6:00 PM
@billinkc $5 says it's coming.

@MikeFal do they scan for legality

@swasheck Not to my knowledge.

@MikeFal 8472 for me

Amazon just rolled out a "if you bought the CD from us, we'll put the MP3s in your cloud player" service ... AutoRip

I use Spotify to find new music and Google Music to listen to old/obscure stuff I already own.

6:01 PM
@billinkc @MikeFal link?

music.google.com

Google Music: Storage for 20,000 Songs for Free, No Music Store

There's a store

oh that's right

I don't think there's a way to show your music library. You can click to share songs with your G+ circles and stuff but it's rather inconvenient

6:02 PM
You can buy music through their Play store

i could never get the music manager to work

Also inconvenient is that my wife would need to upload the same set of mp3s for her account to have access to them

probably blocked at work

@swasheck it connects to the play store also no they do not scan for legality and you can have your music synched from I think 5 devices.

That's why I stick with Sprint. They might be generally terrible but what signal I have, I abuse the F out of

6:04 PM
@billinkc tethered to 15 devices

@swasheck But I'd have to share my password with my wife.

Q: With the advent of integrated source control, do stored procedure changes still need comments?

8kbBack in the old days, my team had a policy that any stored procedure modification required comments in two places: Top of the stored procedure with an overall summary of the changes made Comments on each line where the change was made It typically looked like this: CREATE PROCEDURE usp_Test...

@billinkc would that be dangerous?

@billinkc I decided to make a separate family account before uploading thousands of tracks then found you cannot stream from the same account to two devices at once - up to 14,602 tracks there. I tend to buy on Amazon and download and upload from same folder, so it's simple enough. Nice that Amazon put in that AutoRip - some of those 1000 tracks were not ripped to Google for some reason.

@swasheck She has trouble remembering her own. Mine would be a burden at the minimum. And plus, I'm insane and don't like sharing passwords

@billinkc are you a DBA?

6:07 PM
@CadeRoux Ohh, good thought, too bad it didn't work.
@swasheck Just a dirty developer

@billinkc Maybe they'll relax it. I decided to keep that account - it's also the default account on the kids' Nexus 7 now.

@CadeRoux's kids have a Nexus 7 I am poor.

I suppose to clarify, I don't like sharing my real passwords. My password for the mainframe is ABCDEF#3

@Zane i'm apparently poorer than you if i dont want to spring the $10/month for a Spotify

@billinkc Incidentally, that is also a drawback of the Google Apps now being paid - I like to create extra real accounts - but with Google Apps you'd pay for every account on the domain...

6:09 PM
The password policy there is it must be 8 characters, have a number and a non-alpha character in it.

All of my passwords follow this philosophy xkcd.com/936
<-- Single with no kids

@CadeRoux Yeah, annoyed I never got off my arse and created one while they were free

@swasheck <--- has children or at least child

1 wife, 2 kids, and a dog. amerikan dreem. wife has a Disney addiction, too.

<---Rent is 250 a month owns old beat up truck still barely making bills :( lol
<--- Tips to good and bars frequented to often. :)

6:12 PM
@Zane They got it as a hand-me-down for Christmas. Then the 7yo came complaining that her iPod (another old hand-me-down) was not an iPod Touch and all her kids at school thought it was a touch when she said she would bring it in for their music/dance party thing. Childhood these days is screwed up. She had serious anxiety about this.

@Zane Rent in college was 112.50 a month (4bd, 3ba). Such a rude awakening going from college town with about 15k people to KC where I was looking at 600-700 a month for a single bedroom

@billinkc I live in the basement of a house and I split the 500 it costs down there with my cousin who lives in the laundry room lol

@Zane Just build an igloo

we wish we could rent now. owning a home is a hassle
but we did just refi and got a smokin' rate

@CadeRoux I got ripped on for stuff like that when I was little. I had a knock off clothes and things of that nature. Never seemed to bother me but I'm a weird guy.

6:16 PM
@CadeRoux this is true. very concerned about when this happens over the next few years.
@billinkc back to google music ... does it take open formats, too? or is it just mp3
(lazy bingle skills - relying on "experts")

@Zane When I was a kid the iPod hadn't been invented. I told Sydney how when her mom and I were first dating that I got her one of the first Windows-compatible iPods (I already had my own hard drive player - the PJB, but the iPod was just starting to take off), and that when she showed it to people they didn't even know what it was. They didn't even know the iPod name and Steve Jobs hadn't been publicly beatified.
@swasheck "FLAC, ogg, and aac files are transcoded to 320kbps mp3."
@swasheck "wma files are only supported by the Windows version of the Google Play Music Manager."

