@MrHen Why do you need some special mechanism built for the system to take a m and make an answer out of it? Nothing is stopping you from doing that. Except for maybe good judgment. Not all comments with answers are worth making a full-fledged answer (and often that is by intention of the comment author). Realistically, the SE developers will put your request way way down on the to-do list (especially since your meta discussion doesn't have much support) and ...
...you'll probably annoy people who've intentionally written information in comments that you've made a real answer out of.
It's not that I need a special mechanism. I am asking how to do it.
As in, will EL&U throw a fit if I copy/paste comments into answers.
The vibe seems to be that they won't but a lot of people around here are a bit defensive of their content.
Also, I didn't bother adding lots of support to the meta discussion because I was trying to avoid lengthening the argument. There are quite a few reasons to not post answers in comments.
If those answers are actually bad, or the question doesn't deserve an answer then maybe. Some individuals might be annoyed by having their comments copied. Pretty reasonable responses.
@MrHen What do you mean 'how to do it?'? How to do it -right-? How to do it -well-? Or how to do it at all?
@Mitch I don't have a problem with the answers that were relevant to the question I was trying to ask.
Long story short, I like to clear out questions in the Unanswered list. In that list are some questions that have perfectly valid and detailed answers in the comments.
Being surprised, I decided to ask on Meta how to proceed.
@KitFox Wait...are you saying I'm just a community member? I am special. I am unique. Hey are you also looking at my ass? And with a frown not a smile?
What's the difference between the button at the top called "Unanswered" and the tab under "Questions" button called "unanswered"?
It is not the same answers that appears in both, so they must have a different function.
The president of the division got a look at the UI I've designed for our new reporting system, loved it, and now everyone is trying to get a piece of it.
When I was in advertising I never won any awards for the big projects, because if they looked like they were going to succeed, everyone wanted to "get involved" by contributing to what inevitably turned out to be a mess. All my awards were for under-the-radar spots that nobody wanted to touch.
@KitFox She sprang it on me at the end of the day in a meeting. "Did you get the wireframe I sent you?" I was at work at 6:30 a.m. and this was like 4:30, and I didn't have the wit to lie and say no. So I tried to say "We'll talk." But she pushed it. And it went downhill from there.
Everybody thinks that have something good to offer. If you want to handle interference smoothly, you will need to use this experience to listen and learn what you need to know to get out ahead of it next time.
"Kathy, I appreciated the work you put in on the wireframe in the last project. Let's work on it together in this round, so you can show me what you do."
I know. I'm just tired of the game. I honestly don't care about getting credit for stuff. I just want to do interesting work and make decent money and then get the fuck out of Dodge in a few years.
Look, there are two possibilities: either you will succeed or you will fail. If you succeed, no problem. If you fail, you will have more information about what it takes to succeed.
@KitFox Then just be yourself. Show 'em you're smart and talented, and if they start to pull at the thread of your work-flow sweater and it starts to unravel, admit you don't know enough about that particular bit but would like to learn more, you're a quick study, etc.
@KitFox Nobody ever is what they were hoping to be. The best you can do is to find a way to be happy about what you are.
Yeah. I guess I shouldn't let myself be paralyzed by one misstep. If I'd been less cocky, I would have contacted her and told her I don't have any process flow docs to bring.
'fem. proper name, from French, from Old High German Geretrudis, from ger "spear" + trut "beloved, dear."' or possibly 'From Proto-Germanic *gaizaz (“spear”) + *þrūþ- (“strength”) or *trut- (“maiden, dear”)'
the recall process is pretty painless. You put in your address, serial number, and submit a photo of the serial number on the device, and they ship you a new one.
so that's cool
my apc power bar is so old it's yellow now, except the parts that were obscured by the plugs.
Guys, while being a programmer, do you think CSI or FBI or government spokesperson will ever come to your door and say "Mr. (your surname), your country needs you"?
I'd expect more "We notice that you don't have a criminal record and don't hang around with suspicious people. We're arresting you just to be on the safe side."
Guys, when you are writing a letter or an email, what are ways to refer to recipient of the paper? Such as Student Office. Of course I can just say "Student Office" but I want to know alternatives (Just curious).
