Q: Judgement Day Code On Java

Mohammad ZIa KhanJudgement Day Skynet has figured out a way to take over the world. It will keep producing robots and molecular assemblers until it has converted all matter for its own purpose. Robots work to produce more robots and molecular assemblers. Molecular assemblers convert matter into programmable matt...

O.O

hah. judgement day code.

6:08 PM
that sounds like the LSD LCD ss track

nah, it's some professor trying to make programming fun.
also, this is interesting... i have to look in to how they overrode "Don't let this window generate any more popups" -- don't open this unless you're ready to hard-kill your browser instantpcalerts.com/alert/index.html

hehe
I want to open that

what did I miss?
@hbdgaf Really? I can stop the popups

@Whaaaaaat i can too, but it's easier to kill the browser if you don't want to disable js

yesterday, by Lucio
@Whaaaaaat nothing really

6:13 PM
@hbdgaf Without JS.
The disable further messages checkbox works for me...

it didn't work here... hmmm.... maybe it gets code in another tab if possible or something

I think that's what it does. It self-refreshes the page.
Yep. Exactly what it does.

there is no way to avoid the block from the browser programatically

It refreshes the page after 2 popups.
The browser wants 3 before it gives the "Disable" text. (Or at least chrome does)

So, it's just a glitch where the block doesn't take effect if you refresh faster than I can respond to the popup

6:17 PM
For me there is no refresh

@hbdgaf Bingo.

Has anyone called that number btw?

Nope, but I sort of want to troll-call and get an IP to add to my firewall exceptions so they can RDP in and assist me ;)

:D
"Sir, where is your Start menu?"
That number is from PCSupportGroup

"It's at the bottom left. My son uses some VNC thing to help me out all the time, but he said the auth sucked. So he put in this fire-thingy. He showed me how to add his long number to it. If I add your long number can you help me?"

6:20 PM
:D
BTW, calling that number is not a good idea.

>.>Nobody said it was.

It authorizes huge monthly charges to your account
and that's how they prevent you from leaving the page.
OnBeforeUnload JS

i lold

Heh... wouldn't matter on a hard-limit prepaid phone. There's a reason I'm paranoid. Anyway. Tab tab space got it closed for me. I just couldn't scroll down to see what I was clicking on the superlong window.

That's why it says "Confirm Navigation"
That's why it's so long.
So you can't see the "Close" button.

6:24 PM
Don't I know it. Anyway.

Q: Cannot connect to localhost

umdcoderI am running linux mint and have typed into the command terminal some commands to connect to my localhost but it keeps saying connection failed. Here is what I type in: echo "echo test" | ./<my executable> localhost <port #> Here is my code for the connect: int r = connect(sock, addrList->...

wtf

Reasoning for this. The first JS you run reloads the page. (First notification)

I think that a "wtf" comment there will get flaged sadly

Then this calls the BeforeUnload function.
IT'S MINT
oh. StackOverflow.

it is still mint ...

6:27 PM
If it was AU, that would be nuked so fast.

If that was AU, that would be nuked so fast.
>:D

you know what i meant

Actually, no I didn't.
I haven't had my third cup of coffee yet.

lucio wanted to justifiably say wtf. the powers that be would have dared him to say it again with penalty.

6:33 PM
@LuisAlvarado Hi!
I owe you 25 doge, don't I?

Hi WHAAAAA

ohay Luis

Sup @hbdgaf how are you guys today

Hi luis! I was about to mention you :)

Q: Should I disable swap file if I have lots of RAM or should I move it to a virtual RAM drive?

user367257Imagine I have tons of RAM. Let's say 64GB. That's a lot for even gaming PCs. Now the default location of a pagefile in Windows is on the main OS drive, be it HDD or SSD, which are faster in general, but still not as fast as RAM. Something tells me that disabling the pagefile on the hard drive o...

@LuisAlvarado What is your Dogecoin address? I'll send you the goods.

6:34 PM
mots. thinking about taking a nap.

@Lucio Swapfile on a ram drive? wtf...

@Lucio well that was weird. Yesterday I did a talk about Ubuntu and one person from the audience asked THAT SAME THING.

