4:00 PM
I don't want to give it a view sorry
Copy it to pastebin if you really want me to read it lol

user4704
I think that article demonstrates the author isn't really writing a valid critique in the first paragraph.

user4704
So I closed it.

It's constrained to one specific incident rather than viewing the site as a whole.

user4704
Yeah, it's just a rant.

I agree with it partly

user4704
4:03 PM
There's certainly valid critiques to make of both SO and the SE model, but that article doesn't really do a great job by immediately invoking Nazis.

lol!
You guys are making me want to open it and laugh at the guy now

There's a couple of valid points but it's extremely ranty, and the main point of the article isn't really a valid critique
also UGH waiting on automated tests to run

@MickLH Open it you bore!

Busy porting my network code to use Crypto++
I did all the crypto manually with libGMP before, but I wouldn't want to ship that

Jon
Why crypto? Why not just use plaintext

4:07 PM
@Jon I use plaintext where I can, but I still need to authenticate the source
People just rely on TCP to authenticate the source, but that's sketchballs
You know how easy it is to spoof a link level packet? It's so easy you literally don't have to do it.
There is no true "source" field, it's a "return address" field.

Jon
Probably just as easy as blaming the dog

But I'd be the dog still in this situation, I think

@MickLH lmao
if it is something I can understand. I am not that smart to understand "algorithm" though.

It's just more graphics stuff like you did earlier :P

If you can't understand algorithms, you may have a problem
sup Oliver

4:10 PM
I like graphic stuff

That's fair
> likes graphic stuff
> still uses a default Gravatar
then again it does fit your username

It could help your bunny appear to have lifelike skin and crisp reflections in the eyes
+extra credit if you get TressFX in there

Jon
Ohhhh credit

And that's not all, also I will give you propers
Mad propers.

Jon
Can he also get exposure

4:14 PM
Idk about that I think I need to take all the credit
jk ofc that's mostly what "propers" are

Jon
Is that slang for fluffers?

I'll take a fluffer
As long as it's not a fluffer nutter

Do you mean slang like "ebonics", or is slang itself ebonics for "sell"?

Jon
Slang as in that alien dude from Mac and me

lol... the WTF increases steadily

4:19 PM
I like it. Let me jump into the work process. I will work like a chimp chained in a cubicle with passion day and night with no food, for a promise of zero recognition from other beings and trashy treatment.

Jon
You actually a chick

I might have gone too far

I'm kind 1/2 a girl
does that count?

Jon
Marry him

As long as you can just throw me some graphic stuff, I will be happy. Use me like how you would use a toilet paper. If it is what it takes, I can extract the Y chromosome from my DNA; I will go through gene therapy for you.

4:21 PM
Ok as long as you get that chromosome out <3

Jon
Ohhhh now I'm interested in blue bug after that toilet paper reveal

I have an extra chromosone

Sie
@BlueBug Go crazy: blendswap.com

@BlueBug Can I just send you scanned PDFs instead of shipping the hardcover?

Sure do it however you like it. I am dirty and cheap when it comes to... graphic. iopzxz@gmail.com

4:23 PM
Is lowbrow a synonym of homophobic ?

Jon
Sounds like java
Was iopzyz taken?

JAVA WOO
JAVA WOO

the combination of email address was taken due to the keyboard arrangement. It is a typical korean account; a random comb of letters.

Ooh I don't have to scan one of them, much easier for me, this is already going good!

Jon
Wait you are Korean.

4:27 PM
ex "I am gjkosf44. My friend slslgnbcl4949 invited cljhwy5 and me to play some Overwatch."

Jon
You in SK?

now in Rochester NY I move around.

This is next up on my list but I've been so focused on stuff other than graphics

this is culling. This is not graphic.

But it ball so hard though, sir.
Word to your moms, it came to drop bombs. And it has more efficiency than the bible has got psalms.

Jon
4:31 PM
He be ballin

You betrayed my expectation @MickLH now(eventually) you will pay for it

Fine! Do the cascade shadow maps
But as punishment you don't get the PDF
You have to invent it yourself

Jon
I have a copy

shakes in anger, bite lips to contain oneself you... monster...

