there is a similar plan to build a mountain near berlin
probably won't work
plus their infrastructure isn't designed to cope with rain so the city will probably flood almost immediately

@Burgi I imagine the infrastructure upgrade would cost pennies compared to creating a mountain large enough to form clouds.

Depends on which of the states it is tho
If its dubai, they're f***ed
abu dhabi on the other hand... canny fellas.
As evidenced by the fact that the former "Burj el Dubai" is now named after the ruler of Abu Dhabi.
ok. Its the smart ones...
Still sounds like a very supervillan thing to do.

They could be employing a Operation Plowshare approach! Shaped nuclear explosions to heave the dirt into a mound.

whats wrong here

12:25 AM
@Burgi I remembered that
seemed more like a 'art' project that would never be done.
tuleap questions confuse me.

link?

Seems like they're using us for support, but I'm not sure if they belong here
1
Q: Tuleap: How to delete project

LaurentI am a beginner with Tuleap. I created two projects and want to delete one of them. How can I do that?

SO would smack it back immediately

Yup
I'm not looking to close. I'm wondering why so many questions on it turn up here

webapps maybe?

12:33 AM
and if its 'official' they should do a better job handling those questions too
Plausibly
I'm not looking at a mass migration tho
I'm trying to understand context

SU ranks really high on google and if there is very little other tuleap support maybe the users gravitate here naturally

plausible

their community support doesn't appear to be indexable by search engines

erf
I might meta this at some point

2:01 AM
@Burgi if its a computer , not a giraffe , then it should be on topic :-) Like phones if the question is about how it works together with the computer, it is ok still.
a router is a computer, a hdmi stick of the many kinds is a computer, ras Pi is computer, but somehow we can make a distinction that a tv that plays video from SD files is suddenly a giraffe ;-)
there are words for how stupid all this is, even if you dont find me using them often, because it does no good.

but my Giraffe can count in binary therefore its a computer! ;)

Hmm. Googling turing complete giraffe turns up nothing interesting. I am disappointed.
But yeah, that question seems OK.

2:31 AM
its a little confusingly written though

yes written like many, this is what comes out of my mind when I think of what I did. the next step is: This is what I did as explained well enough to go into your mind :-)
everything else is having to be interpreted painfully.

@Burgi Seems on topic
and reasonably possible to answer

maybe i'm getting too tired again and should try sleeping before i start crazily answering stuff again
not having a job seriously messes you body clock up :(
it sucks

Bob
2:46 AM
ugh
@JourneymanGeek I definitely feel off with these tablets

i think food, hayfever drowsy pills and mindless tv is in order

heh

Q: What does the Bob say?

CodeYogiDescription: Bob is a lackadaisical teenager. In conversation, his responses are very limited. Bob answers 'Sure.' if you ask him a question. He answers 'Whoa, chill out!' if you yell at him. He says 'Fine. Be that way!' if you address him without actually saying anything. ...

I'm watching openings of TV shows I used to love as a pup

hey @bob does this prove you are in actual fact a sim? ;)

Bob
2:49 AM
O_O With my name and avatar... this can't be a coincidence, can it? — Bob 15 secs ago
@allquixotic ^

"What does the fox say?" Whatevs"

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Oh, did you hear back from the river?

Not yet
Hoping for this week

@JourneymanGeek great (dog) pics. although i am not sure if some of them would portray a dog i wouldn't want from the shelter.

@Psycogeek a lot of dog owners tend to go for puppies I suppose
cuter, and somewhat easier to train

3:00 AM
we dont have a cat :-)

3:33 AM
heh
If someone told me Leicester City would have won the EPL, last season, I'd wonder what they were on...

3:50 AM
@JourneymanGeek Haha very true. But good on 'em!
Hmm... something is messing with my taskbar on Windows 10.
I can't open the Start Menu or bring up and context menu on open programs.
I wonder if it's DisplayFusion...

5:39 AM
@Bob :D
Also, my dbrand skins should be ariving soon

5:55 AM
hi
@Bob Offworld Trading Company - did we already talk about this and decide nah?

Bob
@allquixotic I don't remember!
Though we could always keep things simple and try to beat a harder AotS AI :P
(Oh, while you were away I finally installed Win10... getting 30fps now, which is kinda playable)

lol

@Bob nice - so it's faster with DX12?