@CadeRoux thanks.

@CadeRoux Was just about to say that except I didn't know about flash
@CadeRoux The first MP3 player I had was an archos media juke box
Also I refuse to buy any apple device

6:32 PM
i rip everything to ogg
@Zane "The Man" has purchased both apple devices in my possession

I don't like the layout. The cost is outrageous and the software they use on your computer is basically malware.
Also I find IOS to be horribly cluttered design.

My company just bought me an iPhone. To which I responded: "Meh, why can't I just use my Droid?"
@Zane Absolutely. Playing with an iPhone, I feel very "locked in" too. Apple's message is "Our way is best, so you shall do it that way."

My desktop is clean on my PC and my phone only objects I need often are kept.
All others can be accessed when needed through startbar/app button

Well to offer a different opinion, I gave up on Windows years ago. Mac OS is a pretty cheap OS (and one license is eligible for multiple devices). And if you think it's bloated or cluttered compared to Windows...

IOS is just a heap of icons scattered all over the place.

6:36 PM
Come on Zane, you can make a scattered mess of icons on any OS. iOS lets you organize into folders as much as you want. I have tons of apps but only 2 app screens.

iOS is very much the winner of the first smartphone war between Apple, Blackberry, WinMo and Palm - and it shows. Android and WP8 have a good head start, and it will be interesting to see if Apple can leapfrog them in the next couple generations.

@AaronBertrand i'll agree with this. apple has been concerned with the user experience for far longer than microsoft.

@AaronBertrand I'm talking about IOS not MacOS. My only problem with Mac Desktop/Laptops is they are to expensive.

@Zane you get what you pay for. I bet my $2000 MacBook Pro lasts more than twice as long as a $1000 Dell.

@Zane my wife has a galaxy s2 and i honestly prefer the UI on my iPhone (as much as i hate to admit it).

6:38 PM
@swasheck I would dispute that they have actually gone as far as people say with the polish. There are a lot of parts of iOS and OSX where there are really bad UX issues.

@AaronBertrand when i was developing ETL processes, i smoked 4 mobos on dell.

@Zane you talked about "My desktop is clean on my PC" and "the software they use on your computer is basically malware."

@CadeRoux sure. but apple seems quite focused on it. the real advantage that apple has had is that they've had a definite mobile strategy for much longer than google and MS

I smoke two mobos in the morning, I smoke two mobos at night...

Yeah the ITunes software on a PC
Not OSX

6:39 PM
@billinkc till the day i die

@Zane yes, and hence, OSX is better for that
@Zane and can you blame them? Remember when Microsoft made IE for the Mac? How much effort do you think they put into that?

@Zane iTunes isn't any better on OSX from what I can see. Still the same confusing bullshit prompts that can wipe your iPod in a single click misreading their poor copy and technobabble.

@Zane they've done a half-decent job with Office, but it took several generations and it's still 1.5-2 revs behind IMHO.
@CadeRoux that's not my experience. <shrug>

That's what I was referring to and I used the PC example for I like a clean desktop and IOS just isn't very clean.

@Zane unfortunately that's pretty subjective. You can make it quite clean if you want to, as I said above.

6:42 PM
It's a Ford/Chevy argument for the most part. Personally, I like that I have more freedom with my Droid phone than I've experienced with i* products, but I'm an edge case in that I like that flexibility.

i find it very interesting how religiously all sides hold to their platform of choice.

Personally, I'd recommend an iPhone for my mom if she ever wanted a smart phone.

@MikeFal mazda/audi

@swasheck It is very much a religious war, considering overall the differences aren't that significant.

we're un-uhh-merkin

6:43 PM
wassup bruisers

@AaronBertrand Conceptually, the whole thing with the media you send to your phone not being backed up vs. the media generated on the phone being backed up is wrong. A backup should be a backup. Apple isn't the only one guilty, but before we talk about how it's all so EASY, those people should explain all that stuff like iCloud to their wife or mother.

@MarkStorey-Smith welcome.

What's a good image hosting site that I can throw up my screenshot to help make this point.

@Zane Flickr?

Mine is about longevity. I've had much better luck with Apple hardware than any of the other vendors, and I'd rather pay $2000 and have to buy a new machine in three years than pay $1000 and have to buy a new machine next March. YMMV.