Also, the way my engine architecture works causes performance and graphics quality to be married
The graphics quality is a slider between [24 - 60 (VSync)] fps
It uses time available to refine the worst approximations until the frame is due

Jon
4:35 PM
If (you==understand) {info('hired');}
Taken from a job posting. Lol

DH.
Man, they are desperate

user4704
I am understand.

There are three ways to get good developers:

1. Care about your code.
2. Pay decently well.
3. Free beer and soda at work.
I guess that boils down to two:

1. Care about your code.
2. Care about your developers.

Jon
4. Let them work from home.

DH.
I'm not so sure about the 3, I would say that free coffee is enough

4:41 PM
* free beer may be subject to free pizza obligations

Beer, tea, coffee, soda, sparkling water
All of which are present at my job

Jon
Sparkling lol

Does it fuckin glitter though bruh?

LaCroix has its roots into several of our developers
Speaking of pizza, it's almost lunchtime

Jon
Does your pizza pizazz?

4:43 PM
Not really, if we were in Chicago though...
Damn Milwaukee and having the least interesting culinary traditions

Jon
You should see acadian cuisine
Make as much food with least amount of money possible

Beer, brats, hot ham and rolls, cheese curds, paczki

Sie
@JoshPetrie Over time the chat made poor Josh's mind melt and eventually he could no longer string together coherent sentences.

Jon
We take potatoes and grind them all up, then reshape them into potato shapes with pork inside the middle
Then we boil it until it looks like snot
Poutine

Sie
What a time to be alive.

4:45 PM
Our culinary backgrounds throughout the city are primarily Polish and German.

Jon
Google it. Acadian poutine

That's not real poutine.

Anyone here bulding games the old fashioned way using OpenGL or DX directly?

Real poutine has fries and brown gravy
and cheese curds.
afk lunch

Jon
This is a real poutine

Sie
4:47 PM
That looks like something my cat puked up this morning.

Jon
It has the consistency of snot, and tastes like paper

@Jon that looks disgusting
but then so does stew

... is it wrong of me to think that looks like a delicious asian dumpling.

Sie
Yes. For having a different opinion you are automatically wrong.

Jon
It seriously doesn't taste like dumpling

4:51 PM
sorry... I will try to consume more public medias...

Jon
Some Asians eat wheat glutton

@Jon ew

Jon

"delicious"

Jon
A Chinese girl I work with loves this stuff

4:54 PM
tmi

DH.
What the hell is this

Jon
Wheat gluten
They make it look like duck meat

my favorite food is steamed lung of pigs.
It is... not so cheap since an animal has only two lungs.

Jon
Considering organs are usually ground up and used as hotdog meat

DH.
I thought sausages used chicken meat
Or are they mixing up everything?

Jon
4:59 PM
Everything they can't sell as meat

DH.
Ah much like hamburgers then

@Jon When do you call something an organ and not simply some not so relevant part of your body?

Jon
Ehhh
If it makes a squish sound when squeezed and is larger than an egg
Medically speaking
"you have really nice tits, medically speaking of course."

I feed them from time to time

user4704
At first glance I'd think the right thing to do is edit it to make it appropriate, mainly to cut out all the code and focus on the conceptual problem.

user4704
Maybe that kind of drastic edit is not quite fair with the bounty though?

+ 50 bounty is nothing

The bounty was put on before there was any code, which was linked to on some other SO question
Really not sure about it. It's kind of a mess

bounty should have min 100, cuz "bounty"

user4704
5:19 PM
Hmm.

Jon
He did improve the question but it is still a mess. Now it is two questions mashed into each other
Anyways you are gonna have to write the whole thing to help

user4704
I dunno, if he just wants to know "why does my delete function not delete objects" I think that's pretty straightforward.

Dammit, I ended up getting poutine with my lunch today
Thanks, guys

user4704
I don't think I'm quite willing to refund-and-close this unilaterally. There's only one close vote.

