@fredley Idea for a chat userscript: find some way of automatically remove any questions posted by a bot that is flag-deleted on the main site (on the client side, probably)
The only problem is that the event stream API endpoint doesn't contain post deleted events
So it has to be polling, which might get expensive

@Wipqozn heya, your website doesn't work on my phone
@NateKerkhofs sublime text might work

@PrivatePansy I'm looking for a text editor. The problem is that if you got a 2.7 GB file, you also got a swap file of over 2 GB

Ah, okay, not just viewing. Erm, hmmm.

actually, just viewing, yeah
but I don't know exactly where I have to view
so it would have to be viewing with a search functionality
I know around what point I have to search, but Vim crashes

grep then more?
Or maybe chunk the file

7:10 AM
@PrivatePansy how would I do that, chunking?
I got unxutils

Erm, write a small script in your favourite scripting language

A: How to split and combine files?

Molly7244Use HJSplit, it is simply the best. HJSplit is freeware and portable (300 KB), and doesn't have to be installed. There is an older free command-line version of Goetz's File Splitter, you may like this version if you plan on running batch scripts to split lots of files. 7-Zip is another free op...

@NateKerkhofs yeah i would split into a bunch of smaller files, then use something like wingrep.com to search for whatever you are interested in

7:31 AM
@GodEmperorDune I used HJSplit to divide it into 100 MB chunks

@NateKerkhofs i think notepad++ can open something that size without dying

7:51 AM
@GodEmperorDune and you're right in that
I now have another issue though: according to my CLI output, my report should contain 173 issues. However, when generating a human-readable html page from that, I only get 73 issues.
I already logged a ticket with the creator.

Q: More control for map editing in DOOM?

Creative MagicI'm a game-software developer with a lot of experience. When I heard we'll be given snap-map for DOOM I was so happy that I would be able to, basically, make my own campaign. I was imagining something like a Blizzard map editor for Warcraft 3 or StarCraft II. Snap-map is pretty underwhelming: ...

Current status
I don't know how to paste things, the copy paste thing has gone on strike
The Morning Commute Invariability Conjecture: setting your alarm clock 30min early causes you to take 30min longer to get out of bed

Actually, I was just dumb and forgot to add the -- before the flag.
so it just reported instead of generating a HTML report

8:14 AM
@badp How does it always happen?
Is mornings a gas?
2

@badp yes, this, it is the worst
No wait, mornings in general are the worst, this is just a subsection of the worstness

@PrivatePansy hard

@Ronan except waking up later doesn't result in taking less time to wake up
this probably makes mornings a liquid

@badp Well gas isn't infinitely compressible.

@fredley setInterval every minute gather up all of the question IDs on the page from the links posted by users with negative ID, query SE API and check if any of the questions are dead. If they are then hide the element

8:18 AM
morning is infinitely expandable though

nigh incompressible but will happily take the shape of whatever container large enough to fit them

@fredley Only until 12 noon?

Morning is a gas, everything else is just a vacuum

@PrivatePansy sounds like xsrf

@badp JSONP
Does the SE API have the CORS headers?

8:20 AM
@PrivatePansy BADP
@PrivatePansy Pretty sure it does

Q: Support Cross-Origin Resource Sharing

GelatinCurrently, the only way to call the API from javascript is to use JSONP, but this can be cumbersome and has security issues. If the following header was included in all API responses, the API could be called through javascript in most browsers: Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * See this for more ...

Yes it does

A Super Kids branded limo just rolled past me. Has Science Gone Too Far
I don't know what Super Kids is but I'm already feeling dead inside

@badp Because you are not a Super Kid?

@fredley because super kids is a thing that exists to the extent that it was possible for someone to think it's be a good idea to stick its logo on a limo and send it rolling through the heart of Amsterdam

8:35 AM
Apparently it's a dutch tv show. Some kind of talent show for children

@KevinvanderVelden pls

Probably the limo is used in like 1 shot of it

so I am in the 1 shot of it? fml

Possibly, probably not

remember when fuck my life was a cool and relevant website?

