@Pip what's the next step in MT

Pip
next step is implementing screen classes (menu, loading, pause, etc)

wot

ahh interessant

"interessant" that's swedish, or some other nordic language

12:02 AM
Francais

actually I like the idea of a whiteboard... dang it now I might have to buy a giant one to cover half a wall. XD
thanks, Pip. >:(

(that c should have a cedille)

oh

Pip
it is interesante in Spanish @ChristianCareaga
@IcyDefiance :)

12:02 AM
they say "interessant" in swedish too

Je suis en Francais deux

"det är interessant"
I don't speak french :(

usually larger words are the same in most languages

in most yeah

Pip
btw @Lasse, good job with the AI

12:04 AM
it's "mielenkiintoinen" in finnish
@Pip it's not my AI I showed here
it's some guys AI
this is our team AI

Our french teacher was a foreign exchange student in France and she was asking about preservatives, so she said "perservatif" Which would be the french sounding way but it turns out that means condom in french haha

It's only selecting the shortest lane, our next goal is to implement speeding/braking algorithm

Pip
@Lasse I know, I went to your profile and looked at it

Okay then :)

Pip
:)

12:10 AM
;)
:D
Let's change the room to emoticons only
And rename the room to 'Girly Game Devs'

hehe (^.^)

such a sexist rabbit

I was gonna send the boob emoticon but i didnt

Pip
lol

Inappropro
dan is busy with school and stuff so we haven't written any necro :(

Pip
12:13 AM
@ChristianCareaga :(

@IcyDefiance How is that sexist? lol

On a scale from 1-Sexist

Pip
sh
offtopic
so

yeah... getting there....

Pip
@hasherr @ChristianCareaga what should our next goals for MT?
hey @rolfl

12:18 AM
IDK

hey @Pip

Pip
sup?

Actually, I have been playing candy-crush .... but you GameDev folk would laugh if I told you ....

@Pip the ranking will change, this is the first day of the two week competition

Pip
12:19 AM
@Lasse can I see the code?

out of the 2000

Pip
@Lasse edit that, and make it more clear, and I will star it

after the race, this is a competition :D

Pip
I am not participating :P

@Pip I think fully-functioning GUI classes

12:20 AM
chat is indexed by google, apparently

Pip
@ChristianCareaga yeah....
@IcyDefiance old news :P

oops I wasn't supposed to write that there :D
whatever

Then it would be easy to build the content because you would have the tools

@Pip but important in the present, because it shuts down your request

oh, there's already 3100 teams in the game
oh, no
3100 developers in almost 2000 teams

Pip
12:23 AM
@IcyDefiance I wanted a link or something, in an email :P

@Lasse You should put a write-up on the Connunity Project meta-post

Q: Community Project Highlights 2014

Alex M.Welcome to the first Community Project Highlights! Here's what it's all about: As a member, you can post an answer to this question with details about a personal project (preferably an ongoing project, since one of the points of this is for you to regularly update your answer with extra details,...

Pip
absolutely
he knows where it is :P
He has a post already

@rolfl I already got an entry there

Pip
post another one @Lasse

all right

12:24 AM
Not for this project... ahhh ...
I did check first ;-)

Pip
lol

Is it time to unpin some of those 'keep-it-pg-13 messages?
Make space for real content.

Pip
yeah

Back to lurking....

Pip
lol
it is apparently possible to hit Shift+i when typing "lol".....
hey Labris

12:28 AM
Labris still has no rep
to post

Pip
ah

added the entry

Pip
@hasherr I'm done for tonight.... this is a lot of work....
cya all!

12:48 AM
now he should have the rep
magic
@Labris say something!
It'll take a while for the rep to update in the chat

1 hour later…
Pip
2:04 AM
music drop, then back to bed

Sup
@JohnMcDonald Copy the permalink and post it to yourself.

heh, keep reading there buddy
;)

and that one was pure luck, couldn't get it to do that again :D

Pip
2:12 AM
@hasherr have fun with that. remember..... git --help, and :wq
@Lasse nice
now I actually have to go to bed :/
cya

groan PhoneGap is applying my background image to the "body" element, and the body element is only as tall as the content.

