erm what are you talking about
my terminal just got bombarded

Did not work for me

python 2

Same

vs. 3?

No I'm on 2

12:10 AM
i'm using 3

Ooh
When you said "python 2" first I thought that's what you meant

@totallyhuman What does inf() do? (I don't know python, but I thought inf was a number literal)

def inf()

>>> def inf():
...     while True:
...         yield '_'

thats a function name

12:11 AM
Oh
Everything becomes crystal clear

Alright, I think I've nearly got LaTeX to SVG down pact...

@ATaco ?

Well converting MathJax to SVG is fairly easy, it's designed for the web.
LaTeX isn't so friendly.

12:34 AM
I did it though! I can now successfully produce SVG from LaTeX.

@ATaco Yay :D
@ATaco :|

It's size parameters are a little off.

> a little off

I'm getting there...

That's an unusually dimensioned page.

12:38 AM
That's because it's trying to render a proper document, and than just passing that (Somewhat Raw) document to an SVG.
So it's pretty sure we want A4.
Even though we definitely do not want A4.

But surely A4 is not several times longer than it is wide?

You're really asking the wrong person about this sort of thing.
I don't care why I care how do I make it not
Well I made the BBox a little better, but this fixed exactly nothing.

Help how do you input matrix in Jelly

Alright, if you refresh you'll see the LaTeX is a lot more modest now.

Question: this function was given as an example of an indifferentiable function
but that isn't a function at all, right?
for x = 0, it has both 1, and -1
is a function differentiable if it is continous for all real numbers?

@Downgoat no it has neither
@Downgoat wait i don't think so
@Downgoat it is a function (see ^^)

@ASCII-only hm ok I see

CMC: go add the [color] tag to the bunch of challenges that need it

@ASCII-only better question: is the set of functions which are continuous for all real numbers subset of all differentiable functions

@HelkaHomba This is not mini

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Christopher1P5: Line editor This task is under consideration as part of the First Periodic Premier Programming Puzzle Push. In the misty years of yore, when fanfold terminals walked the earth, there lived a strange creature. Oddly crippled and yet oddly powerful, the line editor teemed across the programm...

@ASCII-only could stand for chat mega challenge

@Downgoat no

hm I see
^ Question: how do you get that (if someone could link me that would be great)
seem like really simple problem

1:25 AM
are we back to math

sqrt(2)^2=2. 2^4=16. (sqrt(2)^2)^4 = 16. sqrt(2)^(4*2)=16 sqrt(2)^8 = 16
therefore 8th root of 16 is sqrt 2

can you mathjaxify :3
wait I can do that

yes you can
also please cite me on your homework

wait what is . mean

it is a full stop
it means nothing
or you could interpret it as float but floats don't matter in maths
oh damn I got dark contrast mode tnb again

1:35 AM
@Downgoat \sqrt[8]{16}=\sqrt{2}..?

@ATaco 8th root of 16 = sqrt of 2

Simple.

OK... now look for something even simpler.

@ATaco mine was more extensible...
>:I

I went for simple, true, and LaTeX.

1:49 AM
wait, I have a great idea
I can use that buzzby dance for while the game is playing
too bad noone made it yet ;_;

If your math requires LaTeX to markup, it hasn't been simplified enough.

Requires and Can use are two completely different things.

@ATaco 0/10 too complex

still too complex

1:53 AM
@ATaco ?? wtf

While we're in the region of overcomplicating things, CMC: use per partes to integrate $1dx$.

Q: Two CnR with same CnR idea

ChristopherI had the idea to make a CnR where the cops present non-golfed code and the robbers present the golfed version. I found out it was a dupe :( but wanted to know. If you have a CnR challenge and make another with a different task but the same CnR part is it a dupe?

@ATaco That only proves that 16 = 16, which we already knew.

or do we?