8:43 AM
Nope

Remember when @badp was a cool and relevant mod?

I hope noone has family on MS804?
or friends
> Among the passengers were 30 Egyptians, 15 French, two Iraqis, and one each from the UK, Belgium, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Chad, Portugal, Algeria and Canada.
@Arperum Are you safe?

@NateKerkhofs Yes, I'm not going south any time soon :)
I also have no flights planned at all.

8:58 AM
I don't remember anyone mentioning flights recently.

@Ronan A plane crashed over the mediterranean sea tonight, a passenger flight between France and Egypt
130 nautical miles south of Greece

@NateKerkhofs I know, I mean that I don't remember anyone in the bridge saying they were going to be flying anywhere.

@Ronan That's why I asked about family and friends
I doubt anyone who was present on MS804 would be able to say it here on Chat

There are nearly 300.000 robot vacuums in the netherlands, so they commented that that makes them the most common method of automating domestic chores
I would bet that there are more... you know, vacuum cleaners
Or washing machines, or dish washers

9:14 AM
@KevinvanderVelden vacuum cleaners aren't automated.
@KevinvanderVelden and neither are washing machines and dish washers, since they still need to manually configured for laundry

@NateKerkhofs really? Are they not an automated broom and dustbin?

@KevinvanderVelden you still need to get them out of the closet, plug them in and push them around manually

@NateKerkhofs you still need to take the dust out of the robot cleaner, does that not make it automated?

What they're talking about is stuff like Roomba: you just place the charging station, and then the vacuum automatically starts sweeping the room

I know, I have an LG one

9:16 AM
and checks where it should be going automatically

They're talking about automating domestic chores, there's quite a bit that's automated in comparison to going to a stream with a washing board versus a washing machine

@KevinvanderVelden That's just about the only thing that isn't automated, but to be fair, the same applies to brooms and dustbins and manual vacuum cleaners

@NateKerkhofs yes, but you're saying that because the only thing that is automated is the picking up dust it doesn't count as automation

@KevinvanderVelden you misunderstood me
I'm saying that they ARE more automated than normal vacuums

The logical conclusion of that in the future when robot vacuums are as common place as washing machines that they won't count as automated when we have things that automatically clean their bin out
@NateKerkhofs well I agree with you. But that's not what I was objecting to in the quote

9:19 AM
You stated that there are more normal vacuum cleaners, but that doesn't change the fact that robot vacuum cleaners are still the most popular AUTOMATED domestic chore
because normal vacuum cleaners aren't automated

Fine, vacuum cleaners are maybe a bad example
But washing machines and dish washers?

I never said that robot vacuum cleaners aren't automated

Boilers and central heating heating are automated. You no longer need to chop wood and keep a fire going.

@KevinvanderVelden Once those fill themselves automatically, choose the right product automatically, select the program automatically and empty themselves into the right cupboards automatically, you can call them automated

@NateKerkhofs so we're back to this, which you haven't refuted:
2 mins ago, by Kevin van der Velden
The logical conclusion of that in the future when robot vacuums are as common place as washing machines that they won't count as automated when we have things that automatically clean their bin out
Just because you can automate more of a chore doesn't mean you haven't automated the chore
Or if it does then robot vacuum cleaners aren't automated yet

9:22 AM
@KevinvanderVelden Thing is, the chore for a vacuum cleaner is "sweeping the floor", it's not "sweeping the floor and then emptying the dust bin"
because you only empty the dust bin a few times per year
you don't do it every time you vacuum

@NateKerkhofs and the chore for a washing machine is "clean the laundry", not "collect the laundry, clean it, fold it, etc"
@NateKerkhofs you don't have a robot vacuum do you? I sometimes have to do it twice in a single cleaning
Also I have a cyclone vacuum, I do clean it every time because it's easy

Nothing's automated because I still have to work to get money, to pay for electricity.