Ahhh :p

Works in any browser. Even IE!
So, edit, commit, sync, update code/compile, download, install, run
sigh

2:53 AM
Woot! Time to release my first Android game, :D

3:07 AM
@JohnMcDonald nice!

3:47 AM
sigh, Maybe not tonight. I need to sign my apk, and I really need to eat

4:35 AM
@Pip Noice, me likes this music++ youtube.com/watch?v=TSpP1jj_Ov0
@ChristianCareaga Looked at your project. Sounds interesting, mind if I ask you how you are doing the shadow?

3 hours later…
7:17 AM

user92578
@BlueBug Uuum, what?

@BlueBug jeah texture bleeding

I tinted right edge of the texture green, but somehow left edge seems to gets its color interpolated from right edge.

user92578
In school, just turned in my huge "Me and the World"-project. Feeling great since my friends have a lot to do still, and it's supposed to be done tomorrow

pulls out hair ok at least now I know the term form this. I want to fix it so bad.

user92578
7:20 AM
could it be somekind of flipping thingy/backface/frontface thing?

@BlueBug you've probably got your UV set up to be 0 at that edge, try setting it to epsiolon (a very small, non-zero value)
@Tyyppi_77 naah, it's a combination of UV coordinates being subtly wrong and having the texture set to interpolate
Either set it to nearest neighbor or don't start from 0 but 0.00000001 :)

user92578
I don't know a thing about (Unity?)... and I've just worked a little while with 3D now...

user92578
What does UV stand for?

user92578
UltraViolet?

Nope, basically just stands for the letters U and V =p

user92578
7:22 AM
Why?

UV mapping is the 3D modeling process of making a 2D image representation of a 3D model. UV mapping This process projects a texture map onto a 3D object. The letters "U" and "V" denote the axes of the 2D texture because "X", "Y" and "Z" are already used to denote the axes of the 3D object in model space. UV texturing permits polygons that make up a 3D object to be painted with color from an image. The image is called a UV texture map, but it's just an ordinary image. The UV mapping process involves assigning pixels in the image to surface mappings on the polygon, usually done by "progr...

user92578
oh

Because better letters were already taken =p

user92578
Thanks!

It's basically what tells the model which pixel from a texture to render :)

user92578
7:24 AM
Yeah yeah, I've worked with shaders and such a bir

user92578
I'm atleast a bit familiar with the concepts

user92578
Then I got lost into making this easily, and I couldn't really use any advanced things, because my vertexes weren't stored in arrays.

@BlueBug instead of starting your coordinates from (0,0) for the top left vertex, use (0.01,0.01)
or you can also change texture wraping mode, from wrap, to clamp

@Ali.S Yes changing UV coordinate seems the answer. I am trying to find a way to go lower a bit to do that in Unity. As much easier things on Unity, harder it is to change things, I think. Trade off for fast production, I guess.
changing wrapping mode is not effective. This guy also seemed to have my issue and he also tried to change the wrapping mode, didn't work

do you really need to actually wrap texture?

7:36 AM
the texture is used for generating destructible 2d terrain. While it seems it is not game breaking bug, I feel like the faint vertical bars around these destructible "blocks" sorta break the feel of it being destructible.
this bleeding creates sorta like "outline" around a block. I put these blocks in a group for my "land" so they look as if one giant destructible land when they are actually just collection of blocks. But if I have these "outlines" they are no more "one giant block"

user92578
// Update the interface
intBuildFinished(psDroid);

user92578
Great idea to use the word "int" for interface

user92578
doesn't mean anything else atleast... :DDD

like the game Worms. I think that's best example of what I want.

8:07 AM
@Tyyppi_77 Is that ... Hungarian notation?

@MartinSojka sorta

Why anyone would influct that onto themselves in most languages (aside those where all or almost all types are dynamic and those prefixes mean something to the compiler/interpreter, like Perl), I'll never understand.

8:23 AM
Probably because they're programming in notepad and can't easily find out what types their globals are

@KevinvanderVelden @Ali.S I did it! Thank you bunch!

yay....

