8:00 PM
I am now visualizing some figurative spirals for my galaxies, can i have some help ?

8:12 PM
@Dennis Can you please pull 05AB1E?

How do you pronounce that? In my head I say it like "oh-SAH-bee."

Like Osabie

lol

Or Osable

translate it to deciaml and utter it as it is

8:14 PM
> deciaml

@AlexA. No official pronunication. Like /0sahbee/, like /yosable/, whatever.

I can't IPA ;-;

decamel

Reminds me of besciamella

DIGIT ZERO DIGIT FIVE LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A LATIN CAPITAL LETTER B DIGIT ONE LATIN CAPITAL LETTER E
3

8:16 PM
@TimmyD ZERO FIVE CAPITAL A CAPITAL B ONE CAPITAL E

@Adnan Pulled.

Thanks :)

PULLE
D

@zyabin101 -1 not Unicode

8:17 PM
=( I didn't do the mod utterance.
@TimmyD eSpeak, with "Speak character names" mode on.

Jeez ... this language ... — TimmyD 7 mins ago
What about it? :P

@flawr Yup, Calgary specifically
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ or in comments on someone else's post on Facebook :)

@Dennis Have you even written a 20-byte program in it?

@flaw i solved ur latest sandboxed challenge in projecteuler some time ago, iirr

8:20 PM
And this is the part where I feel proud of myself for making a challenge that makes Jelly use more than 10 bytes. — DerpfacePython yesterday

@TimmyD or, rather, what's the longest jelly program Dennis has written

@Dennis Well then. Carry on.

Don't you love it when you open a C file and every single function is a macro >.>

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I remember one being longer than 80 bytes, but it might be shorter in modern Jelly.
@mınxomaτ You should read J's source code.

8:24 PM
@Agawa001 Damn project euler, always ideas-ninjaing.

BTW, what do you think J is missing? I.e., what could be added to it to make it better?

> modern Jelly

I mean really mundane functions. Where you literally remove the \, add a void and it works.

I think I'm going to write a J interpreter in node, natively

The language is, what, a few months old at most?

8:25 PM
@Agawa001 I couldn't find it, do you perhaps mean this problem?

how do I repeat a something in J? I have [: ;@:|: (,~ #)~ $ #~, but there must be a built-in or something.

@Cyoce define repeat?
$ is probably what you are looking for

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ 'abc', 3 -> 'abcabcabc'

@flawr no hold on i will use my site:xxx googling trick

What's your favorite golfing language?

8:28 PM
jolf

JavaScript

Jelly, obviously.

And emotinomicon

@Bálint I've said some bad things about JS in the past, but I never called it a golfing language.

@drobilc Osabie

8:29 PM
@Bálint neither of those are golfing languages :p

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ what was wrong with the regular J interpreter

@drobilc English because I have a very poor understanding of golf terminology (apart from "caddy," "tee," etc.) and I wouldn't be able to follow a conversation about it in any other language.
2

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ @Dennis Yeah, I thought it says "What's you favourite language to golf"

8:30 PM

@FryAmTheEggman Yes! Thank you!

@Cyoce ([*#@])$]

@LuisMendo You might want to re-ask now that dennis is here ;)

FryAmTheDennisMendo

@FryAmTheEggman Haha. I'm still digesting your suggestion and quartata's

8:32 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ You have the arguments switched.

@AlexA. Your translator is just outputting gibberish!

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Downgoat finally reflected horizontally last night

@Upgoat OHHHH HAI

@Dennis I like how more people upvoted my comment than your answer. :p

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Hai, upside down dragon

8:33 PM
How do you create a new golfing language BTW?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Also the one I came up with is shorter (*#)~$[ I win

@AlexA. We golf in MAPylly

You simply go trough the characters?

@Bálint You design how you want it to look and act, pick your implementation language, and go to town.

8:34 PM
@Bálint Just like creating any other language. Pick your feel, design your grammar, construct your parser, etc.

@TimmyD Probably because more people can understand your comment than can understand the Jelly code. :P
> Pick your feel
Do what now

Using the other argument scheme (count F string) it's even shorter with (*#)$]. J is cool

@Bálint you can just do that but you can also do it more thoughtfully for better golfing

I meant how do you interpret it?

