12:08 AM
I got to use a highlighter! For something supposedly useful!

user19161
@aediaλ Very cryptic.

and fortunately, after all my old ones dried up, I got a new one, or else it would have been marked in whatever color of Sharpie I still have that works
@WillHunting Well, I leave it to you to judge whether anything I say I'm doing is actually of any use to anyone

user19161
I thought sharpie was a pencil sharpener.

Goodness, no, it's permanent marker

user19161
@aediaλ I think now I know.

12:11 AM
Are you still living in the dark ages out there? Where are your Sharpies? Your glitter pens? Your glue sticks?
Hi @sim! Bye @sim! I've gotta skedaddle.
May your evenings be sunny and bright and not filled with to-do lists!

12:58 AM
yawns and shrugs

1:35 AM
Hi!
I'm trying to get AHK to parse a string with unicode characters.
But it refuses to do so. Normally it can deal with unicode, but somehow parsing or regex-replacing a string messes up the unicode.
But I don't expect any of you to be amateurish enough to be using AHK.

Hi.
You must be doing it wrong.
:P

Ahh!
I don't think so.

OK. So why isn't it working then?

unicode regex is notoriously finicky

It is very strange.

1:46 AM
Ahh!

I have this string: æɐɑɒʌ
I want Regex to return the last character, so I have it search for .$.

0
Q: Must had vs must have

MohammadIf someone says that they had been to Florida on a recent trip, which one of the following would be a correct respone: That must had been fun. That must have been fun. Or is there a better way of saying this?

general reference?
@Cerberus and what does it return?

This: æɐɑɒʌ
Replacement is $0.

@JSBᾶngs I think so, unless he can explain why he thinks it should be "had."

If I make the replacement $0q, it gives æɐɑɒʌq.
With replacement z$0q, it gives æɐɑɒzq.
Let's see what happens when I add \ to the original string.
Nope, doesn't help, now it prints the slashes too.
Ahhhh!

1:52 AM
so it's seeing it as one character? that's odd

Apparently.

Well, you said your search expression is .$. right?

Yes?
I mean, no: not the period.
Just this: .$

Oh.
That makes more sense.
No, wait. Isn't that any string, then?

.$

1:56 AM
Any character followed by end of string.

oh, man
my wife and i are watching Hoarders. this one is really bad.

$ matches end of string? I thought that was just an anchor.

@Kitḫ Huh? No I thought that was end of string?

@Kit it anchors the match at end of string, but it doesn't actually match any character itself

It is an anchor in the replacement: $0, $1 and such.
^string$

1:58 AM
@JSBᾶngs Agh. I always find regex confusing.
And yet I seem to use it frequently.
I assume you know the XKCD?

yes
any one in particular?
this one?

Yeah. That one.

Haha.

well, i also know regular expressions

Well, I won't be Regexman any time soon.

2:00 AM
You don't get the alt-text that way though.

giggle

i didn't know we had XKCD magic linkage here!
that's exciting

Well, it is run by computer geeks.
Also, it makes Reg crazy.
I mean really crazy.
Not in a I'll-ping-him kind of way.

poor Reg

2:03 AM
@JSBᾶngs Do you feel like XKCD-Magicman yet?

What's a good rhyme for "willows grow"?
"Silly ho"?

@Cerberus sometimes i do
@Kitḫ billows flow
are we trying to rhyme both words?

@JSBᾶngs I would draw you a suit if I had Photoshop installed.
"children know"?

i do this all the time

"pilgrims flow"?

2:05 AM
@JSBᾶngs Maybe not.
"Pillows know"

@Kitḫ tulips blow

ul/il?

@JSBᾶngs Oh, thank god I am not the only one.

@JSBᾶngs nods
I also walk on/around/etc. features of my floor when I'm on the phone.

2:07 AM
Very frustrating.

hee hee

Are those helpful?

oh, god
this woman urinates in bottles and then KEEPS THE BOTTLES
THE BOTTLES FULL OF PEE

Oh that's disgusting.