What am I looking at?

that's a secret,
no one knows...

8:26 AM
yes secret.

@MartinSojka you are looking at a monitor

@KevinvanderVelden ... in the same manner that mirrors seem to be the most photographed objects this century.

@BlueBug lol

shhhh... secret. must be kept out of reach of #MartinSojka. This is billion dollar worth game idea.

@MartinSojka well yes, mirror reflex cameras do contain mirrors =p

8:31 AM
can't let Martin to steal this from me. Me will be reach filthy rich once I publish this Worms clone.

Morning chaps tips hat

Morning tips hat

9:08 AM
is bitcoin smart?

Define smart?
For that part, define what part of bitcoin we're talking about

like the digital currency

Yes, I'm aware what bitcoin is
No it is not smart, as in it is not a general purpose AI, it is a cryptographic currency system

But like Paccle. Paccle is my very small "buisness". If people could donate bitcoins to us it would be really cool. You see that with paypal I need to give it credit card information

Yes, because paypal uses actual money

9:14 AM
so wouldn't bitcoin be a better way if I don't want to use a credit card

Well yes, but not if your goal is to actually get money you can then spend

no

Bitcoin is very cool as a cryptographic currency system but it is currently not a viable payment system

I meant like buying video games and servers that supports buying with bitcoin
isn't that okay?

Oh sure it is, but how many do you know that support buying it with bitcoin
Remember, a currency is only a currency if other people accept it as such

9:15 AM
Ive seen some
its better than nothing anyway

Meh, possibly
Do remember that you do have to pay taxes for bitcoin
And it is a nightmare because it is not a currency

Do you get taxes when someone donate bitcoins to you?
or is it when you buy bitcoins

9:32 AM
Uuh, no, it's what you must pay over things you own
You know, taxes
One of only 2 certainties in life

buyers should thus expect to pay about .099 BTC before taxes.
what is .099 BTC

.099 of one BiTCoin

do you have to purchase taxes with digital money or real money

... you don't purchase taxes
You know what taxes are right?

?
Ehhh

9:39 AM
A tax (from the Latin '; "rate") is a financial charge or other levy imposed upon a taxpayer (an individual or legal entity) by a state or the functional equivalent of a state such that failure to pay is punishable by law. Taxes are also imposed by many administrative divisions. Taxes consist of direct or indirect taxes and may be paid in money or as its labour equivalent. Overview The legal definition and the economic definition of taxes differ in that economists do not consider many transfers to governments to be taxes. For example, some transfers to the public sector are comparabl...

I'm just 15

Okay
Taxes are something you pay to the government over your income

ah

So, you have income tax, which is a percentage of the direct currency you get from a job or other income source

How can they know I buy things when I'm doing it anonymous

9:43 AM
Bitcoins are only pseudonymous, that is, identifiable to a bitcoin "account", but not necessarily to a person
So if you ever do something that postively identifies you as the owner of that account they can trace every purchase you have ever done
But that's not really the important thing. You have to, yourself, keep track and tell them of the things you did with bitcoin
Otherwise you are committing tax fraud, which is of course illegal.

@joapet99 They can't, unless the seller told them ... but if they ever find out, you'll get fined.

@MartinSojka if it's big enough there's also the potential for jailtime

... just like Al Capone.
Since in general both sides have to pay taxes (sellers income tax, buyers VAT and/or tariffs), unless it's some minuscule amount at a yard sale or something, chances are one of them will have their taxes registered properly and the other will have to deal with the consequences if they don't.

Hmm, does VAT apply when it's not income
Uuh, monetary income*
Because the IRS has stated that bitcoin falls under capital gain, not money

Hell if I knew, I'm not qualified to comment on the details of the US tax system in any way, shape or form. The basic idea is the same though: In general both sides have to pay some tax, in general neither side knows if the other one does and so doesn't know if skipping that obligation will come bite them in the arse or not.