6:44 PM
account necessary?

@swasheck I'm frustrated with everything, so I do religiously hold that side, I guess.

if you have a screen shot just upload right here in this window, it goes to imgur, no account required
Just know that some folks with overbearing and untrusting employers won't be able to see it.

Heh
Like mine

@CadeRoux equal opportunity hater

Someone should buy a domain like usgov.com that is just an alias for imgur

6:46 PM
Amusingly enough, we had a new mobile phone policy attached to the new iPhone I got. My company is disallowing the following from within: Dropbox, iCloud, Skydrive, and Google Drive

@MikeFal so basically don't even think about saving anything off the phone.

I've had the same asus laptop for 3 years now. I don't do much with it as I spend enough computer time at work but it's been good to me.

@AaronBertrand Or my desktop

@swasheck I had WinMo, then got tired of waiting for larger screens, so I got the Jesus Phone, then got tired of waiting for the larger screens and moved to Android.

@Zane I'm talking about all-day, every-day heavy usage.
@Zane and lots of travel. 75K miles last year and I

6:48 PM
@MikeFal we disallow iCloud because our users sync'd their calendars which, in turn, was sync'd to their Exchange account, and iCloud wiped out their Exchange calendar. in this case, we're saving end users from themselves :)

'm pretty sure my MacBook Pro accompanies me on every single mile.

@AaronBertrand I'll second that. Have 2 MBPs at the house, one from 2007 and I'm not even sure when this one is from, let's call it 2009. That solid body AL is the shit. Maxed out RAM on both, went to a SSD on the 2009 one and it flies.

@AaronBertrand multiple vms

@swasheck Yeah, this is all in the name of "security" so we can't run off with company data. Though I could still bring in a USB drive and do that.

@MikeFal what's your sector?
@AaronBertrand indeed.

6:49 PM
@swasheck Healthcare

@swasheck my laptop (2010 model) maxes out at 8 GB, so only one VM there.

@Lamak I posted my question on this. dba.stackexchange.com/questions/31794/…

@swasheck my desktop, however, is a 2008 Mac Pro, still running strong. It has 32 GB (also maxed out) and I run multiple VMs.

@MikeFal what do you guys do specifically? (perhaps you're a competitor)

@Lamak Feel free to add your solution if you want.

6:50 PM
@AaronBertrand ah. nice.

@Lamak I should have said that it works, but I'd like a window function approach if possible.

@swasheck Pretty sure we're not competitors. We do supply chain software for hospitals. www.ghx.com

@swasheck I haven't needed to replace it other than upgrading all of the drives to SSD. I probably will replace it (and my monitors) when I can buy a Mac Pro with Thunderbolt, USB 3, etc.

@MikeFal yeah ... then no we're not.
@AaronBertrand you've got a pretty solid case with the longevity argument

6:51 PM
My Android desktop. Mario runs through the levels btw. Probably not going to keep that as it is distracting.

@AaronBertrand Supposed to be the first "Made in USA" Mac in a few years (if it really comes) buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Mac_Pro

@Zane again, quite subjective. Having an animated background on my phone while I stare at a home screen is pretty meaningless to me.

@AaronBertrand As much as I enjoy poking fun at Mac folks (my brother is one, too), I don't begrudge anyone their choice of equipment. Whatever works for you, that's what it boils down too.

@CadeRoux cue the cynical "what will be the premium for that?" comments

And my personal choice? My Droid phone and my Lenovo laptop.

6:53 PM
@swasheck Fewer suicides.

@MikeFal especially since apple moved to intel and desktop virtualization hitting the mainstream ... OS is irrelevant

@AaronBertrand yeah pretty sure I'm not going to keep it as it is distraction. Just enjoy the way objects can be arranged better. Preference I know just saying.

@CadeRoux ZING!

@AaronBertrand Are you buying a new Mac Pro soon?
so you can get Thunderbolt

Normally it's just a night shot of Boston.

6:54 PM
@bluefeet if they come out with one that supports thunderbolt, yes, and exceeds the 96 GB limitation

@bluefeet @AaronBertrand will you autograph your old Mac Pro and auction it off? :)

@Zane I need my widgets - like calendars - and the new widgets on the unlock screen rock in Jelly Bean 4.2.1.

@swasheck I like that idea

I love my Mac Pro as well

@FaheemMitha Ah, so it worked

6:55 PM
My only issue is work access with it

@CadeRoux my widgets are on the screen's left and right of that. E-mail on one and spotify on the other.

