If someone knows a site where I can paste a link and it shows me the PHP code, I will be happy :)

The PHP code for what?

@Lucio PHP code for... what?

12:21 AM
Can anyone else access nbglive.com ?
I sure hope so :S

Yup.
Loads fine for me.

Marco fixed it

So now you can do this:
Variant v;
v.setValue<int>(12);
v.setValue<std::string>("abcdefg");

Argh. Raring hates my graphics card.
Quantal worked though... Which makes it weird
And additional drivers refuses to change drivers.
There we go.

I can't get Unity to work for the life of me.
It won't start with any of the drivers.
And the plugin is enabled in CCSM

i'm so sorry @Seth - it's sort of sad that it works on my tablet and not your desktop :P

Q: Novice Ubuntu 12.04 user needs help!

user37681I'm new to Unix/Linux and someone suggested I try Ubuntu. I like it but I can't figure a couple of things out and don't really have time to google up ways to solve the problem. Answers from a quick search were so confusing. Can someone provide me with a straightforward set of instructions with ea...

It's actually a laptop.. And it worked in Quantal. I have a feeling a broke something else.

fair enough. i just couldn't contain my snark

2:28 AM
No your fine @CallmeV :)

so i've been wondering about putting slightly tweaked kernel checksums in to keyslots for luks partition on a tablet (build in something random so your kernel doesn't produce the same checksum as everyone else's). seems like an interesting way to perform kernel validation (luks doesn't mount your data if you swap out the kernel type of thing) and just slap in whatever login mechanic you want

How can I view the list of running processes from the TTY?

ps

ps aux
...and then grep to filter.

Ok. Lemme try

2:38 AM
@NathanOsman just ps a should be enough...yes?

No, it will only display the stuff running in the current TTY IIRC.
$ ps
  PID TTY          TIME CMD
24391 pts/8    00:00:00 bash
24446 pts/8    00:00:00 ps
That's all I get if I enter it into a terminal.

me too. ps aux works better.

yes ax... the a lists more, but the x is everything not parented to a terminal

Well I'm going to reinstall Ubuntu now.

good luck... i'm turning on a tv show

2:47 AM
Why isn't my constructor getting invoked??????
This is one of the most bizarre bugs I've ever seen.

@CallmeV Have fun.

hey all, I just received an answer to my question in main that has piqued my curiosity of something. Is there a command which tells you which partition the currently running ubuntu os is on?

@Seth Yeah, I think it is spam.

@JohnMerlino I'm sure there is a way you could figure that out.

@Seth you know the command?
sudo parted -l just lits the partitions
df -h just gives you information about usage of the currently mouinted drives on the partition

2:58 AM
@JohnMerlino I myself don't.

actually df was correct
silly me
df will output all the currently mounted drives on the filesystem in use. one of those is root partition
thats the current partition

Aha! There we go.

df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdb5 237270720 21995616 203222368 10% /
udev 1543276 4 1543272 1% /dev

none 5120 0 5120 0% /run/lock
none 1551172 552 1550620 1% /run/shm
you see that the current partition is sdb
that was supposed to be my storage drive
guided install screwed up
now i have to reinstall and do it manually

I just had to do a reinstall myself.

3:35 AM
would you install the default LAMP server when setting up a new installation even if you never have any intention to use PHP. I will use apache and mysql but never php.

@Lucio That is not possible by definition.
The server (usually) withholds the PHP code entirely and only sends the interpreter's final output buffer. Without file access on the server, you won't get the raw PHP.

5:10 PM
Although with PHP's security record, you might be able to...

@NathanOsman Well, there are instances of the interpreter flat-out refusing to run.
Then there's also settings to allow remote file reading ...
But generally speaking, it shouldn't work at all.

Alright. So I've got a dell inspiron 1100. When I try to install Lubuntu 12.10, It install sjust fine, except for the resolution. The resolution s 600x480, and only displays in the top left-hand corner. Same issue occurs when I install Fedora, OPENSuse, Linux Mint, and even Ubuntu 12.10. I've been googling, and my results are all resolved with /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which isn't anywhere to be found. The other thing is that When I use the Live CD, it displays just fine.
I really perfer linux to windows, can somebody help me resolve this and display the full 1024x768? Again it's a dell inspiron 1100, Intel i845 processor, BIOS A32, 120gb Hard Drive, 768 mb ram, and currently I have windows xp installed with SP3. Someone please help.

xorg.conf was removed from linux but when you create it it will use it

So How would I create Xorg.conf to correctly display linux on my monitor with the CORRECT resolution?

it will use it even if it's wrong, so be careful.

yeah it's tricky :)

But you can delete it with no no harm in case it's bad.

6:11 PM
Can someone provide me with a correct Xorg.conf for my laptop?

by the way when I use my 2nd screen and reboot I sometimes also get a quarter of my screen

@Rinzwind not the slightest clue, but it may come from old keyboards where the arrow commands were done with letters...
Like today when we use WASD ;)
I am old but not that old

Thou shall not select in Terminal!

7:32 PM
@Rinzwind This is the VT100 escape code for Shift-up. It also happens in the tty: type 'read', 'enter', then simply 'up'
Typing Shift-A sends ^[[1;2A to the terminal, but the terminal only displays what he wants, terminal emulators only display A - not sure why exactly
Typing 'up' sends ^[[A, but the terminal knows what to do with it (up in history)
(I meant "Typing Shift-up", not "Typing Shift-A", sorry)
old terminals used such escape codes to control special on-screen operations - terminal emulators were designed to be compatible with such terminals - the key <-> escape code is described in terminfo nowadays

Hi

I am not sure just what I am doing wrong, or if I parse things wrongly at askubuntu.com/questions/284640/…
So I though I drop into chat rather than go comment on comment on comment.

Oh, right
@Hennes Yes!
let me explain it
When you have a link like yours (with the http signature), copy all the whole link
then you have to add a title for that link
let says "this question"
Then you will put the title inside this: [ ]
en the link inside this: ( )

I saw the [basic links](http://example.com) example

9:29 PM
all without space
@Hennes Right!
yes

But I keep forgetting it and dfoing things (like this)(link) or [foo][bar]

also you can just past the link (purely)

Using just the url also works, so I sometimes fall back on that

@Hennes I had that problem too (before)

@Hennes Markdown sure takes some time getting used to.