10:00 AM
@KevinvanderVelden Crypto is taxed? I had no idea
I thought it wasnt regulated yet. Since new crytocurrencies get invented all the time

No regulation needed
As long as you don't use it in a way that transfers value in or out of the system you aren't doing anything that they will tax
So as long as you just mine them, but never sell them for anything other than the same amount of bitcoins (at the same time!) you won't have to pay any taxes

But that is terrible. I want to pay tax for some stuff. Slippery slope, taxation crubles

They are counted as a property, you have to pay capital gains tax if the value changes from when you've gotten the coins

Oh. Alright. So I pay a percentage in regular money for the estimated value of my coins?

a way to get bitcoins :D

10:05 AM
@OliverSchöning you pay a percentage in regular money for the difference between the coins value when you buy them and when you sell them

I'm good. I don't like cryptocurrencies that much. They are cool and all. But the whole "mining" seems so flawed. Give me enough gpu's and I can haz all the coins
@KevinvanderVelden But what if I happen to buy a boat in bitcoins? Then what?

@OliverSchöning whenever you buy a bitcoin, you have to write down their market value at the time you buy them

But what if you get them free?

Then, when you sell them you have to do the same thing, when tax season comes you have to sum the differences between $priceAtBuyTime and $priceAtSellTime
And then pay taxes over that
As I understand it
@joapet99 not really relevant, you're still getting property so you still have to do the same thing

So then he would just look up the market value for the gift coins ?

10:08 AM
There may be tax liabilities encountered when transacting with or trading in bitcoins
may?

user92578
@MartinSojka C++

@joapet99 welcome to the fun world of trying to figure out how something completely new works in a world of laws written decades go

May means not every time

No, may means that there isn't a requirement for it to be every time
It can be every time, there's no requirement of it sometimes not happening either

10:10 AM
You can track coins can't you? Can't the government check for trax fraud that way?

Basically may means "It's possible, to whatever degree we wish"

@Tyyppi_77 Default C++ identifiers are simply lower case ("cout", "vector", ...), not something strange like "psDroid"

Where there are multiple words, they are joined by underscore, as in static_cast

@OliverSchöning you can, and if they verify it you really can't hide anything

10:12 AM
how does tax work when youre below 18

Course the IRS is pretty damn underfunded

years old

Depends on your country

I think you can get something like a tax card

And probably state laws if your country has states like america

10:12 AM
@joapet99 Same as for everyone else. For example, you'll pay essentially the exact same tax rates as an adult would if you inherit something.

But if you have tax card you can have a specified amount of money without getting taxed

You just might need someone to sign in your name (or in addition to your name).

@KevinvanderVelden Got any insightful comments on grounding currency in actual goods? Like the goldstandard years back

Crypto currency? Can't really be done because of the way it works

No I know. Just in general.

10:18 AM
But then, we don't really ground currencies in actual goods anymore, we ground them in a goverments guarantee that it is worth something

Because I have an issue with how cryptocurrency is generated. Maybe just out of ignorance
Yeah I know.

Cryptocurrencys are cool! From the perspective of someone who thinks math is awesome

Yeah no doubt.
But a 51 attack is scary as fuck

I don't think they're yet useful for the real world, but bitcoin is awesome because it'll show the biggest flaws

And highly likely if a crytocurrency was to replace all real money

10:20 AM
So that if we do ever need to implement something like that we have experience with it.

Yeah it will be a long time.

I'm thinking around the time we start building bases outside of earth

But informing people is a good idea. I mean so many people "distrust" their government. But they may not think about how their money is made

Maybe it'll be sooner but we'll need something like a cryptocurrency then
Though maybe not with mining
And there are ways around a 51% attack, it just can't be done without an authority

I get very little money at a time at BitVisitor

10:22 AM
We do? Think about it. You can't really have a peer to peer network if part of your network can't connect
We need Earthcoin and Marscoin etc

How cool it would be if we had a network between planets

There are ways around it I think. PeerCoin is apparently safe. But it has other flaws. Don't ask me. Im a n00b

@OliverSchöning it's probably possible to incorporate such delays into the architecture

I am far more interested in the LIVING IN SPACE part then. well how do we do a proper currency exchange ^^

user92578
@MartinSojka yeah, but the point was that "int" points towards an integer, not interface

10:24 AM
One more thing though. A coin like Dogecoin. It's on github right? Uhm.. can't someone hack the creators account and change all values?

