3:00 PM
weiiiiiiiiiiird

@Bob I quite like the front button personally, it's fairly close to where my thumb falls naturally when pulling the phone out of my pocket

why is this thing not picking up the network
maye this ubuntu iso is screwed, tho it works previously
:(

@Bob yeah I like the Xperia placement. I dunno how often I use the side power button instead of the front but it's probably quite often, and having it under there means no repositioning or reaching at all when I do

Bob
@Annaduh I tend to grip the phone higher up

I'm just glad basically nobody puts power buttons on top anymore

Bob
3:02 PM
@Annaduh yea I usually use the power button on the S7
it's usually button + swipe for me

@Bob ah. I usually use it one handed and have my little finger hold it up from the bottom where the USB port is

Bob
(since no PIN/fingerprint lock as long as it's within range of watch)

I generally don't trust it or me enough to hold it from the back only and not slip

Bob
@Annaduh I go three fingers left, index back, thumb right

@Bob my smart watch has spent more time broken / in repair than it's has been working so I had to give up on it
@Bob yeah I only really do that indoors or sitting down.

Bob
3:03 PM
lol
@Annaduh which watch was it?

Small hands, like Trump
@Bob that's about how I hold it while about to make a phone call

Bob
I think I'm fine with just photos copied off... hm.
Gonna copy off the TiB folder too just in case

Or when just turning it on/off to check the time. Can't reach anything further than the Y on the keyboard using my thumb if I hold it with 3 fingers on the left

sigh

@Bob lol mine's on my (recently failed and replaced again) micro SD card

3:05 PM
having to start up this vm on 256Mb because not enough ram.

@Bob Uhh sounds like you have encryption off or something
@djsmiley2k :O

Bob
@Annaduh Yea. Which is a good thing in this case :P

I need to take 16GB out of my laptop

:O
Idon't think all my devices at home together have 16GB :(

@Bob 100% sure way to check encryption: install TWRP and see if you can see/access/backup your data
@djsmiley2k o_O
My laptop has 32GB... When watching videos with hardware acceleration on the RAM is the single highest power draining component :-/

Bob
3:07 PM
@Annaduh That's actually a great idea but right now I feel like just taking the plunge :P
@Annaduh Wait. Does a full update flash stock recovery too?

16GB would halve the RAM power and still be enough to live on
@Bob yes

Bob
@Annaduh lol. when RAM becomes a power issue
@Annaduh so the update will remove TWRP anyway?

Just flashing the AP still does that cause AP contains boot, recovery, and system.img

Bob
that's actually a really good excuse for installing it :P

@Bob lol

Bob
3:08 PM
@Annaduh then wtf is the point of BL?
and i have no idea what CP is
I guess BL is separate from boot?

@Bob shrug
Maybe boot as in initrd vs boot as in bootloader
Turns out there was this super cute girl sitting next to me on the bus the whole time but I didn't notice till I got off cause I was busy talking about flashing phones in an Internet chat room.
#Nerd
Oh ONE regression in Nougat... Always on display is gone from the quick toggles in the top of the notification screen
My new old phone
Old New phone?

Bob
@Annaduh meh :P
@Annaduh did you use CF root?
> CF-Autoroot is not compatible with Nougat 7 roms and firmwares.
fack

3:25 PM
@Bob :-o
The guides say just flash SuperSU

Bob
ugh, looks like I'll need TWRP then

But I only tried CF Auto Root funny enough

Bob
@Annaduh yea so apparently that doesn't work :S

@Bob some other guide told me to :-(

Bob
@Annaduh O_O

3:26 PM
Looks like they're not gonna be catching Mr wallet thief then

Bob
@Annaduh autoroot page lists 6.x firmware, and xda thread says !!no

@Bob yeah I saw that but my gut feeling told me to try it anyway what's the worst that could happen I have backups right?
Actually wrong but luckily nothing bad happened
Silly security Bollocks making it harder every time to do stuff Ive done on every previous phone
At least now it seems they've given up trying to hide ServiceMode functions any harder

hmmmmmmmmmm
looks like networks might of blocked my proxy access some how :/

@djsmiley2k which networks?

networks department here

3:29 PM
Ah

it's VBox currently set at NAT
it was working :/

Bob
ok, TWRP running :D

DPI has gotten pretty smart these days

Whoop
we can use new pound coins in the vending machines at work :O

@Bob can you still boot?

