It was that one comment to the question *Where can i find a TikZ tutorial, preferably video?* It was a simple
`In command prompt enter the
texdoc tikz
then read document`

@JosephWright Hello, have you seen this tag synonym request?

10:27 AM
Everything is ready for Friday! :)

@PauloCereda oh no, perhaps you got the wrong date and it was last Friday

@DavidCarlisle on no!

yo'
10:47 AM
@PauloCereda We thank you for choosing to fly with TeX Air and we wish you a pleasant flight.

@yo' Can I have biscuits during the flight?

yo'
@PauloCereda you will get a full meal. But as well, you can take biscuits on board with you. You can also take a small empty bottle (like 0.33l) and fill it with water at the toilets once you pass the security check (of course unless there are no toilets after the check).

@yo' ooh what's for meal? :)

yo'
@PauloCereda usually there's a choice. The better airliner you fly, the better meal choice you get :)

@yo' I was expecting David to say roast duck. :P

yo'
10:53 AM
@PauloCereda at 35000 ft? Maybe a frozen duck!

@yo' Quack! :)
Let it go, let it go! Oh no, this song all over again...

yo'
@PauloCereda any ideas, sir? :)

@yo' ooh cool, I like it!
Could you add a slide with Paulo hates ABNT with the fury of a thousand suns just for reference? :)

yo'
@PauloCereda I hope so will the committee :)
@PauloCereda I can wear a tee: A TeX.SX Duck hates ABNT!

@yo' I was hoping the Unicodeland title from @JosephWright would be accepted, but apparently they don't want unusual titles. :(
@yo' ooh <3

yo'
11:02 AM
Ok, submitted :)

11:44 AM
A 1.5GB Mac update. :(

11:54 AM
It would please me greatly to blame the author of xpatch:-) — David Carlisle 2 days ago

90 min to go, for my exam on the seminar. Have a nice time ... this afternoon (or whatever time it is)

asked 8 hours ago, viewed one time. Ghosttown over at community building.
@yo' I sooubt you could be of help, but do you understand that question by a fellow czech? latex-community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=89557#p89557

12:14 PM
@PauloCereda It pleases me even more to note who got the tick in the unicode-math \fam question

@DavidCarlisle ooh :)
@cfr: ooh did I see an arara directive in one of your answers? :)

yo'
@Johannes_B how do you know he's Czech? Maybe @DavidCarlisle could help, he speaks all languages :)

12:30 PM
@yo' Já ano, ale můj portugalština je lepší než můj česky

yo'
@DavidCarlisle this would earn you a nice Failed grade :)

@yo' It looks right to me. It's even got some of those circle things scattered about to give it the real authentic look.

yo'
@DavidCarlisle lol

12:53 PM
Can't believe my Razr is being updated to KitKat. Motorola you crazy devil...
Yay @HarishKumar is here!

yo'
@PauloCereda Isn't Razr a ~2006 thingy?

@yo' There is a new line, but you are correct: Razr started a long time ago (I think flip).
Mine is a Razr i, mid 2012 I guess.
Or 2013.

yo'
ok, because I think my Mommy has got a RAZR6 or something like that, it's a cell phone soon-to-retire, but still working :)

@yo' :)
@yo': mine is this one. ^^

yo'
@PauloCereda that would be smarter than me and I'd feel depressed

cfr
1:00 PM
@PauloCereda Very possibly. I might have copied it in by accident....

@PauloCereda Just right for following this while travelling: bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/89538

@yo' Don't be, my phone is stupid. :)
@cfr Oh.
@DavidCarlisle ooh
@DavidCarlisle: How's your rocket scientist doing? I think he's very happy with the prize. :)

@PauloCereda back at school:-)

@DavidCarlisle oh. :)

@PauloCereda As long as it is not lollipop. My Nexus 7 tablet became OS slow after the update to lollipop. Had to go an by a new and better tablet ;-)

1:08 PM
@daleif ooh. :) I thought of getting a Nexus, but they are not sold in Brazil, I don't know why.

@PauloCereda The nexus was a great tablet, but now shows its age. It was time for something more powerfull. I;ve hardly used my netbook since I bought a tablet.

@daleif Cool. :) Which tablet did you get?

