@BrunoPereira can you club all the poor tags together?
bug, crash, slow, freeze etc

@jokerdino not a good idea, SE wants discussion per tag based and voted as such

holy molly I am mad

if you group it makes it hard to see which are really bad and which are so and so

before it gets blacklisted, synonymize all those poor tags then? xD

lol :D

When do tags with zero questions disappear...if ever?

The empty tags will be removed automatically after 24 hours by the system, don't worry about them — Tim Yi Jiang Nov 17 '11 at 2:20
not sure if that is the case.

I see that is going to perish. what should i use with problem like that.

Q: Why does starting a program log me out?

Bruce McKeanI'm not a computer nerd but have been able to fix Ubuntu/Linux problems in the pass two years with a Google search but this on has me stumped. I upgraded to 12.04 about thirty days ago and all was well except that every time I tried to load KeePassX it would go to the login screen. I installed ...

the login tag does not clear the matter, i think

hey aking. I have a request for you.

I'm listening

Is it possible to use the SE api and obtain a list of questions that have no votes, no answers and is not closed and the OP has less than 5 rep?

@AnwarShah It has been asked, but I don't know if it was in chat or not
@jokerdino You mean the query language? Or are there python bindings or something...

9:14 AM
query language may be?
i was wondering if it is possible to generate such lists.

@jokerdino that would take too much requests

may be data.SE then :/

yeah

@jokerdino i don't see user rep listed as an accessible attribute in that schema

ah
looks so messy

9:19 AM
It seems I can remove my votes after long period of time which was not possible before, is it normal ?

@AnwarShah you can remove if the post was edited in between

oh, someone must have edited in in between.
pfft. JINX

:P

Also wondering, how much rep do i need to approve suggested edits?

technically 2k. but you get the queue only at 5k
@aking1012 i think i can probably do a live search and manually filter the OP's rep?

Q: Glade: How do I add a Notebook to a Box in a VBox?

njallamI have created an empty box in Glade to add a Notebook to. The reason I am not adding the actual Notebook in Glade is because I hear that you cannot add pages to a Notebook made in Glade. So, in Glade I have created a Box in an empty slot in a VBox. The code I am running is: self.box = self.b...

he went off to game

It's the no context, but I need drop in code that works thing...

he thinks that is the relevant code bit.
but i disagree

It very well may be, but it's that someone is saying "This line doesn't work" and you can't see the surrounding code at all.

i feel your concern.
@AnwarShah you can just remove that scope ; apt-get remove unity-scope-video-remote
just saying something to see my global rep
yo @AmithKK are you going through that query?

If you have 2 very good answers, which one would you choose?

if you are given that is?

Yes

i think it depends.
if both of them are equally good, i would be inclined to give it to the earliest answer.

Upvote one, select the other, post a comment to that effect on both

@jokerdino Unfortunately, they both have the same exact time

Q: Is it okay to send old questions to doom?

jokerdinoGiven this context: If the question is more than 30 days old, and ... has -1 or lower score has no answers is not locked ... it will be automatically deleted. I have downvoted some 30-odd questions that are quite old (more than 3 months or so), have no votes, no answers and not close...

Sending questions to doom. For seriouz.

@jokerdino, after i clicked on the link, i saw many all questions has 1 votes. what about them

sort by votes
sort by votes and start from pg 40

yes, many have one 1 votes. are you willing to delete questions from OP with rep below 5 ?
or willing to force the rule general

i am not sure. i only see zero vote questions.

this is 42th page. askubuntu.com/…

yeah. i ran out of votes for the day.

there are many questions with 1 votes

@izx thanks for taking a ride

11:27 AM
@AnwarShah let me know if you have any questions.

I wanted to ask, what will happen to those questions with 1 votes because at page 40 I see many 1 voted answers

that search doesn't have any answers at all.

again, typo, I mean 1 voted questions

i sorted it by votes and started from where the questions have no votes at all

but is generally agree with the idea, if the questions is : old + below -1 votes + no answers , it deserve deletion

11:30 AM
that deletion is done by the script. not my work
i am just feeding more questions for the script to delete

the problem was in the option , I had "30 questions per page" option selected

ah

@jokerdino Script?
How did you get write access with the api?

i didn't write. the SE engine has a script

I also wonder that?
so, if a question has -1 votes, the SE script will delete that, right?
after enough delay

11:32 AM
yeah

and you are spending all your down boats to do that!!!

yeah
i downvoted some 35 questions today

what about if some questions are good, bad got - votes by chance

Be careful @jokerdino

@AnwarShah not my problem :D

11:34 AM
then agreed, delete that question.

