Jon
10:00 PM
so, you want someone to admit he doesn't know what he is doing?
haha j/k i know what you are saying.

user92578
Well yeah, I feel like he is just trying to hide it

Jon
ignorance

user92578
I mean listing those filenames :D

user92578
Who knows, I might give him some pseudo code tomorrow

Jon
some people want help, others want solutions done for them

user92578
10:02 PM
Yeah

Jon
some, seem to try to make entire games off code they acquire off gdse
you can lay out a solution and they will ask you for the project files

user92578
^ why I always prefer to pseudo

Jon
cough
18
A: How can I "squeeze" a game object when it is pressed between two others?

JonThis effect is very easy to produce in Unity using a couple of Box Colliders, and some basic math. The effect will ressemble the following: This is a very simple model for this problem. First you need 3 gameobjects added to your scene. Each object will contain a BoxCollider2D and a RigidBod...

this fucken guy

user92578
Oh yeah

user92578
Thats an awesome answer though

user92578
10:05 PM
I've upvoted that a long time ago

Jon
i purposely made the gif animation exactly the same as his images

lol I log on to find this?
"pro" LOL Im a newbie

Jon
hehe

user92578
How is that question so downvoted though?

Jon
he sounds excited
because the guy is a fucken idiot
he kept asking for project files

10:06 PM
wait Ehsan from my pic or is this some other guy u guys are talking about?

user92578
No

Jon
he was notorious for a while

wait who jon?

user92578
...

user92578
The squeeze guy

Jon
10:09 PM
yeah he had multiple questions where he demanded above and beyond help
it was getting ridiculous
and that answer I wrote just as a f-u really, i just wanted to proove he would not be happy with it

@Pip aye, overworld maps eh

user92578
@Jon some nice rep from a f-u

Jon
look at the first comment though

that was a pretty good answer

Jon
That is exactly what I am talking about

user92578
10:11 PM
Yeah

Jon "Squeezemaster" Gallant

user92578
"For testing"

Jon
haha
a normal person would ask more information, or pick my brain
he basically says, not good enough, wein wein
It is insulting

yeah
> Unfortunately, you have to edit your answer because my project is 3D. Which means that I have Box Collider and Rigibody, without 2D.
just, yeah
you have to, Jon

Jon
lol, he was memorable that is for sure

10:16 PM
make sure to treat it nicely, will have a higher chance of executing

Jon
questions like this... are really friggen stupid... like what does it prove if you got this right?

ensure all surrounding code is all proper-like, otherwise you'll hurt its feelings
lol :/

Jon
yeah, but you know you had to answer something similar to this for a job in the past
I know i did
One of my all time favorite questions for a job
"What is a back plane?"
The question immediately before it "What are the 7 layers of the OSI model, and briefly describe each layer"
I swear to fucken god.

@ChrisMcFarland Tallowmere has xbox controller support, I love it even more :D

:D
I think I only managed to get the rumble feature working on Win7

Jon
10:21 PM
yeah, rumble on unity is ridiculous lol
you need to install xinput

it's weird though, cuz some users have to disable XInput otherwise it lags hard

Jon
oh really

on windows 10, rumble works :D

Jon
that is interesting

@TheMuffinCoder oh really? nice lol
yeah it's just a mish-mash of finger-crossing
luckily the InControl plugin comes with its C# source

Jon
10:23 PM
fdid you buy it?

Jon
those gallants are pretty smart aren't they?

poo it stopped working with the controller :(
it start to rumble randomly and died :P

@Jon well worth. yeah it's a good surname ;)
@TheMuffinCoder nooooo

wait just checking

Jon
10:23 PM
this does annoy me, lol

did u test with 360 controller or xbone?

hahahahahaha

Im using xbone rn

@TheMuffinCoder I mainly test with Xbox 360 but I did test with an Xbox One controller at some point
the InControl dev has a beta version of a lot of core stuff re-done, much more closer to the metal so to speak
I haven't bothered to try it yet tho

Jon
i bought that font the other day, still didn't get it
dude better fucken deliver

10:25 PM
nooooooo
controller died in game and I died D:
oh well :P
no more controller it is then :)

Jon
haha, multiplayer tallowmere is going to be epic
can't wait

aww, my apologies
I don't think I coded a thing to see if your controller disconnects suddenly
aye I'm keen to get it prepped well enough for some testing
gonna have my work cut out for me

Jon
yeah for sure man
you are well on your way though, what you have shown up to now is really great

thank you!