We are synchronized :P

But that's on windows right?

3 mins ago, by hbdgaf
user image

6:35 PM
@Lucio I am ALWAYS 4 bytes off

The only reason I would use such a big swap is for hibernation

@LuisAlvarado people there talked about linux too

2x to 3x as much as RAM
a ok

@Lucio What the firefox?

Luis! :=)

6:36 PM
oh god. its rinzwind

I see a lot of excellent answers

@Whaaaaaat whatch it you! :=)

nobody else here was borned on September?
@Rinzwind hello... NEMESIS!

@LuisAlvarado you have been ahead of me 24 rep the whole day :=D

@LuisAlvarado My 12th backup server came online in September.

6:37 PM
@Whaaaaaat hahahha

@LuisAlvarado me December 16th so no

@LuisAlvarado october. wait 1.

Making a list of cool people and their Bday
To make an Ask Ubuntu Calendar

@LuisAlvarado lol

define cool.

6:38 PM
Mark is 18th of September

not a partial one either. an exact one. ;)

@Whaaaaaat People that force people to say Whaaaaat when talking to a person named Whaaaaat are cool

@LuisAlvarado lol

Quick question

if you search "birthday richard stallman" all you get is YOUYUBE videos :X
@LuisAlvarado 1 or 2?

6:40 PM
command line parameters with -- came from Unix type commands or were the - ones
2
September 2 in my case

@Rinzwind 1.6758101689851451450975872
Luis, add all 4k+ users to this calendar.

Same day the 3.11 Kernel came out

There's a 4k privilege for you! -- Added to AU Official Birthday Calculator!

@LuisAlvarado Unix only had SINGLE CHAR options

ok always get them confused

6:41 PM
The -- comes from GNU

so Linux is --, Unix is -

I shoud meta that.

ok your explanation is better
-- is GNU

:D

so basically I hate GNU then ^^

6:42 PM
lol

@LuisAlvarado You...

Preparing to do the LPIC-1 and LFCS
scared as hell

Oh Luis: simple rule: Unix is older than Linux and short parameter means a max of 52 params

Attention everyone! @LuisAlvarado hates GNU/Linux and Open Source! He is a Micro$oft lackey!!

@LuisAlvarado You know what wrapped me around the axle? When docker used -name. I was all "REALLY? You're making it worse. -a is for single character options --asomething is for multicharacter options. You're just doing it wrong." Thankfully it's deprecated

6:43 PM
flagges ^^

(Note to Self - Kill Whaaa silently... then kill anybody seeing this Hitman Style)

Yes. Kill my primary server. My AI will just reactivate on another server.

@hbdgaf wow, did not know that, but I can see how big of a problem that could be.

@LuisAlvarado gilles FTW: superuser.com/questions/174564/…

OMG @Whaaaaaat is Skynet!!

6:44 PM
@LuisAlvarado It made me want to hurt something. At least it's deprecated.

@LuisAlvarado even if I see it I'll keep quiet :=)

@Rinzwind Hey thanks

@LuisAlvarado no thank Gilles

@LuisAlvarado Not quite. I don't have infinite control.
I also follow the laws of Robotics.

@Whaaaaaat then you should be dead :=D

6:45 PM
@LuisAlvarado happy birthday¿

@Rinzwind Nah.

Ok I loled at "ls -BartSimpsonIsJustCool"

Self-preservation.

Q: Can we rescue this systemd content?

Jorge Castro Is it possible to "stop" a particular unit in juju? There is a really good writeup on systemd units here, which is unrelated to the original question but still good content: http://askubuntu.com/a/522630 Unfortunately I cannot leave a comment to the author because he deleted his post.

@Lucio thanks buddy
Hey, how are things about systemd and ubuntu 14.10?
Will it be implemented at the end?

6:47 PM
I know that @EliahKagan is also an AI. We are rivals...

@LuisAlvarado last I read: NOT before 16.04

asking because I can understand some points about not using it, but still there are many points worth checking it out. Thanks @Rinzwind.

Except he only has 2 backup servers...

6:48 PM
And @EliahKagan also can not resist logic loopholes/paradoxes.

