hey there @KorvinStarmast

Hi shal

how're things going?

been working on the yard.

ah

now relaxing with a brew.
And I have to fix my char sheet to add the +2 to bow attack, I decided to go with archery. .
Fighting style

12:18 AM
ah, nice

It makes me more lethal at range but less lethal in melee.
It's one of those balance of priorities things, and my low wisdom is not helpful
When I get enough money, I'll need to get a rapier for melee. But let's not get ahead of ourselves

12:51 AM
@doppelgreener Don't need to go that far: in OVO Texas and Ohio (and Ohio, revisited) you can find the same problem.

4:38 AM
@doppelgreener oh wow, I missed this when you first said it, how freaking weird
that is such bureaucratic $#&$#%^%#

4:52 AM
@trogdor yeah. worse than the one IG even

way worse

@trogdor -- sorry if I seemed a bit out of it re: the Flaming Fist folks at the end

I didn't think you were

tried to get into the swing of a RP with ya, but the interruption derailed it and that kinda threw me off track
Rrau is pretty incensed, really. basically, you can't travel from Fort Belurian save for hugging the coast perfectly without one of these permits, it seems
if that, even
unless you take the boat

yeah there is so much wrong with it

Our list of forums we point people to are curated by you. If we're missing any good quality RPG discussion forums, please post them! If there's specific games or topics not covered by anything there, that would also be especially helpful.

@Shalvenay Hiya

anyone have a favorite srd for 5e newbies?

@goodguy5 I use 5e.d20srd.org

hrm... that only has the free races and classes though

@goodguy5 yeah, that's what you'll get with the SRD

hrm....

howdy all

6:06 PM
ahoy!

hows everybody's weekend going?

mine's going well, getting R&R and playing games with friends :)

@doppelgreener Glad to hear it :) same here btw. Got some much needed sleep, gaming, and a bit of boozing as well. Now if I can get cleaning done this will be a very successful weekend indeed.

6:26 PM
son of a gun. Didn't think about my gold badge. rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/118679/…
this is darned close to being a dupe IMO
I think it crosses the line.

Is it functionally the same question such that answers in the dupe target provide an obvious clear answer to this one?

I keep going back and forth now, but I guess the one I closed is slightly wider in scope because it deals with the question of "can they use" and "how can they use" as opposed to just proficiency.

Duplication is for "you can find your answer here", which usually means if question A is wider in scope than question B, question A is not a duplicate of question B.
Take some time to think about it, and if you figure the close isn't appropriate, you also have a reopen hammer thanks to your gold badge.
(both are use-once, hence my suggestion to think about it a bit :D)
If you're borderline then you can also leave it be to see what others decide

thanks :) I'll mull it over. And be a bit slower on the draw next time if the case calls for it.

That pause to think about it will become a thing, yeah :D
This is what close voting is like every single time for any reason for diamond moderators :P

6:39 PM
the pressure is real, man.

7:05 PM
enough pressure to create diamonds

7:23 PM
@doppelgreener or pearls. ;)

hey there @Anaphory

Hey!
I have been noticed lurking, now I shall chat.

how're things going?

Busy, busy. But currently some simulations are running, so I have to wait.
Which means I have time to chat!

trying to figure out some lore stuff for FR re: elven paladins, and what happens when you start mixing paladin and cleric levels...

7:37 PM
I had a D&D session yesterday and it started a discussion about worldbuilding with my GM. How do D&D pantheons work in Forgotten Realms by default?

@Anaphory I'm not sure of the "by default" even, but what facet are you concerned about?

From my old contact with that stuff, the pantheons feel very much like parallel monotheism, and even though all the gods exist no-one considers praying to anyone but their specific god.

the way I've seen it interpreted is that it's only clergy those who draw upon divine powers who are asked to really stick with a deity

That makes much more sense.

at least, in environs where this sort of thing was more than a footnote

7:39 PM
That's the other strange thing. There's so many gods, and it does not shape culture??

a few cultural type things you'd note is that you wouldn't see temples to everyone in every city, so most deities in FR wouldn't be bothered by you praying to them over an altar dedicated to somebody else

I meant more, I expect gods and praying to them to be more than a footnote, and be very immanent in culture one way or another, not just having a shrine somewhere or possibly not even that.

@Anaphory yeah. I meant more mechanically than culturally re: environs
so yeah -- prayers would be common, as well as other invocations of deities, I reckon (the equivalent of a "God bless and farewell" in this world)

Ah. Yes, the mechanics are reasonably clear.

you get where I'm going re: "Farewell and God bless" sorts of things?

7:53 PM
Yes! I need to do more of that kind of thing in our game.

9:43 PM
I wish there was a way to give kudos to people who earned badges/do cool stuff and who are not active on chat. There is always comments but it seems weird to do that at times.
eg I just notice @PurpleMonkey earned their gold [dnd-5e] badge a few days ago.

10:17 PM
@Rubiksmoose noooo there was a diamond pressure joke in there XD
i'm not sure what you mean by pearls though!

10:33 PM
@doppelgreener I was making a very oblique reference to "optimising for pearls not sand" lol
@doppelgreener but I can't believe that I missed the much better (and much clearer/funnier) joke lol
