Invoice that analysis.
I don't mean to alarm you, but your entire IT infrastructure seems to have disappeared.

@M'vy Dreams has no swearing at all!
Slam Trance maybe one rude word
This Kiss - erm, don't think so
Kommitment - is an instrumental
(I think)

@ScottPack Thanks to Obama.

@RoryAlsop Well, maybe they just put it by default. Idk

@Rory What's the correct pronunciation of "Rory"? Is the "o" pronounced as in "Book"?

2:10 PM
I've always said r-or-ee
Listen to the robotic overlaird

@Adnan it's like a lion roar with a y on the end

@RоryMcCune Really?! Did you just confuse me with @kalina?

@Adnan I realized that too late, in fact, as you can see I voted it as duplicated
=)

@Adnan My name now is like Rory said, but it was originally pronounced Roo-arr-eee

@Adnan I'd like to say yes, but no, I had half typed a message to her, not bothered sending then left it on the line

2:13 PM
@ScottPack Understood nothing
@RоryMcCune Interesting. I've always pronounced it as "Roory".
@RoryAlsop How/why did it change?

Ale

@Adnan I like @Scott's answer, but no, for me it was peer pressure: The midwife persuaded my mum that no-one would be able to pronounce Ruaraidh
so it was changed to Rory in time for my birth certificate

Was that really a concern for the Orkneys?

Yup - Orkney is very much in league with Denmark and Norway - those folks to the south across the Pentland Firth are ferryloupers - foreigners

Fair enough.

2:17 PM
Orkeny was owned by Denmark until recently

Define recently.
I'm a merkin, remember?
Our recentlies could be very different.

late 1400's I think

@RoryAlsop @AviD @JeffFerland How are we coming on fixing this?

See? Different.

What do I mean by linked ads In th...

2:19 PM
@ScottPack I like the fact that in 995 Orkney became entirely Christian - the threat from Olav was "I order you and all your subjects to be baptised. If you refuse, I'll have you killed on the spot and I swear I will ravage every island with fire and steel"
Jarl Sigurd agreed to this :-)

Sounds like a rather pragmatic decision.

@RoryAlsop heh my mum thought that with the burden of spelling mccune, adding ruaridgh in there would be cruel..

hahahaha
yup
I did get a proper Orkney middle name though
which is nice

@ScottPack BTW you do know what a merkin is right?

@RоryMcCune I think I did link to a NSFW picture some time ago as part of this conversation
maybe late 2012?
recently :-)

2:22 PM
Rory Åsbjørn Alsop
@RоryMcCune Yes, yes I do.

@RoryAlsop @ScottPack cool

@ScottPack Assborn?

Check out the names on here of Orkney Jarls/Earls:
Orkney () also known as the Orkney Islands, is an archipelago in northern Scotland, north of the coast of Caithness. Orkney comprises approximately 70 islands, of which 20 are inhabited. The largest island, known as the "Mainland" has an area of making it the sixth largest Scottish island and the tenth-largest island in the British Isles. The largest settlement and administrative centre is Kirkwall. The name "Orkney" dates back to the 1st century BC or earlier, and the islands have been inhabited for at least 8,500 years. Originally occupied by Mesolithic and Neolithic tribes and then...

Dont americans call that a "breech baby"?

@AviD It's pronounce Ors Byorn

2:23 PM
@RоryMcCune I also find that the people who use the word 'Merican seriously are probably more appropriately defined by the other spelling.
Like the Swedish Chef!

hahahahaha

@RoryAlsop Assborn? Arse born? Ass? Ass ruh born?
nope, cant pronounce it.

Å is pronounced Or

I've always liked the name Sigurd. Sounds manly.

jor is prounounced like "
your"

2:24 PM
I'm thinking like in GoT, Stormborn, Ironborn, Assborn.

@ScottPack I had a Sigurd, a Thorfinn, a Sweyn and a Magnus in my school
as well as an Einar and an Erlend

@RoryAlsop okay Magnus is like the most manly name there is.
Unless it gets shortened to Maggie.

@RoryAlsop As someone who grew up entirely surrounded by poor people of Scotch/Irish issue that sounds awesome.

I love the way this room's order of topic priority is fairly well enforced. I try to bring up something remotely related to the site, and Rory wins.

Nice. The Icelandic broke the oneboxer

2:27 PM
@Iszi hahaha - sorry. I'll read it now

Magnus IS the world's strongest man. Ever.
@ScottPack no, the @AviD broke it.