2:09 AM
oh, man

I don't want to know what she does with poop.

this is the worst hoarders i've ever watched
seriously, i wouldn't try to clean that house
i would burn it to the ground and buy another one

@Kitḫ Thanks! But actually I've been staring at that first one for a while already. sad faces

Damn it. I want to be helpful!

@JSBᾶngs Haha that is just perfect. But why??
@Kitḫ I do appreciate it!

2:10 AM
wow everyone is still here don't you guys all have places to be?

Everyone here always helps me, and I am not giving back.

@Cerberus because she's insane?

Perhaps I should find some perl regex tester online and try it there first.

@MrShinyandNew i am where i need to be. at home watching hoarders with my wife.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Says the pot to the kettle.

2:11 AM
@JSBᾶngs No doubt! But I wonder what her insane reason is, what she is thinking.
Yes, pot, and hi.

@Kitḫ Well I left here then came back

@Cerberus she doesn't have plumbing, because her water got turned off several years ago

and from my sample size of two points in time, it appears you guys never left.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 So did I. If you were here, you would have known that.

Shannon's theorem be damned.

2:12 AM
@JSBᾶngs Ahh that makes sense. But...can't she just throw it down the sink?

@Kitḫ but I wasn't here so I can't know

Exactly. taps nose

@Cerb she probably could, but see above re: insane

Anyway I'm really just in-between Dexter episodes while my wife takes a shower.

Hawt!

2:13 AM
Was that directed at me?

Yes!
Crazy blood-spattered TV, sexy wife in the shower. What could be hotter?

@JSBᾶngs I was just wondering whether her pee was of value to her, whether she hoards it too, or it was something else.

i think Kit is trying to hit on your wife

I am shocked.

2:14 AM
Me? No. I have no libido these days.

It would be hotter if I were with her, I suppose.

Hmm I thought it had improved a bit?

I am crossing my fingers that this new oral contraceptive will make me horny as a mountain goat though.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Naturally, but see, in my imagination, you can be.

hm, contraceptives. They can be treacherous in that regard.

You could make it your reality.

2:15 AM
too late, she's already done.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 and you were here talking with us

@Kitḫ You weren't taking any? Or other kinds?

you missed your chance, man

Don't worry, there'll be other chances for me to miss too :p

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Yes, indeedy. Apparently my old ones don't work well any more since I've had kids and gotten old. So we're trying something new.

2:17 AM
My wife took some a few years ago, one of them made her really moody, and let's just say that it didn't have the effect YOU're looking for.

@Kitḫ your older contraceptives don't work? i don't understand that.

It wasn't until she was comparing pill-experiences with a coworker who said "I hated taking my last pill, it made me really angry all the time" that we realized what was going on.

Well, that's the issue at hand now. Crazy moodiness, insomnia, "breakthrough" bleeding, blood sugars all over the place, etc.
Fatigue.

Sounds fairly typical (of the list of common problems)

ah, ok
why isn't your husband doing his part?

2:18 AM
whoops, time to go

They work insofar as they prevent ovulation. Presumably.
@JSBᾶngs You mean...?
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Yes, but all manageable if you tweak what you take.

snip snip

Oh. Not enough funds yet.

what were you thinking of?
also, doesn't insurance cover that?

I don't think so.
But come to think of it, we have new insurance as of Jan 1, so maybe.
I ought to check.
Anyway, I am hoping it will help the libido part.

2:20 AM
Yeah sounds like a good thing to try.

My husband just muttered "Work the lock, don't look at the mammoth."
LOL

is he asleep?

Haha what the...

He's playing Skyrim.

2:23 AM
Ahh.
Kind of you to let him.

Haha.

Skyrim is even better than sleep!

The reference is for Magnum PI.

the people cleaning the pee lady's house are all wearing gas masks
i can only imagine what it smells like there

Oh dear.
Is that what happens?

2:28 AM
Oh no!

try it and find out

I do use Gosub...
hides
Why is that so bad? You lose track of what goes to where?