@Lamak Yes, it did. Thanks.

sadly, I haven't used Postgres, like, ever....don't know if I have another idea

i was talking with @SQLKiwi (where'd he go, btw) about how i had a minimal linux install with a bunch of VMs running on it. that'd be my ideal setup.

@bluefeet does your work use some wonky VPN client not supported on Mac?

6:56 PM
@Lamak ping @dezso or @ErwinBrandstetter

@AaronBertrand Juniper

@bluefeet for work access I connect to VPN then within a Windows VM do the things I need to do
@bluefeet sorry, no experience with that one.

Things were great until apple pulled the java from the OS

@bluefeet you can install Oracle's Java - if you dare

@Lamak Oh, no problem. Your answer was very helpful.

6:57 PM
@swasheck Hey, to me, if I think Postgres, your name came to mind

What you think Jeff Atwood is coming out with next month (project Tie Fighter)?

@AaronBertrand It is a combination of awful between my company being out of date getting the connection up and running

@bluefeet I tried to avoid that update for ages (for fear it would mess with GoToMeeting, Citrix etc.) and then one day I blindly clicked install, oops.

@Lamak i am teh sux at SQL. i'm more of a manage/admin in the pg world

@AaronBertrand we have too. I have a MacPro and then my spouse has an iMac. They were WFH yesterday logged out last night and then forgot something and had to logged back in. It will no longer connect

6:58 PM
@AaronBertrand I don't think you really want Java on any platform right now with the vulnerabilities regularly coming out.

@AaronBertrand don't the new retina models support thunderbolt?

We even did a rollback with the time machine last night to yesterday morning to try and connect and nothing

@CadeRoux Our IT department has been telling us to disable Java every other week it seems.

the RAM is an issue though :/

@Zane Kind of impossible since there is enterprise stuff that uses Java. It's like COBOL for the desktop and likely to linger even longer. It's like run COBOL everywhere.

7:01 PM
@CadeRoux like a stale fart ...

gah, this always happens when this discussion comes up...you said mac pro, not MBP :) sorry

@CadeRoux for a while I had to use it (was the only way to run GoToMeeting)

indeed
i would have deleted them, but it was too late. oh well

holy sidways snow

seriously shoot me
@bluefeet I'm having problems with the last query you gave me. It's jumping records, as you will see here SQLFiddle Sorry I'm such a bother! — CalvT 2 mins ago

7:06 PM
Wow what a disaster

@bluefeet stalker is back, too
@bluefeet is this just useful or brilliant? In a quest of getting a great feature :) — bonCodigo Jan 8 at 16:56

He will not leave me alone
@swasheck yes that was the start of it

@bluefeet He should have to pay with more rep somehow, like per-comment/response.

Does anyone know if chat logs are as permanent as the site question/answers?

so err, what's the timelimit to delete your own chat messages? :)

7:08 PM
@FaheemMitha Yes, pretty much

@CadeRoux Good. Thanks.

@DTest if you can't delete any more, a mod can do it for you. I've had to request that assistance a couple of times after some outbursts and when I realized they would be a permanent record.
@DTest but I would say only bother them for serious things, not your comment about the MacBook Pro. :-)

@AaronBertrand right, my thoughts exactly

One can see that this room was original proposed to be call the Index. Probably withdrawn once somebody proposed calling it a clustered index and then there was an argument about the key and GUIDs and they called the whole thing off.

7:11 PM
the "offensive" flag gets their attention.
i flagged myself as offensive one time to get a chat removed :)

hah
i think about a year ago, i flagged a jcole comment as offensive
sheerily out of ignorant attempt at being funny
ps don't do an action unless you know what that action does....i thought it actually raised a flag in chat, and not so much pinged all the moderators :)
and high-rep users

nice
well-played @AaronBertrand

@DTest Yes, I went off on some bit of technology one time and they swarmed the room because I used normal programmer language.

So last night I fixed a massive SQL T Log file, now I have massive SQL T Log backup file. do i just treat that like a normal T Log backup ?

@Patrick I can't imagine what else you would want to do with it
You could always start your log chain over, I suppose, and discard the older log backups...

7:24 PM
@CadeRoux just the web plug-in

...or just let it get processed as normal and only worry about it if you have to recover before your next full backup. Are you using log shipping, mirroring, etc.?