@KevinvanderVelden yes, but for a vacuum cleaner, neither is "take it out of the closet, plug it in, remove the plug after sweeping and put it back in the closet"
Those are all things that a roomba does itself
@KevinvanderVelden no, I don't have a robocleaner

@NateKerkhofs yes so? Not automating everything != not automating

@NateKerkhofs But it doesn't empty itself or make its own electricity, so it's not automated.

9:25 AM
I was just assuming that they are similar to normal vacuums in that regard

@NateKerkhofs heh they're tiny and most of that volume is motors and battery

@KevinvanderVelden I think we're arguing semantics here

I think about, maybe 5-10% of the volume is the dustbin

@NateKerkhofs ...yes.

compared to a normal push cleaner, robot cleaners are far more automated

9:26 AM
@NateKerkhofs yes, I agree

@NateKerkhofs Yes, but vacuum cleaners are still somewhat automated.

However this conversation started when you objected to me saying that robot vacuum cleaners aren't the most common automation

@KevinvanderVelden I still think it's boilers.

@KevinvanderVelden it depends on your definition of automation and of domestic chore

@NateKerkhofs yes, which is why we're arguing semantics

9:27 AM
@NateKerkhofs Mine is that it does some of the labour itself.
What's yours?

I'd phrase it as "Having a machine do part of a task that was normally done automatically, and have it do it without oversight" but that's details

@Ronan basically devices that reduce your mental and physical workload by making certain decisions independently or making certain actions unnecessary

So why wouldn't a washing machine/dish washer fit in that?

For a vacuum, you still need to push it around and decide where to sweep
@KevinvanderVelden Because you still need to manually decide the right program and put in detergent

@NateKerkhofs You still need to set up a automated vacuum and tell it which room to clean.

9:30 AM
Compare that to a robocleaner that makes automated decisions on where to go

@NateKerkhofs so my robot wouldn't count because it has multiple patterns in which it cleans that you have to manually select?

@Ronan Yes, but that's only a one time task. After you set it up, you can just tell it "when you're done, go hide in the cupboard and recharge"
At least, that's what I understand a robocleaner does

It can, if you have one room you want it to clean

Although @KevinvanderVelden there is an argument that automated needs to be more automated than the norm, so cars aren't automated horses, because horses aren't the norm.

If you have multiple floors or other places it can't go because of height differences you need to move it somewhere else and have it clean there

9:33 AM
@Ronan indeed. washing machines don't automate the laundry, because using washing machines for laundry has become the de facto norm
At least in western cultures

@KevinvanderVelden But equally if you only had a 30cmx20cm area you wanted cleaning then a regular vacuum would be fully automated.

@Ronan I disagree with that, that would mean that in 20 years robot vacuums suddenly don't count as automated anymore

@KevinvanderVelden I guess that's more just the words we use to describe them, rather than acutally how automated they are.

Agreed, we don't think of a washing machine as automation but it in fact is
Because we're humans and that's how humans work

As in if they become normal then they'd be "vacuums" and current vacuums would be "manual vacuums".

9:35 AM
@KevinvanderVelden I would argue that that's actually true. I mean, in 20 years, if noone uses a push vacuum anymore, then the chore has effectively become "set up the robocleaner"

@NateKerkhofs I think you're confusing the method with the goal
The goal being "Get the floor clean", the task being the robotcleaner

Just like these days, the chore isn't anymore "do the dishes", but "fill the dishwasher and configure it"

Q: Minecraft: Create Chicken which doesent lay eggs

tr01I'm working on an special project in Minecraft at the moment and I really need your help. The thing I want to do: spawning by command a chicken which doesnt lay eggs or drop anything else. How to do that? Thanks in advance.

@NateKerkhofs No, the chore is still to get the dishes clean, it just takes less manual work than it did before.

9:37 AM
@KevinvanderVelden The goal is still "get the floor clean", but robotcleaner, manual vacuum, broom/pan and a baby wearing a swiffer costume are all different algorithms to complete that goal

@NateKerkhofs yes and some are more automated than others
Though baby wearing a swiffer costume might be the best of them

@KevinvanderVelden That does require the upkeep on the baby though.