And is my middle name...
nuff said
@Iszi - hang on...fixing what?

Or this guy
Magnus Samuelsson (born on December 21, 1969), is a Swedish actor, former strongman and winner of the 1998 World's Strongest Man contest in Morocco. The son of a former Swedish female arm wrestling champion, he has also been ranked among the best arm wrestlers in the world and was a European Arm Wrestling champion prior to becoming a professional strongman. Career Samuelsson holds the record for reaching the World's Strongest Man finals 10 times, a feat which he achieved over a 13 year span from 1995-2007. He has also achieved a podi...

@RoryAlsop yeah I got confused too.

@RoryAlsop @Avid Having a migration option as a non-migrating close-vote option.

2:29 PM
@Iszi ahh - yes, that problem. Did you raise a meta q about that a while back?
If not, I'll raise one and ping the devs again

@RoryAlsop Nah, I've probably just been continuously griping about that in here.
It's easier than having to write a whole essay in Meta.

@RoryAlsop hang on, we dont need devs for that. I think.

@AviD Oh, so it's your fault it's not fixed yet?

Sorry @Iszi, we can't discuss actual site topics. We're too busy lamenting over how freaking awesome Nordic names are.
3

@AviD are you sure - I thought that was in the non-editable area

2:30 PM
okay, @Iszi - I deactivated it. Now come up with a replacement reason.

wooop

@AviD 404 for me. And we still don't have a custom 404?
@AviD I vote we bring back Too Localized!

@Iszi of course, you no admin.
@Iszi whats wrong with a localized question?
nevermind.
so what are the most common custom close reasons?
is that accessible in the datadump? Data.se query anybody?

Another option: Something for questions that are of the format "How did [insert recent high-profile breach] happen?" or "[insert high-profile breach] just happened - what do I do?"

@Iszi breach.

2:33 PM
@AviD Assborn

or how about "here are my logs, tell me what happened"
@ScottPack hahahaha

I wonder if we should start referring to security breaches as assborns.
2

until then:
> This question does not appear to be about Information security within the scope defined in the help center.
@ScottPack hahaha
I think that word just makes me laugh

@AviD Will the replacement retroactively apply?

2:36 PM
@Iszi no

Or, Can I use SEC.SE as my personal army?

Good. 'Cause that could result in some wrong-looking stuff.

@AviD works for me

Oh, this is interesting. Relevant to this question:
32
Q: Is it possible to turn a computer into a bomb?

RookI know this newspaper article sounds absurd. Even if a machine is compromised we (should) have hardware safe guards in all our devices to prevent the software from damaging the hardware. But is it possible to make a computer explode or catch fire? Has this ever been done?

2:38 PM
done

@Iszi Ok, why the hell didn't that OneBox?
Oh, SSL is breaking OneBox again.

@Iszi you could add this update to that question if you want
Probably not worth adding a new answer at this stage, but a comment or an addition to Rook's answer could be good
or I can do it

If you place your mouse pointer very near to the tags
around the zone I have marked in red
you will see how your pointer goes crazy changing between "the hand" and "the arrow" due to the resize of the button (the hover property)

@kiBytes Hoover as in the president, or the vacuum cleaner?

@Iszi - I have updated Rook's answer

2:46 PM
Just at the botton of the button square

Totally can't wait for this to happen: cloakandblaster.com

@Iszi xD zorry
oh, zorry is spanglish as well, so here it comes another kiBytes Spanish lesson

"Everything you ever wanted - The Store"

"bitch" in spanish is "zorra" (zorra is pronounced as "zo" would be like the "c" in "excel" but instead an e after the c sound, you put a "o" like in "top", rra is pronounced like "ra" in "raquet")
in English sorry is "sorry" (as you may know)
so, here in Spain, as slang we use to use "zorry" with the same meaning as "sorry" in English but is a word play

@AviD That is an incredibly eclectic set of items.

2:54 PM
@Scott - just while I remember, check out these two names: Thorfinn Skull-splitter, King Eric Bloodaxe
Skullsplitter Ale is named after Thorfinn

@ScottPack It's like a Guy store.
The Man Show Store.

@AviD With nipple lighteners.

ha, did not see that one

I was just looking at some attack traffic in my web logs and it got me to thinking.

2:55 PM
@kiBytes So, that's to say "Sorry, bitch"?

