5:00 PM
You have been pre-banned, so we're good.

@murgatroid99 Please define moderator responsibilities. Do you mean community moderation or review queue stuff (the stack way to do it)? I have experience with community moderation as I used to be a(n elected) global moderator on a forum and I'm also currently an admin on a Steam group (not my group nor one owned by someone I know IRL) with 8.7k users. I've years of community moderation experience, just because I don't usually use them here doesn't mean that I can't use them here.

@MadMAxJr I think the key flaw in your plan is you can't ban @badp

Oh, @twobugs, do you play Tales of Maj'Eyal?

@badp you just need to sign here with this pen, don't worry about the stinging it's just a little blood. Also ignore the screaming they can't hurt you

Blame @shog9 or something for that

5:00 PM
@Wipqozn Something I can't discuss!

@Sterno oh my. Gotcha.

@Wipqozn I promised myself that I'll not use the withdraw button. So, ask away.

Also I will eliminate hats.

@MadMAxJr MADMAXJR FOR MOD

@ardaozkal The reason I'm pointing that out is you seem upset with the current line of conversation, and I'm just letting you know if you plan to run for mod you're going to need to deal with a lot worse than this, and you'll need to deal with it for few weeks. Even more if you get elected.

5:01 PM
@MadMAxJr good luck with that, I've been rallying against hat dash for years
well
2 years

That counts

I will dethrone hats. And begin a new era. Of /scarves/.

@Wipqozn I'll be calmer when nomination phase ends. Exams also end in 7 days.
aka more sleep yay

@MadMAxJr allyourhatsbelongtome

@MadMAxJr p sure this is already a thing, except it's still called a hat

user15026
5:03 PM
@ardaozkal But the thing is, if you don't use them here, we can't really judge it.

@ardaozkal Okay, just wanted to give you an idea of what you're in for in the coming weeks.

There's been a history of people running for mod, losing, and quitting the site

@ardaozkal Well, the moderator score is a good proxy for that. The things that it measures correspond closely to experience with moderating this community.

@Sterno RIP @Wipqozn

Hmmmm.. I could skip to just quitting the site.

5:04 PM
Also, I am one of those people who can ask uncomfortable questions to nominees. Look at the last election for examples!

@Sterno Didn't you ask the nominees to give you a foot rub in the last election? Pretty sure that was a thing.

Uncomfortable questions. "Which tags do you hate and why is it minecraft mods?"
5

@Unionhawk The true loss is @ronnie

@AshleyNunn I do use them here, but not always.

@MadMAxJr That's easy. All of them.

user15026
5:06 PM
@ardaozkal It was more a general statement than anything - basically trying to say "It's great you do stuff outside of here, but when it comes to these elections, we tend to care exclusively about what you do here."

Yeah.

user15026
@murgatroid99 There will always be a pro much hole in my heart.

Going off a bit to eat, so please stop telling me that I'll get asked bad questions for some while (I nominated myself knowing that).

does Steam group admin give you access to PII? IP addresses? countries? full names and emails? voting information? deleted content?

Grabthak promise to moderate with simple three part plan. 1: Ban all users. 2: Install comfy chair. 3: Enjoy burning remains of site and plan further conquest.

5:08 PM
@badp it doesnt iirc. im an admin for one for my halo clan
though my mod privileges on my halo clan give me access to that anyways

can you handle investigations of sockpuppetry? voting rings? people who will automatically publicly criticize your every action for the simple thing that you have a diamond?

Also "Why are you logging ips for everyone who visits your profile?"

"Are you going to continue your policy of blocking everyone who says anything bad about you, as your profile indicates?"
Man, during the last election, removing @Wipqozn's room ownership was at its height. Good times

I do feel that we must resume the room ownership dance after these next elections

@Sterno Folks were going crazy with it too. They were afraid I was going to get a diamond and the meme would die forever.

5:12 PM
give people a chance to shine or burn in hell
@Wipqozn do you really think that would stop being a thing

user4704
I still don't understand that...situation.

@badp Yeah. I think a lot of people would be too lazy to go to the user access page in order to remove me.

That is true, it is annoying to remove a mod

@JoshPetrie I think it was either @LessPop_MoreFizz or @badp that started. I can't remember which.

It also leads to instant retribution unless you're also a mod

5:13 PM
Then it just took on a life of it's own

user15026
Not going to lie, I am kinda super very much glad it is not a thing anymore?