And vacuum is not at the bottom of the automation scale, so it's partially automated.

@Arperum it doesn't have to be your baby

@KevinvanderVelden The question is, what do you count as a chore? do you consider the goal a the chore, or is the algorithm you use the chore

9:39 AM
And they're more numerous than robot vacuums, so they're a more popular automation.

Theoretically you could also lick the floor clean, although I would not advise that to anyone.

I mean, the goal "get the floor clean" can be done both dry and wet, and each method ha different algorithms

@NateKerkhofs I say "do the dishes" and then load them into the dishwasher (and push a few buttons at random)

@Arperum Maybe clean the floor before you do that.

@KevinvanderVelden ah, that means you used a different algorithm for part of the job. for the central task, being "clean the dishes", you don't use a sink and brush, but a dishwasher
but you still have the other parts of the chore, being preparing the dishes and cleaning up
So you automated part of the chore

9:41 AM
@NateKerkhofs Yes!
That's what we've been saying all along.

(This is one of the moments I really want a "User is typing..." thing here)

so in effect, if you don't consider a robocleaner automation of the chore "clean the floor"
because you still need to set it up and clean it afterwards

@Ronan I would still advise against doing that, even on a freshly cleaned floor.

@Arperum Coward!

then you also can't count a dishwasher as automation of "doing the dishes
because you still need to set it up and empty it out

9:43 AM
Yes I can, I have automated most of the manual work

@NateKerkhofs I don't think you've acutally understood anything we've been saying

however, if you count a dishwasher as an automation of "doing the dishes" because you automated part of the task

18 mins ago, by Kevin van der Velden
@NateKerkhofs yes so? Not automating everything != not automating

@Ronan Hey, I've eaten dirt. I know why I suggest against it. and cleaning stuff is also not the most tasty stuff to get in your mouth.

then a robot vacuum is also automation of cleaning the floor

9:44 AM
@NateKerkhofs We've never said it's not.
We've said that the logical conclusion to your argument is that it's not.

and now I indeed understand why you say that dishwashers are probably the more plentiful method of automation compared to robot vacuums
you convinced me

I'd say washing machines are more plentiful =p

I was wrong. On the internet

That's okay, you'e allowed to be

9:45 AM
I was saying that boilers are the most populous automation.

@Ronan curious what domestic chore boilers automate, though

I hadn't even thought of them before you brought them up before @Ronan =p

@NateKerkhofs Heating water.
For washing, cooking, keeping warm.

@Ronan Again, definition of chore

Keeping the room warm

9:46 AM
IMHO, heating water isn't a chore

@NateKerkhofs Go to the 18th century and tell them that keeping the room warm isn't a chore.

Having a warm bath etc
@Ronan go to @Arperum and tell him that =p

because you rarely do it in separation, without doing something else directly afterwards

(IIRC he doesn't have central heating?)

Like, when would you heat water without using it for another task?

9:47 AM
@NateKerkhofs true so instead of that think of having a warm bath

@NateKerkhofs You wouldn't wash dishes if you weren't going to use them to eat.

@Ronan That's not the same. In theory, you could just use disposable utensils
but you can't buy hot water AFAIK

No, but you can get wood, chop it into firewood, burn it in a stove and have hot water

@KevinvanderVelden yes, but still, why are you heating water?

@NateKerkhofs having a warm bath

9:49 AM
To use hot water.
The same way you're cleaning plates to have clean plates.
So you can use it/them elsewhere.

@KevinvanderVelden yes, but boilers don't automate taking a bath

@NateKerkhofs they automate the getting hot water part

@KevinvanderVelden which is not the main goal of taking a bath.

@NateKerkhofs we had this discussion before

@NateKerkhofs Didn't we already convince you that automating part of something is still automation?

9:50 AM
Can you still call it automation if you automate something other than the main core of the task

@NateKerkhofs Well I don't think washing the dishes is the main core of the whole eating task.

@Ronan yeah, but eating isn't a task
not in the "domestic chore" sense

@NateKerkhofs It is in the same way having a hot bath is a task.