Is there any programming language other than PHP that would download a URL and then execute the data in a single built-in function call?

@RoryAlsop I have NO idea. But great for a prank, no?
> The piece is recommended for philosophically-charged art and oddity collectors, the S&M crowd, and individuals whose intelligence is inversely proportional to their bank accounts.

sigh So my old boss gave us Amazon gift cards for Christmas. Awfully nice really, and I'm trying to find something that I want to spend it on.

cat battle armour

@ScottPack You're just trying to get someone to onebox that 20-gallons of lube again aren't you?

2:58 PM
@Iszi no, it is just "sorry" but with a word play

@RoryAlsop I don't have cat.

"it looks like you are going to say "zorra" but you actually say "zorry" so it is "sorry""

@Ladadadada That wasn't my explicit intention, no.

word plays for a language don't usually make sense in other language...

@ScottPack That's more of a Comms Room thing.

3:00 PM
even more, they are not usually funny for foreigners

@Ladadadada A bit.

3:17 PM
@AviD Post a Meta question.

A META QUESTION?
FOR WHAT?
WHAT ARE WE METAING ABOUT

Don't you worry your sweet little face.

@Iszi you post the meta question.

@ScottPack that avatar is not a picture of kalina. You are making an assumption about 'sweet' that may or may not be correct
:-)

@RoryAlsop meh

3:23 PM

@kalina agaaaaiiiinn???

browsers!!! \o/
what do you mean "again"

Image not found for me

@kalina It's old. Probably been posted here a few times already.

you're too casual @Rory
@Iszi I have never posted it and that's all that matters

3:25 PM
@kalina I wonder what that means

:D

I'm certainly not wearing a tie, and have fell-running shoes on right now
pretty casual

and what do you mean you rejected some of my flags?

Telling the backup guitarist of a glam blues/funk/metal/goth band they're too casual?
4

@RoryAlsop Fell-running? Sounds like that would hurt.

3:26 PM
...that's possibly true @kalina - which ones?
@Iszi like cross-country running

I don't know, I don't care enough to make a big deal about it

@ScottPack LEAD guitarist
jeez

lol

I suspect that since they were all on the same question that you must love that question and its crappy horrible comments on it

@Iszi I assumed it was a typo. Running shoes made out of felt.

3:27 PM
@RoryAlsop At least I didn't call you a bassist. :)

I think all the flags I looked at today were good and I acted accordingly

@ScottPack that's bassist

@AviD Is fell running only a UK thing?

I thought Erik was singer/lead?

@ScottPack oooh the Flaggellator is gonna be upset.

3:27 PM
@kalina Well done.

Erik is singer/rhythm guitar

@RoryAlsop even I never heard of it.

@RoryAlsop well that's good, it means I can hate on the mod that rejected them rather than the one I like
glares at @AviD

@RoryAlsop That seems like an odd combination to me.
That's like the drummer/lead vocals.

@ScottPack singers can't play lead - they are singers

3:28 PM
Sure, it happens, but wut?

@kalina stares at the ceiling
pretends to be working

drummers can't sing - see Phil Collins

incidentally

hey! I thought I was the mod you liked!

@fei has a new ping script
so if you say fire
or SEScripts
or @fei
he gets notified
so make sure that there are lots of discussions about fire

3:29 PM
fire

@AviD I'm fickle, it changes like the wind
fire

earth

...

heart

@fei

3:29 PM
@kalina Was that really necessary, dear?

benatar

fire
@FEichinger yes

@ScottPack nicely done.

Well, thanks for the screenshots, then.

@ScottPack No, you got in too early.

3:30 PM
@FEichinger screenshots?
of what?

It's Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Heart

@kalina Of the script in action.

@Iszi what are you on about?

@FEichinger no

Well hello Pandora. Mumford and Sons to NIN (live). Not jarring at all.

3:31 PM
Earth Wind & Fire. Heart. Pat Benatar.

you don't get to profit out of my notifying you

bored now
bye

@kalina Actually, yes.

Earth, Wind & Fire is an American band that has spanned the musical genres of R&B, soul, jazz, pop, rock, funk, disco, latin, african and gospel. They are one of the most successful and critically acclaimed bands of the twentieth century. Rolling Stone has described them as "innovative, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing" and has also declared that the band "changed the sound of black pop". Also known as EWF, the band was founded in Chicago by Maurice White in 1969. Other members have included Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Ralph Johnson, Larry Dunn, and Al McKay. The...

