8:00 PM
wacha installing @Seth?

Ubuntu!
I am finally done with WUBI

jrg
@Seth install 13.04 already?

@jrg Doing it now.

jrg
sweet!

13.04 gave me an excuse to reformat everything :D
(13.04 doesn't support WUBI)

8:01 PM
@Seth You should get a metal for converting. Like there should be site badges for "wubi-no-more"

LOL

I'm reverting back to factory on my wifi nexus7 to install multi-rom so I can toggle from ubu-touch to raring arm to ice-cream-sandwich

Nice!
Has Ubuntu touch improved since the first Alpha or whatever?

The UI is pretty. Other than that it's mostly non-functional placeholders on the nexus7-wifi (i just wanted ubu-tablet not necessarily all the phone stuff so i was disappointed...i'm working on getting drivers and sensors working for now)

Ah, OK.
Will be fun when it actually works!

8:05 PM
Well it sort of works. I think some of the problems are the apps not using fullscreen properly (taskbar is supposed to auto-hide and doesn't so part of the window is off the bottom of the screen...making two of the demos including calculator not work. buttons are dead if the window isn't contained on screen)

Yeah. It needs a lot of work still.
Anybody looked at BB-OS 10?

i looked. i like it for the byod/segregation of data it allows, but beyond that it's sort of meh for me.

Personally, I'm kind of wondering how easy gesture based UIs are going to be once they get released.

jrg
android is very gesture based.
sorta, in its own way.

Not like Ubuntu Touch or BBOS 10 are.

jrg
8:11 PM
not to that extreme, correct.

Installation complete \o/
Oh man. I forgot to sync my bookmarks before I reinstalled o_o
@JorgeCastro OK. Confirmed on fresh Raring install. The keyboard shortcuts are the same, you just need to enable workspaces first.

@Seth How did you get some much rep using WUBI? :P
@Seth Thanks for the advice, now I'm saving this in my USB FD..

@Seth awesome! awarding!

@Lucio I donno. :P

8:26 PM
"donno" is that a word?

@Lucio Yeah, or you can sync them via google (if you use Chom[e][ium]) or Firefox Sync for Firefox.
@Lucio Short for "don't know"

Oh, I see

Slang really.

:D

@JorgeCastro Sweet, thanks!

8:32 PM
@Seth With Firefox Sync I can feel that my computer goes with me (with my USB stick). That is nice!

Yes it is!

8:45 PM
@Seth No you can't!
@Iancarroll you there?

You know where is the dupe. :)

@Lucio lol

Can you give me a link so I flag it? Or you can do all the job with your mod power

@Lucio well you know, now that mention this, I know this case is a dupe but I have found A LOT of cases where I can't mark them as dupe because of X or Y problem. Am surprised how many different problems a video card driver can make.
yeah sure buddy

Q: How to install an Nvidia , Ati or Intel video card

Richard RodriguezI just ordered the Nvidia GTX 560 card, which should arrive tomorrow. I have a dilemma, though. Should I keep using the driver which is available in "additional drivers" in Ubuntu (10.10), or should I install the driver from the nvidia site? The latest driver available at the nvidia site: LINUX...

@LuisAlvarado Yes
Anyway, I was just waiting for a link, so I can "star" it.
@LuisAlvarado gracias :D

jrg
8:50 PM
@LuisAlvarado 4,507 words.
28,240 characters including spaces.
wow thats a big answer.

@jrg How many break lines?

jrg
idk.
probably not nearly enough.

@Lucio wanted to talk to you about something but need to wait until jrg gets out... don't want to say anything around him because of... you know...the thing...

haha

@jrg hi buddy. What answer, the video one?

jrg
8:52 PM
@LuisAlvarado yeah.
@LuisAlvarado don't mind me, i'm just trolling around my network gear. routers, switches and other stuff is slowly going to suck me in.

Apr 15 at 0:31, by Mochan
@LuisAlvarado That is a monster answer o_O

Was actually working on a bigger one but there are sooooo many issues that I can't put there that I just went with "Got a problem, use the search button!"

jrg
yeah, basically.

you know what, going to add that to the end of the answer.

@LuisAlvarado What should I do with question like this?
(nvidia, ati, or whatever)

8:55 PM
@Lucio already marked as dupe.
If I find one of the other ones that are not dupe I'll show you.
There are actually many of them not a dupe of the one I made.

ok

I did a search for the Nvidia tag and of about 30 questions I only could mark as duplicate I think it was 5 or 6.

those are few, though

@jrg buddy I wrote something on the mod channel
@jrg problem, well an issue am having with the site.

jrg
opening the channel.

8:59 PM
I don't mind people editing my posts, but when you edit them to remove correct spellings and put in incorrect ones that's taking the biscuit... — Conn 3 mins ago
@EnglishPeople What do that comment mean??