@PauloCereda Hi Paulo. How are you?

@HarishKumar Hi Harish! In a hurry as usual, but fine. :) And you, my friend?

@PauloCereda Samsung galaxy tab 8.4, it is awesome compared to the 2012 nexus 7.

1:23 PM
@daleif Cool! I have a tab2 10.1.
Running Cyanogen. :P

@PauloCereda I've never tried cyanogen. Is it easy to install? I'm tempted to try it on the nexus 7.

@daleif I had no problem installing it. I think the secret is to religiously follow the tutorial available in the site. :) I think the critical part is the bootloader, but after that, everything looks quite easy. I installed from a Linux machine.
@daleif: I think your Nexus will get a nice boost by installing Cyanogen.

@PauloCereda anything is better than running lollipop on that device

@daleif :)
@daleif: I got so close to having TeX Live running on my Wii. It was going to be epic. :)

1:40 PM
@PauloCereda Good. I am fine too :-)

@PauloCereda On a wii?!? But why?

@daleif It was a wacky experiment. :)
@HarishKumar Yay! :) I'm going to Europe for the first time this Friday. :)

2:04 PM
@PauloCereda Very good this time :-). Which country? Italy?

@HarishKumar No, we are keeping him away from Italy, UK, etc

2:27 PM
@DavidCarlisle Ah Ha!. Then he is going to germany, I guess.

@HarishKumar I wish. :) I'll go to Spain. :)
@DavidCarlisle oy

@PauloCereda sorry, I forgot to add Germany to the list

@DavidCarlisle Oh nein! :)
@WillHunting: Hi Jasper!

@PauloCereda Hello Paulo! You always welcome me!
I was reading about dnf and yum, though I won't use Fedora anymore.

cfr
@PauloCereda That is, all my current documents have arara lines, but I don't usually include them in answers.

2:34 PM
I have been using Mate, but maybe I will switch back to Gnome soon when Debian 8 is released this weekend.

@JosephWright \def\foo#1{\showtokens{#1}}\foo{bar} seems fixed but \expandafter\show\csname foo#\endcsname still doubles the # in 2015

cfr
Kile is configured to run arara via a shortcut, though I often use pdflatex directly for examples I use on this site and arara for my own stuff. (Except when I have errors because running pdflatex directly is easier in that case.)

@PauloCereda Casual visit? Or on duty?

@cfr awwww <3
@cfr <3
@HarishKumar Paper presentation.
@WillHunting :)

@PauloCereda wow wow wow, you are spoiled totally ;-)
@PauloCereda Wish you a happy journey.

2:41 PM
@HarishKumar It will be about ducks. :)
@HarishKumar Thank you. :) Sadly I cannot tour, so I won't be able to visit you this time. :(

@DavidCarlisle So some progress then

@JosephWright Q: Who stole the soap?
@JosephWright: The robber ducky! :)
Q: What do you get if you cross a duck with fireworks? A: A firequacker!

@DavidCarlisle Also fixed is
\expandafter\show\csname\endcsname

@cfr: did you like my songbook? :)

@DavidCarlisle We'll need to decide on a policy re. the LuaTeX bugs we normalise out: how long do they stay in

3:25 PM
@JosephWright not long:-)

@DavidCarlisle I'd agree, really: once TL'15 is released I'm minded to remove any redundant normalisation

@JosephWright just caught up on mail, replied..

Hi. Does anyone know of a way to turn a PDF file created by LuaLaTeX into something that appears to be an Acrobat file? The stupid government website that I need to upload a file too claims that my PDF isn't a PDF...

@AlanMunn Really?

3:41 PM
@PauloCereda Yes. I even tried to open the file in Preview and then Export as PDF and it still fails.

@Alan: could you try "repairing" your PDF with GS? Maybe it will help.
Jan 14 at 12:06, by Joseph Wright
@PauloCereda gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dNOPAUSE -dQUIET -dBATCH -sOutputFile=output.pdf input.pdf

@PauloCereda Nope. That didn't work either.

@AlanMunn Ouch. :(

@AlanMunn do you have distiller?

@DavidCarlisle Maybe an old version floating around.