I'm fairly certain. ;)

1:56 AM
@Dennis Did you not do highschool algebra

I'm not sure what you mean.

this is how literally all algebra proofs of equality work
unless I missed part of algebra

Starting from the thesis (result you want to prove) and arriving at a tautology only proves that the tautology is true if if thesis is true. This accomplishes absolutely nothing, and if your math teacher taught you to "prove" things this way, you have my permission to hit them with a brick.

user165474
@DestructibleLemon Dennis is a mathematician. I'm fairly certain (and I hope) he's done at least (at very least) university algebra.

@Dennis but the proof is reversible
just read it backwards

2:00 AM
Then do it in reverse.

but then the proof is still entirely valid
if it contains the proof

user165474
how about just do this

user165474
16 ** 1/8 = 16 ** (1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2) = sqrt(sqrt(sqrt(16))) = sqrt(sqrt(4)) = sqrt(2)

@HyperNeutrino Might have come up somewhere before the PhD. ;)

user165474
yes :P

2:02 AM
most of it is proving that sqrt(2)^8 is equal to 16
which is the essence of the proof

user165474
does x ** 1/y == z <=> x == z ** y

(-sqrt(2))^8 is also equal to 16.

@Dennis :O inciting violence
@Dennis ... which makes no difference to the proof

@HyperNeutrino Only when y is odd. Otherwise, you have to take the sign into account.

user165474
Okay. So that doesn't apply here then. Thanks.

2:04 AM
I guess that you rely on the fact that: if and only if zroot(y) = x, then y = x^z

user165474
(sqrt(-2)) ^ 8 is also equal to 16

except when zeroes and stuff

user165474
whoops

user165474
then it does apply here

unless I did something wrong there

2:06 AM
@HyperNeutrino Not sure if we're considering complex numbers.

@HyperNeutrino that is why there is no question mark >_>

user165474

BAH!

user165474
@DestructibleLemon i thought you were just being non grammatically picky

how dare you >_>

user165474
2:08 AM
what did I do

(in case you can't tell, the >_> is intended to mean I actually was and I made it up)

user165474
oh lol

user165474
but still what did I do this time

does anyone really even know what >_> is?

user165474
it's a python code snippet

user165474
2:09 AM
example:

user165474
>>> _=3
>>> 4 >_> 2
<<< True

also do you want to discuss the botdom koth?

user165474
not really, sorry, I'm just kinda hovering around here while being unproductive definitely doing homework

see, this is where the <_< is supposed to be appropriate
> I'm definitely working <_<
for example

user165474
>>> _=3
>>> 2 <_< 4
<<< True

2:11 AM
also did downgoats image getting starred have anything to do with the url being WOOF3

user165474
ah okay

which is out of character
probably
maybe downgoat is actually downdog

user165474
i need to find a challenge where I can name a variable _ and then use >_> or <_< in my code

@DestructibleLemon You're incorgiable. :P
@HyperNeutrino In a REPL, you don't even need a variable.

@Dennis heel!

user165474
2:15 AM
@Dennis is _ already a thing then?

user165474
Can I post a programming contest problem as a challenge with due credit? (2016 contest)

user165474
@Dennis ooo so is _ the last value returned?

Yes.

user165474
oo cool!

2:17 AM
@Dennis -1 whitespace not golfed

@HyperNeutrino That depends on the source's license.

user165474
right

user165474
CC3.0

Great, that's what SE uses too.

user165474
Yay. So how do I use it then; attribute and link?

2:20 AM
That covers the legal part, yes. And since you say the contest is over, I see no problems. Just make the required modifications to fit our format.

user165474
Okay. Thanks :)

user165474
also have you seen your appreciation challenge yet @Dennis

I did. :)

user165474
:)

user165474
what do you think of it?

2:21 AM
But when I found it, all my pet languages were already taken. :/

but you're supposed to outgolf them!!!!11!!!

Believe me, I tried.

@Dennis stop you're ruining the meme

Is anyone here familiar with Intel's Clear Linux?
I put it on my laptop for some reason...

