@MetaEd Um, what?
I can't participate in battles that involve mere statistics.
Sorry.

I'd offer a dogfight but it's not practical.
Hmm. Who can I compete with then.

Me!
I only have 2.5x your edits.

12:28 AM
imagines defenestrating paperwork instead of reading it

@aediaλ hugs
Want a cuppa? I've just put the kettle on.

stubbornly stares at backpack that is doing a poor job of reading and summarizing its contents
Hi!
Yes, I would love that.
It is a bit warmer today but still cccold out there.

hands @aedia cuppa in favorite blue mug

Aww thank you!

Mug has a story. Wanna hear it?

12:33 AM
Yes!!

I didn't say it was a particularly good story. Still wanna hear it?

Of course.

Hiya.

settles down by imaginary fire which is really bumpy bus seat

This favorite mug of mine was given me by my high school sweetheart on the occasion of having my senior pictures taken, in the hopes that it would avoid an argument.
It didn't.
But mostly because he told me so when he gave it to me.

12:36 AM
Haha! Aww that's kinda both cute and sad.

It looks something damn close to this.
It has been my favorite ever since.

Aww.

Oo pretty.

Sweet.

He was a good boyfriend, but my teenage self was not very nice.

12:37 AM
Why did he have to say that?
Hmm.

Because everyone is stupid as teenagers?

I don't remember what the argument was about. He probably thought he was safe because I loved the mug.

Hehe.

He probably didn't do something I demanded because he was working or his mom needed a ride somewhere or something.

Aww.

12:39 AM
I wasn't exactly understanding of other people.
Actually, it might have been that he didn't drop me off at the picture studio.
I probably wrote it in my diary actually! Shall I have a look?

@aediaλ Hey! I resent (resemble?) that remark.

@Mahnax It's not your fault. You just haven't figured stuff out yet.
You will. It's OK.

@Kitḫ Yes!!

BRB.

@Kitḫ Haha.

12:41 AM
Hehe I was whiny and entitled.

Reading people's diaries is fun! Too bad it is unethical unless they permit you to.

Ooh, looks like I'm going to a movie tonight.

@aediaλ Towards your parents, or other people too?
@Mahnax Good! Which one?

@Cerberus Um, I think it's called Haywire.

@Mahnax It's a good thing you won't be stuck like that forever :P

12:42 AM
@aediaλ Haha. I think I'm a little less stupid than most people my age, at least I hope so.

Seriously, teenage years are rough years. It's like being an adult without fully realizing yet that adults are just teenagers stuff has happened to
Being less stupid also makes it hard.

@Mahnax Ah, an action movie! Have fun!

Damn. I didn't write it down.

So far, being a teenager hasn't been that horrible.
@Cerberus I shall!
@Kitḫ That's a shame.

@Kitḫ Aww.

12:45 AM
@Mahnax Being a teenager isn't too bad once you get past the teenage part.
It gets so much better after high school.

@Kitḫ Heh.

Yeah, but some kids have a decent time in high school too.

Well, OK. How about you pick a date between 7/3/1987 and 2001ish and I'll find the closest entry and give you the good stuff?

Depends on my things.

Depends on how cool you turn out to be.

12:46 AM
Yay!

;-)

Hmm, let's go August 3rd, 1987.

How about 1987, September 1?
Ooh we're close.

Yep. Compromise; August 17.

I would like to read her first school day.

12:48 AM
Hmm, that would be interesting.
Go for it!
I'm going to dinner, I shall read the transcript after I return.

OK bye!

@Cerb sorry I'm having trouble keeping up on phone. Toward parents entitled, whiny at everything. Was lonely. I wish there had been an 'it gets better' project back then.

August 16th. I got new blue shoes about two weeks ago. School is going to start soon. I have a new Trapper Keeper(tm). It's called "Paradise". It's cool! I just had my room rearranged today. Sunny and hot.

Bye @Mahnax! Don't grow up too fast! :)

Then in a footnote: (tm) Mead.
guffaw

12:50 AM
@aediaλ Heh ah OK. I agree!
@Kitḫ Haha, is that a brand or something?

Yep.

How very scientific.
Or academic.

September 8. School starts today. Mrs. Wellington is pretty nice.
@Cerberus I think the word you are looking for is "dorky."

Heh no comment.
It's cute at that age.
You sounded meeker than I expected.

You actually had a trapper keeper?! jealous

12:52 AM
Oh, that was my second one. My first one had horses on it.

No MAN THIS SUCKS, I HATE ALL OF THIS, THE WORLD IS EVIL AND I AM RIGHT that one often sees.

That other one had beach and tropical birds.
@Cerberus I wasn't a teenager yet.