Bob
3:30 PM
@Annaduh no idea. still on Android 6
I wanted to take that nandroid backup

@Bob ah
I don't have any new pound coins
Or a vending machine
Or a work

@Annaduh and you use funny scottish money(s)

Holy crap it's 4:30pm already. And my battery is below 25% already
@JourneymanGeek we don't have separate coins, used to have a separate £1 note but got rid of it

Bob
hm
@Annaduh How do I check encryption from TWRP? :S
I have it in read-only mode ... and /data comes up empty

@Bob does your internal storage show up?

Bob
3:32 PM
that's... not graet

Oh
If you can't access data then it probably is encrypted

Bob
fml

Does internal storage show up as 0MB if you try to open an update file from it?
@Bob Meh, go to sleep, do stuff tomorrow. All is not lost. In fact, nothing is lost. Now you have extra backups.

Bob
@Annaduh yup

@Bob encrypted

Bob
3:36 PM
> Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer

roar
@Bob, any idea what network monitoring app @Annaduh is using? This has been on my mind for a while.

Bob
@bwDraco It's in the chat logs somewhere

the one that gives nifty 'live' figures?

Yeah.

reminds me of grkellmd
@Annaduh how do you get the live usage figuers on your phone btw?
bandwidth usage
even

Bob
3:44 PM
@Annaduh flashing!

:O
FLASHING!!!
/me begins to rotate wildly!

@Bob What why?

...I think I found it: play.google.com/store/apps/… (@djsmiley2k @Bob)

But you have no nandroid and you'll have no root
Living dangerously are we?

Bob
@Annaduh why not? :P

3:48 PM
@djsmiley2k An app
1 min ago, by Anna duh
But you have no nandroid and you'll have no root

1 min ago, by bwDraco
...I think I found it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.kfsoft.android.TrafficIndicat‌orPro (@djsmiley2k @Bob)
(this is the Pro version)

Pray you didn't click the CSC button >_>
I used to use something else but something else got old

Bob
@Annaduh nope. but I forgot to check the download actually finished before rebooting
so it might be stuffed anyway

@Bob o_0

Bob
hm. is that a bootloop o.O

3:50 PM
You manually rebooted during a flash?!

Bob
@Annaduh I had auto-reboot unticked for twrp
forgot to re-tick it

Oh
Derp

Bob
hm. flashing samsung logo no good, yea?

@Bob that's very bad
Or rather I've never seen that, even when I f***ed up majorly
@Bob: Also other reasons for getting the LTE-A S4: Newer/faster processor than the old S4

Bob
wait. real derp.
would've been smart to hit up before starting the flash

3:52 PM
2.3Ghz instead of 1.9Ghz, also 28nm HPM instead of older 28nm LPP
@Bob dafuq?

Bob
faiiiiiil.

What did you do -_-

@Annaduh ty when does it show adverts?

Bob
I tried to flash nougat while on the 'are you sure you want to enter download mode' screen
which did nothing
@Annaduh lemme just see if I can get a working phone after this
well it's all TiB'd anyway

put it back into dl mode

Bob
3:53 PM
lol
yea, properly flashign this time

dl mode saves everyone.

@Bob How'd you manage to get a flashing samsung logo from that?!

Bob
@Annaduh cause i went straight into TWRP and tried a supersu flash

@bwDraco I have a understanding of people.

Bob
which ... wasn't the smartest thing
this reminds me of my first post-root update...
ok, letting it auto-reboot normally

3:54 PM
yup
yey for dl mode

Bob
no TWRP yet this time

Bob
> Installing system update

Bob
> Erasing
O_O
> You can perform this action again in 10 seconds.

3:54 PM
@Bob Yup had that too, it's probably just erasing dalvik cache

!!s/Erasing/Erasing the planet/

Bob
GODDAMMIT CHAT LET ME TYPE MY STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS
2

It's not really very good LTE-A but it's still LTE-A
Cat 4 only but that's more than my main and secondary secondary networks manage anyway

Bob
Hm. Flashing Samsung logo still. Interesting.
Maybe I should just leave it for a bit this time? :P
Well, it's more a 'breathing' animation than flashing

3:55 PM
Uhh what the f
This phone is black not white (which is fine, cause I wanted black but only white was "in stock" but what the frick is THIS?!

Bob
> No command
w/ dead robot
uh oh.

@Bob before or after flashing supersu?

Bob
@Annaduh before, this time, but the last attempt might've broken my /data
@Annaduh LOL WHAT
is that normal?
can't be

WTF is that?
it's epic, but... wut
I've not seen a phone with an aerial in like....

3:59 PM
So much for identical to the S4 except for baseband chip on mainboard...
I was not expecting this at all... none of the reviews mentioned it
Not sure if fake or if wtf?

Bob
woot, I got a proper bootloop
it's now just going back to the galaxy s7 edge screen

Also, you have a LOT of chromes open
