I have two non-clustered indexes on one of my dbs and their definition are:
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [NC_Index1] ON [dbo].[anyTable]
(
[X] ASC,
[Y] ASC,
[Z] ASC
)
INCLUDE (A ,
B,
C)
and
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [NC_Index2] ON [dbo].[anyTable]
(
[X] ASC,
...
If my answer is accepted and then someone else adds an answer that isn't as good but has a few points that I didn't have should I add those points to my answer? Feels like I would be stealing their ideas/work.
@JNK And even if there are some hidden columns that provide order for the 2 tables, mysql does not have window functions, so joining them will have horrible efficiency.
anybody have a great way to convert a string formatted as 214000 into a DATETIME value 21:40:00 ? I can use SUBSTRING etc, but I'm hoping there is a nice canonical way for SQL Server to do the work for me. Much like CONVERT(DATETIME, '20141031', 112) returns a datetime of 2014-10-31 00:00:00
@mmarie i'm getting there early. sunday afternoon. my wife's coming with me and leaving thursday morning early. we've never been to seattle so we're trying to take a little time to get away from kids and such.
Someone walked behind me and meowed. I was confused until i looked up and realized that the girl sitting across from me is dressed as a cat today, and that was just her coworker saying hello.
I think I have just found my most convoluted query of my career: 1. stored procedure that builds dynamic query to be called by sp_executesql 2. The first part of that dynamic query: 'SELECT TOP ' + CAST(@rows_to_return as varchar) + '... 3. Earlier in the procedure found: SET @rows_to_return = (SELECT dbo.fn_get_purge_max_rows_to_return())
This coming from a vendor that is supposed to be a leader in their industry...?!!??!
anyone know a good reason to UPDATE STATISTICS ... WITH NORECOMPUTE ??? Seems a bit dumb to do that to ALL statistics in ALL databases on EVERY instance, right? (background - we have a custom stored proc that updates statistics nightly and uses this option - it wasn't written by me!)
iirc, sharepoint has its own management and maintenance stuff and messing with statistics is not good. i'd make it an exception to your maintenance tasks
@MaxVernon also, what's the sample rate? default? fullscan?
1) Is a database just like another data type like the data frame in R, or a list?
2) Is SQL the language for interacting with the (data type) database?
3) I can use MS SQL Management Studio to make a new DB, is this similar to using MS Access?
4) Once made, how do I host/upload my DB and then co...
