@TheBrownOne That sounds like all too much fun! :D

4:42 PM
Does Ubuntu not ship with an IM client anymore?
oh there it is. empathy still.
I don't have much empathy for empathy.

@Seth in the final release of 16.04 empathy is not included anymore ! Hi Seth ! :)

hi! What will be included in its place?

I am wondering if XChat IRC might be included, as I don't remember installing here. But it could be that I installed Xubuntu.
Or Pidgin

xchat is only for IRC..

Oops, my bad

Seriously, got here 15 minutes before they opened and I'm still waiting

user139252
I never received my new registration stickers, though, so I'm stuck here

Don't you just love bureaucracy?

user139252
Any Apache related questions I can answer in my down time?

Seriously, am I too impatient? People have time to ask a question, expect an answer within a day or so, but to look at your answer, well, we'lll see, some of these days... (while the answer is tested in 30 seconds or so) askubuntu.com/questions/732510/…

5:19 PM
'tis just the way things work. You're not the first to be frustrated by it.

@JacobVlijm It could also be that they are waiting for the answer they want to hear.

@Seth yeah, I know...

*In computing, mmap(2) is a POSIX-compliant Unix system call that maps files or devices into memory.*
what does it mean by **maps** ?

@Terrance sure, but even then, if someone takes the effort for me, I'd show some sign of live. I believe I always did. Most people do by the way, so I shouldn't complain.

@JacobVlijm I agree with you so much! If they take that time to do it, why not upvote if you can see that it is going to work for you, even if you don't get the chance to test it yet. Showing the love is what it is all about. =)
@JacobVlijm BTW, +1 for that one because I have had to do the exact same for my system startup before. Delayed application start solved my problem. =)

5:27 PM
@Terrance I totally agree.
@Terrance thanks!! Be sure it was not was I what after, just let out some air :)

@JacobVlijm No problem! My issue on my system was that my old video card had resolution problems that the NVIDIA driver through X11 kept messing up. I delayed a script containing xrandr for 5 seconds. If it ran at that exact time, it did not work. So, the upvote is for a good answer. =)

kos
@edwardtorvalds Here it explains it well: gnu.org/software/libc/manual/html_node/…

@JacobVlijm Your explanation for the reason to wait is another reason why I upvoted you. =)

@Terrance :)

Taking a calculus class so that I can get my teaching credential in math as well as English... I'm not sure the $3k/year pay bump is worth this torture :(

oldefoxxHot normally a problem, if you have access to a working pc and a dvd burner. Reburn the ISO inage on an new DVD-R blank, or erase the existing DVD-RW disk anf reburn it. I'v encountered many "hidden" errors in optical disks that can clobber you good, but just redo and try again. But you may not...

O_O
who in the world is going to read that?

I doubt the authenticity of that answer.

@Seth Nothing ... AFAIK ! :)

:/

5:52 PM
@Seth Holy wow! That is a LOOOOONG answer!

:27532626 how in the world did you get 15.10 next? o_O
that should be hard to download these days..
@Terrance ikr, it's crazy xD

@Seth I have no idea

It should be 16.04 next now..

Do we have a canonical question on dual-booting Ubuntu on a Mac?

@Seth But I couldn't make it work

5:54 PM
@Seth charming post :) 4673 words...

@kos I think the closest we have is this:

@Seth Sounds that would do, thanks!

@Seth I am looking for where I got it from. I have no idea now. Grrrrrr :/

If someone has an upvote for Jacob Vlijm's answer here... We both put quite an effort in writing our answers to that question, mine was accepted but his answer is just as good as mine, and deserves more reputation.

@kos Wow, as long as people like you are around, it's good to be here. What a friendly gesture, you're the best, really.

kos
@JacobVlijm It's fair, I know we both put an effort in writing those answers and that my answer was picked because one had to be picked. Sometimes I've provided answers which were just as good as another answer but still another one was accepted, so it always feel a bit unfair.