@HyperNeutrino Nice challenge. :) Would have been fun to golf if I had seen it in time.
@DestructibleLemon If only...

2:24 AM

user165474
thanks :) yeah you should use some obscure language :P

user165474
Dennis has not activated his Final Stage yet; once he does, he will answer every question on this site and outgolf everything in existence.

Mush!

@HelkaHomba what?

user165474
I just realized that the Legendary badge has only been awarded to Dennis and Martin so far. I thought there would be more people. Hm.

2:34 AM
150 days is a lot.

user165474
yes

There are only 5 users with an Epic badge so far.

user165474
:o wow

user165474
50 days amirite

Yep.

user165474
2:36 AM
that's a lot

user165474
I just barely got a cap once and I didn't technically even

user165474
I almost capped yesterday but a question upvote came in 2 minutes late >_>

wonder who has the most of a single badge

>_<

it could be nice answer

2:38 AM
@HelkaHomba My money is on Martin, Good Answer.
Yes, Nice Answer.

Huh, I have 472.

just saw that

Makes sense, I've posted more answers.

Q: Better Hex Color Codes for Your Internet

Helka HombaHex triplets such as #ffffff (white) or #3764ef (blueish) are often used to denote RGB colors. They consist of # followed by six hexadecimal digits (0-f), or sometimes three digits where the real color is obtained by doubling each digit. For example, #fff is #ffffff and #1a8 is #11aa88. Sadly, t...

2:42 AM
@DestructibleLemon ^

What OS should I put on my laptop next? NixOS? GoboLinux? FreeBSD? Gentoo? LFS?
WatOS?
Maybe Qubes
Hell, I should try ESXi

Is that a thing now? OS bingeing

Not really... I should make it a thing
But seriously, what OS should I try out?
(Please don't suggest Solus)

Windows 10

Tried it
Bad

2:46 AM
@HelkaHomba oh, so it actually was a weird out of context message

TempleOS

No customization, no package management, no build tools, driver issues
@HelkaHomba HA. I actually need to do work.
I can't do that with no networking
and constant cultish "messages from God"

um, what happened with avocadOS

By "work" I mean work on things, not serious work.
@DestructibleLemon jQueryOS?

2:48 AM
Went the same way as WatOS (abandoned)

BTW, check out WatOS: github.com/WatOS/WatOS

wat is watos

As I've said, I'm currently running Clear Linux. It's fast. It's really fast. The problem is that it's a server oriented thing. so there are very few desktop packages for it.
firefox, thunderbird, hexchat, gnome, gimp, a terminal, a few other things
nothing much else
I miss the AUR already
@DestructibleLemon My OS project. Check it out!

but the readme is too short

2:51 AM
clone it, do make then make then make qemu

I tried to make an os once
for the raspberry pi
but it failed because my computer couldn't read all the partitions on the sd card

@DestructibleLemon Refresh the repo please

so I failed before I started

@DestructibleLemon What OS do you use?

osx
then I also got linux

2:54 AM
OSX -1 :P

Can you try out my OS in a VM thing?
Should be bootable through Grub
You would just have to compile it

@MDXF not windows

@Mendeleev Wat OS is that

@DestructibleLemon Ehh... IMO Mac is worse than Windows with VirtuaWin (TTY switcher), MinGW, Cmder, Git and XAMPP

@Mendeleev I could make a partition on my computer for watos

3:00 AM
@ASCII-only was that supposed to be a joke or a serious question?
@DestructibleLemon It does not have disk drivers yet.

@MDXF u wot m8

It only runs in a VM.

@Mendeleev Does it look serious >_>

@Mendeleev um, wah

It's barely an "OS"

3:01 AM
I don't know os words

Now that you mention it, pls link to the repo on the website

@DestructibleLemon It doesn't have a concept of hard drives

I'm too lazy to type in the URL

@ASCII-only Will do

3:01 AM
@Mendeleev ty

@Mendeleev Windows is practically everything nowadays, it's good to learn how to work with it

@Mendeleev but, how does it not be able to read memory of itself?

