@RafaelSantos A lot of the Powered by the Apocalypse games have that kind of thing built into character creation to one extent or another

2 hours later…
2:34 AM
@SirCinnamon "Busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest" is one of my go-tos.

hey there @nitsua60

hiya

8 hours later…
10:35 AM
I need 60 methods of resurrection. Does anyone have any beside (respawning at home point, turning into a ghost and getting to a specific place, taking over someone else's mind, being resummonable in other worlds, being bound to an object and regenerating around it, going to another realm until the full moon)?

2 hours later…
12:10 PM
what do you need 60 methods of resurrection for?

60 seems like a lot to need

It's oddly specific though. Why not 50? Or 100?

true

or 6
quality > quantity

12:28 PM
The number of characters
Does anyone have ANY that I haven't mentioned?

12:44 PM
most of the time 1-3 methods of resurrection used for every character is enough
i don't have anything to suggest because i'm still stuck on why you'd want to do this to yourself, and i'm not sure i want to enable it, but i'd have to know more to be able to assist anyway, but i'm not sure i want to.
number of characters in what, why and how do they each need a unique resurrection method, what's going on, what's the story context, etc?
it sounds like you're dealing with a multiversal fantasy rpg thing
if there's 60 different characters who each have a special unique resurrection method, who are they, and what's going on such that they each need a special unique resurrection method? (as mentioned, most fictions settle for only needing the one resurrection method, sometimes two; sometimes there's a handful of fantasy races and some of those races have a unique method of coming back, but not sixty)

@Piomicron get stuffed in a clay urn of dragon's blood; entombed for three days (my CCD teacher(s) would not like that I thought of that second); funeral pyre leaves behind a "new" version of oneself; carved likeness of oneself takes life after (or before!) one's death; cryo[ge]nics
@doppelgreener Sounds to me like there's already a stable of 60 people to ask for unique resurrection methods =)

@nitsua60 yeah if there's 60 actual real life human beings behind these characters i'd just ask them to each come up with the one they want for their own character

^^

that way everyone's happier

There's not, it's actually for a fiction book. However, I thought I'd find the best mindsets here

12:54 PM
you may want to try Worldbuilding or Writing chats
but we're also The People Who Deal With Random Tables With Literally A Hundred Entries and they're usually mostly garbage because someone decided they had to fill a table with a hundred entries and only had about five actually compelling ideas
which is the basis on which i am thinking, why would you do this to yourself
as a reader i've never been upset that there might only be 1 method of resurrection in a setting (or, plot twist, actually 0)

@doppelgreener Several plot points I've though up revolve around the fact that people come back to life in different (and unique) ways. It's not about the reader being upset, it's about the end product.

Ok, hm.
- Turn to stone. Reform from the stone later.
- Lich's phylactery. (Which is that bound to an object thing you mentioned I guess.)
- Respawn as a fish in a pond in their homeland.
- Simply regenerate on the spot. (Which, hopefully, is not A Pit Of Lava; that person is out of luck.)
- Last plant they interacted with gets inhabited and shaped into their new body.
- Wake up naked in the dirt during the next rainstorm, wherever that is.
We've joked in here about Kord, the god of strength and sports, how he would probably be a super cool & encouraging jock kinda guy, and when a follower of Kord died, they'd sit down with him on a couch (he'd give them a beer hat and everything) and they'd watch the highlights reel of their life. So there's that, and then the person gets sent back if needed.
(alternately you only go back once you beat him in an arm wrestling competition)
There's notions of reincarnation; some people may not come back exactly the same.
Someone wakes up in the Halls of their Afterlife and isn't actually allowed back unless someone comes to get them, but this person's figured out the shortcut pathway and its tricks pretty well.
Dark Souls has that thing where you respawn at the last bonfire you visited.
Scott Pilgrim had the notion of using your 1-up to just go back to earlier that day, starting the level over again.
One of the D&D editions has dead vampires disperse into gas or a cloud of bats (can't remember which) to reform later.
Someone who Did Science To This probably has a tank they regrow in.
If there's science fiction in this setting, you'd have people who restart from backup bodies with a copy of their consciousness. (Or their actual consciousness, like in Battlestar Galactica. Jury's out on how to judge whether it's really the same You that woke up.)

We're about to take all Stack Overflow and Stack Exchange sites into read-only mode for our SQL 2017 upgrade. We'll also go full maintenance for a few minutes and then back online.
Chat will be offline for a bit. TTFN!

Using the {social} tag. I think this is the first time I've suggested it. Is this question the right kind of question for that tag?

@KorvinStarmast yep, looks fine

hey there @KorvinStarmast

thx, I guess we area bout to go off line, so I'll visit with you all later. @Shalvenay hello, I am heading to another site, I think we are about to drop of line.

2:14 PM
@doppelgreener Some of those ideas will be very useful. Some of them, I'd already thought up.

@Piomicron Glad I could be of some assistance with it.

Hello people. Can I gest some help from someone with a better computational power? I want to print to PNG a Mipui map but it crashes me the page.

4:16 PM
@doppelgreener I've got about 30 now

2 hours later…
6:21 PM
@Zachiel I could try if you give me the link

6:42 PM
hey there @ACuriousMind

@Shalvenay ahoi

@ACuriousMind how're things going?

@Shalvenay Still well, still busy :)
How 'bout you?

alright here, won't be able to play today I don't think but might have time tomorrow or perhaps next weekend if either of those work for you and Pixie

1 hour later…
7:46 PM
@doppelgreener Bullying someone by calling them "no-life" has taken on a whole new level.

8:00 PM
@kviiri yeah: "It's this sort of Kafkaesque reasoning that gives the legal profession a bad name"

regarding permanently animating things....
can you polymorph something into a construct?

@goodguy5 I think so? but not sure...

only true polymorph

ah, yeah, that'd make sense

Okay. Finger of Death
True Polymorph into a Flying Sword (or some other cr 1/4 construct)

8:39 PM
That moment when an answer makes you feel so dumb.

9:23 PM
@SevenSidedDie It seemed clear to me when I wrote it, that comment in meta, so I hope that the further explanation has removed any ambiguity. If you want to see the comment under the answer of the (main sight) question that got it all started, I think you'll need to use a mod power, since I removed it.
@SevenSidedDie And as a follow up to your inquiry a week or three ago, I think that the "received rudeness" that Chad reported with some flags fits roughly into that notion I have called "latent hostility" -- even though I do not believe that anyone in that question and comment trail had any intention to be rude.

9:56 PM
@Piomicron Plants and flowers planted in and around the burial site reach into the earth and slowly feed life force to the dead person. As person gets more alive, the roots begin to slowly remove soil/raise up person. If you already had that idea, sorry.

1 hour later…
11:01 PM
@Shalvenay I don't have time tomorrow and next weekend is also already kinda full :/