@JoshPetrie basically by having a set static list or room owners I feel that we are indirectly and possibly improperly endorsing and favouring some regulars as opposed to others
and this is not something that sits well with me

user15026
@badp Which is all well and good until people are just adding/removing because lolz jokes

@Wipqozn I did this to @fredley a few times, and it never ended well for me

user15026
Which is where we ended up

5:14 PM
Yeah, I tend to agree with @AshleyNunn

just because I add and remove because lolz jokes it doesn't mean that we don't keep the positive effects
sure, people certainly took it too far with their lolz and jokes

I can see @badp's point though I'm not sure our ownership shenanigans solved that problem

A huge part of it is if it's not taken at least partially seriously, then it becomes "well maybe you were added as a joke so you shouldn't have this power"

but that doesn't mean that some rotation wouldn't be healthy
@Unionhawk that is absolute horseshit

@badp Yes
I know
That doesn't make it any less of a Thing That Happened

5:15 PM
even if the trigger is some sort of "loljk" I still trusted you with real power

@Unionhawk I think it was the opposite. Am I being deownered for a joke? Was trust lost? What's going on?

user4704
Huh.

user4704
Interesting.

@Sterno That is also a thing
It's kind of weird

user15026
In general, it's supposed to be a measure of trust.

5:16 PM
yes, it's a Thing That Happened One Time And People Should Count It As Only Having Happened Once As A Result Of A Person Who Complains Because That Is Sort Of What He Does And He Kinda Needs To Deal With It If You Know What I Mean

user15026
A narrow skinny mostly not all that useful day to day as long as people aren't being idiots in chat

@badp Fair enough

Yuuki got italics because of the movie things, for example
that doesn't necessarily mean a great deal of trust, but he also didn't give me reason to toggle it either

user15026
So when it becomes rapid ping pong of stuff meant as loljk stuff, it gets confusing, at the very least.

/me looks in

5:18 PM
so yeah we did reach a point where room owners were just adding and removing each other without thought

I think you're right to some extent, but on the other hand... I dunno, it's complicated

and I would remove someone because I meant to remove someone, and the next morning he would be readded
because "lol it must have been a joke what a character"
you know who you are, readders, and I did not appreciate that

@badp No one could tell the difference and you never explained why you were doing it

well there basically is no difference

user15026
That's what I mean, it got to the point that it was literally meaningless and no one knew why people got removed/added anymore at all

5:19 PM
even if I try to tie it into a joke because I don't want it to feel heavy and trigger a whole lot of drama
like "oh no I did something and now I am no longer trusted at all forever"
no I just want to switch around and not have everyone at once be owner because that would also be all sorts of bad
@Sterno see also: discord

user15026
I think discord is a harder case because yeah okay its us but it's not like officially us, so it's hard to hold it to the same rules?

@badp Why?

user15026
Not that I have used it ever - I literally logged in once and then never touched it

Most room owners seem to do almost exactly nothing with that power every day

well that might be part of the problem. maybe we already have too many?
/me does some hand gestures
there have been time when I basically removed all non-mod room owners
and the next morning, bam, back to normal

5:23 PM
@badp hey i haven't abused my discord mod powerz

I wasn't kidding when I said @Dragonrage should be supreme overlord of Discord and if people don't like it they can start their own.

@Sterno i did, it's the officially unofficial one :D

user15026
@badp If this was done in the middle of the loljk period of Bridge ROing, I can kinda see how that got scrambled

I think part of the discord thing that makes it weird is the fact that @GodEmperorDune has irrevocable supreme power by virtue of setting it up

user15026
Mind you I don't really recall a lot of it because I often don't pay attention to who has RO and who doesn't

5:24 PM
Was there any actual abuse of room ownership powers going on that concerned you?

@Unionhawk Technically he can hand it over

Oh can he? I didn't know that was a thing

(other than the removal/readding which everyone was doing)

I actually inherited a Discord server from a friend

@Unionhawk i'll make the arqade mods co-owners when they add that functionality

5:24 PM
Why did I think @Dragonrage was the one who set it up? Okay, I take it back. @GodEmperorDune is supreme overlord.

@Sterno @Unionhawk at some point was by far too move-message-happy
for example

@Sterno i need an emoji for the anime streams of happiness tears

Yeah

@Sterno idk, but i can still be supreme overlord if you want me to

That was a thing

5:25 PM
@Dragonrage You can be supreme overlord of my heart.

@Sterno arent you married? wouldnt that cause problems with Mrs. Sternold?