Heh OK then.

I got to buy Lisa Frank folders if I used my allowance money for them, but I don't think I ever had a real trapper keeper!

Do you have one from when you started high school?

12:54 AM
@aediaλ Wow. We got ours at Marden's. I explained it to Cerb last night.
@Cerberus I'm looking for it.
OK. It's a bit long.
August 31. Orientation. It was interesting. I met a girl from V–, she's in Biology with me. I think her name is Elly. I'm not sure.
Note: It was actually Ellie, who turned out to be my arch-nemesis. And it's funny that I mention the town that way, like it's so far away. It's about five miles from my house.
Saw Matt for the first time all summer. We exchanged huge smiles (at least mine was, you could probably see my molars!) from three rows away. We'll most likely be partners in Eng 101.
God, I hope so.

Brb have to walk home from bus stop.

@Kitḫ Hahaha.
@Kitḫ Ahh your crush?

Actually, when we were in the auditorium, getting our Home Bases and stuff, I saw Matt and Kevin but Matt didn't notice me. Kevin pointed me out to him and I pretended not to notice. Matt glanced over and then whispered (or said; it was noisy) something to Kevin.
@Cerberus At the time, yes. And since preschool.
It's funny I forgot how mad I was for him.

Wow you actually had an interesting life at that age!

I hope Tuesday is just as wonderful as today. Not much else happened.
That's it.

1:00 AM
Pretty cool.
Promise me you will give those diaries to your children when you die.

I haven't decided.
There is a whole lot of stuff that maybe they ought not to know about their mother.

What if they're 60?

It's really rather hilarious, reading the high school stuff. So much drama! swoons

don't give your diaries to your children... unless you were a really different teenager
i've destroyed most of my high school poetry
fortunately i never kept a diary

Why!?

1:02 AM
I've kept a diary up through a few years ago.
I started keeping one specifically for them, but there's never time.
That's one reason I was hoping to start writing again.

i've had a blog for about 9 years though. actually a series of blogs

@Kitḫ You must be the first parent to resolve to keep a diary about your children and abandon it.
@JSBᾶngs But why?

what's more interesting is that my mom kept a diary throughout my high school years, and gave it to me when i was in college

Wow!

@Cerberus no good could ever come from anyone reading it

1:04 AM
Why not?

@JSBᾶngs That's what I will probably do instead.

I am very glad my father saved some drawings and my mother some silly letters.

I'm just also fearful that I will die before then.

@Cerberus i've only been able to read it once. it's too heartbreaking. i was not nice to my parents at the time.

Would you like another entry?

1:06 AM
ys plz

From mine, I mean.

@JSBᾶngs Hmm okay, if it was really negative, I can understand.
@Kitḫ Yes!!
But maybe rip out the bad parts?

Oh, hey. I wrote some memorable quotations in the back of this one.
"Love is ever the beginning of knowledge as fire is of light." - T. Carlyle

Hmm.

I like that one. I should embroider it on a pillow.
OK. Pick a date.

1:08 AM
Hi again!

would that be by Thomas Carlyle?
Thomas Carlyle (4 December 1795 – 5 February 1881) was a Scottish satirical writer, essayist, historian and teacher during the Victorian era. "Thomas Carlyle" (bio), Dumfries-and-Galloway, 2008, webpage: [http://www.dumfries-and-galloway.co.uk/people/carlyle.htm dumfries-and-galloway.co.uk-carlyle]. He called economics "the dismal science", wrote articles for the Edinburgh Encyclopedia, and became a controversial social commentator. Coming from a strict Calvinist family, Carlyle was expected to become a preacher by his parents, but while at the University of Edinburgh, he lost his...

2001 9/11

he was an interesting fellow

I think it must have been.

Is there another Carlyle?

1:08 AM
Sept. 11th? Hang on a sec. I'll need to get the other volumes for that one.

I had a diary that had quotes by women on all the pages. I think that's one of the few journals I ever actually filled up

@Cerb that was kind of a significant date

Little feminist, huh.

i don't keep a diary, but i can tell you exactly what i was doing

@JSBᾶngs Really?

1:10 AM
@Cerberus 9-11 2001? just a little

In Dutch one would say "mwah".

Oh. My. God.
I just found a card from one of my ex-boyfriends, tucked in the back of one of my diaries.
3

Oh!!
Quote please!

With nude polaroids in it.

NO WAY
Of you? Him? Both?

1:11 AM
Him.
Oh. Ouch.
Shall I transcribe the card?

Wow, what people will do.
Yes!!

He'd cut a picture from an ad from Preacher...

@aediaλ Hahaha.

