TF2 has been the ideal game for my friends who aren't really comfortable with PC shooters. The fact in the TF2 world the battle rifle was never invented is quite helpful in this case.

Clearly shotguns are the pinnacle of front line combat.

They're not very weak, they just have a TON of spread.

People get furious enough about cash shop cosmetic stuff. And I have serious doubts if it is sustainable for non MOBAs.

@twobugs Not just cosmetics though, I'm okay with microtransactions for convenience so long as the things they are making convenient aren't so ridiculous as to be inaccessible without using microtransactions.

You can, for example, usually buy characters in MOBAs with microtransactions, but you can also gain access with in-game currency earned through simply playing the game.

Yeah, I'm not against microtransactions that are done well. But a sizable portion of gamers view anything microtransaction related as inherently evil

(We just did a server upgrade on all 3 environments, but Prod app was tossing errors getting data from Oracle Spatial on Prod DB)

Fun fact: Dev app pointing at Prod DB got the same spatial errors and Prod app pointing at UAT DB didn't.

So, not sure what went wrong on the Prod DB server, but it's clearly the problem.

@Yuuki True. But at the same time, I don't think this really solves the issue of making free expansions sustainable. It takes a LOT of development time and resources to create new content like that.

@twobugs To me, they're only evil if I can't choose to not have them. Like when you lock levels and game necessary stuff behind microtransactions, that will bug me. If it is just like cosmetic/boost stuff that still lets me play the game, I won't hate you.

I'm not belittling the amount of work that goes into League of Legends, but a new champion or two isn't as much development time as a whole new 3d area, with tons of graphics, spells, voice work, etc.

@AshleyNunn I think MOBAs offer a nice compromise though. Most characters are behind some form of a paywall (both real money and in-game currency), but they offer a selection of characters for free every week.

I mean sometimes I will totally pay for stuff, like the game I am currently working on on my phone is 4 levels free then you pay for level packs, but in my head, I just paid $5 for a game I like, so that's fine.
