12:38 AM
can someone TL;DR rebase vs merge for me?
@NathanOsman I'm working on making it so the app shows a list of logged-in accounts
we're gonna have an amazing log in page for that Hello World text
:D

1:17 AM
@TheWanderer rebase makes everyone unable to pull

what if I'm rebasing when I pull?
ie rebasing the local code?

hm
someone who is more experienced than me with rebase will have to answer that

....

@TheWanderer Wait wait wait wait.
It already does that.

it wat now
it doesn't for me
just shows a login page

1:22 AM
Have you successfully signed into any?

yes

They show up under Settings->Accounts.

yeah I know

Then you tap on "ChatExchange".

but I'm making it easy for people to switch logged in accounts
go pull the project and you'll see what I mean

1:22 AM
We don't even have the code to load an account yet.

mAccountManager.getAccounts()
go see what I did

Reads diffs...

> "Extract error strings to resources"
Okay, I'm fine with that.

that was a while ago

1:24 AM

@AndroidDev In a moment.

@AndroidDev he's gotta find my mistakes first

@TheWanderer Lol

> "UI Tweaks"
Looks good.

things obviously need to be cleaned up

1:27 AM
Yes.
AccountManager.ACCOUNT_ACCESS_TOKEN_TYPE doesn't exist.

it doesn't o_O?

Iz error.
We don't have a token type.

that must be an internal string then...

No, it's a non-existent string, lol.

I have my SDK hacked with internal (hidden) libs

1:28 AM
Le facepalm.

we can replace it with "com.android.AccountManager.ACCOUNT_ACCESS_TOKEN_TYPE"
(the actual value)
@NathanOsman what, I needed it for DPI Changer

new StackExchangeAuth(
            mEmail.getText().toString(),
            mPassword.getText().toString(),
            this,
            getApplicationContext()
    );
Can be:

oh ok

new StackExchangeAuth(
            mEmail.getText().toString(),
            mPassword.getText().toString(),
            this,
            this
    );

I shall do

1:30 AM
Because an Activity is a context.

hey that was you
I think
wait no

You added the fourth parameter.
I originally had three since the error messages weren't localized.
You had to add the fourth so that we could retrieve the localized strings.

right yeah
I am derp, hear me roar

@NathanOsman If you don't like the preview behind, TheWanderer was suggesting a tab layout

No harm done, just pointing out how everything relates together.

1:33 AM
there fixed my derps in a derpy way
gtg for now

Lol

Lemme give this a shot.
Wat.
Why did you turn AccountAuthenticatorActivity into an account list?

O_o

It's not supposed to be an account list. It's supposed to be for authenticating.
Hence its title.
Plz can we put that into a separate activity? Otherwise you will break everything in Settings->Account.
@AndroidDev finally tried the APK. Sorry for the delay.
Looks really good behind the text.
It gets confused when I rotate the phone but overall, great idea.

@NathanOsman Really? I was concerned you wouldn't like it

1:38 AM
No, I really like it.

@NathanOsman Yeah, that's an easy fix

There are two problems with rotation - it cancels the preview and when I re-enable the preview, it is rotated the wrong way.

@NathanOsman Is there a white/grey bar at the bottom for you?

@NathanOsman wat

@TheWanderer That's not what the activity is for.
I was trying to tell you that yesterday.

1:40 AM
I don't remember doing that o_O
Oh I get what you mean
Right it should be a separate selector activity thing

Ideally, it would be a part of the main activity.

Oh?

We should decide if we want to use tabs or a navbar or a drawer, etc.
Maybe we should have planned a bit more before starting.

Drawers are annoying
Lol maybe

@NathanOsman - One thing is I will need to modify ImageCapturer.java a little bit, because you'll notice that currently the live preview freezes when you start the image capture.

1:56 AM
@NathanOsman so should I move the account select stuff to MainActivity?
@NathanOsman I think we should go with TabNav on this one

2:09 AM
i think i'm killing my RPi.

@KazWolfe Why is that?

@AndroidDev I'm trying to install Asterisk and FreePBX on it.
It is a Pi B+

@KazWolfe And that's killing it?

@AndroidDev That is a pretty massive load for even full-featured computers

@KazWolfe Oh I thought you meant your were ESDing it or something

Successfully used debdelta with atom. The download size was 33MB instead of 94MB
substantial reduction!