Now I reserve that power to cleaning out spam posts posted by lazers, except I haven't been awake lately when they've been posted so

@GodEmperorDune Other than the absolute permission of being able to dismantle the server as well as affect the owner's permissions, is there anything else that can't just equally be accomplished by just setting a new role that has basically everything?

@Dragonrage Just don't tell her

@GraceNote i don't think so

5:27 PM
Discord channels seem like a weird thing for people to be fighting over anyway

@GraceNote well we had 10 mods and we couldn't prune that list.
I mean

We totally could

it's GED's server so if he wants to that's his call
but that's an example of a thing that only a proper server owner can do

I think

Uh, non-owner can totally modify permissions

5:28 PM
I'm pretty sure mod has "manage roles" including mod role

There's a specific "Modify permissions" privilege amongst the options
Well, there might be two separate permissions, but there's both the ability to define "What each role can do" and "Who belongs to each role".

Wait really?
Hmm
That doesn't seem right
Unless the new tiered roles system is acting weird

Then you're missing that privilege

There is a simple way to solve this. Just do a feature request for voice chat on SE that can be moderated the same way as this chat

5:29 PM

user4704
I'm pretty sure I like my idea of what you all sound like in my head way better than what you actually sound like.

Hmm, yeah, it is related to ranked roles

@badp That's something that can be fixed

@GraceNote so why can I manage bridger? I think the answer is the same as the picture above

That's what I thought

user4704
5:30 PM
Everybody has action-hero explosions and stuff going on in the background in my head.

user4704
It's way cooler.

@badp i think you can't elevate to your level, just one level down

Sounds like a good reason to create intermediary roles.

but from the discord roadmap, there is some sort of co-owner level permissions coming soon

We could set it up such that arqade mods are on a separate tier yeah

5:31 PM
Question: Do we even need Arcade mods to manage the Discord server?

anyway this is just a callback to the whole discord situation we had

@Unionhawk a separate tier that has the exact same permissions as the one below it?

shrug

@Sterno No

I'm okay with the current setup so long as we agree on how it is run

5:32 PM
But it's an option

@Sterno it was "who has been shown to have a reasonable disposition"

sup homies?

and now we perfectly agree forever on how it is run
so the discussion is moot

'discord situation'

What's the main moderation needed for Discord? Kicking unruly people there to spam channels and cause trouble?

5:32 PM
plz explain the situation? there was lots of rooms? people wanted to see drama and got it?

@Sterno yep

basically nothing really

Yeah basically nothing

@Sterno That, basically

you guise so funny

5:33 PM
it was also "make a lot of mods so that most likely someone will be on to handle it"

the main thing is mostly granting people bridgership

We've literally had 0 need to use any of the moderator power on the Discord server I inherited, for example.

Technically I used mod powers to drag me and @Fluttershy into a separate overwatch room when we didn't get matched with you guys that one time
Though that may be bridger, I dunno

but still the whole lol-situation was an example of a reason why we don't want to have everyone in here a room owner

@Unionhawk It's bridger now

5:33 PM
no matter how lowly you think of it
we don't want everyone to be able to miss with pins and stars
and moving messages etc.

HEY, SOMEBODY HAS TO UNPIN @LessPop_MoreFizz's DRUNKEN PINS
2

@Sterno drunken pins are the reason i come to the bridge

LPMF has pins, he has the Important pins

@badp Make pins great again. build a wall around the bridge and make discord pay for it

Campaign promises built on drunken pins is a platform I can get behind

5:41 PM
Man, I should get all of DEV more often
instead of just the part of DEV relevant to my work
This is taking forever

Q: When does the "First Win of the Day" bonus exp reset?

O-OOne way to gain exp is to play a match and win, and this is referred to as a First Win of the Day Bonus that rewards +1500 exp. What time of the day exactly does this bonus exp reset?

@badp nah, nah, nah, nah, yah. The "nah" parts doesn't mean that I'll use or abuse them if I'm a mod. Only use for those information is finding sockpuppetry and voting rings. Thing is, no one but mods have actually had those powers, so those are questions that should be directed at every nominee, not just me. Also, about the small-scale forum I used to moderate, yes, I had access to PII and we used to do sockpuppetry investigations (we used to do giveaways and ofc sockpuppets were banned)
isn't this visible when you hover on it?

Oh it's taking forever because I'm dumb
And got all of everything
oops

all of everything forever

Yep

5:45 PM
well do consider this
once you're done
you'll be done for all of everything forever

@Sterno ahahaha, I added that back when twob used to mock with my age.

