I don't think it's as reliable right, at least that's what the project lead told me.
Actually, the place I worked over the summer also said the same thing.

What does the third party use in their library
I would assume it's just normal windows stuff under the hood
If you're ok with sending one key at a time then ignore me

Yeah that's what we thought too, but we figured still safer.

but it seems kinds shitty
You should research for yourself why people are saying it isn't reliable
It may be for a completely unrelated reason in this scenario

> seems kinds shitty
wat now

Well, presumably these scripts take a long time to run anyway, so the time it takes to send them probably won't matter even for larger ones.

3:05 PM
@mınxomaτ Yodle is trying to send input over RDP using C#. He's interfacing with some third party api that only seems to support sending one key at a time.

@Lembik Sure :)

So if it works, I'm fine with it now. Was just wondering if there was a safer way to do the copy/paste method, since that's how the first person did it before me.
(but he didn't consider multiple copies running at once)

"I need to send this information from this computer to that computer. I know, I'll use the clipboard and remote desktop." Now you have two problems. ... That's basically how I'm hearing this.
What's the incentive to not use .NET remoting?
Heck, if you want to be fancy, go for WCF.

@TimmyD I know, ideally I would just install something on the other computer and have them communicate directly, butttttt apparently that's a security concern so we aren't allowed to modify anything on that end.

But exposing the code to the clipboard somehow isn't a security concern? boggle
I mean, what's to prevent someone from injecting whatever (maliciously or accidentally) while this code is running?

3:10 PM
exactly

Well yeah that's what I was worried about with using the clipboard

There's a program I want to run, but I don't know what language it's written in. There's a .m extension, so I guess it is probably MATLAB.

for r=31:37
    g = find(conn (r,1:40) ~= 0);
    if length(g) > 4
        temp = randperm(length(g));
        temp = temp(5:length(g));
        conn(r,g(temp)) = 0;
        conn(g(temp),r) = 0;
    end
end

3:16 PM
@PhiNotPi matlab

@KριτικσιΛίθος What's your name? Kritisi Lithos?

Kritixi Lithos

Something stone?

there is a kappa before the sigma
its supposed to be a name

Hello

3:17 PM
@quintopia Hi

@quintopia 'lo
@TuxCopter totally relevant to the kappa i was talking about

@KριτικσιΛίθος Oh. I thought there was a translation.

its a name, i took the lithos bit from "Harry Potter and the philosophers stone"'s translation to greek where they used lithos for stone

@TuxCopter thanks. My computer recognized it as a Mathematica package, but obviously that did not work.

@Shebang are you still working on this code?
or are you now done :) ?

3:22 PM
Here's a chat challenge: design a quine in a functional language where the final syntax is not yet known. You get an "encode" function that produces the correct syntax of the quoted function which is passed to it, plus all the usual features of functional languages

@KριτικσιΛίθος Bah, everyone's a κριτικ
3

@quintopia Huh

(describe the design using any syntax you lik)

@Lembik If I would stop getting so much to do at work I may change it, but for now it's final yes :P

@KριτικσιΛίθος I hear the Greek translation was a travesty

3:26 PM
@Shebang OK cool
@Shebang it's awesome anyway :)

@quintopia The Greeks are known for their tragedies.

Im not greek, i just like the language
stealth ping?

I was just making a joke about Greek tragedies.

Gosh i miss the days when stealth pinging was still a thing
4

'travesty' != 'tragedy' ... </pedantic>

3:30 PM
<pedantic> just balancing out the tags

@KριτικσιΛίθος if only there were negative stars

People are still upvoting an old answer from a year ago that I'm pretty sure doesn't work anymore :P

My sock got kicked out twice for stealth pinging

Stealth pings were the best... you could, like, ping people and be stealthy about it, and also stealthily ping people, with stealth.

Do we have a challenge about printing the alphabet?

3:32 PM
We have a million of those

just about printing abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

<¯< when an obvious sock enters the room

The owner of my sock account once created a chatroom where we are free to stealth ping whenever we want without consequences

@Sock lol

@KριτικσιΛίθος I can kick it for no reason if that helps. :P

3:34 PM
@TuxCopter Yes

kthx

@Dennis Those 6 hours and 30 seconds of my sock being kicked out were the worst of my life

@KριτικσιΛίθος I got kicked out 7 days

@TuxCopter What for?

Lowering the quality of TNB

3:36 PM
TNB?

The Nineteenth Byte

user image

@TuxCopter How'd you lower TNB's quality? Spam?

@mınxomaτ I've had an idea percolating in my head to do an "output the alphabet" but it's a combination of alphabets so that (e.g.) Jelly doesn't have a one-character built-in.
Is that OK?

