9:00 PM
Now is tha big question : should i invest in making Windows 10 VM and a few softwarez that I need for my college courses or not ?
I'm talking about Matlab , Multisim , and LabVIEW . . . for starters
That's about 200 - 300 $ in total

Nah... Just Python all the things.
No, seriously. I don't know those applications. What can they do (which you couldn't achieve in a few lines of Python as well)?
But "Multisim" looked like "Muslim" to me on first sight. I guess I've read too much on Islam yesterday...

Multisim is circuit design software. Really useful. We use it for design and simulation of electric circuits.

Sounds like something worth trying.

LabVIEW is visual programming language + suite . . . . used for prototyping systems

How does it compare to something like Splice?

9:05 PM
labview is the work of satan, comparable in evilness to COBOL
you can replace matlab with python (i use both though)

@NathanOsman I can't find splice , do you have a link for it ? As for multisim, it is very fancy. They have kind of simulation of Tektronix oscilloscope. Basically I've learned how to use real hardware via that.
And all the simulations have adjustments for the real world stuff. Like , it really comes close to real stuff
LabVIEW can sure be evil , but at least they have certification for it :D ergo moar jebs for meh . . . .maybe ?
Hmmm , what does python have for control systems ?
I know i can substitute Matlab with Octave, but the two are somewhat different . . .

you can't entirely replace matlab toolboxes with python unfortunately, so you might indeed still need matlab
but the matlab core definitely can be replaced with python

SPICE. Sorry, I don't know why I called it "splice".
SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) is a general-purpose, open source analog electronic circuit simulator. It is a program used in integrated circuit and board-level design to check the integrity of circuit designs and to predict circuit behavior. == Introduction == Unlike board-level designs composed of discrete parts, it is not practical to breadboard integrated circuits before manufacture. Further, the high costs of photolithographic masks and other manufacturing prerequisites make it essential to design the circuit to be as close to perfect as possible before t...

SPICE is quite an EE thing, no harm learning i suppose

@NathanOsman well , SPICE is more like command line stuff. Multisim is kind of like IDE, where you can drag and drop parts, and has GUI simulations and stuff. I think it was based on SPICE but over years evolved into very serious suite. I mean, there's seminars and stuff going on for multisim . For students it is sort of alright, i think i got student version for like 40$ . . . LabVIEW for students is 20$
There's a few others too - LTSpice and TI TINA ( by texas instruments of course ). But LTSpice i think lacks a bit compared to multisim

9:15 PM
I used a similar thing at school once. But our app seems to be only high school level compared to that... What was it called again?

TI 89?

Multisim ?
Electronics Workbench ?

Crocodile Physics

electronics.stackexchange.com has a mini version of Circuit Lab.

We had a school license that included free copies for all students.

9:39 PM
@Serg so i was looking at the LMR subreddit and came across this post and thought it might be relevant to you given your yellow fever xD

Q: Network problems after reboot: "Destination Host Unreachable" although is always worked before!

HurrdurrfurrSo I had to reboot my Ubuntu Server 15.10 and that is causing me headaches without end. The first issue was that the machine plainly refused to boot. It tried to raise network interfaces but was unable to do so. The waiting timer counted up, but there was no timeout set ("no limit"). I was able...

Serg approves ^_^b

@CodeX I think I remember a story in the news about a woman who basically dropped out of college because her laptop came preinstalled with Linux . Is this her ?
@edwinksl have you seen this one on that subreddit ? linuxmemes.com/fun/bMDsXB

nope but that gif is accurate

9:51 PM
@Serg in this case reporter called her college and she was able to join

It's funny how in our modern age people need computers , yet they just don't wanna figure out a thing or two about them . . .

I think it in this odd way ..If everybody gets smarter then I have to work harder to be more smart .. so its okay if some remain not so smart xD

10:11 PM
@Serg ugh ikr?!

I've been trying to install make on vagrant on ubuntu 16.04, but every time I try to do "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get install --reinstall make" It fails because "Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored...."
The mirrors aren't down so I'm not sure why

10:28 PM
Nevermind ^

Chat script is being moved. Stand by...

10:43 PM
I would love to see that girl that dropped out of college to show 6 year old open firefox from command-line

@Serg next generation will surely be much smarter

@Serg dat gtk warnings xD

yup , them Gtk warnings. And that's why I use &> /dev/null

O_O
I just looked at my GPU. Wowzerz the dust.