@badp Once I'm done cancelling anyway
It's already gotten most of everything

You are totally free to say anything to me, but mentioning my age is not constructive critism.

But Everything means DEV, QT, UAT, PROD Support, and every project branch
All 25 project environments
Plus every release
So yeeeeah
>_>

all
of everything
forever
I mean you're most of the way done in your migration to git basically

5:49 PM
Nah, now I'm ungetting everything but DEV

user15026
@ardaozkal Well, perhaps you should consider taking it out, if it isn't something you want to remain as part of your public persona

the great thing about git is that it can be your very own little dirty secret

This is also TFS but same concept

@uni my voting ratio is even worse than yours

I don't think there's a bad voting ratio other than maybe 0/x or x/0

5:50 PM
debatable

It kind of depends

@Unionhawk well, lets say mine is further from average than yours
i think its actually the reverse of yours

what about 991/18196

@badp isn't that @frank's voting record?

is it? O:)

5:52 PM
i dunno, just seems like a lot of downvotes

I mean, yes it is

ok mate

and I am not super happy about it

Good lord what

It's been a while since I've been here, how's things been?

5:52 PM
I didn't realize it was actually an order of magnitude and some change
Like, an order of 20

@Texenox an election is happening

Or... more and I can't math?

@GodEmperorDune I noticed.

lol what's wrong with downvoting?
it's x2 isn't it

windows 7 doesn't calculator in the search bar

5:53 PM
Good luck to everyone running as a mod.

oh wait, nope

literally unusable

x20

hmm i only downvote 13% of the time

18196/991 is 18.4

user15026
5:53 PM
I dunno if we should really start policing how other people use votes, though?

close enuf.

Yeah

user15026
That's kinda weird to me

We shouldn't, I agree

@AshleyNunn I'd say we don't.

5:54 PM
@AshleyNunn I mean, no, this is hardly news and we haven't actioned it

i like how some people feast upon this 'drama'
i wonder how much i've voted, clearly not enough

@djsmiley2k is there anything more succulent than fresh drama?

@AshleyNunn the meta comment is pretty good

user15026
@GodEmperorDune cake.

*question

5:54 PM
That's like Activision trying to police how people use likes/dislikes on YouTube

@GodEmperorDune brainz

@AshleyNunn oh yes and those candies

Oh god no my cat has discovered the mouse on the screen for the first time

And we all know how that's going for them :^)

s/activision/google/s

user15026
5:55 PM
@GodEmperorDune Yesssss

There we go, ungotten everything but dev

@djsmiley2k no comment

Now we can work

user15026
I am running out of the nectar ones, and they're still backlogged so I am like oh no I will have to waaaaait

user15026
(although if you're on their mailing list they are super good about sending general updates about the state of things)

A: 2016 Moderator Election Q&A - Question Collection

OakI've noticed some of the candidates have unusual upvote:downvote ratio, for example Unionhawk with less than 2:1. The average upvote:downvote ratio per user in Arqade, for users with reputation > 5k and #votes > 100, is closer to 5:1. Although moderators don't directly affect voting, they do hav...

> Can you justify your upvote:downvote ratio? Do you believe downvotes should be used more, or less, than how they are used now? In what cases do you believe a question should get a downvote but not a close vote? Do you expect that being elected a moderator will affect your voting habits?

Q: What's a typical playtime for one year of Stardew Valley?

djechlinThe game has an in-game clock but playing on PC I've left it paused for as long as a 24 hour (human) day on a couple occasions. A full day (6 am - 2 am) is 20 minutes, plus time spent in menu, plus however much time you manage to sink into arcade games. So given 28 day months that would be 37 ho...

> Although moderators don't directly affect voting, they do have an active voice in meta discussions that can affect voting patterns, and their user profiles present an example for new users.
^why this (voting ratio discussion) is a thing

@ardaozkal I don't see how anything has to be changed about downvotes, really

user4704
@ardaozkal Why is what a thing?

user4704
Oh damn, too slow, nevermind.

5:58 PM
@JoshPetrie oak answered that pretty well, it is right above the message you replied to

@ardaozkal oh i miscalculated, my upvote:downvote is 6.5:1

@ardaozkal Frank isn't running for mod right now, though.

Wow I'm 2:1? That actually kind of surprises me

5 mins ago, by Ashley Nunn
I dunno if we should really start policing how other people use votes, though?

If frank runs for mod bring it up, but I don't think we need to start bringing it up in chat.
