the inverse is also true

crafting uses CP, gathering uses GP

physical combat classes use TP

magic classes use MP

I think I figured it out. It's probably those "implicit quality requirements". For lumbergh I'm about 90% sure that's what it is, but for Solstice, I didn't think throwaway date-based hats like that had the quality reqs.