Jon
Hahahaha

user4704
5:23 PM
If there were more, or more intention to do so were the bounty not in place, maybe.

user4704
But I think it may be salvageable if he responds favorably to further clarification.

user4704
All that downvote chatter is pointless though, I'll nuke that.

I tried to close vote but it won't let me because there's a bounty
the bounty got put on before it could accumulate many close votes.

user4704
Thanks.

Also, with my poutine (which is way too soggy for my liking, despite the seasoning being perfect), I got what is called a Cheezy Joe
It's sloppy joe meat (ie. homemade Manwich) in a grilled cheese.

user4704
5:27 PM
Right. But somebody could still comment that they would vote to close. I don't think I'd be comfortable making the unilateral vote.

ok thanks for taking a look at it :)

@ShotgunNinja Heart attack combo!

So nevermind on ECDSA guys, it doesn't improve throughput over plain (GF)DSA so I'm just going with what I understand better
Also changing extremely important security parameters at the last minute seems like a bad idea in general

5:43 PM
@AlexandreVaillancourt It's so good, though
Definitely an evolution of something cobbled together from leftovers
but I think that's the true Wisconsin food legacy
"We make leftovers."
Leftover brats, leftover sandwiches, cheese, chicken, casseroles

lol

Day old pizza

@ShotgunNinja It must be good, you're absolutely right :P

We're not quite preservative-heavy like the climatically similar Korean peninsula
but we do have a nice jarring and pickling culture

But it would give me instant regrets :P

5:47 PM
Malted Milk was invented just south of here, in Racine, WI
basically as a nutritious additive, like Whey Protein powder
We serve Nutritional Yeast leftover from the brewing process on our movie theater popcorn

That makes healthier popcorn?

Nah, it just tastes different
Nutritional Yeast is high in glutamates, which are responsible for umami flavors
it's got far less sodium and gives it a bit of a funky, almost meaty taste
almost like ramen or miso

Ah, ok, so they kind of replace the salt with that or something?

Yeah, it's a sprinklable beige-colored coarse powder

I'd like to taste that someday!

5:51 PM
Not everyone likes it, but I think it's cool.
I also eat hot kimchi by itself.
YMMV
You should be able to find it at Wal-Mart
or Trader Joe's or whatnot

I'll keep a eye out for that!
An eye open! Or something :)

Don't put your eye out

Jon
why not?

No, right ;P
No glass eye here so..

It's hard to get back in

Jon
6:03 PM
a glass eye?
that is propostorous, its easy to put a glass eye back into place as it is tailor made for your socket

I don't have that, so I won't keep my eye out.

Jon
6:34 PM
brought up that I made games as a hobby to my lawnmower guy
awkward silence

hahah
one guy (who didn't have a job) made fun of me for playing games. His girlfriend was a programmer at ubisoft (she was on tools though). She left him eventually.

Jon
lmao

@Almo So what was that guy doing? Watching TV all day?

Jon
programmer women are hard to please, they see right through your flawed bullshit logic

@Jon They're challenging sometimes :P

6:39 PM
I don't know, honestly what he was doing

@Almo Cuz guys I knew who didn't have a job were usually playing games all day :P

hehehe he probably was not playing games all day

"I'm investing, at the casino" :P

:D

Unfortunately, that's the way of thinking of a lot of people. (Fortunately for public treasury, though :P)

6:49 PM
Oh man, trying to draft a new food blog post
This shit writes itself
This place is operated by Chef Justin Carlisle, who was a James Beard finalist (and I think winner now, too)
He owns Ardent, a restaurant in downtown Milwaukee, tucked under an old apartment building
but at midnight, the place used to transform into Red Light Ramen.
They'd invite the first few people to show up into the kitchen, where they'd make traditional Japanese tonkatsu ramen
The place caught on like wildfire, and they expanded it into a food truck
Despite a few setbacks, they've been extremely successful

Deepchord says he feels CD format is too tight and wants to put out 12-hour albums on USB memory

and now they bought the next space over in their building, and set up a permanent location

his last album was a double disc

lol people still use CD's?