@AmithKK i posted on MSO

if the questioner ever wanted an answer, he can ask again. I am going to vote the proposal

great

@jokerdino, but you can fix the link

not sure how I can do that.

11:37 AM
by replacing this page=40&tab with page=40&pagesize=15&tab
@jokerdino i think 15 is the default, or you can edit to include the info that, they have to choose "50 questions per page" options to see the questions

i'll edit. thanks

You got 10*10=100 rep with that single question. congrats !

No. only 50 rep.
And I edited the link. Check now?

oh, yes, that was a question, hmm, greatly working

FritteAs already mentioned, a VGA splitter won´t solve your problems. But you can give dualhead2go a try.

^Dupe Answer^

No. It's not

12:05 PM
Really, cause it is solving nothing

dualhead2go is awesome...so is triplehead2go. have you ever used one?

The link provided is a Windows & Mac solution and couldn't solve the problem for hardware reasons

I wanted to edit this, but unable to understand what he is asking askubuntu.com/q/74270/61218

bbl

@njallam A solution is to get a piece of hardware called a dualhead2go. It is a valid solution (as is upgrade your ram for some questions).

The questioner admits that it is a dupe, but still alive askubuntu.com/q/110341/61218, why?

OH, it's counting up!
@AnwarShah The other question is closed for being unclear.

12:15 PM
@njallam, yes, seen that
I still do not know, what are the review Q/A. some are very good and answered as well

@aking1012 are you there

i am

@aking1012 regarding the response on my question, what was wrong with the code I had posted in the question?

i can't tell without context. which is why i posted such a long answer. it's a fully functional example

But if I have an existing VBox, how do I add stuff created in Python to it?

12:19 PM
@aking1012 i am trying to follow this example developer.ubuntu.com/resources/app-developer-cookbook/…
but
def on_openbutton_clicked(self, widget, data=None):
print "OPEN"

wont print anything in the terminal

@tachyons Have you done self.openbutton = self.builder.get_object("openbutton") ?

@tachyons I don't use the on_something_clicked thing and have Gtk.Builder guess. I specify the callback in Glade.

@njallam no ,

@tachyons Do that after it says "#Finish Initialising" or something like that. At the end of the first method

@njallam I can't see such a code in the tutorial

12:24 PM
@tachyons Well I don't know then, I used Jono's tutorials

@njallam link to jono's tutorial please

@tachyons have you looked at the completed code to see if you understand it when it's done? it's here bazaar.launchpad.net/~rick-rickspencer3/%2Bjunk/simple-player/…
it's for gtk not Gtk though

@aking1012 yup , It is wriiten in 11.04

Try and use the gi.repository.Gtk for any future projects.

12:29 PM
i don't think you can do simple-media as well in Gtk. I think the python gstreamer lib still depends on gobject. gobject and Gobject aren't compatible

what is diff between def openbutton_clicked_event(self, widget, data=None): and def on_openbutton_clicked(self, widget, data=None):

what line # are you looking at

One of them relies on signals being sent to the listener from glade and the other (on) waits for the signal

it was my understanding one was the older naming convention from when you named things manually and the other is how you connect things if you want Builder to be able to guess from item names

Yea, what @aking1012 said

12:33 PM
@aking1012 you mean that tutorial wont work in newer versions of ubuntu ?

i haven't worked through it, but it's my guess that it won't due to the gobject Gobject conflict <-- this only applies if you're trying to translate it to Gtk

@tachyons No, it's just being deprecated. It will still work for the considerable future, but is not recommended in case.