3:46 PM
@AlanMunn I was going to suggest pdf2ps on your file then make the pdf with acrobat distiller then it ought to show as being made by proper software not this newfangled luatex thing

@DavidCarlisle Adobe Acrobat preflight shows no errors. But even saving it from there doesn't seem to make the site I'm uploading to happy.

@AlanMunn Try a different government

@DavidCarlisle :) I wish.

England won the toss and decided to field
West Indies 1st Innings
0 for 0 (1.0 overs)

@DavidCarlisle Is this good?

3:51 PM
@PauloCereda It means the rain stopped, and they (just) started playing

@DavidCarlisle oh.

@yo' -- i snuck a peek. good topic, but you've got a typo: "univesity" instead of "university" in the first sentence. (examples are always good.)

@PauloCereda On the other hand, this is good:
2 for 1 (2.3 overs)

@DavidCarlisle I just tried this too, and no luck.

4:09 PM
@AlanMunn set \pdfminorversion to something less that its default of 5 ?

4:20 PM
@DavidCarlisle I called the help line and they said "Try a different browser", so I used Safari with exactly the same file and it worked. So as I suspected, the problem probably has nothing to do with the file after all.

@AlanMunn ah

4:49 PM
@PauloCereda :-)

Q: How can I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking to write LaTeX math formulas by voice efficiently?

Franck DernoncourtQuestion posted on Quora: http://qr.ae/LuyQd since it's on hold here... I write LaTeX documents by voice using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for speech recognition. It allows me to write much faster than if I had to type on a keyboard (~ 100 WPM vs. 50), I find that voice commands are easier to rem...

I've voted to repoen. I think this is really quite appropriate for the site.

5:35 PM
@AlanMunn voted it open.
@AlanMunn by coincidence I got asked last week about voice input for math documents

5:46 PM
@DavidCarlisle Yes, I'm not surprised. Accessibility issues are underestimated I think by those of us who don't actually require them. I've always admired Ross Moore for his work on this.

6:01 PM
@JosephWright Just out of curiosity, does the system have any prevention for recurring close/reopen battles? If a question has been reopened, does it take more new votes to re-close?
@DavidCarlisle Thanks. It might also be helpful to upvote my and barbara's comments. The default way that comments are displayed will hide them until they get as many votes as some of the 'close' comments.

@SeanAllred in your comments on the above you neglect the possibility of a keyboard not being available

@AlanMunn No: would need mod action

@AlanMunn -- your comment upvoted. (i'm the culprit who suggested on meta that he add the [accessibility] tag.)

@JosephWright I see. Ok. But I think @barbarabeeton 's comment is now visible in the default view which should stave off an new close voters.
@barbarabeeton Yes, that's a good thing for sure.

Hello!! I have to write a report for a subject... Which template would you suggest me to use... I will write it in "www.sharelatex.com" .

6:10 PM
@MaryStar just use standard article unless you need some feature it hasn't got.

@MaryStar Unless you have specific requirements set by your professor, the article class should be fine.

@MaryStar Use article unless you would like to have direct customization features such as with scrartcl ;-)

@MaryStar Since most people are used to narrower margins and an slightly larger font size, you may want to use 11pt as the size and the geometry package to change the margins a bit.
@MaryStar And if you have some requirements that the line spacing be 'double spaced' or similar, you should use the setspace package to do that.

@DavidCarlisle The voice-powered LaTeX authorship question?
@DavidCarlisle When would a keyboard not be available? I know such situations must exist, but I can't think of any.

6:26 PM
@SeanAllred -- an ipad has only an "on-screen" keyboard built in. i've heard that tex has been implemented on an ipad, and it's certainly available on tablets. if the "keyboard" on a tablet is as pathetic as the one on the ipad, that's as good as no keyboard.

@barbarabeeton A very good point.

6:39 PM
@SeanAllred well I was asked this exact same question (voice input for math, latex or mathml or whatever) last week on behalf of someone who is losing the use of her arms)

@DavidCarlisle Oh goodness :( Yeah, @barbarabeeton's point about the ADA is a very good one -- an effort really should be made to this end.

user146722
The LaTeX WYSIWYG. What is it?

To answer that question, I'd like to know how disabled persons practice mathematics at all.

@SelflessPsychopath what is what?