I don't understand food trucks. Average food quality, with a limited meal variety, at at higher price...

6:55 PM
Convenience?

Q: How to make texture size correctly in THREE.js?

narawagamesI'm new to THREE.js and I have a frustrating problem. I can't get my grass texture to size "normally" on the terrain. I get it, the terrain is steep, but that doesn't mean the grass should be stretched as well! I don't want the textures to scale, resize, stretch, or distort. I want the text...

That's the only reason. But here they can't park anywhere they want, they're limited to specific locations.

@TheMuffinCoder my macpro doesn't have a CD drive, so I don't anymore.
iPhone 7 may ship without a 3.5 inch headphone jack
Apple likes deleting shit
first iMac no floppy drive people all like OH GOD OH GOD

@Almo Lol!
How will you use it hands-free?
That doesn't make sense!

by using bluetooth or wifi headphones
apparently they registered the trademark "AirPods" or something
also, they can use the lightning port to output audio if you want a wire
gets them thinner phone, and more battery space

7:01 PM
Well I'd be damned if I could not plug my phone out into my Sonos In...
(I don't use an iPhone, but my wife does). She'll be pissed off if this happens..

if she gets an iPhone 7, that is
my guess is there will be a lightning-to-little-box-to-3.5-inch-jack thing

Probably; will look ugly though :P
Not sure she'll get an iPhone 7, but she'll eventually get a new iPhone. (I guess. I don't think she'll go Android.)

woo, just added Chef Carlisle on Facebook
asked him for a brief interview

haha yeah :)
cool SN

He's probably going to be all like, "Nah, this guy is just some microblogger, I get to be in the Journal Sentinel."
but maybe, hopefully, it gets put together

7:07 PM
@ShotgunNinja do you expect a 'scratch my back and I'll scratch yours' type of thing? (Being featured on his page?)

Not really, I just want to be able to talk with him. If he shares it, I'd be delighted.
Like, I've got a couple of followers, thanks mostly to Reddit and stuff
but I'm no food expert, by far.
I just really love my city.
I want others to know about the things that make it great.

Jon
you make it great

blush

Jon
with your ninja skills and your shotgun

Jon
7:12 PM
you know if you ever get sued for copyright infringement... couldn't you countersue for copyright infringement?

lol "no u"

@ShotgunNinja Cool :)

He agreed to the interview! Now we just have to settle on a time.

Jon
don't screw it up man

7:21 PM
I'm gonna try picking up a voice recorder so I don't miss a word

Don't just try :P
You could use your smartphone!

Sie
^

@Almo That's a good idea, that format actually has the potential to actually IO professional grade audio (unlike a built-in 3.5 jack in any computer system)

Sie
My premade level rooms are starting to feel cramped :/.

DH.
What's wrong with it?

Jon
7:27 PM
feels cramped

@Sie What if you made them feel less cramped?

Sie
Ye

DH.
Saying "feel cramped" is just too broad, no wonder Mick is trolling him

Woah, @DH I'm just asking man! not trolling

DH.
Joking maybe?

Sie
7:32 PM
Mick? Nah he is always 100%$ sincere ;).
I trust him.

I was actually wondering though, what would it do to your game to make them less cramped
Like asking yourself carefully when cramped might be a good or bad thing

Sie
Probably just rescaling and moving some shit around. No biggie.

Key word "carefully"

DH.
aka "don't fuck it up"

Feels matter. All dem lil' feels doe.

Jon
7:36 PM
Feelsgoodman
Dr feelsgoodman at your service
You need a shot of lead. Trust me I'm a doctor.

DH.
7:54 PM
Lead is heavy, that can be a killing shot

omg, more WKUK fans
oh wait, you're from America's hat

Jon
link dude to a spec
dude posts spriteBatch.Draw(mainMenuIndexSpr, new Vector2(89, 18), null, Color.White, 0, Vector2.Zero, 1, SpriteEffects.None, -100000f);
I was specific about the layerdepth param, that he put -100000

do they require WKUK viewing in primary school yet?