Jon
you have a knack for making stuff satisfying
which is great for gamedev :D

10:29 PM
:D
It's just sound effects and particle effects and extra physics checks, honestly

Jon
yeah but that makes a world of a difference... great sound design is ridiculously hard to do

makes the world come to life

Jon
and great gameplay for that matter, just sound is hard for me, haha

I've been searching for random words on Spotify, discovering lots of new tunes that sound pretty cool (for when I wanna try tackling music)

Jon
talk to Mick, he rocks :)

10:30 PM
bfxr.net for sounds is my go-to
Mick's stuff is too heavy for me

Jon
the guy can make soft stuff too, he just doesn't like it

hahaha

Jon
but it could be his bread and butter seriously
tone it down

for music it feels you either wanna go for super catchy, or super ambient/vague
aye
I'm on the fence of wanting to buy FL Studio for Windows
I've got the mobile version which is very nice, but kinda hard to use at the same time
or dunno if I'd just try to contract a musician later on

Jon
i was listening to a megaman2 cover
like, holy shit man that game had terrific music
entire soundtrack of great songs

user92578
10:34 PM
Megaman songs are awesome

Megaman music is very fast-tempo'd eh, to keep you moving
yet the game, you run pretty slowly usually? lol

Jon
megaman 2 was so epic
yeah but you didn't really stop

Jon
the gameplay was frantic
the powerups were so well thought out
you could defeat dr.wily with the bubble lead, lol
the one powerup that did nothing except kill heat man

10:36 PM
I often have to laugh
I look back at Super Mario RPG
which is just a turn-based RPG
and it has the most happiest, fastest, exciting music
when most of the time you're just standing still waiting for turns to execute
Yes, those power-ups were great

Jon
oh man, mario RPG
I rented that game on the SNES when I was a kid, and played it for 2 days striaght
beat it, tried to get to that godamn cloud place

haha :)

Jon
they kept talking about a casino in the clouds. and I still don't think I ever got to it

it's probably my most nostalgic-laden game for me
I had the player's guide, yo

Jon
was there a cloud casino?

10:38 PM
lol
I don't think it was a cloud one? but there was a casino of sorts
some membership card you had to get

Jon
back in those days, you could rent games for like 4$
lol

Jon
nowadays renting a game sounds fucken crazy
remember renting NES games, and they didn't work very good
you had to jiggle, blow, pray
then when you got it working, you said "DON;T TOUCH IT !!!"

Jon
I had this trick with mine with a piece of paper
it probably didn't do anything at all

10:41 PM
it's funny, cuz this day n age if your carts didn't work, you'd go ask for a replacement or a refund
but back then, it's just how it was
feck, I think I wanna create a RoomTransitionSequencer, decouple my spaghetti chain of events

Jon
its crazy too, i played hundreds of games, but never really bought many
rented games every weekend

ah real
I used to get an allowance, and it was basically my video game fund

Jon
haha, i'd rent them and play for hours straight trying to beat them

Hey chris just wondering
is there a android version?
This seems like the perfect game to play on the go

Yes
check your itch.io download page for the APK
comes with it

10:43 PM
WHOOOOO!!!!

Jon
:D

I never bought Earthbound, only rented it a couple times

never beaten it

10:44 PM
I used to have to suffer playing this instead before

haha. Your Android device has to be kinda fast to make it run my game well I think
I've tried it on friends phones but it was a bit choppy

Jon
i never played earthbound

I just bought a galaxy core prime today, so hopefully it'll run :D

1.2 GHz... maybe! should at least launch

LOL
I ran minecraft on a potato tier phone
this should be able to handle tallowmere well :P

10:49 PM
all good
the DRM-free version I just let it run on default android texture settings
but the Play Store version I require OpenGL ES 3.0 (instead of 2.0) cuz I don't want a bunch of people with slow phones buying the game and then giving it 1-star reviews
yeah i'm gonna make this sequencer class
let it handle each state, and each method from other classes can report to it
cuz at the moment they talk to each other in this horrible chain of events
and I get confused when trying to debug :(

Jon
are you using the high level network components in unity for your multiplayer>
or the lower level network layer that they expose?

what's a high level mean
(I get confused)

Jon
well, the new unity multiplayer layer has two different ways to use
one is, to use the higher layer abstraction

oh snap if chris is getting confusing with multiplayer

Jon
so you just set IDs on your entities

10:57 PM
Im going to get crushed

Jon
and it handles the updating automatically

I'm using TNet http://www.tasharen.com/?page_id=4518
It supports instantiating objects over the network and assigns IDs automatically
so when a player joins, there's a network-wide instantiation thing for that player, and then the new player tells everyone to create a new creature
supports buffering too

Jon
commercial use?

yeah
$100 USD

Jon
nice
bookmarked :)

10:59 PM
however, it doesn't really handle sync states? so when something is created from the buffer, I've got it set to request the latest info about the creature or whatever

Jon
Yeah I kinda like writing my own
but i mean...

so it spawns automatically from the network buffer, then requests the latest info, and then receives and parses and enables itself
whereas I think UNet has some of the sync stuff more automated

Jon
you can never be as efficient as writing a custom network layer for a specific game

It's probably heaps easier if you only allow new players to join at a certain point
yeah

Jon
having a network layer that does everything, is going to be heavy

11:00 PM
it's stupidly complex

Jon
but yeah... i'll never have the functionality

Currently I'm opting to try and let players join at any time

Jon
there is a ton of work invovled in this stuff

but if I have to, I will restrict to only be able to join when you're between levels or something
yeah
It's tough too cuz you can't just have unlimited messages being sent all the time
bandwidth restrictions and CPU usage for parsing it comes into play
I don't really think I'm gonna have like 60+ units going at the same time
for a 2D physics non-lockstep system lol
but, I like to try out other network games on Steam, or consoles, and I know they aren't perfect
so it's okay if my stuff ain't perfect too, but yeah, it's super hard

