No, the best way to be mean is to be in-your-face. Passive aggression just comes off as annoying. You want anyone who tries to say anything mean to you to end up in tears before you're halfway done. Then they'll think twice about being mean to someone as mean as you again.

It's hard to not talk to him, since he's on teamspeak daily and he's a friend of friends of mine on teamspeak

He's just particularly harsh to me

I have had him on ignore for a full month at some point, but conversations get very awkward when you can't hear one of the people in a conversation

Also, look into background. Find former acquaintances and ask them if there's anything he's particularly embarrassed by or ashamed of. Then every time he's mean, casually bring it up, ideally in front of as many other people as possible. A retort like "well at least I have more than 26 hairs on my head" will usually stop the meanness in one go if he doesn't like his baldness being pointed out. If you dig up real dirt, you can try blackmail, but that's not usually necessary.

Anyway, the lesson here is that the only person who is free from all mean people is the meanest person in the world. If you want to avoid meanness, just become the meanest person ever, and everyone else will be nice to you. It's a very simple plan and I don't know why more people don't follow it.

In any case, I should say that you don't need to be mean in general, only to mean people. Mean people are usually mean because they have low self-esteem. If you're mean enough back at them, they transition from being mean to avoiding you or being reclusive, and eventually to submissiveness. If you have a high self-esteem, you can brazenly be mean back at them until they crack. It's a very easy way to deal with such people.

Most habitually mean people need some mental help. Perhaps the nice thing to do would be to try to give it to them. But I'm not a trained mental health professional, and I have no business trying to convince such people to seek help. The best I can do is to optimize my interactions with them.

Being mean is a defense mechanism for them, and by breaking it, there's a chance they may realize their own weakness and seek help. That's not my primary goal, which is just to be done with them, but it is certainly possible, and would really be a pretty nice thing to do.

Also, if we're making the Jesus vs Hitler analogy, let's not forget that Hitler lived 23 years longer than Jesus.
