11:00 PM
they have a javascript interperter

if you are using chrome or firefox or IE, they have one, too
but i meant in whatever project you are working on
so that you could type (monsterHealth[rInt1] < 1) and see the output
the gist is, what you are saying doesn't make any sense, so its my theory that one of your statements thus far has been false
either rInt1 or monsterHealth isn't what you think it is
you should double check them

your probably right
am going to check
this is why I dont like dynamic type programming langauges

couldn't hurt. good luck

like python and javascript

ah, well, they have their moments

11:04 PM
but it would be so much easier if it were like java and you could define their type
and it couldnt change

perhaps
in duck typing you do that with unit tests
if your type has to have certain values, make sure it has certain values before you use it

Thanks again Seth Battin

no problem, good luck

Am going to go check it now

@SethB Is a bool only one bit?

11:10 PM
probably not in c# :|
tough to say

Hmmm... I am trying to decide whether it is more efficient to use a bool or an int

you could make your rows 8 bits wide
shift off one bit per cell

Hmmm... I dont know...

that kind of optimization isn't worth much though. You have something like 2^34 bits with which to work, right?

@SethB Yeah it is small...

11:12 PM
make it a byte array, call it good

T.T firefox doesnt know what my array is...
I make it write a string to the canvas and it gives me the proper value
than I make it console it and I get a error that it is undefined
and I didnt change it in the process...

does your code live somewhere public? I could glance it it quick

wait a sec, I'll give it to you
let me copy chunks to notepad and then here

nooooo
some other place

11:15 PM
some codebin

whats that

I never actually put any of my code public
okay thanks I'll give it you soon
wait a sec

@SethB Haha... ever since I made a few shaders I look for smallest optimiations

@OutlawLemur it's easy to get embroiled in the minutiae
bytes are good for other things, too
each bit can represent the contents of the surround cells, and then you can map them to specific parts of a tile map

11:19 PM
I don't think I will convert it to an single dimension array of bytes because it is such a small optimization and it would not be worth the effort

here I got the important parts
this was part of my game which is 1129 lines long
@SethBattin are you still there?

oh I'm here

do you define monsterCount anywhere?

@androidmaster Do you define rInt1 somewhere else? If you call var rInt1 = 0 in the for loop then it will destruct after the for loop is finished, and won't be available in other scopes like I suspect it is now

11:22 PM
yea
yes
But if I where to put that stuff it would make it longer

no it wouldn't

I define all of my vars in the beginng and set them to 0 if they are numbers
monsterCount is 4

javascript arrays have a length property, btw

It could be somewhere else in the script rInt1 is being set to a different type between key presses

that is true

11:24 PM
yea but I same the lenght to make it more efficient and faster

@OutlawLemur rInt1 is always a number
see in the for loop, if it were something different it turns back to a number as 0

@androidmaster Are you positive? Because that is most likely where the error lies

read what I just said
and I dont call any methods that change rInt1
in line 17 I get the value of the array and then in 26, it saids that the value is undefined
and I dont understand that since I didnt change it
and the only method I called was addMessage but that just renders that string I made

if (monsterHealth[rInt1] == 0) should be ===... Although you have that elsewhere

11:28 PM
I tried that too...
the problem is that somehow after line 17, the browser doesnt know what the array value is but after it is called again it with another key event, line 17 works again but the rest doesnt
hey guys I found a solution but I still dont get it
I'll update codebin

your code works fine, once all the other giant errors are fixed
thanks for the troll

what troll?

i suppose they weren't all errors...mostly just missing global values

your code works fine, your conditional works fine

11:36 PM
but it doesnt in firefox before
'3'
i dont wnat to be a troll ... :(
quick question guys
is pygame any good?

I think it's fine
I prefer other things, but there's definitely nothing wrong with it

okay.. I want to leanr to use since am going to buya rasberry pi

I made a fully functioning pong in it without hardly knowing it in < 4 hours

and python seems to be the main thing for it

@androidmaster It does the job just fine for 2d game
It's for python

11:39 PM
okay good
i dont want to troll myself with python
it happened to me in java and javascript

if you learn python before you use pygame it makes it much easier

I learn to use canvas element for javascript but it turn out I was suppose to use Webgl for fast rendering
@Serial I will
I know some python, I mostly know just java and javascript

Then you should be fine, takes a bit of getting used to though
Yeah I am most fluent in python and pretty good with pygame

@Serial I just dont like that you haev to indent for conditionals
and no semicolons
or brackets

Yeah there are brackets
yeah
Syntax definetly takes getting used to

11:41 PM
I love using brackets and semicolons to formate my code and conditioanls but python am forced to idnent
and its dynamic typings
I like static instead but oh well

It took me awhile to get used to typing C#

static?
I love it that way...
hasherr
have you made any other games?

@androidmaster There are semicolons in python...

@OutlawLemur i meant o end each command
like javascript I could do

I know...

11:43 PM
console.log("hello world");

Yeah in python you can write multiple statements on one line using semi-colons

but in python its
print ("hello world")

In python you can do print("hello");print("world")

wait wait

yeah
not used to much though

11:44 PM
but does it have to be on the same line?

@serial I don't know why you would....
No

YAY!!!!!!!
but

Yeah there is no point, only time I've seen it used is for CodeGolf ;P

Yeah... There is no practical use...

you can do print('hello');

11:45 PM
is CodeGolf a competition?

and you wont get an error

@andorid You try to make programs in least characters possible

@OutlawLemur Yea i know that

CodeGolf is a SE site where people post challenges and you try to do them creatively and with the least characters possible

I just have that attachment to using semicolons
I been using them for a year....
@Serial like js1k

11:47 PM
@Serial Well code golf is a practice... the site is just based off it... Not to nit pick ;)

Yes, That's true!
I didn't know what it was before i saw the site though

@SethBattin Hey, I need help on what to google
Do you mind helping me out?

anything to google?
I know
what do you want, anything?

Lol

topics for gaem dev?

11:51 PM
No

than wha?

Actually, nvm @SethBattin I think I got it

:(
is it soemthign that will make you smarter, if so I can know?
please ignore my bad grammer/spelling

I needed to figure out how to upload a mysql database to a webserver

:O webserver... I never got my home server to work, my ip address would never connect on different computers...

11:56 PM
@hasherr sorry, was off for a second

Yeah, it's coo
Looks like I have to install PHPMyAdmin

well, maybe
but if you can install you can add the db manually
do you have shell access?

The MySQL shell?

shell access on the server

Oh, no

11:58 PM
mmm...tricky

You're talking about the server where my site is hosted, correct?

whereever the db will live, yeah

Then no, all I have is an FTP.

but you could install phpmyadmin?

Of course I can.
:P

11:59 PM
oh, i guess that's just php scripts, eh?

well, a lot of posts I'm reading are saying that it's used to export databases to servers
like this
