@kce Also, because the Netapp snapshots are API compliant, you can make the applications Netapp aware. We have Netbackup using snapshots for its backups, for example
@Iain It's cute since you can see the crash followed by the ambulance ride. Unfortunately, mobile device didn't come on the helicopter with me. (Nor wallet, nor keys.)
@ewwhite Because of Stupid Right Wingers we call it "climate change" now (because they don't seem to understand that "global warming" means "Fucked up weather patterns, sometimes more snow, sometimes more deserts"
@kce If by startup you mean "Faux business terminally incapable of making enough money to pay people so they hand out equity like candy on Halloween" then yes.
(The ones you start and run yourself suck the most - not because everything is done wrong, but because making sure it's getting done right is a soul-killing experience)
How long do you "discovery"? I mean how long do you wait before you start pushing for infrastructure changes? We have way to much XP but I don't want to come off like I'm the new sheriff in town.
@voretaq7 In fairness the plant goes through warming and cooling phases; this is far from the most green house gasses ever in the atmosphere; and the "damage" we're doing is almost guaranteed to fix itself over the next few hundred thousand years, maybe a few million at the most.
@kce Meaning some applications have backup modes that support storage snapshots. Just plug in what it needs to issue the command and access its snapshot, and it'll be as application consistent as it gets
@voretaq7 - That was about my timeline as well. Business has expanded but I don't know if their IT infrastructure has expanded to match it. Practices that make sense when you have 30 employees don't when you have 120.
I've never worked in an organization where I didn't have at least a basic idea of the infrastructure and some priority projects after 3 months. If your infrastructure is small it may take less time :)
@voretaq7 - They want to hold off on XP because they want to replace those machines with a thin client solution. I'm a fan of the 80% solution now instead of the 100% solution later but I think I'll bring it up again.
@kce Just take the initiative and fix everything. "Hey guys, I noticed you were still on XP, so I spun up an SCCM server and migrated everything to Windows 7 for you. And then set the disk to read only, so it's like a thin client. You're welcome."
@KevinSoviero Because you become the computer bitch for everything and end up doing nothing but teaching people how to type the right shit into IE. Or access the menu they want in Excel. Or remind them where a fileshare is. It usually ends in blood.
@KevinSoviero That doesn't work well for pilots, cyclists, outdoorsmen, people who drink, people who have sex, people who have children, etc. I don't fit the 24/7/365 demographic.
@Skyhawk That doesn't work for people who... live. Six months before you're muttering to imaginary friends and trying to hang yourself from a ceiling fan.
@Skyhawk We did this cool thing with OCS where we used it to pull data about every workstation and then used Python to automatically piece together where each printer in the entire school likely was... It worked out pretty well.
@mfinni I've heard counting lift totals for competition, never counted for a daily workout. have to get the ball rolling consistently, have fallen off after marriage
@BigHomie Heh - I've watched some of his stuff on the youtubes. Since I go to a CF gym, I mostly just follow the in-house coach programming. I've stopped-and-started the Wendler 5/3/1 program several times, seem to never have the time to complete a wave
@KevinSoviero That seems counter to society, but not my concern. Usually that's how it works, but uh what's wrong with just asking to have {person} move in.
Anyone here have a GSD (German Shepherd Dog)? I don't think I can have any other dog, they're like wolves w/o the whole getting-mauled-in-your-sleep thing.

The question is here: Did the US ban the Volkswagon XL1 for being too fuel efficient?
More than one person has commented on it saying that asking about motivation is off topic. That's fine, my actual question isn't asking someone to read minds. If the car is indeed banned for sale in the USA, th...
@JohnD I knew a guy who was the Sr. at a fairly well known art gallery. Users relied on terminal services and thin clients for their every day computing usage. He got fed up with A/V issues so worked hard over time to bring everyone down to regular user levels, made a permissions profile for each application, and then removed A/V. Never had a problem.