2:47 AM
What? Huh? Where?
Good night, friends!
Bite me, enemies!

Night!
bites in a friendly way

g'night everyone
i too retire

Bye!

3:17 AM
Well, I guess that just leaves me and man's best friend(s).
@Cerberus: Et tu, cane?

@Robusto Adsum!
The vocative of canis is canis.
Just so you know.

Ah. I knew that. I was just, er, testing you.

Oh, yes, just as I thought.
1st declension (puella): voc. puella. 2nd (servus/filius/bellum): serve, fili, bellum. 3rd/4th/5th (the rest): canis, rex, imperator, res, manus, etc.

Si puer cum puellula moraretur in cellula, felix coniunctio.

If a boy and a little girl should spend time in a store room, there will be a happy union?

3:29 AM
Exactly.

Where do you get these things?

> Tempore brumali vir patiens, animo vernali lasciviens.

In wintery weather man is patient, lusting with a vernal mind?

> In the winter man is patient, the breath of spring makes him lust.

Hmm that is freely translated.

3:33 AM
Yep. No charge.
Amor volat undique,
captus est libidine.
Iuvenes, iuvencule
coniunguntur merito.
(Soprano)
Siqua sine socio,
caret omni gaudio;
tenet noctis infima
sub intimo hidden
cordis in custodia:
(Boys)
fit res amarissima.
In case you haven't guessed, these are lyrics.
...
Cupid flies everywhere
seized by desire.
Young men and women
are rightly coupled.

The girl without a lover
misses out on all pleasures,
she keeps the dark night
in the depth of her heart;
it is a most bitter fate.

"Hidden"?

...
Crap. "Hidden" needs to go in the translation.
"Hidden in the depth of her heart."

Good translation.
Though "lover" is a bit—I don't know.
Socius is more like companion.
What is it?

Paramour?
Here's another, not Latin. Let's see how well you do ...
Chramer, gip die varwe mir,
die min wengel roete,
damit ich die jungen man
an ir dank der minnenliebe noete.

Seht mich an,
jungen man!
lat mich iu gevallen!

Minnet, tugentliche man,
minnecliche frouwen!
minne tuot iu hoch gemout
unde lat iuch in hohen eren schouwen

Seht mich an
jungen man!
lat mich iu gevallen!

Wol dir, werit, daz du bist
also freudenriche!
ich will dir sin undertan
durch din liebe immer sicherliche.

Seht mich an,
jungen man!
lat mich iu gevallen!

Socius is a very neutral word: nothing about amorous love, so it's like a euphemism here.

3:39 AM
Understatement.

Yes.
Hmm is that old German?
Few words I don't know.
Iu, varwe, wengel...

I bet you get the sense of it though.

Yes, sort of.

@Cerberus You, colors (farbe), cheeks

Oh, I know varwe and wengel.
Jinx!
Got in on the second read.
Right, iu = you, makes sense, I wasn't sure.

3:43 AM
Carmina Burana (), Latin for "Songs from Beuern" (short for: Benediktbeuern), is the name given to a manuscript of 254 poems and dramatic texts mostly from the 11th or 12th century, although some are from the 13th century. The pieces were written principally in Medieval Latin; a few in Middle High German, and some with traces of Old French or Provençal. Some are macaronic, a mixture of Latin and German or French vernacular. They were written by students and clergy when the Latin idiom was the lingua franca across Italy and western Europe for travelling scholars, universities and theolog...

Ah!
There was a seminar about those here last week.

I guess you didn't attend.

Nope.

Shoulda.

Too late.

3:46 AM
Have you ever listened to Orff's setting of the poems?

Nope.

Hiatus maxime deflendus.

Sane merito dicis.

Pars sanitatis velle sanari fruit.

A part of health enjoys wanting to heal?
I seem to recall your misquoting this before.
Fruit is wrong.

3:51 AM
The wish to be cured is itself a step toward health.

Should be est.