@SelflessPsychopath No such thing. Do you have a reference?

user146722
6:50 PM
@DavidCarlisle What is the definitive graphical editor for LaTeX markup?

@SelflessPsychopath There can't be one -- reasons go into computability theory

user146722
@SeanAllred I am unclear as to what a reference means in this context.

@SelflessPsychopath I was meaning what application you were referring to, but you ended up having asked for suggestions :) don't mind me
@SelflessPsychopath LyX is a popular choice, but it is severely limited in its flexibility.

@SeanAllred in this case as far as I understand it's a highschool student doing a normal course, but contracted some kind of muscle wasting disease and wants to know what her options for further study are if she gets through the end of school exams

user146722
@SeanAllred That's harsh, well how about an entirely satisfactory graphical editor. I am the type of person who prefers to use PowerPoint over any office program.

6:52 PM
@SelflessPsychopath Most people use a text editor

@SelflessPsychopath This is a problem LaTeX3 concepts will be helping.
@SelflessPsychopath Also, we don't curse in this chatroom :)
@SelflessPsychopath If that's the case, then LaTeX may not be for you -- but I encourage you to become the type of person LaTeX is for :)
@SelflessPsychopath If I may ask, why are you looking into LaTeX?

@SelflessPsychopath it's contradictory, if you want a graphical system use powerpoint or word or whatever, the whole point of latex is that it is a markup system where you add markup to the text to control the layout. that rather implies that you see the markup.

user146722
I love the "precision" and "official" qualities to the renderings.

@DavidCarlisle I wouldn't agree with that 'whole point' :) though I do personally see it as a strength

user146722
I think a compromise like Dreamweaver provided would be ideal

6:56 PM
@SelflessPsychopath Dreamweaver wouldn't be a good choice there, if you're going proprietary. InDesign is more appropriate.

user146722
Oh I'd not like to use it. My point was just that it features a split view Markup and WYSIWYG editor.

(Though far inferior in the common cases.)
There are many editors that provide incremental output updates side-by-side with the markup.
They lag slightly, but this can't be avoided (again, reasons go into computability theory)

@DavidCarlisle -- well, raman couldn't see the markup, but managed very well indeed. too bad his readout method never caught on -- but it does depend deeply on care by the mathematician doing the input, and it doesn't even occur to most mathematicians (being kind) that the problem exists. (or being less kind, that they care enough to not litter their files with indecipherable personal commands.)

@SelflessPsychopath Concerning the computability stuff, in layman's terms, Dreamweaver works with XML-based markup. XML is in an entirely different class of languages from TeX -- not just in how it looks, but in what it can do at all.

@barbarabeeton sorry cultural bias replace "see" by "directly control using your normal text interface" (which is aural rendering in TVR's case) He is of course rather exceptionally gifted, which helps.

user146722
7:03 PM
@SeanAllred I understand, I am inferring that LaTeX is turing complete, and subject to fundamental irreducibility?

@SelflessPsychopath Precisely :)

user146722
Well I might have to learn to code in LaTeX lol, but for now LyX finished downloading and feels satisfactory, thanks for the lead

@SelflessPsychopath LaTeX3 is going to make this a little easier to work with in the ideal case (and more importantly, the ideal case is going to be much more reasonable for mere mortals).
@SelflessPsychopath Sure thing :)

@SeanAllred in fairness you might want to mention how long l3 has been under development:-)

@DavidCarlisle -- (it's "tvr", not "tcr", but you've got the right person.) i don't remember what input method he used, and don't remember whether he specified. he certainly used audio output (to amazingly good effect), but keyboard or voice input, not sure. i'll have to go back and read his paper/dissertation.

7:05 PM
@DavidCarlisle @SelflessPsychopath Decades. But we're getting close! Kinda!

@barbarabeeton yep I'd already corrected, but within relative error a of 1 key away it's the same thing. That's all i hope for on left side of keyboard:-)

I get the impression though that a lot of the groundwork has been laid out -- there are just fundamental questions that need answering. Though, I'm beginning to wonder if the idyllic perfection the team is aiming for should be deferred to LaTeX4... To many outsiders, the project appears dead.

@SeanAllred the project maintains latex2e:-)

@DavidCarlisle Maintenance often goes unnoticed :)
Wait, no, that's :( not :). Thank you, LaTeX2e maintainers!!