...Doesn't even have a concept of virtual memory yet
@DestructibleLemon Word salad
> practically everything
u wot m8

? that doesn't even a reply

@Mendeleev Well, it is... Every public computer, every school/college/university computer, it's preinstalled on every computer...
And on some system's it's actually faster than Ubuntu (*gasp*)

3:03 AM
@MDXF I can use it. I just don't want to.

I think we can all agree windows 10 is demonic though

Like my laptop is somehow incompatible with Ubuntu, it refuses to boot

and thats preinstalled on most computers

If I use windows at all, it's usually Tiny7 or a server version.

3:03 AM
now
I think

@MDXF What is the problem?

@DestructibleLemon 100% accurate
@Mendeleev Loads at the five stupid dots forever

@MDXF What five dots?

the spinny

@Mendeleev The ones upon boot...

3:04 AM
Have you tried removing the splash to see where it stops booting?

@Mendeleev I can't get into the system to remove the splash
It never boots

how does it work on vm but not work by being in a partition

@DestructibleLemon To me?

@DestructibleLemon Grub can load it. It can't see a disk
@MDXF When in the GRUB menu, remove splash from kernel parameters

@Mendeleev Now I feel very stupid
I've developed a Linux bootloader but I didn't think to edit the basic kernel parameters

3:07 AM
@MDXF Don't.

> God said to use a single-voice 8-bit signed MIDI-like sample for sound. God
does not want death screams, perhaps, because God has PTSD or soldiers have
PTSD. (Imagine wounded on battlefields.)

huh.

OK, now I'm starting to suspect (more) that this templeos is satire

ooo we are almost at 24k starred messages on TNB!!!11!!

afaik tnb is biggest room?

@Mendeleev IDK, most active definitely

user165474
@Mendeleev define "biggest"

I should change it to hyper-neutrino.firebaseapp.com sometime

user165474
if I can

user165474
rip I can't

remember that I'll accept anything repo?
there is a maze in there

user165474
I like how almost all of the answers that a mod deleted (more specifcally Doorknob) say "I'm temporarily removing this; if you want, fix it and flag it to be undeleted" and a lot of them are never modified ever again :P

Well, surely you don't see the instances where they do fix their answer and I delete my comment.

user165474
3:34 AM
True.

user165474
So there is no comparison.

user165474
nvm then i'm dumb

user165474
Well actually I could go back and look at the revision history for every single answer in existence...

@HyperNeutrino Actually I don't think you could
Unless you happen to have ~8237 hours of free time...

This is where scripts come in

user165474
3:37 AM
I do though. (not really, I have about -8237 hours of free time)
2

user165474
oh nice. thanks.

@HyperNeutrino Accurate for just about every programmer

user165474
Congrats TNB users! We have officially hit 24000 starred messages!

user165474
@MDXF especially those meant to be doing homework >_>

3:40 AM
@HyperNeutrino Like me right now
No idea why I'm on TNB

24000 isn't that big a milestone.

user165474
ik

user165474
but it was Arnauld's rep at around 7:30 this morning

Well, it's big, not really significant.

user165474
random fun fact

3:43 AM
Now, if it was 1048576, or something...

Is my rep good?
Or should I post more answers?
@Phoenix Are you ready for the UW math competition?
Because I'm not :D

I have been training for the whole year, which is probably way overkill, so yes.

Welp.

It hasn't really been specifically for the olympiad, I just do a lot of that kind of math.

I completely forgot about it and just remembered on Friday when I got the email.
GG I will lose.

3:48 AM
You could do some of the problems from previous years to practice. The idea isn't to find the correct answer, it's to prove that your answer is correct.
Finding the correct answer is trivial in a lot of the problems.