It's taken the importance of the writing away from it.
biscuit <--- Good thing

So, did I something wrong?

Take it away, you are left with only 0.5 Lt of Whiskey

or did him take it wrong?

Don't know, which question/answer was that?

A: Colours/Background messed up in VNC Viewer

LucioAnswered by the OP in the question: Never mind, I just changed the desktop background to a plain color and it's okay now.

@LuisAlvarado It doesn't have a translation for us :)
In Argentina we just say "mmm.. biscuits!"

A ok british. Because of the "Colours" ^^

Ohhhhhh

Colors <-- American English
Colours <-- British English
Colores <-- WE ROCK SPANISH!!
2
That simple ^^

Damn British!
@LuisAlvarado What about football, or... Fútbol! ??
Do/did you play it?

Well football is the same everywhere (Futbol) only in the us the say Soccer -.-
Which for me is a huge FAIL!
That's why you hear "American Football". Note that "American" is everything between Greenland and Chile

9:11 PM
@Lucio Hush.

It should correctly be labeled "US Soccer" or something like that.

It's handegg.
2

But hey, each country does what they feel is right.
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL
HAAHHAHHAH
@FEichinger man almost felt from the chair
haha

@LuisAlvarado right
@FEichinger only the language ;)

@Lucio Still hush!

9:12 PM
hahah

be right back, need to logout

That's fair. Alternately, you could call the "British spellings" of English words French-English abonimations and US English spellings proper latin derivations a la "colōris" <-- note the lack of an our in there ;) all in good fun btw

had the session online for about 6 months

see you later

Note to self - Don't use the same session for many months. AU will go crazy.

9:15 PM
@CallmeV And yet the US had the French fight for them against us. :P

@Lucio weird that, with many VNC options, they use RealVNC
I mean you got Vino, Remmina, Even Teamviewer
Nope. RealVNC FTW!

@LuisAlvarado {{It's the only real VNC.}}

haha yeah
He has the experience to prove it

The KIS philosophy.

9:30 PM
@LuisAlvarado hm?

@Seth hi bud

Hi there :)

@Lucio Done with the colour issue

A: Colours/Background messed up in VNC Viewer

Luis AlvaradoIf you want full wicked colours follow this simple steps: Open VNC VIEWER Select OPTIONS Unselect Adapt to Network Speed Drag the bar to the quality you wish to have To the Right is the best colour option but uses more bandwidth. To the left you have less bandwidth use but also less col...

I'm going to reply to that comment >:D

@LuisAlvarado Thanks dude

9:35 PM
Lucky for me, RealVNC has not even changed one bit since I used Windows in 2002-2003

o_o

Now there will be an American how will be angry :P

^^
BTW, trying to get 5 more votes here askubuntu.com/questions/218567/…
Trying to get the gold badge
nope can't remember the gold badge name

@LuisAlvarado The other answer is way simple.
so you have mine
:D

thanks, 4 more and I win the Golden Globe awa... Gold badge

9:42 PM
lol
For the current and past detected MHz speeds.
That is interesting

How would I start troubleshooting suspend issues?

I don't like suspend neither hibernate
Just, turned ON, and OFF

That might be what I have to do.
@Conn Firstly: Anyone and everyone can edit everyone's posts. If that's not OK with you then this probably isn't the place for you. See the FAQ. Second: "colour" is the European (think UK) spelling of the American "color". Rather a trivial edit I know, but then, this is the internet. It's diverse. Thirdly: Being rude is absolutely 100% NOT allowed. After all, it's just a word. — Seth 30 secs ago
There.

A: Any way to check the clock speed of my processor?

Luis AlvaradoThere are a couple of ways: lscpu or more precise lscpu | grep "MHz". This will give you the general MHz for the CPU. cat /proc/cpuinfo or more precise cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep "MHz". This will give you the individual MHz for each CPU Core. So if you have an Core 2 Duo, AMD Bulldozer, Core i...

I'm in limbo now :D
After Ctrl+Alt+F1 and sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback && DISPLAY=:0 gnome-panel I am semi operational.
Hmm. No javascript for Lynx? :'(

10:17 PM
@LuisAlvarado Hey

@Seth back and what happen there

I ripped an HDD out of my old desktop computer, and got it to boot
Turns out it's 64 bit
:)

@LuisAlvarado I just installed 13.04, and I have to find a new graphics driver.

One flaw though :(

@IanCarroll hey buddy, ok I took about 6 hours and what I found was mostly issues related to having a rack and ubuntu server not detecting it. Several recommended connecting another HDD or hooking the hdd directly tot he motherboard in some cases.

10:18 PM
After I logged back in Unity was gone :/

@IanCarroll Ah ok, and it booted correctly and detected the hdd?