@SeanAllred well 2015's a big update but the hope is it goes mostly unnoticed, people only notice updates when things go wrong....

7:10 PM
@DavidCarlisle There's a lot of truth in that.
But then again, people notice updates when functionality is introduced as well.

@SeanAllred we once released a version of latex2e where I'd broken \fbox: people noticed that.

@DavidCarlisle Jeez -- how'd you manage that?

@DavidCarlisle -- we're for sure hoping ... fingers firmly crossed. (will be a jump from tex live 2012 to tex live 2015 for the production system.)

user146722
@DavidCarlisle I demand 100% coverage by test cases which check renderings for pixel perfection now!

@SeanAllred can't remember it was 2nd or 3rd release before I'd ported the latex3 test suite over to latex2e and we had the regression tests in place:-)
@SelflessPsychopath we do have a fairly extensive regression test system that aims to check that.

user146722
7:14 PM
@DavidCarlisle That's nice, you know I was just having fun

@SelflessPsychopath Making demands already XD

@SelflessPsychopath but people (like @barbarabeeton) do get very upset if they process a 20 year old document on the current system and they get different pixels. LaTeX is very conservative about change.

user146722
I could imagine

Good maen again

7:36 PM
@PauloCereda Glenn Gould playing BWV 1056! :)

yo'
7:46 PM
@barbarabeeton Ah, damned typos. Should I send a corrected version, or will some good soul correct it in your system? And thanks for the positive feedback :)
@DavidCarlisle Carve in stone.

@egreg I'm familiar with the tune, but who's Glenn Gould?
Someone I should check out?

@SeanAllred OMG!! :)
Glenn Herbert Gould (25 September 1932 – 4 October 1982) was a Canadian pianist who became one of the best-known and most celebrated classical pianists of the 20th century. He was particularly renowned as an interpreter of the keyboard music of Johann Sebastian Bach. His playing was distinguished by remarkable technical proficiency and capacity to articulate the polyphonic texture of Bach's music. After his adolescence, Gould rejected most of the standard Romantic piano literature including Liszt, Schumann, and Chopin. Although his recordings were dominated by Bach, Gould's repertoire was diverse...

@yo' -- i'll ask karl to fix it.

yo'
@barbarabeeton thank you very much. I would do it now, but I'm on a system with no LaTeX :(
@SeanAllred Definitely! youtube.com/watch?v=tOKIHzd7sZM

@yo' -- understand the situation. (last week i was on an island with lots of mosquitos and no latex. but fortunately they had good wifi, so i could keep sort of ahead of the mail.)

yo'
@barbarabeeton I wonder which suffrage was worse...

@yo' Oh!

yo'
@SeanAllred the recording is LQ, but the playing is divine.

@yo' -- well, i'm still covered with bites from the mosquitos and no-see-ums, i've almost caught up on the mail deluge, and i'm back in front of a large screen with a familiar keyboard, so i guess you could say that the (flying) bugs won.

yo'
@barbarabeeton I remember seeing a list of "things that show you worked for Medicins Sand Frontières", one of the items was: You can't fall asleep without a mosquito net, feeling unsafe.

8:01 PM
@yo' -- fortunately, the bugs on the georgia coast don't carry nasty infections, but the bites still itch ... a lot! worse, though, would be if i'd stepped on a rattlesnake, or annoyed a hungry alligator. so i look carefully before sallying off into the swamp.

yo'
@barbarabeeton you speak about Georgia, US, right?

@yo' -- yes, u.s. the one that tom lehrer refers to in the description "he's from georgia and he doesn't speak the language very well."

yo'
@barbarabeeton ok thanks. Well, I would be surprised if you decided to travel to Kavkaz. As well, it's mountains there, not swamps...
btw, my last furniture purchase. Finally my home is a proper place to live:
@barbarabeeton Is there something from with the Georgian accent?

@yo' Is... Is that a stargate!?

yo'
@SeanAllred or course (but that's not a new thing)

8:14 PM
@yo' But it's the important thing. XD

@yo' -- you may not understand the description, but if a young lady (and yes, in the american south, it's still usually "lady" rather than "woman") is speaking with that accent, it's sometimes described as the voice "dripping with magnolias". ask me at the tug meeting -- i can mimic the accent reasonably well.

yo'
@SeanAllred :D

I still need to put up my baby's-first-whiteboard

@SeanAllred -- whatever happened to slate and chalk?!?

