goes down Sat morn... got the little 12X12 deck decked over yesterday. Railings in a couple of days
I have to say that as a homeowner and a DIYer I hate seeing that thing, especially if I talk to the people who did the flipping (FSBO or similar) and they're expecting way over market value and I have to tell them that I wouldn't even pay appraisal value because it's gonna gut ...
@Tester101 It's possible to use the larger yellow flexline for that application and it'll pass down here ... I have about 15' of it my wall. They're doing entire houses with larger diameter flex line. Now, if you mean they daisy-chained supply lines...
@shirlockhomes No ... www.dropbox.com ... download and install the software, drag the pictures into the 'public' folder that you want to be public, and after it's done uploading then right click on them and get the 'copy link' and just paste it in here and we'll all be able to see it.
Gotta tell you guys, I went with a Viesman on wall boiler with a separate zone hot water on demand...... Incredible 97% eff and costs a fraction of what oil used to cost in this house
largest bill last winter for heat, hot water, cooking and the fireplace logset was $130
We need to get a new boiler - we have a "combi" boiler (instant hot water) but it's thermostat has gone so the water alternates between almost scalding hot and cold. Luckily we've got a thermostatic mixer shower that evens out most of the variation.
@Tester101 Interesting ... They ran it from about ten feet from the fixture horizontally (so that they didn't have to retap the black line) and another ten feet vertically. And it passed inspection. Possibly because it was in the attic and ventilated rather than in the basement or under the house?
@shirlockhomes Yeah, and then there's Indianapolis recently... that looks to have been a malfunctioning heater.
Per this meta.so post, if we want to migrate old questions to gardening now, we need to build a list and coordinate with the Gardening site to get some agreement on a mass-migration. If you're wondering why, we can't migrate questions older than 60 days anymore.

Stack Exchange is looking to have some fun for the holidays by giving people hats for various tasks around the site. These, unfortunately, aren't real hats, more like holiday badges that you can see on your gravatar. They hosted a holiday hat bash on the Gaming site last year, and have asked if o...
It works very much the same - you generally will need to cut it yourself for the HD stuff though, and you won't get a planner helping you out saying 'you really don't want 16" wide shelves here because this closet is too shallow for them'
Peacefully grant the people of the United States of America to have Grover Norquist be brought forth in chains and put in a public pillory. Once Grover Norquist has been secured, anyone who wishes will be allowed to punch him once, and only once, square in the dick.
Okay you guys I have next question. And like all good questions this one begins with a story.
I was reading the post about a nick in a wire and read a couple of you mention that light switch in a closet is not to code. What's up with that? Why not? When I open a closet and it seems dark, I...
@NiallC.keep in mind that you may want to put things above your head, so a very deep shelf will inhibit you from putting large things on the top shelves because you can't manuver them around that deep shelf
Remember that beautiful heat map of my living room floor that I did two weeks ago? I just realized that I had the directions of where things are high and low reversed ... and started spot-treating the area as if the high points were low points and vice versa.
I think this is what they call ** irretrievably retarded**