@tachyons yeah, the fellow with the question about what to do when you remove ntfs-3g from a wubi install...smh

Wait, does he have a dupe question there?
Nope, he just answered 2 dupe questions

12:38 PM
@njallam as I've pointed out in chat, comments, and answers...if you want programming help you need to provide context, not just error messages. it's like trying to repair a car with the hood welded shut

@aking1012 OK, sure.
brb, Lunch

@aking1012 i think this guy is also from kerala
@njallam Thanks , That tutorial is to be updated ,Currently It is the featured tutorial in developer.ubuntu.com , @jonobacon please update it

Q: Can I upgrade from Xubuntu Feisty (7.04) to Precise (12.04)?

MarianoI'm trying to upgrade from xUbuntu 7.04 to the latest LTS. Here i've read: If you are using Xubuntu 8.04 “Hardy Heron” or newer, you can upgrade your system using the update manager. So that infos are not suitable for my case. What can I do to upgrade?

@tachyons never mind. i realized using Win 7 was better

@izx clean install recommendation

@aking1012 Yeah, I thought so too...although in theory an LTS jump should work once he gets to 8.04->10.04>12.04

A: Can I upgrade from Xubuntu Feisty (7.04) to Precise (12.04)?

MitchYou would need to do a sequential upgrade (from 7.04 to 7.10 to 8.04 to ect..). If you are using Xubuntu 8.04 or newer, you can upgrade your system using the update manager.1 See here So you either do a sequential upgrade to 8.04, or i you would like to skip all this, then you would hav...

@jokerdino why ?

@izx and then end up with a massive cruft among others

izx
@tachyons I have no idea what Mitch's c&p answer means

@izx in theory it should, but i watch dist-upgrades and my eyes would bleed from watching that many.

1:08 PM
@tachyons why not?

izx
(I'm interested in it as an academic question, not that I'd recommend it to my worst enemy)

I think it is better to suggest a fresh install

Q: How do I apply the Unity theme to LibreOffice on Kubuntu?

tachyonsI installed Kubuntu 11.10 and installed Unity on it. But still LibreOffice follows the KDE icon theme . How do I get Ubuntu's default icon theme in LibreOffice?

any idea ?

at least 13 people have agreed that it is okay to send old questions and no one has disagreed to it.
@tachyons it doesn't happen in 12.04

@tachyons I think there should be two CW answers (both correct) one with the upgrade steps clearly laid out, one with "just reinstall". and the just reinstall should be heavily upvoted, while the upgrade path should be heavily downvoted

i had unity and installed kubuntu on it.
@aking1012 evillish. lol

1:13 PM
It would express that one is a bad idea

yes it will
@tachyons may be try installing ubuntu-desktop

@jokerdino I already installed ubuntu-desktop package

don't know then.
may be try resetting KDE to default settings?

That's more than going from Windows 3.1 to Windows 8! Since the 7.x releases are no longer supported, you will have t...

@AnwarShah no idea. i am throwing it to the packaging gurus.

@izx mysql broke on upgrade to 12.04 initially...is that still the case?

@izx wait what? not sure what we are talking about.
@izx that is only when I try to be funny :p
@aking1012 i thought they fixed it already o.O

they may have, it's just a widely deployed package that would have served as a good example
you technically can't do a proper leapfrog upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04 by default until it hits 12.04.1 anyway right?

ah, i now follow your line of thinking.
you can probably force upgrade though.

1:34 PM
you can, there's even a question on site about it

izx
@aking1012 No, it's doable now if you force it with -d from the CLI IIRC?

yeah, but you have to force it. it doesn't just happen

@AnwarShah are you now packaging it? thanks man!

@AnwarShah up to you actually. if you think you can, go ahead and package it.

How do I set the Notebook tab position. What is the new constant for gi.repository.Gtk?

@aking1012 What is the constant for Tab Position Right on Notebook widgets

I suspect they kept the same names for all the constants. developer.gnome.org/gtk/2.24/…

@aking1012 nope it's not Gtk.POS_RIGHT

why don't you just set that in glade and use the get method then print to find out what the constant is

I could but I don't want to screw up my Glade file as it is perfect now

izx
1:50 PM
So @njallam, will you continue gracing us with your presence once you hit 200? :P

how can i force set password less that 6 chars.?

@izx Actually 200 is my current goal

plug that in and see if it works

Nope, "AttributeError: 'gi.repository.Gtk' object has no attribute 'RIGHT'

I know it is the equivalent of 1
I just wanted to use the proper constant