@egreg Yay! :)

8:15 PM
@PauloCereda -- got your bag packed yet?

yo'
@barbarabeeton I surely will. I'm interested in recognizing accents in all languages I speak. I can certainly distinguish more than 10 Czech accents and maybe 5 or 6 native English accents (not speaking about non-native ones), and probably 3 French accents.

@barbarabeeton I love a good blackboard, but a good one is very expensive...

@barbarabeeton I did! :) I just need to get me a nice tooth paste. :)

yo'
@yo' @Paulo saw this? :)

@yo' booooooooooooo <3

yo'
8:17 PM
@SeanAllred and not good for carpets. In lecture/classrooms, we have blackboards (with the exception of PC rooms), they are much much much better. And expensive. (But needed to say, this one cost me a fortune. Literally.)

@yo' Paulo is from Brazil and only refers to himself in the third person. It's easier for me, I mean, for him. :P

@yo' The whiteboard costed you a fortune? How expensive can they possibly get?

@yo': I love your pencil sharpener!

yo'
@SeanAllred if I got this one in a standard way, it would have been about €300.

@yo' phew... that's a pretty penny

yo'
8:20 PM
@PauloCereda another must-have. And this one is very robust, also makes very very long pencil tips, which I like :)

@yo' I have one very similar to yours. :)
Oh, Carol, I am but a fool...

Q: Pictures into my Latex Doc when using Overleaf?

CarolHow do I get pictures into my laTeX paper I did on line in Overleaf? It says I need to make a new file? I have the pics in a folder as jpeg but how do I upload them into the paper?

(tried to make a pun with the OP name) :)

yo'
@SeanAllred I got it under €200, but mostly because they made a shipping mistake they didn't want to correct. Also, it's pretty huge: 200 x 120 cm

@PauloCereda 1958 recording

@egreg ooh

yo'
I think that if I ever have children, they'll love the whiteboard, but it'll be difficult to explain them that "this wall you can draw on, the other walls not"

8:25 PM
@yo' I think you need to learn something about the height of the average baby:-)

@yo' That will be an odd distinction for them to make -- it might need obvious and colorful adorning :)

@yo' Like the cat's litter? ;-)

yo'
@egreg quite.
@DavidCarlisle my children will manage, in their hunger for knowledge :)
@SeanAllred well, the whiteboard is shiny, the other walls are not. I'll only have to then worry about my fridge :D

@yo' In my experience with my nieces, the fridge is a lost cause. :)

user146722
Teflon

yo'
8:28 PM
@SeanAllred yeah, but also, you can erase the whiteboard markers from the fridge, not so from the wall paint :)
@SelflessPsychopath what? No, the whiteboard is HQ ceramics :)

@yo' That is so cool!!!

yo'
@SeanAllred I can't but agree :) It's a scout thingy, we've used it for two summer camps, and one friend is borrowing it for a camp this summer.

@SeanAllred also makes the journey between Paris and Prague take no time at all...
4

yo'
@DavidCarlisle one friend said it nicely: It's an extra-terrestrial shower, you only need to dial an underwater gate :)

@DavidCarlisle: A tcolorbox answer by you? What happened? ;-)

8:41 PM
@ChristianHupfer I took @wipet's advice and forsook wrapfig and just stuffed in a \parshape setting:-)

@DavidCarlisle: He's a TeX fundamentalist ;-)

yo'
@ChristianHupfer indeed.

Probably stupid question, but, I have in .def document next line: \DeclareMathSymbol{\gote}{\mathalpha}{GOTm}{"65}
What is GOTm and where can I find it?

@Cortizol That's the internal name of the math symbol font. It should be defined in one of the packages you load with \DeclareSymbolFont{GOTm}...
@Cortizol Probably in the same .def file.

8:58 PM
@yo' I just assumed. The thesis template is full of czech comments.

yo'
9:17 PM
@Johannes_B ah ok, I didn't check so in detail. I may look into it tomorrow

@yo' I doubt you can understand the question.
