12:00 AM
@EliahKagan does this clear things up askubuntu.com/questions/53688/…

I think Ctrl+C as exit shrugs

@terdon yes that one is funny :))

@terdon I almost messaged him on twitter about it.
because that's just sad.

@Seth I'm thinking he was drunk.

12:03 AM
@William No, I must be missing something. That's just the same question I linked earlier. My impression is that you didn't need the second part of the question -- that, when you issue Ctrl+C in a Terminal, you don't ever want it to send SIGINT, you always want it to copy to clipboard (or do nothing if there isn't anything selected). So, if I understood correctly, then that's what the accepted answer there shows how to do.

@terdon we'll go with that.

@EliahKagan yes the accepted answer helps

how would jeff of all people post a forum-style post as an answer?

i'm sorry didn't realize you linked the question

Oh. Well let me actually check then to make sure I didn't accidentally link the wrong one or something. (Yeah, I did link to that one. No problem though.)
So, does that not fully do what you want? Or is that your answer?

12:06 AM
that does what I want
this answer doesn't though askubuntu.com/questions/169054/…

@William You could self-answer your question on Super User then.
@William Do you think that the OP's goal there could be achieved the same way? I'm not sure, I won't have a chance to actually test with GNOME Terminal until later.

@EliahKagan I think I am just going to delete the original question

@KazWolfe What's a "forum-style post as an answer"? I'm getting a bad feeling now on the answer I posted last night on your question "changing other people's code" that got 3 down votes. Should I delete it????

I already deleted it actually

Oh ok.

12:08 AM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix "forum-style post as an answer" is a comment or other similar post as an answer. a non-answer so to speak.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix And it's meta. Meta just hates everyone.

another question

Doesn't affect your rep.

how do i disable the scroll page down effect

@KazWolfe But my answer to your question was 3 sentences which would fit in a comment :(

@WinEunuuchs2Unix but, it was an answer.

12:09 AM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Well votes on meta answers typically express agreement or disagreement. I haven't checked back recently to see what's happening on that meta question, but I don't know of any reason you should delete it, and in general you should definitely not delete based on downvotes on meta.

@KazWolfe Ok then... Thanks... Paranoid Panda must be rubbing off on me :p
@EliahKagan I know Terdon didn't like it...:D

oh yeah, that reminds me. i need to write better meta questions. don't have a positive question record over there :/

Gotta go, bbl.

I thought Kaz had a good question and I enjoy the discussion on topics like that. There is no right or wrong when it comes to opinions like some were.

does anyone know what I am talking about if you press PgDn it scrolls down the page slowly instead of doing it instanly

12:12 AM
That is a feature I thought???

not one i want
"enhancement"

I like it
Are we talking google chrome?

all apps for the most part but yes googl ecrhome

Yeah I like the scrolling effect in goggle chrome with page up and down. If I wanted to jump I used the scroll wheel on my mx pro mouse.
it has a built in fly wheel.
brb...dryer

Q: Why do repcap badges exist on Meta? How did people get them?

Kaz WolfeSo, I was looking at my (rather depressing) meta profile badge to-do list when I noticed something interesting: The repcap badges are present! Upon digging a bit further into this, I noticed that people have somehow gotten the Mortarboard badge. Now this is getting strange and is confusing me....

12:21 AM
^^^ First the hats, then come the badges :D

@Seth Adam Young also has a few instrumental pieces

yes. yes he does.
He writes scores too.

that's what I meant :p

....
ok

GPM has his Sky Sailing and film score music

12:30 AM
so i'm going to start a linux distro called Zucchini who wants in

god my meta profile is depressing.

@KazWolfe how so

@ThomasWard up/downvote ratios on my posts

empty, like your soul @ThomasWard

sheer amount of closed/low-score questions

12:31 AM
hehe

lack of any votes, edits, or anything of the like.

senses lasers from space

hue

hue is a color tint no?

hue is pronounced hweh in this context
it's a derpy laugh: huehuehue
knowyourmeme.com

12:33 AM
@Zacharee1 Not so empty actually... *raises arms, and evil flames arise on the outside of the room*

I'm watching a movie from 1985 "Turk 182", it's amazing what you can find on the internet when you want it. Cable TV should be dead.

@ThomasWard EEEEEEEE

BEHOLD, THE POWER KEPT INSIDE ME, FOR EVIL EXISTS TO BURN ALL THINGS AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix it should

no, but seriously

12:33 AM
if I'm getting three minutes of ads every 5 minutes anyway, I want my content to be free
@ThomasWard is the chat room on fire again?