Bob
5:59 AM
@Caterina'Catty'McCatface Lemme know how they go? :P I'm kinda avoiding case purchases for now.

@Bob Will do. I mainly bought them because they weren't a case

Bob
@allquixotic I posted results somewhere above I think - it was about the same in DX11 mode actually. I suspect it's nvidia 364.xx drivers that helped.

Although after this last stint of heavy usage, my S7 has collected quite a number of scratches and dents all over it

Bob
O_O
Mine is still mint, though apparently the home button is very vulnerable to scratching.

@allquixotic There's an actual game with DX12 support already?

6:00 AM
@Bob or maybe you actually need Maxwell to fully benefit from DX12? :P
@Caterina'Catty'McCatface Yeah, Ashes of the Singularity

Oh wow, didn't see that coming

Bob
@allquixotic Eh, going from 15 to 30 fps is already great
It's still GPU-bound
iirc DX12 mostly helps with CPU-bound
@Caterina'Catty'McCatface Very new game.

Problem: crazy RTS game goes full 64-bit and decides to make a ridiculous number of draw calls per unit

@Bob Yours probably hasn't been through the hell mine's been through this past month

Bob
6:01 AM
And very very everything-intensive.

Solution: use 3d API specifically designed to reduce draw call overhead

Bob
It's CPU-intensive. It's GPU-intensive. It's RAM-intensive. Pretty sure it's also disk-intensive though I haven't checked :P

@Bob Ah was that the one that was being used widely as a DX12 benchmark/demo pre-release wasn't it?

Solution (2): Let Nvidia hack around the ridiculous number of draw calls in DX11 by doing under the hood optimizations

Bob
@Caterina'Catty'McCatface Dunno about that but it's got a great built-in benchmark.

6:02 AM
(apparently)

@allquixotic You mean AMD, since Maxwell's async compute is broken

Bob
I'm still on... Pascal Kepler? Whatever the GTX 760 was.

!!no

Pascal isn't even out yet

Bob
6:03 AM
@allquixotic Brainfart.
I blame the cold meds.

it's a Kepler part

@Caterina'Catty'McCatface correct. I actually think most of us bought it cause of the DX benchmark ;p

Bob
Anyway, you guys told me to put off a new GPU purchase for now :P

Derp. I want a new GPU. And a new laptop. And a new monitor.
And a new motorcycle.
However quitting my job doesn't really go very well with any of the above.

6:05 AM
I want a job first ;p
then I can plan for the rest ;p

I'll probably just wait until Pascal or Polaris (depending on which is better) and buy one of those full fat laptops with an MxM GPU and at least 2 SATA bays and load it out with 2 TB SSDs

Bob
@allquixotic Yea, that was the one I was supposed to get next...

@JourneymanGeek if you're willing to move to this craphole I live in you can surely have mine.

Bob
I'll stick with the desktop gaming :P

I am tired of having a desktop

6:06 AM
@allquixotic I'm waiting for Pascal or Polaris and buying a slim laptop

@allquixotic I have a desktop cause I actually enjoy working with hardware

I had to carry my desktop to my car, then from my car to my apartment, then back, to retain gaming ability during my work trip
NEVER AGAIN

With 2.5x perf-per-watt improvements and Polaris 10 being optimized for low-power designs I'm expecting a huge boost in the low/mid-range laptops category

(unless I have to go on another work trip in the immediate near future, in which case I will end up doing it again ._.)

6:07 AM
@allquixotic there's no way in hell I can move my home/gaming setup easily.

yeah but could a slim low-power laptop run Star Citizen? :P

Yanno, dual 27 inch and all that...

After all, current 15w Intel iGPUs are already on par with 35w NVidia DGPUs

@JourneymanGeek oh... for the monitors I used a 1360x768 Best Buy-brand HDTV with an HDMI port in my apartment as a temporary monitor

@allquixotic I'm kinda hoping for low cost USB c docks.

6:08 AM
@allquixotic Can your desktop?