@Bálint Depends on the language.

8:35 PM
Just the same as any language

In software design, look and feel is a term used in respect of a graphical user interface and comprises aspects of its design, including elements such as colors, shapes, layout, and typefaces (the "look"), as well as the behavior of dynamic elements such as buttons, boxes, and menus (the "feel"). The term can also refer to aspects of a non-graphical user interface (such as a command-line interface), as well as to aspects of an API – mostly to parts of an API that are not related to its functional properties. The term is used in reference to both software and websites. Look and feel applies to other...

I prefer a coarse, sandpaper feel for my languages.

Depends on the language paradigm.
Stack-based are the easiest, I think.

@FryAmTheEggman ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Well, perhaps procedural is easier for some people.

8:36 PM
infix are the golfiest
@El'endiaStarman no

parsing a stack-based language is really easy isn't it?

I can whip up a stack based language in a few minutes

The absolute easiest is to take an existing "normal" language and make single-letter abbreviations for all of the common functions/operators/etc.

procedural require much more thought

Stack based is definitely the easiest. You can just iterate through the program string and translate each character to a stack operation.

8:37 PM

A new ticket that just arrived

> Emails from company sponsored 'Wild At Work' caught in Spam Manager.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Currently adding all of J's forks/hooks/composition things (e.g. @:) to Pretzel.
Very useful for defining functions tacitly and saving bytes.

@Agawa001 Perhaps you might want to add that link as a comment to the challenge.

8:40 PM
@Cyoce :o how does a procedural fork work?
16 mins ago, by Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'Bʀɪᴇɴ
BTW, what do you think J is missing? I.e., what could be added to it to make it better?

@AlexA. though answered in those types of langs usually get -1d a lot

@flawr why ? there is a slight difference anyways

:29954694

@flawr because there is a fixed distance of that arithmetic progression in ur challenge

@Upgoat Idk, I just mean they're the easiest to make

8:46 PM
@Agawa001 No I was referring to the link that I posted!

if(lY >= gridH)
	throw new RangeError(`lower y-bound ${lY} exceeds grid bounds`);
if(lX >= gridW)
	throw new RangeError(`lower x-bound ${lX} exceeds grid bounds`);
if(uY < 0)
	throw new RangeError(`upper y-bound ${uY} exceeds grid bounds`);
if(uX < 0)
	throw new RangeError(`upper x-bound ${uX} exceeds grid bounds`);
Are these good errors?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ it requires designated operators, e.g. y is the unary (monadic) fork operator. yaeio == aeoio, where a is a binary operator, e and i are unary operators, and o is an object

downgoat became upgoat lol, now we must wait the end of times upcoming

@Cyoce oo interesting

@Phaeze lol
that happened to you?

8:56 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ note that in that form, it doesn't save bytes. yFGHa and FGaHa are the same length. But since Pretzel supports currying, you can save bytes on things like function definitions with f←yFGH instead of f←FGaHa

@Cyoce Pretzel? Cheddar? Jelly? PPCG has a predilection for provender.
(Not to mention Curry)

we don't eat enough

And CJam

I don't CJam enough

9:01 PM
@Cyoce

Also Milky Way, TeaScript, Snails, Ostrich, Bubblegum

Isn't there Cinnamon Gum as well?

Yeah but no one cares about it

rektaroni and cheez

@AlexA. jokers are a wrong thing to have in a game of poker

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Accidentally hit "enter" on my phone and couldn't edit in the intended content before the 2 minute edit limit.

@Cyoce :c

9:05 PM
@AlexA. the rektness is too high

@Adnan I believe you mean rektification

@Cyoce Are you implying that it is rectifying to rektify?

@VTCAKAVSMoACE All are deserving of the occasional rekkoning.

@mınxomaτ ...that made me think of The Incredibles...

Bah. The gif is too strong.

@AlexA. Probably didn't help that I tried to sign in with Chrome Canary.

SpaceX Launch Livestream starting!
Also a technical livestream:

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ how do you like my pro MS paint skills?

@HelkaHomba \o/

@AlexA. oh shit

@El'endiaStarman Can you see if I used the word "accuracy" correctly in my most recent sandbox post? @FryAmTheEggman disagrees with my usage and I'm fairly certain I'm correct, but I don't know now.