@kos well, I know the situation, but in some cases it doesn't hurt :) I also think your answer was closer to the way of thinking of OP, and therefore the right one to accept. I felt I had to finish the answer into a good one after the "new information". Always like to have a good closure of what I started, no matter the reward. Obviously so do you.

kos
6:33 PM
@JacobVlijm Same here. I dislike leaving things halfway either. :)
@A.B. You around? This seems one down your alley: askubuntu.com/q/732877/380067

@JacobVlijm how's the rep going today? :D

@Rinzwind You are nasty :)

hey I aint catching up on the mv answer :(

@Rinzwind I guess I am spoiled the last few days, objectively it's not too band..

good :)

6:39 PM
@Rinzwind still shocked by the popularity of mkdir

lol

It was a 22 seconds answer!

I saw a dupe on it kicked too ... >:)

kos
@Rinzwind I know you didn't ask, but I'm beating you at your game this quarter: stackexchange.com/leagues/31/quarter/askubuntu :P

@kos I dont care about people not on the 1st line here askubuntu.com/users?tab=Reputation&filter=all :D :D I am chasing fossy >>)

kos
6:43 PM
@Rinzwind 100 more rep than you each quarter and I should be able to reach you before I'll be too old to read what's on the screen. :P

oh the 1st 50k rep is pretty easy to get. Just keep answering

kos
Oh come on, the latest 50K gotta be easier to get. You answer better, people trust you because of the number etc.

@TheBrownOne So looking forward to it!
Wanna give Unity without the Amazon thing a shot.

6:47 PM
@kos I believe that's true, the line is steeper over time with practically all high rep users

@kos ppl ignore you cuz you got already so much rep ;-)
@kos then again I remember I was told by a mod I was the quickest ever on 50k from 0 rep ;)

@Rinzwind I guess that means we should ignore you even more? ;P

SETHY!!!!!!!!!!! :+)

Hi! :)
only 500 away from 20k..

You can no longer stop me from passing fossy soon >:)

@Rinzwind Your rep graph doesn't agree:

Oh it was YOU that removed that user the other day? >:)

kos
It's a curve!

all of those lines are curved :+)

6:51 PM
I rest my case

@JacobVlijm it was too heavy? :=)

@Rinzwind lol

kos
My rep graph disagrees:

@Rinzwind haha nope. SE does most of the user removals now (besides spam users)

@Seth I know I know :=D

@kos Reading =)

@kos looks like you were not having a lot of fun on December 5 :)
(or actually you were)

dont remind him :=D
@kos do you know this one: askubuntu.com/reputation

kos
@JacobVlijm You mean December 1/2?
Not sure what happened December 1 though.

@kos hard to say... looks like around 5...

kos
6:59 PM
@Rinzwind I was playing with it yesterday. I get the right reputation if I sum the daily totals, but I get less reputation if I sum all the fields. Thought it should have been more since the daily totals don't include reputation over the threshold. O.o

@kos so basically mapping means keeping parts of file in memory

kos
@JacobVlijm Yeah I got a -50 on December 1 and a -78 on December 2... askubuntu.com/users/380067/…. December 2 was because of a +100 bounty I set, but I'm not sure what happened on December 1.

user139252
@hbdgaf Disgusting Electronic Reply, Pretty Stupid - DERPS

kos
@edwardtorvalds Yes, the idea is the file is kept in memory so that the process can access it directly on memory instead of reading / writing the file constantly, which is expensive from a I/O point of view in case of files, however it's not only for files, you can also map a process' memory or kernel space's memory.

ok, thanks

kos
7:07 PM
Np

dutch people should be quicker >:)

Oh man.
A spanish civil servant was going to get a medal for 20 years of service. But it turned out that the last 6 years he never ever even showed up at work. _O-
sick :D

kos
@edwardtorvalds * a process' memory or user space memory from kernel space. You can't map kernel space's memory from user space (that would be quite disastrous :D)

Yeah, I wonder when they find out about us :)

@Rinzwind that why I should have become a civil servant... :)

Takky! :)

you earn money just for being there, somewhere on that planet.

7:19 PM
I just upvoted you :+

thanks!
I like the tesseract to espeak thing... it's scary.

kos
@Rinzwind Yup:
The program 'java' can be found in the following packages ;-) — PetarP 47 secs ago
Ah you saw that.