I would like another rejection. I don't want to extend this post. In good conscience i'd need to give four examples. I don't want to give the false impression it's complete askubuntu.com/review/suggested-edits/716074
Anyway I guess it can get approved and I can rollback
shrug
I (believe I) know all the things we can do with chmod and chown and it is much too long for one post
4 examples for minimal explanation of chown as a real guide and not just an illustrative demo
Please disagree if you disagree

Since it's your post, I think your rejection is final

Oh you are right, I only just woke up
I nearly always reject edits to my own posts :/

I can see the reasoning there

Q: How to destroy a system

hello motoI'm trying to format my drive or corrupt it because I'm getting a new faster one in a couple of days and installing Linux on it,but the 10 deadly commands on google don't work, are there any options that work to have a little fun and erase the file system, close as I got was rm -rf --no-preser...

weird :P

user136984
:D

and the comment he made about "rm not found" means he did it once and stopped it halfway

nice

@ParanoidPanda @Chan-HoSuh @RobotHumans someone asked you not to use a transphobic and misogynistic word and you all piled on to dismiss her concerns about it and tell her it was her problem.
I am really mad reading the transcript
I am furious

8:12 AM
Sorry you don't like the word either. I agreed several times not to use it because it made them unhappy after I aired my side of it.

Have you any idea how pervasive the pattern is of women being told we are imagining things, it's just banter, it's just fun, we are over-reacting, it's our own problem?

@Rinzwind i suppose telling them to use something like paragon or acronis live-cd stuffs is right out

thanks @RobotHumans

@Zanna that was not my part of the conversation

@Zanna yes it is! >:-D

8:18 AM
hmm I think if I was in @Avery's position in that conversation I would leave the room and never come back
multiple people dismissing me and explaining why my emotion and my reality is wrong
bad experience
bad, too damn familiar experience
don't want to keep having that experience
I am shaking with anger right now
@ParanoidPanda please re-examine your actions with empathy
:..(

I thought it was pretty on the level. Crying about not liking a word then pushing the conversation on and on... doesn't seem valid. You'll see that I noted that I stepped out and walked the dog. I don't see a reason to keep harping on it unless we're trying to turn it around in to man shaming or something.
I don't like hearing words like transphobic (because I'm not - and it irritates me that people use it as a carte blanche to require special behiavior) or mysoginstic (because I'm not). But I also don't demand you not use them in casual conversation or brow beat people about it.
That's all I was driving at.

@RobotHumans of course, nobody said you were transphobic or misogynistic, but you used a word with those connotations. Very offensive word imho
@Avery wanted to explain why this word is hurtful so that others would not get hurt by you
intention is not magic. You can cause harm without intent
you are a very nice person and I like you a lot
I know you didn't want to cause harm
but @Avery was trying to do a good helpful thing to stop others being hurt, to stop you from hurting others unintentionally again, and there was a pile-on that dismissed her repeatedly
@Seth I found this ^ because of your comment "are we still going on about this?" on the starwall. I think @Avery probably found that comment dismissive as well. Maybe I am misinterpreting. I am pretty mad right now.
ok I need to go to work. Apologies for the interruption

I was the one that starred that btw, because I tried to drop it, and walked away - and someone kept stirring the pot fwiw.

well Avery left after that
:(
yeah it was not your stirring, I see who that was
and I am very mad with him
anyway, peace out

I accidentally deleted libEGM.so.1, I immediately reinstalled Ubuntu. When the installation is completed I restarted my computer, after boot I cannot find the NVIDIA graphic card driver and even the card itself in settings! How can I fix it without using apt-get install nvidia-375? My graphic card is GTX1060.
Someone here?

Did a quick google search. Looks initially like you're asking how to get a file provided by a package without installing that package?

Cro
that's what I'm talking about
but at the first time I installed ubuntu using the same usb boot stick, why does the second time it doesn't work?

Short answer is noveau should support your video card. I have an answer laying around about switching video drivers somewhere. If you want the proprietary driver to work after a reinstall, it is smarter to reinstall it. Going somewhere to get that file is asking for trouble.
@Cro your problem is changing now. Pick one problem and stick with it, and I'll try and help.

Cro
mmm... lets simplify it into is the problem with video card or something else?