Your children will laugh so hard their noses will drop off.

Preacher is a comic book series created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, published by the American comic book label Vertigo (an imprint of DC Comics), with painted covers by Glenn Fabry. The series consists of 75 issues in total—66 regular, monthly issues, five one-shot specials and a four-issue Preacher: Saint of Killers limited series. The entire run has been collected in nine trade paperback editions. The final monthly issue, number 66, was published in July 2000. Characters Plot Preacher tells the story of Jesse Custer, a down-and-out preacher in the small Texas tow...
The front of the card says "I'm gonna love you forever."

1:13 AM
Haha.

The printed part inside says "Think you can handle that?"

Haha. Wait, that can't be good.

Oh, dear.
shields Bob's eyes

Pah!

Heh.
You hate it when I do that, don't you?

1:14 AM
Yes.

is that the whole transcription?

Just wait.
@Sim: Just in time!!
4 mins ago, by Kitḫ
I just found a card from one of my ex-boyfriends, tucked in the back of one of my diaries.

@Cerberus ...for what?

He writes:
K–
I'm not very good ---at--- with sentimentalities. For someone who's worked hard to cut themselves off from emotions best ---alone--- left alone, to have those reactivated in a very intense, cool, and real way was a bit of a shock. I'm so glad I didn't see this coming. You're incredible. My blood for your life. I love you. D.

Aww.

1:16 AM
Hmm. Strikethroughs didn't strike.

That is sort of sweet.

So...people used to actually give real nude photos?

strike?

yeah, that's not so bad

@Mahnax How?
But the photos...

1:17 AM
@Cerberus --- then content ---

No, I am not sharing the photos.

I suppose you couldn't upload...
Hehe.

Thank God.

D'oh.

I forgot we used to say "My blood for your life."

1:18 AM
@Mahnax Like this?

test

Yay!

Yep!

Huh but then why didn't Kit'ses work?

I'm not sure.

1:19 AM
She didn't use the right number of dashes

@Kitḫ So how does he look? Good?

No wait. I lied. No idea.

Yes she did.

It has to do with multiline formatting.
Not sure what though.

Hmm, that's too bad.

1:20 AM
@Cerberus He was not bad looking. Probably the trimmest ex-.

@Kitḫ Oh, yes, that must be it.

Shit. I've been flipping through this diary, only to realize that I ended it on August 27, 2001.

Ah so it was vanity too.

I need to get the one from upstairs.

Heh.

1:23 AM
@Kitḫ Polaroids! Real polaroids, like aren't even made now... That's so, uh, sweet?

I like it.

But it's so much easier to send pics in the middle of the day with a cell.
Not that I would know.

Ahem.

13Sept. What to say. It's been two days since the Trade Towers went down and the Pentagon got hit. It still doesn't seem real, not to anyone. I have nightmares about dying, like I haven't had since I was a kid—dreams where there was nothing I could do. It's given everyone a sense of helplessness, I think, but it's also made everyone want to pull together.

@simchona Uh-huh. Suuuure.

1:24 AM
@simchona Didn't have those back then.

whistles blithely

I never got anyone's polaroids. There were digital cameras by the time I was old enough for those kind of photos, or at least I had one...

@simchona Tsk, tsk.

@Mahnax What?

There's more. Should I go on?

1:25 AM
Yes!

@simchona No whistling in this chat.

@Kitḫ Quite interesting what it must have been like for Americans.
We were shocked too, of course, but it was thousands of miles away.

It unleashed thousands of people on a small town in Newfoundland.
Who were all welcomed with open arms, and invited into homes.

Huh?
Hey does anyone happen to know why they were unable to stop the second plane?

That first day, when I found out, when I saw those towers go down, all I can remember thinking was "oh, God, this must be some horrible joke." We are all grieving and no one wants to be alone anymore. 'We grope together and avoid speech.' Worst of all knowing that it could be any of us next. We were just lucky this time.
@Cerberus The planes were all grounded for days.

1:28 AM
@Cerberus Many planes bound for the US were redirected to a small town in Newfoundland, where the passengers had to stay. They were then welcomed into people's homes, and given free food, etc.

@Kitḫ Yeah I remember.

It happened super early in the morning where I live. It just so happened that my parents woke up and turned on the news at maybe 4am.

@Mahnax i never knew that. that's awesome.

@Mahnax Oh, ah! I suppose that makes some sort of sense.

Here's a story. I'm friends with a woman who was engaged to the pilot of the last plane to land that day.

1:29 AM
i was playing Starcraft and reading email. some people on an email thread started mentioning something going on in New York, so I turned on the news

@JSBᾶngs Yeah, it is. Unfortunately, in bigger places like Toronto, hotels just jacked up prices to make loads of money off of it. Like $700 per night. Which is horrible.
@Kitḫ Cool!

