@Chris I thought of that too; that is a valid close reason. Had it been closed for that reason, I would not have brought it up. My feeling is that if I take a chance on answering a close-worthy question, and it gets closed, that's just the way the cookie crumbles. I might try adding research to the question if I cared. But opinion based? I just don't see it.
Sometimes, when one person votes to close, people then close, clicking the same reason. That makes closings confusing and contradictory.
If a question is close worthy (and this one was, for lack of showing work), we should close. I have no problem with that, none at all. But it should be based on the right reason, applied consistently.
Otherwise meta gets clogged with "Why was my question closed" type-posts.
Ok, that is what I meant when I said we need some correction atleast. However it is true that I do not have much experience in this as I have done no personal research at anything
Anyway guys I have work, have to write records. Will take 8 to 9 hours in the hospital. See you. And sorry again if I seemed arrogant @anongoodnurse. I will be courteous in the future. Maybe we can talk in the chat if I have any questions, if I find you around!
@anongoodnurse I think we still work on being consistent with that. The problem is that we haven't found our red line here and there is a number of people voting which have different opinions. Nothing bad, but makes this more difficult.
There are some questions which I know should be closed. It is not possible to answer such vague questions but they did not get sufficient close votes
Whereas there are some closures which may be unjust (too big a word for it).
But I think if the OP is really interested to find an answer then they'll work on it.
My question is why should others make an effort when you yourself have not done it. This is wrt homework.

But with diverse fields of biology people have different ways of thinking and that may cause difference of opinions. However I think we raise arguments in meta and sort things out. This forum is going healthy
@Chris Do you think we have a serious problem here?
I was discussing with anongoodnurse yesterday about why this site needs a "homework close" option
because in stackoverflow, to even ask a question one has to know something about programming. Even then sometimes they are harsh. For example I made a typo in a fortran script and was breaking my head over the compiler error. I thought there is something wrong with how I have written the code (I am new to fortran). Seems it was just a typo. I get 2 downvotes and since there is an upvoted answer I cant even delete the post. I just have to live with it :P
@MarchHo moreover t-test is used for intersample testing. OP is interested in finding the genes that have greatest variance. t-test is not used for this purpose
