@meta-se-peeps, here's an old question which could be answered with a note towards our tag: meta.stackexchange.com/q/272691
12:23 AM
that's a first, I got an NAA declined because I apparently should've used VLQ
I did not see an answer in the answer, thus NAA
Also, mods really don't have to deal with these flags; they can go through the VLQ queue
reflagging...

I want to ask a question about "Alms-Giving" (sacred-texts.com/neu/ascp/a03_27.htm) - what would the author tag be?
It's from a collection of Old English poems, do I need to tag with [exter-book] or the like?
(I can't concentrate on the projects so I went looking for Topic Challenge questions to ask)

Q: what does the dialouge "And no-one wants to be the school swot. Swat, get it?" mean?

Viser HashemiThis passage is from The Children's Bach by Helen Garner Poppy went into her bedroom and put on the uniform. She did this at least once a day, to practise getting used to it, and because she could not quite believe, from one day to the next, in its extreme ugliness. Worst were the shoes, great b...

Q: Dr Cheryl Pruitt

williamriverI am Dr Cheryl Pruitt and i have a degree in Literature and want to know what is the purpose of this website. Meaning of “curving afternoons” and “the idea of destination meant almost as little to him as…”

8:28 AM
@bobble I have posted an answer.
@bobble We don't have an author tag, so that question wouldn't get any kind of author tag, just .
Is there a word for the feeling that a question has too few tags? ;-)
@Tsundoku Maybe in German.
8:57 AM
If we had an tag, we might find they were the most prolific author in the history of literature.
@Randal'Thor Taghinzufügungssucht.
I'm hoping for better suggestions from @NapoleonWilson.

Q: Where would I ask a question about what significance some words have in a song?

NoviceSEMetaGeekWhere would I ask a question about what significance certain words have in a old Spiritual song?

^ On this site, for example.
I see you've answered some more
Yes :-) And I am now following that tag.

@Bookworm Someone swatted this question onto the HNQ list.

> very low quality – bobble 17 hours ago declined - It is not obvious that this answer is not salvagable. Deletion therefore seems too severe.
not an answer – bobble 2 days ago declined - Please flag as "very low quality".
okay look, this is just silly
I did exactly what the decline message told me and apparently it was the wrong thing to do
I thought NAA was more applicable in the first place, because I couldn't see an answer. A mod saw an answer in there. Fine. You tell me to flag as VLQ. Fine. I do that. And I get another declined flag???
Also, please do inform me what answer is in the answer. All I see are disconnected musings and a reference to a different poem: literature.stackexchange.com/a/18804/11259

Q: How do I analyze the stress/unstress in this Stephen King based novel?

SwimBikeRun Many of the jinni lines follow a stressed/unstressed sound pattern The author talks about this in the ending. What does this mean exactly? Here are some sequential lines from the jinni I would like to understand the above comment for. Now, young Roland, thou shalt tell me more of thy mother's ...

@bobble I didn't handle either of your flags on that answer, and I'm quite unsure what to make of it. Maybe it's attempting to address the "That the pattern may subsist, that the wheel may turn and still" line of the quote in the OP? It seems like more of a philosophical take on the concepts involved than an answer grounded in the text, though.
Also, this review looks weird, because I deleted the post from outside the queue and then wasn't able to take any "action" from the queue, so I had to click NAN to get out of it.
Hopefully Tsundoku and Gallifreyan won't review-ban me for NANing a NAA :-)
@Randal'Thor It would need to be a lot more clear about that. What even is the other poem doing to help the point?
I'm just rather... frustrated. I was trying to help clean-up in good faith and I got slapped for doing the exact thing the previous slapper said I should.

Q: What is a "roomy heart"?

bobbleThere's a phrase in "Alms-Giving" that I'm confused about. First, here's the original, untranslated text: Wel bið þam eorle      þe him on innan hafað, reþehygdig wer,      rume heortan; þæt him biþ for worulde      weorðmynda mæst, ond for ussum dryhtne      doma selast. Q: Understanding The Never ending Sorry

Ryan TruesdellI believe Ende created this tale,TNES,on the basis of the Zodiac. I have Graógaman, Large Letter of the Sun. The “L” in the zodiac. Leo,The lion heart, the fire sign. Bastian Balthasar Bux, The sun through the mazeroth. Can you think of any other character that coincide with this theory?

I think there’s an old debate between various moderators and users on the network about the parameters of the Not An Answer flag. See for example the below post from Science Fiction & Fantasy, and the Main Meta posts linked therein. I don’t know if there has been much discussion about it on Literature specifically, but it’s possible that different moderators here have differing views on the matter.

Q: Am I misusing the "Not An Answer" flag?

AlexI have had about a dozen Not An Answer flags on this site disputed or declined. In most if not all of those cases I thought that it was pretty straightforward why the post was not an answer, and in some cases I left a comment explaining why. I would therefore like to understand where I am going w...

A: When is an answer not an answer?

Aurora0001Wrong answers are answers, even if you don't like them Here's what the not an answer flag definition is: This was posted as an answer, but it does not attempt to answer the question. It should possibly be an edit, a comment, another question, or deleted altogether. Generally, the not an an...

But again: I don't see this particular answer as wrong. I see it as entirely off-topic, addressing an unasked question and bringing in another poet for an unknowable reason. I'm also particularly miffed that my NAA was declined with "use VLQ" and my VLQ was decline as "not VLQ"
It's not even clear what it's trying to answer - the question which is it is addressing is unclear. It reads to me as a rant, or a philosophical interlude, not an answer
But fine. If it isn't NAA, and you tell me to use VLQ, don't decline my VLQ
sorry, I'm really heated about this. I should stop talking