Q: We need to talk about Chat

mınxomaτI would start this post with something along the lines of "without naming names", but I think it's time to pinpoint the issues we currently face in chat and take action. This is a follow-up to The state of chat. This post aims to identify specific problems and specific problematic users. Because...

3:40 PM
@TimmyD That's too meta for my tired brain right now.

@TimmyD Jelly doesn't have a one-character built-in for any alphabet.

Huh. TIL. I thought Jelly had a one-char built-in for everything. :p

@TuxCopter Well Done! You came at the top!

:)

Nah, ØA is two characters.

3:44 PM
Gloo has a 1-char builtin ;)

That change in the smiley though...

@Sock ...

wow rude

@Sock That was a real typo
For some reason the good key is one key at the right of where it should have been

@Dennis We spammers should stick together

3:46 PM
You mean in the penalty box?

How about we forget about the last 5-10 minutes?

hi @Dennis

Also, TBH, I'm not sure how I managed to escape being on that Trash list.

Hello!

I still don't understand how jelly handles complex numbers
what magic is doing it?

3:47 PM
@Lembik carefully

:)

Not sure what you mean.

I really want to see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… in Jelly now
but I don't think you can codegolf questions that specific a particular formula

If that's for your fastest code challenge, Jelly is probably going to sit that one out. It's pretty concise, but it's slooow...

@Dennis The formula is probably good for the fastest code but actually I was thinking of it for the codegolf
just because it would be so cool
@Dennis I am sitting on the fastest code challenge until some more time passes so I don't get shouted at again :)

@Lembik I'll see if I can find a reasonably short implementation. O(n!) in the number of rows isn't exactly stellar performance...

@Dennis cool! It's terrible performance (but it should be better than n!) but apparently it is as good as it gets

@Dennis Well if you can implement Ryser at least (which is supposedly slower than the one Lembik mentioned) I believe the complexity is listed as O(n2^n).

the one advantage is it should be easy to parallelise

@flawr I had that exact book! I also had a largish "picture" in a frame that was a wilderness scene with trees, birds, a canyon, water, and the sun. Pretty cool stuff.

@KριτικσιΛίθος I sure don't

@mbomb007 It does, I haven't added it to the readme but it uses a flag (-a) to enter ASCII mode

Oh damn, GitHub throws a Unicorn error for me.
GitHub's DNS is down again.

@El'endiaStarman I didn't even expect this channel to go so in depth, but I was pleasantly surprised. PS: Smells like a challenge=)

Huh for some reason Twitter don't want to load
Is Dyn DDoS'd again?

According to GitHub, DNS is down again, so probably yes.
Though Twitter works for me just fine
@TuxCopter Yep, they've just confirmed: dynstatus.com/incidents/nlr4yrr162t8

Dang

Also, Damn, they already use Anycast. I don't recall any major outage in networks that use this protocol in the past. Maybe 2016 will be the year we realize that we have to fix the Internet.

4:38 PM
> fix the internet

bcp38.info/index.php/Main_Page would be a good start for lazy ISPs.

WTF would anybody want to DDoS anything?

To impress friends or be a jerk

Mostly political (can be personal) motives. Less likely are test-runs for commercial booters.
Very relevant: threatpost.com/…

@PhiNotPi but are they known for their travesties?

@mınxomaτ people shouldn't have to test their systems against DDoS attacks :/

@PhiNotPi How would you use meat to fertilize plants

4:51 PM

@betseg For systems expecting a lot of requests it's good to know the DDoS resistance

Don't expect shower thoughts to make sense.

@PhiNotPi Depend if the molecules of the meat are still in the plant

Is a vegetarian still a vegetarian if s/he eats a carnivorous plant (eg. Venus flytrap)?

Carnivorous plants are not comestible AFAIK

The output isn't super pretty, and you can't see your score until the end, but it should have most of the bugs ironed out already.

@Shebang I even reported your code to nuitka too :)
@Shebang it might turn out to be a great example :)

@TuxCopter I just figured out what that was, lol
@TuxCopter FYI, the 0th index puts the atom before the first entry in the list.
@TuxCopter Also, I edited it so you can see the URLs in the description now. Sorry.

they should've made it IPv8, coulda had a V8.

I think he wants the IPv4 address :p

And I keep getting the specification wrong anyway

At any rate, I'm not sure I can check GH's IP at the moment. It seems to be well and truly down for me

Not down and no unicorns for me, but I can't whois :/

I found 192.30.253.113 on a website that does IP address lookup for websites. Does that work?

@Poke @TimmyD @whoeverelsewasherebefore Turns out I forgot about the most obvious of all solutions: there's a "Load Script" button in the editor window which I can use to load the scripts directly from the client computer... I didn't even think to use it because the original program didn't use it, and I just assumed there was a good reason (apparently it's cause they thought copy/paste was quicker than file IO).