It's incredible you have to pay 60 bucks a month for cable and still have to watch ads.

@Zacharee1 only on the first inch from the edge of the room inward on all sides.
:P

wut
that took too long
gonna just say fire so I can find it again more easily

That's a neat effect zach

12:37 AM
@ThomasWard you can has teach us peasants?
@Zacharee1 what's funny?

we can afford to pay peanuts too

@WinEunuuchs2Unix made it on Nov 22, 2015
@KazWolfe idk

@Zacharee1 You create a picture with transparent background and merge it?

I found a transparent fire PNG and just stretched it

i'm not much of a photoshop guy...never used it...haha

12:39 AM
in GIMP with layers etc

to-do list: vote more on main, edit more on main, answer more on main. be much more active on meta.

I had to install GIMP to convert my cell phone pictures to black and white so I could post it here (2 MB limit).

@KazWolfe sorry

you could have just uploaded them to normal Imgur @WinEunuuchs2Unix

Haven't used Imgur or pastebin yet.

12:40 AM
you've used Imgur every single time you've uploaded an image to SE
it's just a special division with a 2MB upload limit

hey, @ThomasWard, can you do me a favor?

depends

Next 2 months I'll be working on figuring out fan works in Ubuntu 16.04, or rather why it's not working :(

oh, wait nevermind.
i'm dumb and forgot search did what i needed

rip

12:41 AM
hue

@Seth you should take a listen to Sky Sailing. It's got an interesting style. Lot more guitar
@edwinksl hua

actually, @ThomasWard, is there a reason this was deleted -- meta.askubuntu.com/questions/12122?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix huo

I was just getting used to hue.
@Zacharee1 hey

12:43 AM
huueeeee

user was deleted, @KazWolfe

@ThomasWard that deletes metaposts? TIL

hue

not sure, could've been that it was unanswered, but that's an old thing

maybe it's because of the negative score

12:44 AM
@ThomasWard well, timeline says it was deleted a while after anything

howdy is an acceptable question to request a terminal app that supports PgDn and PgUp?
as a question

@William ehh
maybe

i thought so

Just remap PgUp to x number of mouse scroll wheels clicks.

12:46 AM
lol

wat, wut, hue!, hoa!

hua huu huee

@WinEunuuchs2Unix with what app?

wtf

what is going on here

12:48 AM
I'm getting texts from one contact in a non-default text messaging app
and I can send them through it too o_O
that shouldn't be possible on Android

actually, there's an api iirc

@William Don't know the app... is it called to-go or something like that? read about it a few months ago... basically a glorified keyboard macro program that controls mouse macros too.

@KazWolfe Android needs a default SMS app since 4.4.2.

@Zacharee1 correct, but anything can still call the API.

12:50 AM
It hasn't been possible to use multiple at the same time since then

@WinEunuuchs2Unix autokey might work

That's how you can send/receive messages through Hangouts.

@KazWolfe but it shouldn't be able to send SMS
it ain't Hangouts

i'm using hangouts as an example.

@William I use AutoKey for main site answers where I need to enter <kbd> </kbd>

12:50 AM
you can send/receive texts through anything if the API call is being made.
you're not supposed to, but you can

I use Pulse SMS as my default SMS app. Most of my texts go through it (I thought all till now). It's this one contact that has his messages sent to the Stock LG Messaging app. They don't show up in Pulse, and I can reply to them from the Messaging app.

oh.
i thought it was backwards, this one is a lot easier to explain.

Messaging even tells me that I need to set it as default to send SMS

The Messaging app really just acts as a frontend to the Telephony/SMS API.
Pulse, however, can make calls to it if/as it wants.

yeah but it isn't the default and it knows that

point is, usually, when something can't be delivered to pulse sms for some reason or similar (or certain flags exist), the message goes to the hardcoded "safety" which is the builtin messaging app

But it shouldn't be able to send, should it?

it happened every so often on my device, especially with T-Mobile messages for some reason.
i don't think android is going to stop it because it's a system app calling a system api

hmm

12:56 AM
it might stop userland apps (don't have a recent android to play with), but i think system apps have certain exemptions

it won't even let me compose a message

(doesn't mean it doesn't have its own checks in place)

made a new convo in Pulse with myself so it would be seen in Messaging

you might have found a bug or something.

the text field is grayed out
but not in the convo with the glitched contact