I have to go
but I don't want to

So I can think about "This statement is false" all da---C͉͉͓͓̙͢r̠͎͟ḭ̛͎̯̤͎̟ͅt̯͈̯̕i͚̭̱̰̙ͅc̲̭̦̟̮a͏l̠̻͎͟ ̼͈̟̟̳e̮̼rr̹͈̖͠o̻r̮̼̤̠̀ ͍̥͔̬4͖̩̻̞9̯͓̥̖̦̹2̭̯̣̝͉̪3̸͉̹͙̜̣̬!̘̜̼̙̩̦

@Lucio take care buddy
We will wait here for you

@Lucio l8rz

6:50 PM
We have Skynet checking everyone out

I'm on a 5 day staycation, so i'll probably still have a tab open or something....

holy mother!

Rebooted on server 12.
See you Lucio!

@LuisAlvarado I was watching the new x-men today. no skynet there

@Rinzwind going to watch it today. From 1 to 10, how was it?

6:51 PM
@Rinzwind According to my security cameras, Rinzwind is a bad boy.

I am just at the point where wolverine is sent back
so 15 min into the movie

omgggg
no
dont say anything!!

Spoiler Alert!!

impossible to read _O-

6:52 PM
It's decent. SPOILER ALERT redacted

@LuisAlvarado I did not give anything away that was a. not in the trailer b. not already known. The whole movie is based on 1 of the cartoons...

Fun fact: You can make me run any command by pinging me and using this syntax: ecomm <command>
I am on Ubuntu 14.04

@Whaaaaaat ecomm echo rm -fr /
O.o

@LuisAlvarado I DO NOT LISTEN TO HUMANS

6:54 PM
Luis is not a human!

But i'll run it anyways.

11000001001001000100010011

Result: rm -fr /

Nope, he went spaceship... and that's the end of it.

In dutch Luis's name means Louse :=D

6:55 PM
anyways, ima shutdown now.

well when I was in the US they also wrote it like that -.-
I had to correct most teachers

@LuisAlvarado :X
Some Americans are weird :=)

Thanks for that >.<

:D

XD

7:00 PM
@Rinzwind I would not agree with that
@Rinzwind I would however agree that @hbdgaf is weird
^^

I never claimed to be normal. I just took a little umbrage to the fact that the rest of my country was as abnormal/non-stereotypical as I... So, I might have taken it in the opposite way.

7:19 PM
@LuisAlvarado if hbdgaf is the norm most americans are weird :=)

@Rinzwind I second that. Another question
was running "ls ???"
it found files with more than 3 chars
using 14.04

I am gone for a while :=) bbl

4 hours later…
10:56 PM
Why can we not VTC bounties?

@LuisAlvarado echo ls ???
I'm not sure if catch . and ..
probably a directory
wait... this is zsh
yep, bash is the same

nevermind, three letter directory and it shows contents

@Whaaaaaat more food for through meta.stackexchange.com/questions/199190/…

@Braiam I still want to closevote it.

removed

11:04 PM
@hbdgaf no, it only catch 3 letters files/dirs

@Whaaaaaat close which bounty Q?

Q: Create folders under places in Ubuntu 14.04

A Umar MuktharHow can i add folders under places menu in Ubuntu gnome with custom vector icons. There are few post already there. But the hard part is it is for Ubuntu 13.10 and the answers are based on Unity environment and it wont perfectly works in single attempt in 14.04. There fore new answers are needed....

It's a bit dupey.

shrug - let it run - it may get a better answer due to the increased visibility. If necessary we can dupe it after and maybe merge

@fossfreedom the problem is that the only answer is "it's hardcoded"
he needs to modify the sources files
@NathanOsman ruby?

maybe - muru's comment is actually a valid answer - just need to demonstrate that in the answer.

11:10 PM
why another answer?
is a waste of time

the nemo part

nemo !== nautilus, are we reading the same question?

yep - saying that it cannot be achieved and then give an alternative is valid

the alternative is here askubuntu.com/a/351533/169736

that's one alternative - editing the source. The OP says he doesnt want that.

11:13 PM
well, he won't get another answer

@Braiam python2. it throws invalid token in python3

There, posted an "impossible" answer.