@allquixotic I need my high res screens ;p

@Caterina'Catty'McCatface it has a GTX 980, so, yes -- I don't think Star Citizen's requirements will exceed what a desktop GTX 980 can do

@JourneymanGeek I'm hoping for USB-C docks that can standardize on a format for display return channel, and can power over the USB-C port.
So I don't have to carry a laptop, a USB-C dock, an external power adapter, AND an external monitor just to use it

meaning the next-gen laptop top-end part should equal a GTX 980 in perf

@allquixotic the current gen laptop top end part is a (downclocked) 980?

6:09 AM
You can already get laptops taht equal desktop GTX 980 in perf...
... with like two MXM GTX 980's in SLI and watercooled
Slightly OTT if you ask me

yeah but that's silly... I want one GTX 1080M

typo

They keys are right next to each others...

yeah, I regularly pess um p and m

6:11 AM
MP1080!
I want, one GTX 1040M probably

that sounds like a printer

every graphics card is a printer
it prints to a liquid crystal matrix...
60+ times per second

heh. I was toying with designing a mini itx gaming box...

I wonder if that dell OLED display is out yet
Oooh, I have an HTC VIVE in the living room

Bob
o.O

6:13 AM
So mine can print to a SAMOLED too!

Bob
Oh yea. Walked past the local Microsoft store today... they had a Vive + Steam demo setup.

I wish I had a local Microsoft store so I could get my damn Band fixed

Bob
It was almost half as crowded as the (bigger?) Apple store!
-_-

Hmm not sure whether I should go to work today or just email in my resignation

6:26 AM
That is what it's called right? Letter of resignation? I've never actually had to do this before.

Bob
o.O
That seems... rather sudden.

Nah I said I'd do it in January
I just never grew the balls

@Caterina'Catty'McCatface typically yes
@Caterina'Catty'McCatface got something else lined up?

@JourneymanGeek No

That might potentially suck

6:32 AM
@JourneymanGeek No, that's the whole point

Being unemployed?

I need something to motivate me to get a move on with my life

I think you already have that ;p
(but hey, I've been unemployed since october so I have a clear bias)

I've been unemployed over a year in the past. Mostly by choice.
Well no, once by choice, once by not choice

@JourneymanGeek oct of which year?

6:34 AM
@jokerdino last october

Bob
What was that they say? It's easier to find a job when you already have one?

But a) I've had no trouble finding a job when I didn't have one and b) I have to give 3 months notice, so that's plenty of time to go hunting

@Caterina'Catty'McCatface Ahh true
and depends on the local job market

6:37 AM
RE: "Windows Fails To Start Issue"

Can it be that after using Windows 7 repair startup disk my system constantly checks for it's presence in DVD reader?

Yeah, I did have to move in the second instance, and that's part of why I'm unhappy where I am now.

Bob
@Caterina'Catty'McCatface You don't like the locals?

If it's not there I get BSOD on check. If I take it out before putting laptop on standby, wake up causes system to hang and SDD to constantly stay litten. If I take it before restart, I get what I describe here: superuser.com/questions/1052378/…

@Bob I don't like the local area.

Bob
Ah.

6:39 AM
City or country?

Sounds like expat who would fit in SG.

I like SG, but it's a bit too humid and a bit too expensive.

if SG is humid, what is India.

Dunno, never been.
Also, people follow the law a bit too much in SG for my liking

6:44 AM
It's a fine city.

Sure. But it's too law-abiding

It's a fine city.

lol
I prefer how you can just pay a $5 "fine" to any ol' copper in Thailand to make just about any legal problem go away
The police in SG seem to be ... less corrupt

@Caterina'Catty'McCatface there's a specific agency to handle corruption

questions asking about git usage are they better suited to SO or leave them here?

@Burgi technically on-topic here, better suited for SO, don't migrate unless OP asks for it (though you can suggest, but make sure they don't cross-post)

What did one ocean say to the other ocean?

nothing they just waved
sorry

@Burgi you know it :(
lol

its a christmas cracker joke
they tend to recycle the jokes all the time

Huh. Skyscanner has jobs open in Singapore

also when i was 12 i wanted to be a comedian and went about it by learning every single joke
what i didn't realise is real comedians are actually funny
i was just reciting old used jokes. which are no longer funny

10:21 AM
lol

i think there is a joke half-life

You can be a comedian on the internet by just reciting jokes... No one is gonna be able to see your expression...
except the NSA

vsauce have a great video about the anti-joke and joke theory
joke theory is an actual thing btw

yes
one second @DavidPostill, one second!!!
probably less than that

10:36 AM
@Burgi lol

is that a thing?
genuine question btw...