Jon
yeah man, i know it

11:03 PM
and with messages.... I'm largely setting positions and boolean flags
player is moving left, true or false
so there's this boolean-laden abstraction layer basically
it's no longer Player.GetKey("A")

Jon
you probably have an amazing codebase at this point

it toggles the boolean to move left lol
I have no idea hahaha

Jon
the thing is, it is yours
so it is efficient for you

just tacking it together in hopefully an easy-enough method for me to understand it well enough, yeah
The great thing with TNet too
compared to Unity's shit

Jon
I'm just thinking, doing part 2 of a game is cool
redo all the shit you did wrong :)

11:06 PM
is that you can have the host leave and nobody cares

Jon
ah yeah
so its more of a peer to peer setup? how does that work?
is there is server?

yeah, doing a sequel is weird but cool but largely desired to make things better
So, you can have a middle server if you want, or do a direct connection
the middle server is just a simple message passer
and if the host leaves, TNet just assigns someone else as the new host
"host" meaning they have the authority
but everyone is synced so it doesn't really matter?

Jon
where is that tnet server?

I have a DigitalOcean thing in san fran

Jon
i guess what I am wondering is.. who authorizes the game logic? lo

11:08 PM
it'll be prone to hacking, sure
so I'm not going to tout pvp as a selling point lol
but for friendly co-op, should work a treat

Jon
fair enough

you see all the shit these days

Jon
its a never ending battle really

basically if you don't have an authoritative server, your game goes to custard
yeah

Jon
you need a dedicated coder to battle the hacks

11:09 PM
it's a lot of work and never ends
I ain't got time for that

Jon
even with authoritative server, if you have a popular game, it will be tested

Jon
I used to host one of the top terraria servers
for about 1.5 years or so.. shortly before my divorce
They laid a fiber line to my house one of the first in Canada, and I was getting 100mbit/s up/down
i think they forgot to cap it or something, but it was ridiculously fast

haha cool

Jon
anyways, the hacking going on was rampant

11:11 PM
:(

Jon
we had all kinda of anti-hacking measures
but it ultimately required 24/7 staff

Jon
yeah haha
it was fun for a while though, we did manage to keep the hacking to almost 0

that's good

Jon
i had hourly backups
if shit went down, I reverted to whatever hour
lol

11:14 PM
jeez

Jon

sounds like MMO-tier maintenance

Jon
here is a world
i refreshed the world image every day

Jon
encouraged building

11:14 PM
that is crazy
Personally, I just don't enjoy building and crafting
I'd rather just destroy things

Jon
yeah but consider someone taking 5 hours to build bald bull
then some asshole destroy it in 5 seconds

Jon
I mean ultimately it is all meaningless
But it is still a dick move

I just can't get excited over virtual crafting
me coding = creating stuff
I play games to knock things down

lol I was that asshole in minecraft >:)

11:16 PM
haha

I used my xray textures and greifed the spawn on purpose bwhahahaha

lol...

Jon
lol..
i am trying to think of the biggest dick thing I have done in gaming

They had spawn protection but minecraft had tnt physics where one exploding tnt could project another next to it far away

Jon
and I can't really I was always pretty nice
one time I had my g/f speak in the headset while I killed everyone as CS

11:17 PM
LOL
their responses must had been priceless

Jon
lol yeah, they were all calling bullshit, lol

Jon
guys I got the star system working

Press the konami code to unlock all the levels at once
Only the wise will know

Jon
11:20 PM
:D
hard to do that on a mobile

They must show dedication and plug in a usb keyboard

Jon
entire thing is designed for mobile from day 1

lol I used to use a keyboard with my tablet
but all the apps were pretty bad at using it so I gave up
Hey guys
Whats the proper term for pushing a projectile along an angle?

Jon
thrust
lol what do you mean

Im going to enable my ship to fire projectiles (plasma bolts) in the direction its facing
But I don't know the physics to do so I was going to look it up
My current plan was to determine the slope using trig based on the angle but thought there might had been some euler efficient stuff better than that

Jon
11:24 PM
keep a forward vector
and a forward velocity

ouch vector as in <strength, direction>?

Jon
there are two things to consider... the direction you are facing and the direction you are traveling

ooo
-1
Q: How do i move a 2D object with angle and speed variables in unity?

user3797758I want to move an object with a certain angle and speed, is there a was to set this as an initial velocity so that it is still possible for the object to collide and bounce of other objects using its rigid body?

I'll fix up my physics to use vectors like what you said Jon but I'll try this answer first

Jon
don't listen to me i'm drinking

no no no jon dont worry I'll do that soon

Jon
11:28 PM
no no i'm serious I'm a little drunk right now

oh lol
lmao that guy just downvoted rn

Jon
lol what guy?

the guy from the question i posted lol
LOL someone undid it