1st, is it an optimus/hybrid video setup?
If yes, I don't touch those, because I haven't ever touched one. There is an open bug relating to that card in a hybrid graphics set up on the RH noveau bugzilla, so probably pervasive.

If not, what did you do differently on the second install. Install grub somewhere else? Have an external monitor or hd plugged in? It's still a lumped question

@Zanna And that is your problem, I not helping you if I comply.

user136984
Anyway, I disagree that the word is bad, and in my country it certainly is not.

user136984
@Zanna I stand by my actions, empathy does not mean the allowance of total control.

what word

user136984
@TheWanderer: Just search the transcript for "sissy".

user136984
People are seriously making too much of a big deal out of nothing.

user136984
12:25 PM
It's ridiculous, I'm not having this conversation any more. @Zanna you know what my stance is from my earlier comments, I have nothing else to say. It's not my problem.

I believe so, but drama queens will be drama queens. I suppose I'm not allowed to use drama or queen either, since they can be used in a derogatory way.

user136984
:D

user136984
@RobotHumans: Really the best thing you can do in these situations is ignore them and carry on using the words. You're actually not helping them by complying because you give the false sense that the problem is not that they are attached to a certain external state, but that it is the problem of that state which must be changed. In life this never helps because you can never truly control anything external to you, so you will never be happy with anything.

user136984
That's actually the Buddhist stance on the matter, though I came to it without knowing that.

I'll go along to get along, but I don't like becoming second class to honor someone else's belief system - if you know what I mean. And I'm done. Dropping it and walking away again.

user136984
12:31 PM
@RobotHumans: That's fine, but with me it will never be so easy. Also, I wonder how many more times you will need to say the last bit... :D

12:42 PM
:..( being vulnerable/upset is not a belief system. And if you don't have a belief (or are not prepared to believe when others tell you) that some people are oppressed on the basis of gender, for example (and can therefore be harmed by things that relate to that oppression), then I guess we have problems that can't be resolved by a conversation in a public chat room, at least, not one I want to be in.

user136984
@Zanna: So you want me to be oppressed for no reason by these people instead then? Always saying that the problem is in the outside world will never help you, external things cannot be controlled, so if your attachment to these external states causes you to be sad then that is only you who is at fault.

user136984
So if your happiness depends on me being in a certain way, then you will always be unhappy because I, like most external things, are impermanent and not fully controllable.

user136984
But if you realise that it is your attachment that causes your suffering rather than the external state in itself, then you can solve that within yourself and not be unhappy. If I comply with your control then I am not helping you because maybe I will do as you say, but many others will not so you will never truly find happiness.

If you guys want to go back and forth, I can respect it... but it maybe belongs not in main

user136984
Anyway, I need to eat lunch now, but seriously it's a problem of your attachment to the external state, not the external state in itself because if you lost or changed the attachment it would solve your problem, the external state will never truly ever be controllable by you.

1:22 PM
If only you'd been around to tell those stupid civil rights and woman suffrage activists, etc, to just get over it...

stop

If you guys want to go back and forth, I can respect it... but it maybe belongs not in main second time

So I have a problem - I need to extract the first file from every cbz archive in a folder.
Thing is, there are 75 such files, and I don't want to do it for each one of them.

user136984
@Zanna: You should note that you don't have to be attached and have your happiness depend on something to change something for the better. Also, anger never helps, it just creates more of it in others and they will never listen to you, it's the natural reaction which we have evolved with for protection against those who try to dominate. Anyway, I really am done with this conversation, you will find endless words to use against me, and I will find endless reasons for what I say.

user136984
So there is not point in further discussion. But know this, I really do not mean anything negative towards you, nor women, nor anybody. Honestly, I believe that I am actually helping you, although it will be very hard for you and you will probably never agree with me at least in this life time.

user136984
1:31 PM
You will now tell me that I am mistaken and a bad and mislead person etc, so there is no point in continuing this discussion, I know yours stance, and you think you know mine. There is nothing more that this discussion can do.

user136984
END OF DISCUSSION

How do I begin to write a batch command that would extract the first file from every archive in a certain folder?

Untested, but it's on stackoverflow and not downvoted:
unrar e test.rar "$(unrar vb test.rar | sed -n 1p)"
refs:
reason to believe that blob should work

I could batch rename cbz to zip if it'd help (I already crawled this site for it :D)

It's sort of niche. zip would be similar. swap some commands and switches

1:35 PM
@ParanoidPanda I made this picture for ending discussions:

Nice. Mine would read more like "Do you know what happened to izx? No? Neither does anyone else. Remember that."