It never failed to detect it
Well, yes, it did in the installer
did not

Hm. @jrg still around?

sorry :P

but? (Suspense background music)

10:19 PM
Yeah, well
you see
there's this new thing
called the Internet
and it's not working

hahahha

It's not detecting any of the interfaces.

did you ping something

Yep

like a lan ip or something closes to the pc

10:20 PM
Google does not exist, according to it

ok
ok you have the server on a lan right?

Nope, just wifi! For a gaming hosting company, as well!
:P Yes, it's on a lan

ok can you ping any of the other PCs in the lan?
let me start over, can you at least ping localhost?

I can't find it on the lan

@LuisAlvarado I just flagged the wrong answer.

10:22 PM
its all wireless right?

Why would I not be able to ping localhost? Isn't that like, impossible?

@Seth where?

My last custom flag. This answer: askubuntu.com/a/66412/44179

well there are some configurations that you... aaa nevermind too long to explain, in Linux you can do anything basically

I know, I forgot the file name!

10:23 PM
so yes, you can get to a point of not being able to ping localhost which is a WTF HAPPENED HERE kind of situation

So, just ignore that flag please :)

sudo rm -r /*

@Seth done
@IanCarroll WOW!, well that would work
I mean kill the whole PC

I did that on a VPS to see what would happen
It survived
I couldn't ls to see what was left though :D
It couldn't delete anything in /proc

@LuisAlvarado Thanks.

10:24 PM
It wiped clean /etc

@LuisAlvarado Flagged the right one now :D

jrg
@Seth yes?

@IanCarroll did you reboot? did it survive?

@jrg About this question:
58
Q: Unity doesn't load, no Launcher, no Dash appears

jrgWhen I login, nothing happens. I am presented with my desktop wallpaper. No Dash, no Launcher, nothing.

We dupe a lot of questions to that, but I don't think it's a common problem anymore.

I did this because somebody stupidly posted to chmod 777 your whole hard drive, and then somebody commenting said that it would halt your system. I figured that it would be worse to, well, delete everything. It survived though...

10:26 PM
I think it's usually graphics problems these days.

@Seth for questions/answers that have a lot of votes I tend to reallllyyy think about it when trying to merge.

jrg
@Seth true.

Soo.. I could sorta try to answer it again, for graphics problems or we should define a new dupe target. (IMO)

jrg
well

@LuisAlvarado Erm, I'm not talking about merging. I'm talking about deleting duplicate answers.

jrg
10:28 PM
i'm not sure.

@Seth aaa ok.

jrg
so deleting duplicate answers, sure, that's fine.
as for what our new problems are, i'm not sure.

Luis, is there a way to re-run the network config in the install in a normal shell?

jrg
i will readily admit that I don't have any problems with ubuntu now, so i rarely see graphics problems or anything like that.

@IanCarroll yes, let me point you to a question that should be able to answer that.

jrg
10:29 PM
so i don't know if most of the new ones are graphics problems.

@jrg I'm just thinking, duping stuff to that might not be a good idea since I don't think it happens as much as graphics issues.

@luis I posted a question already :P
Might as well mark it as a duplicate

@jrg Well, it just happened to me. That's what got me thinking.

@IanCarroll see this one to make sure it does not first answer your question
14
A: How to connect and disconnect to a network manually in terminal?

Luis AlvaradoThis applies to 12.04+ since this are the ones I could test but could also be used in older versions. I have separated this guide into several parts, which consist of: Part 1 - Wireless Routers with no password or WEP Key Part 2 - Wireless Routers with WPA Key Part 2.1 - Connecting to a ...

I was joking when I said I was on WiFI :P

10:32 PM
@IanCarroll You will die!

Oh know, don't -9 me!

Anyway, I need to go for now.. Maybe I should meta about it later @jrg?

@IanCarroll Die! (rm /*;reboot)

@LuisAlvarado As root.

@LuisAlvarado killall Ian, kill -9 $ianprocessid
I have spawned a VPS just to screw with
The SSH should go live in like 20 seconds
You can access it using the following credentials:

Username: root
Password: fvmyazirplib

Screw it up, delete the hard drive, whatever. It's a VM anyways
First person to delete the hard drive gets a gold star

wall: cannot open file LOLlol: No such file or directory
@IanCarroll trully, that VPS is dead

Can you do ls?

nope
nothing

10:36 PM
it says "The void"

I have an idea.
Why don't I just spawn an EC2 spot instance for this chat to screw with?

I'd have to disable rm though... lol

Guys gotta go. Cooking. @IanCarroll happy you solved the issue. @jrg @Seth take care friends.
@IanCarroll lol yeah

Still missing Internet, but still :D
Honestly though, how can I reconfigure the network settings?

jrg
10:55 PM
@Seth meta away!
because i'm not sure what the best course of action is.

Does anyone else see the ball bouncing?

11:26 PM
@NathanOsman me

Great.

@NathanOsman not working here (chrome)