Jon
Type: Single -- The depth of a layer. By default, 0 represents the front layer and 1 represents a back layer.
Directly from the spec I linked.

8:06 PM
@Jon Does it not implicit-cast from float to single?

Jon
8:17 PM
Yes

8:40 PM
There's a new Danish actor in the season finale of Game of Thrones.
His English is so bad, they had him dubbed ...
It's Frank Hvam in case you're curious.

user4704
Oh yeah.

user4704
I thought that guys lines sounded odd.

user4704
I liked his scene though.

Yeah, it was a pretty good season finale overall.

user4704
I will now cancel HBO Go until next season :D

8:45 PM
Hah, I'm tempted to do the same.
Honestly, I don't really like their streaming player. Compared to Netflix, it's just horrible.

9:01 PM
Hello

Ugh
It's the Dane

Oh god.. The Jyde still have internet..

9:40 PM
@Hjorthenify, How did your finals go? :D

Jon
Sup nerds

B+ average

@Hjorthenify Nice :D I had a bad group so the first semester was like, only D's, but this semester it's only A's with a more serious group.
@Jon Sup brah

Ah nice one

Jon
In Canada it's a number

9:42 PM
Same in Denmark

Jon
4.3 is the best score for some reason

Gotta go

We have the same oddity.
12 is the highest, but it's possible to get out with a 12.72 average
If you start college within two years, you get an additional 8% on that.

Jon
Heh
After college I was offered a job to teach

Really?

Jon
9:45 PM
It didn't affect my ego at the time but it does now

I've taught an after school intro to programming for kids in middle school. I can say I've tried it, but I'm definitely not interested in ever becoming a teacher.

Jon
Yeah the head of the dept offered me a teaching position but I already had a job with environment Canada
Which totally crashed and burned
Ehehe
Got laid off 6 months later
They rehired me on contract
Then I got a job elsewhere

I have yet to try and get fired. I'm not looking forward to it.
I guess getting laid off isn't so bad though.
At least it isn't your own fault.

Jon
It is if you have a life established

Oh yeah, it definitely sucks in that aspect.

Jon
9:49 PM
I quit a fee jobs my most memorable is Wendy's
Few

You don't have unions that help? We have this thing, where if you're fired or laid off, you'll get your pay covered for up to two years.
Obviously, with the expectation that you try your hardest to find a new job.

Jon
I got upset. Manager told me to punch out if I was mad. So back in those days you would punch out at the cash register. I walked up to the register and punched it with my fist.
Turned around and said fuck you I quit

Whoa :P

Jon
Called my friend went to his house and played video games

Nothing like the times where you didn't rely on having a job :D

Jon
9:52 PM
Haha that job was stupid

Sie
I don't mind working shitty minimum wage jobs as right now that is what is around but I wish I had insurance. The medicaid/medicare gap sucks.

Jon
Not just about cooking food, serving food, and being super nice, you have to clean the toilets, scrub the floors, change the grease, change the garbage
It's a shit job
And they treat you like shit
The job is fucken horrible

I could actually do with most jobs, as long as the environment is good. But there are a lot of minimum wage jobs where you're treated horrible.

Sie
Well it is minimum wage for a reason. You're doing easy tasks that robots will be doing sooner or later and for now we're very easily expendable.

It's weird... the robots only cost about a year of minimum wage salary. Why are businesses all lagging so bad?

9:57 PM
I recently read that driverless trucks with likely be the next big industrial revolution, since it'll not only affect truckers, but all the other areas that rely on truckers, like diners, motels, etc.

Sie
Wendy's and others have already been rolling out some kiosks for ordering. Soon[TM] we'll see a cutback of workers.

We have kiosks around here too. Haven't tried them yet though, but at the rate of errors I usually experience, I can only imagine it'll be better.

The machines always end up with better error rates than humans

Sie
Everyone seems to complain about them but I use them all the time at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, and etc. They all work fine.

Except some weird tasks like chicken sexing I think
