12:40 PM
@JNat So what's for lunch :P

@Krazer as in questions? or actual lunch (which I'm about to have)?

@JNat the latter

I have nothing at home
And will leave in some 30 minutes
I'll have to grab something
probably McDonald's.... -.-'
I do not really like to go there... but it is cheap and fast....
how much do you pay for a cheese burger there?
just the hamburger, with no fries nor drink

@JNat just a regular 1 patty one?

@Krazer yes

12:50 PM
the prices vary but I think it's still 0.99 USD + tax

it's cheaper then, I guess

or about 0.73 Euros
minus VAT

I pay 1€ for a cheeseburger, with tax
1.20 something dollar?

@JNat 1.35 usd at the current exchange rate

mcDonald's has this thing that (AFAIC) only exists in Portugal, which is called €uroPoupança

12:52 PM
i some places enough for a double xD

Poupança being savings, or something like that

@JNat What is that?
is it like a loyalty program?

no
it's just that some products (like the cheese burger, 4 nugget pack, etc) are 'very cheap'
1€ for each of those
It would translate to something like €uroSavings
I saw it nowhere else in Europe

Oh I think we call them Value Meal items here
like how a Cheeseburger is 99 cents

@Krazer the thing is that a McMenu here (it's what it's called, with fries and drink) costs a minimum of about 4.5€
@Krazer have a look at this

12:58 PM
I dunno but tacos and pizzas are hot items here in the states, the ironic thing is that although taco bells calls itself mexican there's not a single successful taco bell franchise in mexico

@Krazer lol
@Krazer When I was in Belgium I saw on the menus of some restaurants 'Portuguese-style sardines'
when I looked at them I laughed
nothing about that was portuguese

Oh~ your kids meal toys look pretty quality. The ones here look like shit... happymeal.com/en_US/index.html#/Toys it's so bad there's a warning on the top left

I guess the mexicans would feel the same about Taco bell

"Hey kids, this is advertising"
In Japan they have the McPork as a 100 yen value menu (~$1.11). It consists of a regular McDonald's hamburger bun, hand-leafed lettuce, a pork patty, and teriyaki-type sauce.

@Krazer that's nice
@Krazer did you live in Japan? or just visiting?

1:05 PM
visiting it's a tough place to live/get used to

@Krazer I'm planning to go live there next year

be at times very convenient
where at?

@Krazer I was thinking Tokyo, but let's see

the Roppongi is more foreigner friendly
as there are several foreign embassies and foreign corporate offices over there

I still don't know a lot of Japanese, so I am having trouble finding out where to search for housing
(but I am not in a hurry, it's still a long time until I go there)

1:08 PM
@JNat Ah about that be careful because a lot of places don't like to rent to foreigners even if you speak perfect Japanese
on the surface ppl can act great but the Japanese as a whole can be very xenophobic
what do you plan to do while you're over there? :D

I'm planning to either search for an internship there, or a post-graduation scholarship
the latter may be better, because of the financial help
the Japanese embassy here has some scholarships
It'll depend on whether I get one or not
But I also intend to send some CV's either way

@JNat ね、がんばるよ~

@Krazer ありがとうございます

I'll be rootin' for ya~

well, I've gotta go
I'll be here in time for the event
but probably never earlier
Cya

Q: How do we deal with answers that become obsolete as the plot advances?

Deidara-senpaiThis question Does Zetsu have a word soul? received some good answers a few days back. However, with the Naruto chapter 618, these answers became obsolete or even incorrect. Nothing personal against the people who answered them, but how do we deal with such cases? Clearly, we cannot restrict que...

1 hour later…
3:06 PM
Since I will likely not be awake at 21:00 UTC, let me post now. I think people should still be able to post answers which could change in future.

At a given point in (real life) time, there will be some unexplained plot points. Sometimes to answer questions, those unexplained points need to be "filled up". As these points are explained later in the series, some of these "fill ups" become incorrect.