Be warned...
Since in this case it makes absolutly no difference, bc mint is based on ubuntu anyway and the procedure is the same, I don´t think it is necassary, but if it´s necassary I will ask the same question while claiming to use Ubuntu — MiXT4PE 2 mins ago

@JacobVlijm See you!

Later @JacobVlijm!
@Rinzwind I saw it first! :O

Ugh. My scope was working yesterday and now it's not

7:34 PM
so you are out of scope :P
@JacobVlijm 200 dead on :+

kos
I can't install Debian on VirtualBox. I'm about to lose my mind.

More and more things are starting to be built on electron. Neat.
@RPiAwesomeness Ouch. I hate it when that happens. What does your scope do?

@Seth It's a livestreaming scope, different from the last one I tried to do
This time it'll be an aggregate of a couple different sites
I need a better idea, but I'm just working on this so I have something to submit

I figured the issue out though, I was calling something at the wrong time
@Rinzwind :P
I could totally do that

7:47 PM
lol
can you do a fsck from initramfs?
answer; yes :=)

8:13 PM
@Seth Most things are built on electrons!

heh

Oh
you meant electron
the web thingy
derp

yeah ;p

It needs to speed up. I'm still using vim and sublime text because Atom is so terrible.
Like I'm not at gary bernhardt level, where if something slows down by 20ms i panic, but I do care about speed.

I quite like it, but it definitely could use work
I think the i386 version or one of my plugins must have a memory leak or something, because if I leave it up without actively using it for a long period of time, my laptop just lags to heck and back

Q: Running maintenance commands in pbuilder chroot using cron

@Zacharee1 if you want to do my calculus homework

@TheBrownOne â—”_â—”
@Terrance why?
@Terrance Because of its length?

@Zacharee1 Exactly! =)

Is it any good?

9:22 PM
@Zacharee1 I tried to read it, but I keep drifting off trying to figure out what it is about. I wonder if his fingers were bleeding by the end of it? =)

lol

kos
@Terrance Assuming it will fit on the wall. :)

@kos LOL! I don't even think it will fit on a legal sheet

@kos any good at Minecraft parkour?

place on a cloud
that's great

@James You actually read that far, or skipped to the end? ;)

@Terrance I skimmed along

but not much

Ah
Landscape here and it took a while to get to the bottom of it

I might just need to flip two of mine on my desk at work. I have a quad monitor stand
Actually, flipping on the quad stand probably won't work. Grrrrrrr >:(

kos
@Zacharee1 Not too shabby.

@kos wanna play a race?

@Terrance Yeah that'd be difficult.

user136984
Is this answer ok? :)

9:53 PM
@ParanoidPanda actually just saw that one :p

I guess what I could do is make Right - Left configuration, and make my Windows (Admin) system on the left and my Ubuntu (Work) on the right. That might be cool! :)

How is the quad laid out?

Q: Installation of nginx on Ubuntu 15.10 gives "Inappropriate ioctl for device"

roachI just installed ubuntu 15.10 in a container on my machine and want to install nginx. I run an apt-get update, and then sudo apt-get install nginx and I get an error message saying Inappropriate ioctl for device. Specifically my output is as follows: Setting up nginx-core (1.9.3-1ubuntu1.1) ... ...

11:13 PM
@Terrance wow, um. It's nice I guess - tl:dr

@Mateo I don't think anyone could read it without their mind exploding! ;)

"in preperation for a shootdown from the Admin" :/

LOL
That cracked me up!
I really do think it needs to be framed as a classic.

"Occasionally they pull these dixes together into an SP. which I think of as a Super Patch" there is some gem's from stackexchange gold in there ;)
all this for a "my install broke" question

I almost wonder if that is what happened at the end of his answer.
Better video
@Mateo I know. My mind really hurt after reading about 3 paragraphs.

LOL

ok, so is the unicode/dos/hacker history necessary? I get going over - use the "other" option on the live cd, but now this is just trailing on pointlessly...