11:11 AM
@Burgi It has been suggested that it is a cause of suicide (especially in Japan) :/

As someone with asian parents
Its a thing
to some level
I must say, I benefited hugely from chronic underachievement.

i always thought it was hollywood stereotype that could be safely ignored

You know the saying that even myths have some basis in truth?
I think the same might be said about hollywood stereotypes :/

11:27 AM
Well
Actually its a mashup of stereotypes
Its worth considering that many asian immegrants are essentially either the generation that grew up poor
or the first generation after that
And a lot of diaspora folks are of social groups that were upper class or upwardly mobile.
WIth indians, for example, in my parent's time there were three respectable professions.
(now there's four)
Guess what everyone wants to do?
Or work for the government.

lawyer, doctor... ?

Q: Is there an alternative to paying £99 for Windows 10?

TimI don't have Windows right now, but I want to get it. Windows 10 has been advertised as the "free" operating system, and yet it costs £99 in the Windows store, or £72.99 for an OEM. Can I legally get this "free" upgrade any cheaper?

@djsmiley2k doctor, engineer...

11:47 AM
cricketer

hmm, nope

really?

civil servant, bollywood star?

civil servant maybe. Movie stars nope.
Of course you dream of becoming a cricketer or movie star but it doesn't pan out that way.
Compared to a million engineers that are produced each year, regardless of whether or not they are employable.

in the UK all you need to do is jiggle your naughty bits on TV and you are a star

11:51 AM
lol
we dont have a Page 3 here. Too conservative.

its dying out here too
from a job application
> Religious Background (Northern Ireland candidates only)
i never really thought that would be an issue but i guess it would...

@Burgi How about buying it anywhere but the Windows store?

it is still £70 on amazon
the whole question grates against me, i see what he is trying to do but it feels like he is going about it in the wrong way

12:12 PM
Its a free upgrade

12:25 PM
holy shit i got an interview with that local ISP

do it

i had the 1st stage interview last week which i thought went OK but i didn't think i had quite done enough for the 2nd stage
does that make sense?

lol
@Burgi I noticed there's typically a few tells ;p
(like if they mention what the next stage is)
@Burgi go slay em ;)

my normal tell is if they mention salary in the first interview but the 1st stage was so informal it threw me completely

Bob
@JourneymanGeek *avoid actually killing your prospective employer :P

12:34 PM
@Burgi heh, I actually never talked about salary in my last interview

i never mention it, i let them bring it up

Could some moderator undelete this question please so I can provide an answer (was discussing in the comments, my solution worked so OP deleted the question rather than allowing me to add an answer)? Ta :-): superuser.com/questions/1072528/…

i see it as "ah! i've interested you enough for you to see if i fit in your budget"

Big thing I am worried about is references

As far as I'm aware, removing questions like that isn't allowed.

12:36 PM
@cybermonkey you didn't actually answer tho
and I kinda think in this case, its kinda up to the original poster.

@JourneymanGeek see the comments, and my suggestion about syncing the time with the DC worked

You could post the same question and a self answer
@cybermonkey don't answer as comments

@JourneymanGeek but the answer could've been wrong

I also think its one of those topics that slips in the cracks.
@cybermonkey If its plausible post it as an answer anyway.
(with a little more detail of course)

I prefer to ensure that the answer worked for the OP first before providing an answer.

12:38 PM
But it could have helped the next guy
Here's my issue. I reopen it. I have 1. An orphaned question the OP dosen't care about. 2. He isn't going to select an answer.

Yes, and I was writing a proper answer when the OP deleted the question. Of course that meant it removed the answer box.

you can always edit your original answer if the OP gives new information

Does feel like he dosen't get how SE works tho

Bob
@Burgi Then it gets deleted/downvoted as NAA...
That's why I dislike troubleshooting-type questions :\

@Burgi that's the point: the OP deleted the question while I was writing an answer.

12:54 PM
