not that it's a nice device in the first place, their python port is pretty crippled and unmaintained. so I'm a sucker... I'll probably have to take a leaf out of your book and buy an android phone

Something I don't understand, with phones being this powerful, surely someone must've thought of putting together a very basic linux os and just running a stripped down Gnome desktop
Quite a few of the older applications (ported over from the older Nokia tablets) are native GTK so yeah... Very capable little phone, if a little slow compared to the very newest

@OctavianDamiean Yeah it makes me look like I'm an international cookie smuggler but my pockets are actually pretty clean most of the time... I don't know where it all comes from.
@lazyPower I give it a clean every time I open her up (and that's a few times a week - usually out of boredom) but it looks like the photos within minutes.

I know ubuntu 11.04 is at beta stage at the moment, but with unity 2d, it feels like an alpha release. If I simply switch through 3-4 apps, the whole thing crashes and I have to hard-reboot...

it'll bring up the monitor's application which you can then change your resolution.
however, if you have GNU Screen installed, make sure you aren't launching that.... i did that a few times and couldnt figureout wtf i was doing wrong :P
@oshirowanen that makes more sense, you need to install the virtualbox guest additions (it's somewhere in the virtual machine's main menu). And you need to configure your machine for 3d support
@StefanoPalazzo Yes, so basically, trying to get full screen resolution in virtualbox, but even after installing the guest addition, I am not getting full screen. just 1024x768
@RolandTaylor on the development side of things (and you can always shut off gnome shell), gnome 3 is pretty awesome drools, I can't wait to get it in ubuntu
I know it's not a solution, but, if you have a USB key somewhere, download the latest image at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ open up the USB startup disk creator from the Administration menu, hit 'erase disk', select as much as possible of extra space and click 'make startup disk'. It' *much much* nicer than virtualbox I'm using a USB disk every day to develop software for Unity, it's a pretty rocking way to run Unity.
@MarcoCeppi if it is, I'm enraged they didn't even bother to check the basic assertions made in the email. First, "I've seen your blog", then "Don't forget to tell me where your blog is", and of course, I don't have one... That's not a good strategy if you want people to work for nothing.
I followed the instructions for compiling the Gnome 3 Shell and it did compiled with a few errors here and there but it didn't run. I installed Gnome 3 Shell using sudo apt-get install gnome-shell but I got version 2.31.x but the latest is 2.91.5 or something. So is there a way for me to install ...

@JoshuaRobison a tip. If you have a problem and you have information for you'd like to share which is on another site, then just post the important part in the question and link to the site. Just posting a link to sites that there is something related to your question won't get you very far as not everyone is willing to go through another site to get all information he needs to help you
