@AndroidDev Lol, I probably should write a meta post about it . . . Really there's no deep reason, other than it started with me - I suggested as a joke that I should copy Jacob Vlijm and change my icon to solid color. Then I posted a straw poll and people voted for solid blue, so I did that. Several hours later, Nathan , Zachare, and couple others also changed their picture, just for the heck of it and for fun.
A monospaced font, also called a fixed-pitch, fixed-width, or non-proportional font, is a font whose letters and characters each occupy the same amount of horizontal space. This contrasts with variable-width fonts, where the letters and spacings have different widths. For example, the two high-use letters "I" and "E" do not need the same footprint. Both letters differ in center-to-next-letter edge (and center-to-center) spacing distance needs (margins) in variable width fonts. The variable that changes is offset from what would otherwise be monospaced centering. In a modern proportional font, every...
What dependency between font-size and width of char in monospace font? In my web-application I use "courier new" font. I want to know, what realy length in pixels of string? If I know css font-size property, how can it help me to know really length of string? Thanks
What is the aspect ratio of a mono font that's made for terminal use, or more specifically, the size of the cell that any single character would fill?
I've read that a standard terminal is 80x24 columns by rows, and that the standard terminal screen is 4:3.
So, considering that information:

@Zacharee1 nothing . . .that's the whole point . . . I was just having a frustration moment over my electromagnetic fields class, because i am so behind there, and we have exam next week
also , behind in pretty much everything else.
Term paper for east-asian history is due on april 27th i think . . . and I'm behind in Verilog, I'm still barely finishing the lab 3, when people are finishing lab 4 already
Wheeeeee, my code actually seems to be compiling properly, no errors. Hopefully I've defined all expressions properly, because I've no board and no way to test this except via simulation
Ive been ubuntu user since 13.10 version to now Im using 16.10 and now it seams adminstration is looked I cant install any kind of application third party or other kinds. I had tried it on root decision and unroot decision
A few days ago I closed the question
"Ubuntu-SDK-Ide 4.10 (Zesty zapus) “No storage pool found” [closed]
When trying to create a new kit, i receive the following error message "error: No storage pool found. Please create a new storage pool. ---Task exited with errors, please check the output---"...
I need to replace windows 10 with ubunto (Not a dual boot ! )and I would not lose D: partition , (windows is installed on C: partition)
how to do that ?
Welcome to the site. First of all, it is spelled UBUNTU ,not ubunto. Please adhere to proper spelling rules, which will save you much frustration searching online for information. — Serg24 secs ago
I really wanted to add " . . .and save whole lot of aggravation to the regular users"
@ThomasWard bunch of people have been asking me why all of a sudden users changed their avatars to solid colors, so i was just thinking maybe instead of repeating myself every time, there should be a post
I'm running NVIDIA Optimus on a laptop (960M with Intel graphics), but my system occasionally will display like this:
This seems to happen most often after a relatively long sleep, but can usually be resolved with something like unity --reload or similar. This issue has been known to appear on...
CWs tend to allow the community as a whole to shape and mold the answer to a degree of freedom not really present with regular questions. Plus, then we get rid of the whole "it's my question" thing.
I (personally) am a fan of having widespread canonical questions (especially those frequently asked) being owned by the community instead of a single person.
@AndroidDev if you flag it you can say I agree with you, or i can flag it too, but i'm too sleepy to write a special flag
@KazWolfe yes exactly, but views and votes also make a question good, in the eyes of search engines, I believe. And @AndroidDev is here. He can edit his question to be the best possible
So here's what I would do, had I mod powers. Make the highest-viewed question community-wiki, and merge in the major other questions. Then, dupe everything over to our new masterpost.
Then, we can worry about surgically removing bits and pieces from all the merged questions to make a single awesome post that covers pretty much everybody's use case, and is the best question we can write, with the broadest possible terminology in order to generate unique hits on Google.
Benefit is nobody owns it, and it's the community's to maintain.
@AndroidDev If you want a Q&A merged with yours just flag it for the mods to look at. Although Seth has personally done it when in the room the last time I broached the subject he just said flag it and which mod is first will deal with it.
There won't be an accepted answer to this until such time as NVIDIA releases a bugfix.
All that we can do is offer workarounds and patches until such time as a solution is reached by NVIDIA.
@Zanna Maintaining an owned question has a different set of rules. In short, as you're aware, you need to keep with OP's intentions and OP's original question. You can't splice your own information or your own further examples into it, really. Well, you can, but it'll get rejected or reverted pretty fast.
(for example, if you saw an edit adding "this also affects driver 123.45", you'd reject it as an attempt to reply, right? Same thing. CW posts allow more flexibility inasmuch as the scope can be changed far more freely)
Either way, Henry's question is the oldest, has the most views, and likely has the best SEO out of any of the merge candidates. So, we should merge into that one.
We can drop the second if people have very strong (and valid) objections beyond "I don't like CW", but we should push the right question (which, as @Zanna and @AndroidDev have made painfully clear is the one with the most views)
Since we're shaking things up in US politics, I say next election cycle we go Linus for president. That whole not a US citizen thing is not a problem. I mean the birth certificate problem has been solved before, and we finally got a non-politician elected once.
@Zanna Ok, so I wanted to talk about the situation with this question: http://askubuntu.com/questions/896529/colored-borders-around-windows-after-update
there. the tldr is deciding on a merge candidate to propose to mods.
@Zanna That can be considered an unfair metric. Up until recently, these questions flew more-or-less under the radar.
Nobody cared. Now that there's suddenly a whole lot more attention, the questions that were at the forefront when it happened (namely, Ivan's/Android Dev's) got a massive vote boost for being at the right place at the right time.
Views are organic, and represent exactly how many people have seen the question. As we know, most people don't vote very much.
Personally, I like votes as the target to dupe towards if you merge or delete the answers, so it magically redirects and the higher view one redirects to the more "useful" voted one.
@RobotHumans when your workplace says "Figure out why everything's broken" and you have to rewrite the entire structure of a production-critical script just to be able to find errors and properly handle and log things, AND convert all Python str type strings into Unicode strings just to PROVE that it works... yeah, well.. blah.
@ThomasWard On my first day I just fixed 3 things that made unit tests fail and have to be run with human intervention one at a time every time there's a migration from dev to staging and staging to live. And on staging to live, nobody goes home until all the tests work