3:31 PM
Wow. Great choice of non-relevant image there, OneBox.

@Iszi It would have been funnier if that was poison ivy.

Poison Ivy (Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley) is a fictional character, a DC Comics supervillainess who is primarily an enemy of Batman. Created by Robert Kanigher and Sheldon Moldoff, she first appeared in Batman #181 (June 1966). Poison Ivy is depicted as one of the world's most prominent eco-terrorists. She is obsessed with plants, botany, and environmentalism. She uses toxins from plants and mind controlling pheromones for her criminal activities, which are usually aimed at protecting the natural environment. Fellow villain Harley Quinn became her recurring partner-in-crime and possibly he...

@AviD Damn. Beat me to it.

but then we have to mention this

@ScottPack I love the random function on my empeg. I have customised a few searches, such as random biased towards lower plays with a preference (bell curve) for the late eighties, for example

3:35 PM
@AviD Image not found.

generally works well, but occasionally weird mixes

@AviD What's wrong with Uma Thurman?

@Iszi huh

@AviD Still not found. Link works though.

@AviD guessing my corporate filter blocks that for some reason

3:36 PM
This seems like a generally bad idea

@RoryAlsop no, its not found here either. must be wiki

Didn't onebox right, but comes up if you click on it.

@ScottPack bad idea, or awesome??

It can be both.

I'm considering it as a more flexible replacement for a shotgun, when it comes to teenage boys.

3:42 PM
@AviD To use on or to give?

@TerryChia I have a teenage daughter. What do you think?

@AviD Heh.

@Iszi you have that comic where the new father is discussing shotgun options with the doctor in the birthing room?

@AviD Yeah, but I don't think adjusting your slingbow when they come over for the first meet & greet is quite as impressive a sight as cleaning your shotgun.
@AviD Should I?

@Iszi yeah, you've linked it here before.
dont remember which / when....

3:44 PM
@Iszi Aren't you comics guy?

@Iszi I dunno, if you want to go with impressing setting walk away from the shotgun and be cleaning the Desert Eagle AE .50 with extended clip.

@Iszi ah, but you can actually use it, non-lethally if you choose. Nothing quite like a threat that you've tasted.

I'd be much more nervous about a guy who had a shoulder holster and one of those than someone with a shotgun.

@AviD You can use a shotgun non-lethally as well. Ever hear the phrase "shoot to maim"?

@ScottPack sure, but with those cynical bastards today, they're not going to believe that you would ever use it, anyway. With the slingbow, you can start off by shooting them in the leg. They will definitely take you seriously after that.

3:46 PM
There's also the rock salt trick.

Especially when you aim a little bit higher up.

@Lucas @Adnan What are your thoughts of attempting OSCP in a month if I dedicate the entire period to it? Enough time?

@Iszi Or club.
Then again, the DE could probably club just as well

@TerryChia Online Certificate Status Protocol?

@TerryChia Depends on how you define "entire period" and yourself.
@TerryChia I think you could go through the course material reasonably in a normal work week.

3:48 PM
@Iszi yes, but like I said - you wouldnt really use it for anything less than life threatening situations, and they know it.

@TerryChia well thats just confusing.

@TerryChia The real time you want to put into it is practicing the skills.

@AviD That's what they say about your face.
@ScottPack Yeah, was wondering if 30 days is enough.. Hmm...
I'm reasonably free for a few months if I don't find any jobs or internships...

@TerryChia It's been a number of years but I'd say it's probably 40-60 hours worth of instruction (including some lab time). Anything after that is really all up to you.

3:52 PM
@ScottPack If that's the case 30 days is probably enough...
But it will cost $800... ugh decisions...

It's gone up.
That also includes a certification try.
No?

@ScottPack Yep. 30 days lab access and certification attempt.

When I did it it was 650 (I think?).
Not bad considering it was much the same content and terms as a SANS course that normally runs about ~4k

Is it normal for the Google Webmaster tools to report large lists of 404s for pages that no longer exist?

Without the exam.

3:55 PM
And if so, how long does it usually take before Google conclude that those pages no longer actually exist

It's definitely something nice to have on my resume... then again I won't be in the job market for another 5 years at least so I could do it later.

@TerryChia You say that, but having it on your resume and then working at various things (eg academia) for a couple of years helps an employer see that you may have used it
= value to an employer

Also keep in mind cert experiation and retesting, though.
And why 5 years?