You don't need constant connection, as long as everyone agrees how much currency is in each pool when they disconnect there's no need to prevent people inside the grop from trading
@OliverSchöning nope :D

@KevinvanderVelden Uh good point

The source of bitcoin is also available, but the source isn't the blockchain
And the blockchain is where the data of who has what is actually stored
And who sends what to whom
Sure, if you change the code, and get everyone to switch to the new code you can do whatever you want

So where do changes occur? Like when they tweak mining rates. Or as dogecoin. Make it an inflationary coin
Oh alright. So you have to switch to new ones. lmao that is simple then

Mining rates aren't tweaked, there is a fixed number of coins available, and the later coins are harder to calculate
This is a result of the math behind them, which can't be changed without starting a new coin essentially

10:28 AM
But I thought I read it as dogecoin being "set" to create 5 billion coins each year infinitely. Because a lot of people said they shoulndt do it. Implying that things can get changed.
Probably should ask over there

Well, you can change such things by essentially creating a new coin, which is what they did

Capital Gains Tax in norway is at 2,25% - 6,25%

I don't know the math behind the mining but it seems feasible that they changed it so that it doesn't get harder

Oh ok
@joapet99 are you norwegian?

yes

10:31 AM
Well I had a norwegian tell me the other day that 90% of all government spending goes directly to the immigrants. Any comment ? ^^
He didn't give me a source tho. And ignored all my questions. lmao

@OliverSchöning 90% of the statistics that say 90% can be ignored

wouldn't suprise me

lool.. quit giving scandinavia a bad rep for being biggots. we dont need that
Anyhow. Not the right chat room for that. Sorry

@OliverSchöning take it to Pub<GameDev>!

10:35 AM
Cool thanks

That's basically the offtopic overflow room for this one =p

Maybe the whole bitcoin and tax discussion should move to the pub

Inconvenient as fuck :p Can't we get a show/hide offtopic ^^
Yeh
Some cool rock remixes from game music

4.45% of our users are still using opengl < 2 (1.1, 1.2, etc). #snooperstats
WHY?!?

uuuuuuuugh

4.45 is not that much methinks

Well that certainly explains some of the questions we get at Gaming.SE
@AlexM. OpenGL 2.0: Release Date: September 7, 2004
4.45% of their users still use a computer older then that

okay, what is the reason behind this?

10:58 AM
So many potential reasons
Biggest one is the wide audience of minecraft, everyone and their dad has it by now

one sec lemme eat this bag of chips
typing with one hand is painful

I want potato chips =[
Hmm, I should just go get some icecream in a bit
Though I'm not near the awesome icecream place given that I'm at work

11:16 AM
right
since the Minecraft launcher already allows you to change to older versions including alphas
if I were Mojang, I'd just drop that 4.45% of users and send them an automated message telling them they can't update to the newest version
also how the hell can they play on such old computers

Very, very slowly

Minecraft lags like hell on my i5 2400 w/ integrated video if I don't drop the details to the lowest possible settings

The game already warns you when you're running OpenGL 1.x and they already announced 1.8 won't run below OpenGL 2

neat
now that I think about it, Minecraft used to lag in some specific situations on my GTX 460 too lol

It's nearly completely CPU bound
Or at least... it should be
I'm fairly sure they fucked it up hard enough somehow to get it to be GPU bound

11:20 AM
like what blender does
neat
what frustrates me the most in minecraft is that you can't build realistic sized stuff that's also detailed
you have to build a freaking huge house for it to be detailed

Yeah, there are mods that help with that though

e.g. see the generated buildings
they're ugly
because they're small enough to seem realistic
and that means they're like 3D pixel art
@KevinvanderVelden gief link

see this is detailed

11:28 AM
but it's too huge to seem realistic while in-game
this would be helped if the blocks were smaller
but I guess what I need now is one of those voxel minecrafts

Forge multiparts is works pretty well for small things

yeah but can you achieve something like that building above :(
at a realistic size
by realistic size I mean it should seem as big to the player as it seems in real life to you