@AaronBertrand I was mainly just curious if it was something special now, or do i just treat it like the rest of our T Log backups and delete it after 2 weeks. it's a 180gb for a 3mb database.

how is a t-log file "fixed?"

@swasheck I assume it blew out of control and then the "fix" was a shrink

@AaronBertrand ah

7:27 PM
@ypercube No, the query doesn't preserve the grouping in general. It does most of the time, but that is just because the db doesn't happen to rearrange it very much.

@swasheck yeah, the backup type for the T Log was full instead of Transaction so it was constantly growing, then last night i figured out how to fix that. and now it's back under control again.

@Patrick so wait, is your database currently in full or simple?

@Patrick what that indicates is that you're not backing up the db ... or you had a crapload of CRUD

@AaronBertrand it's full. just the T Log wasn't being backed up properly

@ypercube I thought that @Lamak was using the same ordering.

7:29 PM
@Faheem: In your question, you used a different ORDER BY than Lamaks'. If Lamak's query worked, why don't you keep that ordering (and use window fucntions as you prefer)?

@Patrick ah ok. Well if you need to keep the ability to restore to any point in time in the past two weeks, you'll have to keep that t-log file along with all the others, until it is two weeks old. If you don't need that ability, you can safely delete it (and may as well delete all the others at that point) once you take your next full (+at least 1 t-log to be safe).

@AaronBertrand thank you, because of it's size, i just wanted to make sure. We take nightly full backups and log backups every 2 hours. I will just delete this backup when it's older than 2 weeks like normal

@ypercube Well, I don't really understand Lamak's query.

@Patrick have you figured out what caused your backups to go sideways?

@swasheck the t-log grew because he wasn't backing up the log

7:34 PM
@AaronBertrand yeah. sorry ... lost the thread

@swasheck the person that setup the routine for the T-Log backup had it set to doing full backups instead of transaction log backups.

@swasheck and I assume the big t-log backup was the first one.

Can you force 12/31/2012 into Quarter 1 2013?

Q: Find Quarter from first day of the week

user1970945I am trying to find the Quarter from the firstday of the week. For example, The first day of the week is 12/31/2012 I want the quarter to say Q1 2013. But if I find the Qtr from the specific date it says Q4 2012.

@bluefeet sure, use a calendar table.

@AaronBertrand @Patrick but i'm still confused. full backups truncate the log, right? unless you're using a ISV backup solution that does something different.

7:35 PM
without a calendar table?

@swasheck why do you think a full backup truncates the log?

I hate when companies request that sort of information.

@swasheck my server says no, unless that wasn't the problem and i some how fixed it somwhere else

@bluefeet with much more convoluted inline conditionals...

@AaronBertrand ok thanks

7:37 PM
@AaronBertrand i have no idea why i thought that, but i did. so thanks for disabusing me
@Patrick whoopsie on my part

I have to make our reporting know what each customer considers the first day of the week. Some of them use Wednesday.

@bluefeet probably something clever comparing datepart(day) and datepart(weekday) % 7 etc.

@ypercube Ok, if that is what he is doing, then that looks problematic to me, because if there is a tie for avg_pval DESC, avg_margstat, then I don't see why the db would have them kept in separate groups. This doesn't seem to happen in practice, but I bet one could see this if margstat was removed.

@Zane you should have a CompanySettings table with a datefirst. Then when you run reporting queries issue SET DATEFIRST @CompanyDateFirst etc.

and i quote Gail Shaw, "Full Backup

The full database backup copies the entire contents of the database to the backup file. The full backup also includes enough of the transaction log to allow for the backup to be restored into a transactionally consistent state. It does not truncate the transaction log."
my bad

7:39 PM
I do I have a site settings table that basically sets what day of week in the calendar table should be their start of week

@FaheemMitha if the query works now, why don't you worry about things that might happen in practice when they actually happen in practice?

@Faheem: That's why Lamak had a 3rd and 4th ordering column (datafile_id and index).

@AaronBertrand I just find the concept of a Wednesday to Wednesday week to be very obnoxious. lol

@AaronBertrand Dunno. I've got a theoretical training. Math, actually. It's a hard disease to recover from.

@Zane yeah a "media week" is Monday to Sunday.
Equally annoying.

7:41 PM
We had one customer who wants to ignore leap years....

I bet the record industry (what's left of it) is Tuesday -> Monday, and the movie industry is Friday -> Thursday. Except when holidays let movies open earlier and still call it the weekend...

Monday to Sunday is standard in Greece at least (and probably in other european countries)

@ypercube Hmm. Let me think about it.