1:37 PM
We also use tacos to indicate a change of subject
@RobotHumans The problem is that I only need the first file in the archive.

@Gallifreyan The first file bit is that sed line
basically it's saying "hey, give me the list, get the first one, and use that as an extract specific file argument"
nice doom taco btw
o/ @jokerdino

user136984
This might just be me, but I find this really nice, it brings me back to the path if I ever have strode away from it:

hello

@Gallifreyan seems like a great question for the site

2:06 PM
@Zanna I'll go post it then.

@Gallifreyan :D

"How does one extract the first file from all the .cbz archives in a given folder?" - what do I tag it with?

what's a cbz archive? can you make it with ? or ?

It's essentially a zip archive with a fancy name. I can rename it, but 7zip can handle it like this as well.

@Avery I am sorry for what happened yesterday.

2:12 PM
@Zanna cbz is a comic book format AFAIK.

I know you didn't want people to apologize but it's only right I should say so as a moderator of this site and chat room. :/

A comic book archive or comic book reader file (also called sequential image file) is a type of archive file for the purpose of sequential viewing of images, commonly for comic books. The idea was made popular by the CDisplay sequential image viewer; since then, many viewers for different platforms have been created. == Design == Comic book archive files mainly consist of a series of image files, typically PNG (lossless compression) or JPEG (lossy compression) files, stored as a single archive file. Occasionally GIF, BMP, and TIFF files are seen. Folders may be used to group images. The file name...

@jokerdino <3

@jokerdino If there is anyone who needs to apologize, it's not you. Please do not beat yourself over it. However, thanks for taking the initiative to do so.

Hello everybody ! :)

2:20 PM
@NathanOsman I think tabs will work really well. We can add them dynamically, set icons, scroll the view

Q: How does one batch-extract the first file from every archive in a given folder using 7zip?

GallifreyanI have a collection of comic books that I store on my computer, mostly in .cbz format (which is just a ZIP archive, but with a fancy name). Recently, I decided to make a collage of the covers of a specific comic series, for which I'd need the first file in the comic book archive. Here's the brea...

@Gallifreyan +1
I hope it is possible haha
idek how to make such archives to test...

Just make a zip archive? They're really the same and freely interchangeable.

2:51 PM
I can't find any commands to only extract one file... wow I know nothing
I will keep trying later :)
need to do another thing

Meanwhile, I'll write a question asking for a script to resize all those images to a given width while preserving aspect ratio, and to make the all to a collage using convert.

If you want to use 7zip instead of unrar even though the unrar solution already exists, you could use sourceforge.net/p/sevenzip/discussion/45798/thread/58215aed/… that thread as a starting point.
I am getting increasingly curious about the real world use case here though...

@RobotHumans Too techy :D Plus al the files in the archive are image files.
@RobotHumans Read the question :D

nice use case :)

I'm reading "I want" not why. That's why I said curious

2:58 PM
@Zanna Looks like it needs another rollback.

I don't do edit wars
we were working on that in cleanup. One of us upvoted it, but since then it got a downvote
I didn't like that answer much

@Gallifreyan Like if you said "I'm making a website with the covers for comic books... So, I need to extract the first image, because the first file in the archive is always the cover. And I can't use unrar because of licensing restriction, and I need it resized because I don't want to do any of this myself. Just do this job task for me" like I got unsettled about during that one app showdown and stopped participating.
Did give you the tools though.
So, it seems like painting a problem in to a corner sort of instead of just saying "This is why I need to do this" and why I asked outright.

@RobotHumans It's for personal use only - I'm just a student, so no projects or anything :) unrar would've worked, but apparently it can't handle CBZ (I tried). Sorry if it feels like it's "do my work for me" (it is, sort of) - I don't know enough of command line tools to make it work (e.g. I know I can replace the name of a file with a wildcard to make it work for all files, but that's it).

isn't a cbz just a zip file?
so the unzip command would work

yep

3:13 PM
there's a rar based comic book file too...

and cbr is just a rar file

I was supposing that since unrar was my kneejerk response and it supports both that it was writing the question in to a corner instead of using helpful comments to solve.
like generating work.