However, if we are too restrictive on such speculation, we might end up making this site Wikipedia [citation needed], and that would basically make this place boring and useless.

2 hours later…
5:16 PM
@Deidara-senpai Speculation supported by facts is fine
Even if the answer turns out incorrect afterwards.

5:31 PM
Hey @Alenanno
how are you?

Note that list questions are Not Constructive network-wide and a per-site policy is not the way to deal with it. Right now you feel like "hey if we forbid them we'll have less questions, this site will die, etc." ... At first, yes, you'll have less questions but it's better to suffer a bit now than more later.
If you allow them you're going to be overwhelmed by questions like "How many anime have a dog as the protagonist?". It's true that in Beta you are less strict, but it's also true that what you do now will determine what this site will become.
Hi @MadaraUchiha
I'm good, thanks, you?
Just adding my two cents.

@Alenanno Will you be here on 21:00 UTC?

Maybe, cannot guarantee it.
I'll connect asap if I'm not here. :)

@Alenanno Do try, you'll add a lot :)

On my sites I never added a special rule for this. But this is what I do: is the site going to be long, also over time? Close and suggest a narrowing. Is the list going to be reasonably short, even over time? Leave it open.
A small list is OK.

5:35 PM
@Alenanno Reasonably scoped is the key phrase here
And it's a very thin line
@Alenanno Reasonably scoped is the key phrase here

Example: Who were Naruto's classmates in the academy? Let's pretend that the answer is not available in other wikis: there is a list but you're going to get... 10 names? They won't increase, those classmates won't change. That's a question I'd leave open.
Yes. :)

And it's a very thin line

Is there a problem with your internet connection?
:P

@Alenanno There is
Military bases always have terrible receptions

Oh?

5:38 PM
@Alenanno I always get that =)
I serve in the IDF

By the way, good idea about the chat event. Actually, you all seem quite active mods. This is going to be a good site if you keep that up.

@Alenanno Well, first we need to get more people on board.

I don't like mods that connect once every 5 days.
:P

We need some aggressive advertising
I think about IRC and Mystical thought of Reddit.
I guess we'll discuss this too today

The ads on Scifi will help, too. :)
Also using clever keywords in titles.
So that people googling will find them.

5:42 PM
@Alenanno Can you provide any examples?

@Krazer Make titles that are likely to be searched in google
SEO 101

@Krazer I can't think of anything now, but it's not an exact science. It won't solve your problems just by doing it, but it might help... You know how they say: dimes together make millions. :D Or drops make the ocean. And so on.

@Alenanno I see your point. I think it might be "little drops make a mighty ocean."

@Krazer Yeah, probably. :P

We should also take a look at out current site analytics and plan from there.

5:49 PM
Yes. (But don't share them.)

@Alenanno I made some notes in our moderator-only room. I assume that's alright since the room is private.

Ah there yes.
The other moderators can see it anyway. :P
I was watching a video that showed an example of movable type printing... This is so fascinating. :D

@Alenanno Kinetic typography?
Which one?

Very interesting
But the absolute majority is from Stack Overflow.

@Krazer The old way of printing by moving the pieces with letters.
This is an example.
Chinese one:

6:00 PM
Reminds me of this:
odd I though it would auto embed vimeo videos

I'm off now guys, later!
By the way, a Meta question summarizing what you say during the event would be nice. (You can also bookmark the event in chat.)
Later.