@Zane ignore leap years entirely, or just ignore Feb. 29?

@AaronBertrand that sounds about right from my experience, but I wonder if the movie industry isn't Tu->Mo, on account of stuff like Les Mis opening on Christmas, etc.

7:42 PM
Ignore entirely.

@ypercube Yes, I think that might work. Let me try it.

@jcolebrand that's true for that week, like I said about holidays...

Q: how should my program save images in a database?

soheil.mernooshI have a SQL Server database. my Java program interacts with that and inserts, updates, deletes and... .now, my program must save some images for each user of program so that they can find the images later. What is the best way for my program to save images in a database? Should I read the image...

We told them no.

Let's submit a bunch of answers that re-state the problem. "Well, you can store it on the file system, or you can store it in the database."

@AaronBertrand nobody wants to come down on an answer and get blasted for not thinking of other implications

7:46 PM
No no, you can store it in the database or write it to a BLOB field

@AaronBertrand my brain totally missed that line.
wtf brain?
@AaronBertrand oh god, if that wasn't one of our first FAQ here ...

That has got to be the highest locked topic of all time.

Yay downvotes!
Downvote ALL THE ANSWERS!

@bluefeet facepalm

@jcolebrand well, they're bad answers.

7:49 PM
yay. a "popular question."

Q: What is the difference between ALTER INDEX and DBCC DBREINDEX?

swasheckIs the only difference between ALTER INDEX [index_name] on [object_name] REBUILD with (ONLINE=OFF, FILLFACTOR=90) and DBCC DBREINDEX([dbname], 90) just that the DBCC command will reindex all of the indexes on all of the tables in the database?

@ypercube Yes, I think you're right.

@Zane Oh, that Montana girl.
hyperbole and a half or something

@AaronBertrand They are indeed. I downvoted all three

@jcolebrand oh, I perceived sarcasm

7:50 PM
@ypercube Do you feel like answering it?

sorry
As a matter of fact, my comments mirror the top answer on the linked Q, and I hadn't even read that yet.

@jcolebrand I saw a call to downvote being flagged in the php room, the other day. But then, what do they know?

@jcolebrand s'ok. Can we delete it so I can get my 3 rep back? :-)

It has been extremely ugly today.

Not because I care about 3 rep, I just like round numbers, because I'm - you know - Rain Man. 10 minutes to Wapner.

7:51 PM
@AaronBertrand nice

@ypercube there's a difference between a room full of experts all agreeing that it's a shitty Q and should be closed post-haste, and all the half/non answers be deleted ... and a piss-and-moan party. Never seen the PHP room like that ;-)
Plus, I get to handle flags in this room >.>

@ypercube have they at least made the transition to mysqli yet?

@AaronBertrand I can't delete on SO yet :-\
But I closed it, that's my contribution :D

@jcolebrand you can't vote to delete?
@jcolebrand does that require 20K?

@AaronBertrand it does.
I'm 240 rep of the 10k I still need >.<

7:53 PM
@AaronBertrand I believe so, if you want to vote to delete immediately

Ah, ok
@Lamak how do you "vote to delete immediately" vs. "vote to delete"?

10K users can still vote to delete, right?....just on questions closed a few days ago

that felt good ... i just burnt a lot of rep on that question

But I did flag it to be deleted

Shouldn't we wait a bit, so the OP actually reads the comments and why it was closed?

7:54 PM
@Lamak oh can I? I should look into that

@AaronBertrand I believe that there is a difference when you vot to delete a recently closed question

@ypercube NO! ;p

Oh I see. I thought you meant snap your fingers and the question is deleted.

and vote to delete a question that was closed 5 days ago
@AaronBertrand Oh, moderators only

@ypercube if it is closed as a duplicate, they should get that notification, shouldn't they?

7:55 PM
ok, snapped.

@ypercube then they can visit the duplicate, rather than all the nonsense on that page (3 non-answers)

@jcolebrand not sure, I was kinda asking here

@Lamak :-\ I don't know either

@ypercube kablammo

@AaronBertrand Yes, I think so. I only remember I had a hard time when I tried to find one my deleted questions.
And I'm not really sure that the 1-rep OP can see his question now. Can he?

7:58 PM
@ypercube <shrug> not sure. But if he doesn't get some kind of inbox/notification that his question was closed and why, then I think that's a problem with the system, not with what we did.
Anyway, play time is over, have a good weekend everyone!
