@Seth yeah, there's one guy in geology major, i smoke with him occasionally. He's like in his 40s, but he basically overloads himself with classes, like 12-16 credits every semester, and aside from looking crazy and stressed already, he also has all that load.

This semester I'm on 9 credits, but I've got 30 hours of work in the labs per week. Tomorrow will have to wake up at like 5 - 5:30 to get to work at 7:30

Does that reflect a difference in the answers? In both, the package list is a text file which happens to be editable, right?

Both questions seems to have some answers that use dpkg --get-selections and others that don't.

it's fine for full backup-restore. it's not so great for migrating to a newer version or otherwise different system

@Bob I was talking about clean installations, where dpkg --get-selections won't help much ... I suggested @MadaraUchiha to just install the programs he needs ... :)

I was under the impression that they wanted to restore the exact same packages that were originally installed.
