The only real improvement I see to yours would be to explicitly say that it will reset if you ignore too much. You say you can never do it five times, or that four is sometimes unsafe, but not the consequences of it.

its just anti PPCG at this moment

Maybe, but it could also be that it doesn't explicitly say "what happens", which is the main question. It tells you how long you can avoid it for (bonus), but not the end result (although it could be implied...)

I don't think it's anti ppcg. I think GiantCow just wrote it to where that guy could read it.
Oh wow, I misread the question entirely.
It asks "what happens". I read "how long".

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Ilya_GazmanProgress 100% I am building a download manager and I need to show a progress of all my files been downloaded. For that I created an event mechanism that reports on the progress of each individual file. It sends me the information on how much B, byes been downloaded of file T total. Please help...

@Rainbolt I also got there first, although your answer is Definitely better....

8:47 PM
It seems like chat is a little less... volatile for the moment, so I'm going to take this opportunity to shamelessly plug my sandbox post again.

Newbie question: Why is Martin in italics?

DLC, $10
I dunno, I'm relatively a newb as well

@ace He's a room owner.

ace
@Doorknob I see. Thanks.

8:51 PM
Is Martin officially a mod now? I know he was proposed to be.

No, not yet.

What is the procedure?

If I was my name would be blue ;)

I wish more sites had chat like this
it's like IRC on steroids

New mods during the beta period are fairly rare, so it's not a very official process. It basically involves waiting until some CM gets around to appointing the user as a mod.

8:55 PM
Ah, okay. Neat. This place is awfully friendly (ignoring the past two days) all the time.

Here's my mod application form:
1) Is awesome.
2) Is Phi
3) Not Pi
4) Much 1337

I doubt there are many users in a position to challenge Martin's position, honestly.

How am I to compete with someone who doesn't even sleep?

hey, Martin is good, but he isn't Jon Skeet, that guy is way OP
(anyhow, Martin keeps to the laws of Physics)

Again he edits. This guy doesn't know when to give up. meta.stackexchange.com/posts/252511/revisions

9:09 PM
@Rainbolt Neither do you. :)

I don't even understand that edit.
@VisualMelon what if I joined PPCG only because I realised it was impossible to ever catch up with Jon Skeet on SO? :P

Well, someone has to keep an eye on the outlaws while Skeet looks after the general population

@PhiNotPi You keep saying that, but I actually think I get more than average sleep. :D I'd be really interested how you get that impression. Have you considered that we're in different time zones? ;)

I dunno @MartinBüttner, you're pretty easy to contact, like, all the time.

2-8am UTC will usually be tricky (±3 hours on either side) ... unless someone's impersonating me during those hours...

9:17 PM
now there seemed to be a 200+rep limitation for restarting

Confirmed or just a guess?
Confirmed. I just tried and failed.

I tried somewhere
to clear the 7 day egg to test bot

@MartinBüttner Some folks use /s to indicate sarcasm.

/s obviously.

@MartinBüttner It seems, upon opening this site, I have about 95% chance of finding new content from you. Always something new when I get out of class, or wake up, or about to go to sleep. I can only assume you practice the Uberman sleep schedule.

9:22 PM
Oops, I can't even restart when a restart is forced

@BrainSteel heh, no (a friend of mine actually did that for two or three weeks and said it was pretty amazing). but yes, I do tend to answer at least one challenge a day (and fairly often over breakfast, I think, but I don't have hard data on that :P)

You are clearly a wizard. I cannot write code while eating my cheerios.

that's why I golf in CJam: this way I only have to hit the keyboard about 30 times :P

heh, takes me ages to sort out a sensible C# answer :P
can stare at them for hours, and then suddenly find 20bytes
so I make sure to spend a good amount of time mulling it over before posting

I like Reddit's April Fool's idea. It is a page with a button on it. The goal is to go 1 minute without anybody pressing it.

9:30 PM
in short: yes, I'm hopelessly addicted to this site. no, I don't lose sleep over it. ;)

Yeah, I was just looking at that. You get one press. Forever.
Hahaha, well, as far as addictions go, this one's pretty harmless :)

Code Golf. Not Even Once.

You know, except the urge to remove 3 more bytes at the expense of your midterm grade. Not that I would know anything about that.

well it does eat a lot of time which I could spend doing other things... but at least I'm usually learning a lot here ;)

It does do wonders for the ol' sense of efficiency.

9:48 PM
Would it be too soon if I made a KOTH where raiding was a primary game mechanic?

10:00 PM
No. In fact, the sooner the better. I think people would laugh.

Well, I don't really have an idea for a KOTH.

"Hey look, they molded their shame into a shiny new challenge. What cool cats they are."
Capture the StackEgg?
I have half a controller written. And a player called N00b.

What is that for?
Were you already working on something?

(popped up on the HNQ)

@PhiNotPi I was, yes. It currently outputs frame after frame of this mess. And one of those N00bs has a flag.

10:12 PM
What would the rules be? Would be be pretty similar to StackEgg?
ie a tamagotchi-like game?

@PhiNotPi I was thinking of ow to do a koth StackEgg. One problem is that if raiding is allowed, everyone would do it against everyone else (assuming 1 entry = 1 site). So sites would never grow. But without some form of raiding it seems rather boring.

The main problem is the "raid the site with the most progress" strategy.
Maybe, one bot = one person.

you could limit actions (can only vote on n sites per turn), then it becomes a prisoners' dilemma

And there would be multiple copies of each entry.

feed them dodgy information, add some non-determinism, fun times, add mis-clicks, can't take this too seriously

10:21 PM
How about, each bot can only see the stats for single site and vote on a single site each turn.
But, maybe there could be a chat room for bots to communicate to each other?
Maybe add a large number of NPCs (that are actually part of the controller), which represent "the masses" and follow directions given in chat.

@GiantCowFilms pastebin.com/N5A74eEM The final version of my bot. I don't have enough reps to test it from the beginning to the end, though.

10:37 PM
@PhiNotPi Rules are plain old capture the flag. I probably won't be doing StackEgg, but it was a thought.

10:47 PM
235 days using bot in WorldBuilding (public beta is done in a previous version). Now I gave up improving it.

@Rainbolt Christianity.SE actually did it in 6 days, and rested for 244. — erich 1 min ago
Oh heck he's in here lol. @erich waves

We now have to have 200 reputation to play the game on other sites now :(

@TheBestOne Source?
I can still play on Anime & Manga with 101 rep

Do you think they will ever release the StackEgg inner workings?

Balpha will post the source but not the full game after the game has ended. On github
I can't find the post about it

11:02 PM
@Calvin'sHobbies But you can't restart after it ended
If nobody else with 200+ is playing

@user23013 I started testing your script before you even posted your comment ;)

If it doesn't screw up at the beginning of public beta, I think it at least works as what I intended.

I don't think it does anything if the tab is hidden.

11:18 PM
Did you mean the browser tab, or the stackegg itself?
I only tested in Firefox

browser tab, chrome

11:41 PM
It worked in chromium. Installing chrome...

PhiNotPiCooperative Tamagotchi This is a new twist to the Tamagotchi-style ideas floating around. I also plan on creating a "no rules" version, but the cooprperative version is the more complete idea at the moment. Tamagotchi, more popularly known as StackEgg, is a game in which you nurture the gro...