Time to do deep cleaning ?
Hi, Chan-HoSuh o/
Haven't seen you around in a while

10:58 PM
@CodeX before the Internet and smartphones etc. were so popular in the US, a lot of Americans (in my impression) thought that countries like Japan were full of technologically savvy people because they were using more sophisticated devices ... but now I think people realize that's like thinking the average person knows a lot more about science because they can use a microwave

sechat.quickmediasolutions.com is now running off my CoreOS cluster.

@Serg been busy with work and other things ...
@Serg how are things, any new milestones? :)

@Chan-HoSuh I see
userscript cannot be added from this website

@Chan-HoSuh Been to China for the first time, 5/17 to 6/7 . Started writing more and more python scripts on the site. Recovering from lots of lost reputation points ( i lost 10k due to recent cleaning on the site )
Made a few indicators for unity , gonna be working on a few more
Right now staying home, not working or taking classes this summer

Now for the moment of truth.
Let's find out what happens when I kill the server it's running on >:)

11:06 PM
wow
looks cool
Chan-ho is typing xD

@Serg wow
@CodeX I'm a slow typer :D

Unit is being rescheduled...

haha

IT WORKED.
I doubt any of you can see a difference when you visit sechat.quickmediasolutions.com but the website just moved to a new server all by itself.

there are currently 0 users chatting in 0 rooms :(

11:11 PM
It always takes 30-60 seconds for everyone to reconnect.

that reminds me. have you used setuptools before Nathan?
@NathanOsman oh okay.

I can never remember if it is distutils or setuptools that I use.
Looks like setuptools.

well distutils was deprecated, so I hope it is setuptools xD
I have to convert UTT away from distutils.. I'm hoping this will be easy.
webupd8, y u so slow to update atom
I wonder if I could make a PPA that just pulls the latest stable deb from github..

Gaaah , there's this pretty good book about control systems, but its kindle edition is soooo broken

@ParanoidPanda your request to join the wiki editors group was approved :D

11:19 PM
"kindle edition... broken" <-- yep, seems to often be the case with any book with special typesetting needs

Q: After many years, Ubuntu / Linux mint is still in trouble with wifi driver

TomSawyerIm installing Linux mint / Ubuntu on my HP2000. And the wifi doesn't work randomly. After 3 year, i come back for using linux and its still suck with driver. It takes me 3 days and still can't figure out how to get the wifi works properly. The error is: rt2800_wait_wpdma_ready rt2800pci_set_de...

@NathanOsman hey, I see it!

What?

the chat thingy

I don't see you. You must be on the old server.
Try reloading the page.

ohai
You could contact the wifi card manufacturer and request that they release the firmware source code. In the meantime, Linux devs will continue working for very little if anything to reverse engineer it while taking the lack of appreciation in stride. — Alcuin Arundel 46 secs ago

I don't know what this is. But it isn't an answer.

dude been copypastaing random trash

I see things haven't changed much on Ask Ubuntu.

Nah, not by much
Fabby and AB are busy working, kos is MIA and no idea what he is doing. Thomas and terdon are newly-elected mods

shoot that reminds me

how is this not NAA? it doesn't answer the question at all askubuntu.com/a/805047/15003

11:44 PM
> For Ubuntu 12.04 and above (tested to 14.04), simply enter the following command that will install all necessary packages:
then he lists python opengl packages.

which OP already did, as mentioned in the question

So today i tried doing tripple screen setup. TV via HDMI , PC monitor via VGA, and my laptop screen
for some reason my ubuntu can only do dual setup or all mirrored setup

@edwinksl oh huh. It does appear most of those packages are the same. I hadn't noticed. That's why custom flags are helpful ;)

HDMI would only mirror another display (VGA or internal one ) , yet it works alright when it's used alone

i would like an explanation from whoever declined my flag

11:49 PM
"not an answer" makes a mod think "does this attempt to answer the question?", if it looks like it does it is easy to miss other things.
@edwinksl I did, and you got one :)

am i correct to conclude the flag is incorrectly declined?

I have left a comment on that answer, hopefully the author edits it

kinda. It is an attempt to answer the question, but I missed that the package names coincide. Again, 'not an answer' means the post does not attempt to answer the question. This does, although now that you point out the OP already tried most of that I may go back and delete it anyway.
I encourage people to use custom flags more often. We can't always tell what makes you think a post isn't an answer, especially if it does look like someone trying to answer the question :)

how can posting an answer that essentially repeats the question's content be considered an attempt to answer?

Just watch the comment stream.
That is either insanely funny or horrifying.
> "LE 4CHAN ARMY IS HERE"
Heh, no kidding.
Whose dumb idea was it to enable chat for that event?
Dear me. Every bad word, phrase, and racial slur has already been said multiple times in the last minute.