Homines dum docent discunt.

People learn while they teach.

@Cerberus I don't think it's a misquotation. I think you're just wrong.

@Robusto Impossible.
It is from Ovid.
And it should be fuit, not fruit.

3:53 AM
O formose puer, nimium ne crede colori!

Fruit is actually not a word in Latin, it cannot exist.

Non omnia possumus omnes.

Oh shapely boy, do not trust color too much!
All of us are not all things?

@Cerberus Too literal. Free it up a bit.

@Robusto It's hard; I have no idea what colori refers to.

3:55 AM
@Cerberus It's from Publius Vergilius Maro.
"Don’t rely too much on your looks, lovely boy!"

Right.
Well, it's poetry.

@Cerberus We can’t all do everything!

Oops I misread. I read sumus.
But then it isn't a complete sentence, with possumus.

Yes. You are not paying attention. You are a naughty boy.

There is an elliptical infinitive.

3:58 AM
Plura faciunt homines e consuetudine quam e ratione.

People do more things out of habit than reason.

So, you gonna throw down with Seneca?

@Robusto Sorry, but that is just wrong.

Quandoque bonus dormitat Homerus.

Line 249. This is a reliable source.
@Robusto Even good (old) Homer sometimes sleeps.

4:04 AM
Ha. Then it's misquoted all over hell and beyond.
@Cerberus Meaning, "Even a wise man fucks up sometimes."
Me duce tutus eris.

@Robusto Yes, that often happens with quotations.
@Robusto In Dutch we say, "even the best horse stumbles sometimes". Or a translation of your quotation.
@Robusto You will be safe with me as your guide/leader.

@Cerberus Yes. As evinced by my having fixed you up for singles night with Slate.

Hahaha yes.
There is a secret page for singles behind every Slate article.

Behind the velvet rope. Ah, yes.

It's hardly velvet...
More like dirty plastic.

4:09 AM
Arcanum arcanorum.

Sancta sanctorum.

Sub rosa.

Is it?

Sutor, ne ultra crepidam.
I fear I must now retire to my bedchamber. Otium cum dignitate.

Cobbler, don't go beyond your last.
Sint tibi somnia dulcia!

4:14 AM
Thanks.
Cya later.

Usque ad proximam!

@Cerberus: Come spend a bar in WMT. We've been attacked by an upstart with crummy decks. I'm spending my stam and going to bed.

All right.

K, CU.

Bye!
@Robusto You call this crummy??
I will never even scratch those guys.
Well, this was a big waste of time.

O. I C U R M T.

Hai.

ˈhaʊ.diː

/hɛ'leʊ/
Are our ɛ's and ʊ's small for you too?

Yes, at least at the moment they are.

Hmm.
So it is this chat.
And how do you type IPA characters?

6:21 AM
I imagine it's font substitution in the browser.

Ah, right.

Copy/paste.

Any way to change that?

I think not. The chatroom uses Verdana, I believe ... and Verdana is simply lacking a lot of good characters.

Hmmm.
Annoying.

6:22 AM
But we have a lot of good characters in the chat room as compensation.

My aɪ.piː.eɪ program is complete!
@MetaEd Thanks.
You too.
Quite a character.
Okay, bed time.
Bai!

6:43 AM
Bye!

@Cerberus One can force FF to use certain fonts though.

@Gigili What do you want to mean with this sentence? It is fine structurally.

user19161
@Gigili Oh I answered even though I am not all.

@Gigili Because it is not even?

12:30 PM
@WillHunting Uh oh, it's even. Right. I should have studied math when I was younger!
You're all from now on because you answered my question alone.
I wanted to say the transcript is not included (I just found out I can say this instead of that) , an audio along with text which is being read, something like that.
Are you Jasper @WillHunting, BTW?

user19161
@Gigili Yes, I gave you the magic camera together with Mahnax.

user19161
@Gigili OK, I hope your problem is solved!

@Cerberus I must have got lucky.
Doesn't matter. We got crushed anyway.