I thought about what makes the zombie question not a good question overnight, and I came up with an explanation that I think is satisfactory and covers a lot of these cases. But it's pretty long, so I apologize for the spam.
I've noticed that the zombies question doesn't really have anything to do with Highschool of the Dead. It's just there for convenience. If we removed the references to it, there wouldn't be any current tags which are appropriate for it. I also can't think of any good new tags for the question. Both [tag:list-of-anime] and [tag:zombies] are bad tags.
This is a pretty common problem with out-of-universe lists e.g. lists of anime. Moreover, the questions which don't have this problem I'd mostly be okay with. For example, a list of anime directed by Miyazaki could be tagged as [tag:hayao-miyazaki], which I think would make an alright question.
That's basically the problem with these questions. The zombies question is more a question about zombies than it is about anime. There's basically nothing anime-specific here. And this is pretty common for out-of-universe list questions, e.g. list of anime with dog protagonists, list of anime with fanservice, etc. None of these questions are in any way specific to anime.
This doesn't come up with any of the in-universe lists. So a list of Naruto's classmates at the academy would be okay by this criterion (it might still fail for other reasons). Or a list of all bankai-users in Bleach, or all level 5 espers in Index. All of those are very much anime-specific, and thus meet this criterion.
So I propose that for any "List of anime with X" question, we require that X be directly anime related. List of anime in the Index/Railgun universe meets this criterion, as does List of anime directed by Miyazaki. However, List of anime with zombies doesn't meet that criterion, so we don't allow it as it's **off topic**.
Note that this is a necessary but not sufficient condition for an out-of-universe list question. These are still list questions, which we need to treat with all the caution that we normally afford to list questions. If the list is too long, needs frequent maintenence, or is primarily subjective, then we close it as **not constructive**.
I posted this now because I won't be here for the event in 2 hours for the event.
*3 hours. I might show up late, but it's hard to tell at this point.

6:23 PM
@LoganM I'm thinking if the list is too long, close as NARQ, since it isn't properly scoped.
We'll talk more in a few hours. For now, I have stuff to do.
@Alenanno This whole thing about re-thinking list questions came up from a comment that Shog made.
Along with a few borderline questions that we were debating.

@Mysticial I'm fine with that, but in this case a list of zombie anime wouldn't actually be that long. ANN has 9, Wiki has 5, and AniDB has 28 (including stuff like One Piece or Hellsing where zombies really aren't that important).
Anyway I also have things that need to get done so let's continue this later.

@LoganM If it isn't that long, then I'm leaning towards actually allowing it.

2 hours later…
8:39 PM
Alright fellas, who's already here?
@Mysticial @LoganM @JNat @Krazer?

I'm here
Did anyone put together the list of list questions yet?

@Mysticial I don't think we need to review each and every one of them
We currently have two locked questions, we start from there

Right now we only have those 2.
and a few hypothetical ones

@Mysticial That's all we need

we'll see
we'll come up if more if needed

8:45 PM
I honestly don't think it should take very long, it's a solved problem, there's a network-wide policy.
We just need to define the lines.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.
In addition to my 4-rules thing which we could start with, Logan has a few good points to add as well.

@MadaraUchiha Can you fix the banner
It's not recruitment chat.

@Mysticial I have a feeling we're going to touch it more than we are going to on list questions
I'll change it to a more general name though

At least include something about list questions.

8:53 PM
Madara Uchiha has added an event to this room's schedule.
Madara Uchiha has removed an event from this room's schedule.
Madara Uchiha has added an event to this room's schedule.
Madara Uchiha has removed an event from this room's schedule.

Hrm, banner was not telling the truth

@Danalog Yeah, we're trying to fix that atm.

ok!

We're starting with defining what types of list questions are allowed/not allowed.

@Mysticial Probably cached

8:56 PM
Then we move on to recruitment.
@MadaraUchiha I don't think it has anything to do with the chat options.

@MadaraUchiha I'm here

Since even I can change the chat events.
It's probably something under mod tools on the main site.

@Mysticial It does, because the site banner says list questions.

It says this for me:
> Visit our Recruitment brainstorming session chat, going on right now.

the thing is that I created a Community event at the main site, so that it appears in the community bulletin
but the event Madara created at the chat room has a different name
which, I think, is not changeable

8:58 PM
So we're still missing Logan and Krazer?

Hello everyone.

Hey @Alenanno

Nope

@Alenanno hey
@Krazer hey

Yo guys. does secret sign

8:59 PM
All the mods are here.

Oh hey @Shog9

Oh cool, Shog is here too.