I think we're about to have a discussion on what you can view as a domestic chore

@Ronan I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that =p

9:52 AM
just like we just had a discussion on what is automation

@KevinvanderVelden I do, but I also have a fireplace that heats up faster if you keep it supplied with wood after getting the wood to burn.

@KevinvanderVelden I enjoy both, and both have a functional aspect.

> Housekeeping refers to the management of duties and chores involved in the running of a household, such as cleaning, cooking, home maintenance, shopping, laundry and bill pay
I don't consider taking a hot bath part of housekeeping, neither do I consider eating part of housekeeping
Those are fulfillments of basic human needs, being nourishment and hygiene

So if you try to import an SBT project into Intellij, it tries to compile it. If it does not compile for any reason, it will not import the project
wtf

you can also eat or take a bath if you're not part of a household
but you can only do the dishes or clean the floor in relation to a household

9:55 AM
@fredley That's stupid.
@NateKerkhofs Nope. I've cleaned dishes not part of a household.

@Arperum It's beyond stupid

@fredley Indeed.

On a project to upgrade some old Scala apps. This one is so old most of its dependencies don't even exist.
Since Intellij can't locate those dependencies, it won't import the project

@Arperum in what context?

Remove them, and the project won't compile, and it won't import the project

9:57 AM
@fredley put those dependencies in a local repository

@NateKerkhofs UGHGHGHAGHDFGHDFSGHSDFGJKHBJKF

@NateKerkhofs For example when you are at a camping place. It's still after eating.

Shut it down, put everything on fire, have a quick pub-break

But even that is a massive chore, since the way it resolves dependencies is very retentive
@KevinvanderVelden Rapidly approaching this
atm I'm just ignoring Intellij and doing it from the command line like the 3733T HaX0r that I am
This is not ok
Also, the "Help" option is probably supposed to be a link
But it is not
It just says "Help"

@Arperum I would consider that still as part of a household context. The household is the camp site

10:00 AM
pls

@fredley Go scream at the people responsible for intellij (whose name I forgot)

Or are we about to have a discussion on what can be considered a house hold?

@NateKerkhofs No, I have no interest in that.

@Arperum JetBrains

Also, did the chat server go down for any of you a moment ago as well?

10:01 AM
@Ronan Yes.

If the site makes it to beta, it'll just be called chores.stackexchange.com, calling it now.

Right after @fredley started swearing at me

@NateKerkhofs uwotm8

prepares the pitchforks and torches

@fredley talking about this

10:03 AM
@NateKerkhofs This is not swearing, this is a vocalisation of discontent

Q: Is it possible to tell a fleet to ignore targets?

Apparently Google Maps thinks the bus will tunnel through a shopping center

@PrivatePansy no, Google maps just doesn't know what route the bus will take, so it just connects the stops, but not via roads

10:06 AM
Which also means it's time estimate will be very incorrect
Hmmm. And I thought Google was suggesting the world's largest quantum tunneling experiment

@PrivatePansy damnit I was gonna make that joke

@PrivatePansy no, because the time estimate is retrieved from the website of whatever company organizes the bus
Google just periodically checks whether the routes have changed and incorporates that into their search engine

Also if you are going to hype me up by doing a party with "Steve Aokiki", let the song roll for more than 3 seconds.
Rovio Animation Studios needed more experience

I'm curious as to how that Egypt Airways craft crashed.
the weather was clear, so it's either mechanical failure or intentional destruction
especially at that altitude
Or maybe a meteor strike
Mechanical failure seems early, given that the plane was only 13 years old and flying under a reputable airline
Intentional destruction, on the other hand, would mean that some serious mistakes were made at Charles De Gaulle airport. I assume that smuggling a bomb on board would have been very difficult

This movie wasn't any better than pixels. More story than key game elements.

> The plane made “sudden swerves” before it came down, the Greek defence minister has said according to Reuters.
Please not ANOTHER missile strike

probably fixed in most modern distros, although non-patched devices might be affected