She was standing in the airport, arguing with the airline staff, trying to find out what happened to his damn plane.

our oldest is screaming right now because i wouldn't give him the telephone

@JSBᾶngs How old?

@Mahnax three

1:30 AM
His flight and United 93 were the only two that were not accounted for.

@JSBᾶngs Haha.

He called her on his cell, and told her they were down safely. She announced it to the people waiting.

Okay, bye!

The families of the people on his flight cheered. The rest asked her if she knew about the other plane.
Which she didn't.

And that was the one that hit the Pentagon?

1:32 AM
That was the one that went down in Pennsylvania.

93 was the one that the passengers took down IIRC

Ah.
What was it headed for/at?

DC.
Same as the one that hit the Pentagon.

The White House?

Dual redundancy.

1:33 AM
They were both meant for the Pentagon, then?

Presumably the White House. They figured that was the target, but too difficult to spot.

Ah.

Maybe the Capitol Building.

Difficult to hit too, I imagine, with taller buildings in the way.

I don't know if they ever knew for sure.
Well, it's not like DC really has skyscrapers.

1:34 AM
No?

And the Mall makes a rather nice landing strip.

I see.

i think the capitol building would be easy to spot from the air, but i've never ridden an airplane
@Cerb there is a law in DC that nothing can be taller than the capitol building

Ah!
Good.
We have such laws everywhere too.

I just remember the news saying they thought the hijackers couldn't find the White House, so they chose the Pentagon because it is readily identifiable from the air.

1:35 AM
Except far away from city centres.

Anyhow. Another date?

Hmm that might make sense; but didn't they have electronic navigation?
You pick one.

Nah. That's no fun.
I know what's happened in my life.

the hijackers weren't necessarily savvy on all of the navigation equipment

Hmm.

1:36 AM
This is like a prism of mysteries.

But most dates seem rather arbitrary.

january 11, 2000

You get little pieces of me at a time.

Indeed.

January 9th or 13th?

1:38 AM
8
9 i mean

9Jan. I told H— this weekend that it's over. I hope we will continue to be friends and talk to each other, but I can't work things out like this. Not while we're apart and I'm not going to quit school just to be with him. I feel like shit and really sad, but I've got to get on with my life somehow and I think this is the only way for me.
I hope I am not making a huge mistake. But I suppose even if I have, my life will go on. I'll manage somehow. I want so much to be with him, but the 'him' I thought he was. Or maybe not. Argh. I miss him so much. Sometimes I think I'm just crazy.

Aww.
Sounds wise.
I presume you have no regrets.

Not now, I don't.

Good.

Well, this is fun. Is it fun for you? I get to be the center of attention, and you get...uh. Are you getting anything out of it?

1:47 AM
I like it.
I don't have to do anything, and I'm being entertained.

OK. Pick another date. Maybe one that is significant to you, and you can see what I wrote on that day.

Hmm I can't think of any major world events.
Oh, the fall of the Berlin wall!

Not world events. Personally significant events.

When was that again?
I think summer?

1989.

1:49 AM
Dec 17, 2005

I don't remember the date.

pick my date!

@JSBᾶngs I probably don't have anything. Let me see...
Closest I have is November 29th, 2005. I'm surprised I have even that.

> The Berlin Wall was officially referred to as the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart" (German: Antifaschistischer Schutzwall) by GDR authorities, implying that neighbouring West Germany had not been fully de-Nazified.

i'm trying to remember personally significant dates before that, and failing

1:52 AM
Wedding date?

The wall "fell" on 9 November 1989.

@Kit yeah
i suppose i could add March 17 of the same year

29Nov. It's been since the end of August that I wrote last. Wow. The deal with the building fell though on financing (a silly technicality really) and we're currently fighting to get our earnest money back. S— and I have moved in together on V— Street. It's an owner-occupied duplex and the landlords seem very nice. It's also a good deal, with laundry and wireless internet.
It's been a month now, and we've still got boxes to unpack, but we've been busy.
Haha. Oh. This is good...

is S your current husband?

@JSBᾶngs Yes.
We met a nice stripper named "Katie" at Julie and M—'s Halloween party (vamps and tramps) and we went to visit J— and C— in Burlington the weekend berfore Thanksgiving (which was S— and J—'s birthday).
There's actually a lot more kind of housekeeping-ish. Want to hear it, or skip it, and I'll look for Nov 9th, 1989?

1:58 AM
Stripper!
I see.
Wild already.

Already? It was 2005. We were winding down by then.