Since when was I the resident expert on "accuracy"? :P (I'm looking now.)

9:25 PM
@El'endiaStarman Aren't you a maths major? :P

Yeah, but that seems more like an English issue to me. :P

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ ihaichu

In any case, it's certainly correct with regards to colloquial usage.

@HelkaHomba Their timer is not constant. :I
@El'endiaStarman oh

@VTCAKAVSMoACE I think Fry's suggestion is clearer anyway.

9:28 PM
@El'endiaStarman Okie. ;D

@Agawa001 Getting hypnotized o_o

@Agawa001 This crashed my browser. .-.

Watching the SpaceX livestream and a wasp or something just landed on the camera lens.
Less than one minute to liftoff!

Liftoff!

i still cant find the point behind forbidding scores for

How do they follow the rocket so well with a camera? Is it human or computer controlled?

Not sure

9:41 PM
@El'endiaStarman Judging by the slight shake, I'd say it's human with a stand.

Separation.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE It'd probably be hard for a computer to track it perfectly though. I'd presume that camera is extremely zoomed in.

@El'endiaStarman ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fair enough.

Second stage just passed 10,000 mph (16,000 km/h)!
And the first stage is in its entry burn phase.
It's kinda funny to me how they still label it as an "experimental landing" when they've done it, what, three times now?
Here it comes!
And another successful landing!

Unsuccessful video transmission =(

9:48 PM
Yeah. :/
I wonder when this will become so routine that SpaceX stops doing commentary like this. :P

Soon enough.

flair enough

Currently, Life-like CA B3/S01367 has 3 identified naturally-occurring spaceships. They are:
Spaceship xq3_0c03888z15d:
  Cells: 13
  Heat: 15 1/3 (15.333)
  Mod: 3
  Period: 3
  Speed: 1/3 c

Spaceship xq4_270o ("sidewinder"):

  Mod: 26
  Period: 26
  Speed: 1/13 c

How are those cells arranged?

?
For which one?

9:56 PM
Like, what do they look like?

One sec

Wow, the rocket is almost over Africa. O.o

@everyone: What is your favourite mechanical puzzle?

@LegionMammal978 You could just do a code block of os and spaces.

I will do better

10:01 PM
I just want to plop them into VarLife... :P

@flawr I really like the simple puzzle balls
@flawr For Rubik'sy things probably a Mirror Cube since it can be done with eyes closed

@HelkaHomba Huh, I've had three of those! (All but the upper left corner.) Only the bottom left corner was like that though.

@HelkaHomba I like those too, but after solving them a few times (as many puzzles) they can become boring =(

(The first one, a GIF)

@HelkaHomba That's really cool, I never thought about it this way=)

Not sure why it won't animate

@LegionMammal978 Just one frame?

@flawr It's an animated SVG

@NewMainPosts I created and have already added a wiki, I hope that's alright.

@LegionMammal978 Here it says it is a gif.

@flawr No, tried converting it

@flawr Yeah, way cheaper than a textured cube too

@HelkaHomba Well you could easily make one yourself=)

@HelkaHomba With one of those=)

ooh

Or with braille would be cool too.

I actually have an old label maker, but no tape for it :/
but good idea

I should learn braille.

10:11 PM
Thaicom 8 away!

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ How do you invoke V? I keep getting OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory.

python main.py

And to run a program?

Actually that's not entirely true. It's python main.py source.v -f input.txt args
What program are you trying?

This one. I used the hexdump.

10:18 PM
@El'endiaStarman They are already pretty common it seems. The last launch was earlier this month and the next one is June 16 then 3 in July.

I was doing python main.py x.v -f y, but isn't working.

Makes me wonder how many companies are super eager to make and launch satellites.
Like is the limiting factor the number of companies that have things to launch or the number of days with good enough weather?

Oh, that's a neovim error. Just a sec, let me get on my laptop first.

10:23 PM

@VTCAKAVSMoACE keep talkin to a gadget

What do you guys think of the tag ?

@HelkaHomba If you can sit in it and fly it around it isn't a drone anymore, but a plane, right?

@flawr More like a helicopter, but smaller and easier to pilot

@HelkaHomba Aren't helicopters considered planes too?

Though yeah, "drone" is a bit inaccurate since it implies automation

10:31 PM
Volo or Yolocopter? ;)

Also, to those still wondering: Just look at the Spaceships section of catagolue.appspot.com/census/b3s01367/C1

But yeah, something like that is what I mean

@Dennis Did you get an error when you did pip install neovim? It looks to me like trollius isn't installed which happens if python-dev isn't installed when you pip install neovim

@HelkaHomba I somewhere saw a Yolobus.

@HelkaHomba I think housekeeping robot wins pretty easily.

10:32 PM
Oh, this is from Yolo County, CA.

I'm actually not really a fan of the "tiny devices" craze anyways (re small computer). I'd rather have a very basic phone and a more advanced tablet

^^^ Yeah, people would keep crashing their flying cars drones

(which I do)
@LegionMammal978 heh

They would require 2 years of drone flying lessons before letting you fly one (that is, if the authorities wouldn't be stupid with them)

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ python-dev was installed. I tried reinstalling and everything seems to be fine.

10:36 PM
@Dennis Yeah, I figured out the real problem. neovim wasn't in your $PATH. (I'm guessing)

When I removed nvim from my $PATH, I got the exact same error as you.

What do I have to add?

What does which nvim output?

Nothing.

10:38 PM
Did you install neovim? (The program, not the python library)

@flawr oh boy I can't wait to read the comment section on this one

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ No, I did not.

That would do it. Thankfully it's pretty easy on ubuntu. github.com/neovim/neovim/wiki/Installing-Neovim#ubuntu

Do you happen to know what the package is called?

@flawr Oh man one of the comments is comedy gold but it's too long to post here

10:40 PM
@flawr No...?

@HelkaHomba I'd rather have an actual gaming PC than a phone as powerful as a gaming PC.
Which I do. (not a $2K one though)

Hmm, I just remembered that I might have a roomba somewhere in my infinite pile of junk...

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ But you could plug it into your monitor+speakers+mouse+kbd like normal is the idea, just moving it would be much easier

@Dennis There should be a PPA

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ So far, so good. What encoding does V use?

10:42 PM
Latin1
Although I'm thinking about giving a custom encoding since it uses lots of bytes under ASCII 30.
But that's a way's off so don't worry about it.

@AlexA. Psh, on Arch it's in community. :P

Well on Mac it's in Homebrew

Homebrew is awesome.

In Unix and Unix-like operating systems, job control refers to control of jobs by a shell, especially interactively, where a "job" is a shell's representation for a process group. Basic job control features are the suspending, resuming, or terminating of all processes in the job/process group; more advanced features can be performed by sending signals to the job. Job control is of particular interest in Unix due to its multiprocessing, and should be distinguished from job control generally, which is frequently applied to sequential execution (batch processing). == Overview == When using Unix or...

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ FuGgetaboutit
@Upgoat For real? Nano is garbage.

By the way, I've fallen in love with pacman. It's quite possibly the best thing about Arch. :P

I feel like a CS101 student could make something better than nano for homework.

@Doorknob Traitor! I thought you loved apt.

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ nano is not on there I note.... :P

Yeah it is, it's the first one.

@AlexA. pacman eats apt for breakfast.

basically says that everything is better than nano

Cause it's true.

@Doorknob Well Homebrew is being ported to Linux so you should Czech that out.
Homebrew drinks Pacman.

@AlexA. pshhhh

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ BTW, fixed the obfuscated thing (hopefully)

Sorry @Upgoat We're just all over here judging you and your editor choice.

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ Almost. With --safe, I get neovim.api.nvim.NvimError: Vim(source):E484: Can't open file .nvim/safe_mode.vim. Any idea where it's trying to create that file?

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ The latest, I suppose. I did git clone ....

@MarsUltor works now.

Since you're going from master you might have gotten a weird build
You should get a release version

10:51 PM
@Dennis When? I've made a couple of changes since I last brought it up.
Although, it should be working anyway...

Oh, I know what the problem is. V expects me to be in its folder.

Oh, that would make sense.
I see, I'm getting the same problem when I move out of the main folder.
Maybe a system variable to fix it?

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ v.tryitonline.net/…

Woah! That's so awesome! Thanks!

My pleasure.
