welp... no dropouts with the LG Volt.

So F5 stopped working in Chrome for me. Anyone have any ideas on that one?

could be Verizon bloatware/malware causing the dropouts... idk

Ctrl+R still works, F5 doesn't seem to do anything

@DavidPostill Funny one! Haha

Other Fn keys work just fine

5:04 PM
@DavidPostill Do you drink green tea?

@OliverSalzburg Still works for me, though I've not updated in a long time
Version 45.0.2454.101 m here

@qasdfdsaq It works fine at work. But it doesn't do anything here at home

Laptop or desktop?

@qasdfdsaq Desktop

5:05 PM
Ctrl+F5 do anything?

What do you mean by dropouts?

Or Shift+F5?
Or F5 using on-screen keyboard (osk)?

Ctrl+F5 works
Let me check OSK

Interesting

Welp...
Seems like yesterdays Windows update broke the Start menu O__o

5:06 PM
o_0
Sounds like it broke more than that...

It opens in the top left corner of the main screen and when I start typing it turns into a black rectangle and then disappears

@R.Doto No. 1 coffee per day and vey occasionally a ginger tea. Why do you ask?

@allquixotic Bloatware - gotta love it; )

@qasdfdsaq OSK doesn't work either

@DavidPostill I'm not too sure. I just feel like I know you from somewhere... hmm

5:11 PM
@R.Doto I have drunk green tea maybe 3 or 4 times in my life - in Chinese restaurants.

@DavidPostill Nasty stuff

@R.Doto Yup. But good for you. lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/…. I just don't really like it.

@DavidPostil I prefer powdered green tea. I think it's called 'matcha tea'. You can add it to fruit juice etc.
@DavidPostill it claimed to be "more powerful"

@R.Doto <shrug>. I'm not interested.

Hmm, what would be the most proactive method to "refresh a bloated and possibly malware packed laptop?
@Dave I'm not following

@R.Doto Reinstall from scratch is the only 100% safe solution.

Q: How can I remove malicious spyware, malware, adware, viruses, trojans or rootkits from my PC?

GnoupiWhat should I do if my Windows computer seems to be infected with a virus or malware? What are the symptoms of an infection? What should I do after noticing an infection? What can I do to get rid of it? This question comes up frequently, and the suggested solutions are usually the same. Th...

@R.Doto Format C:\ /f
Woop woop just got two Raspberri Pi Zero's
Guess my order got in just before they all sold out/got stolen

Hmm, it appears this isn't a Chrome issue at all. F5 doesn't work anywhere

@OliverSalzburg Huh. Even with OSK.
That sounds like Windows might have remapped the key or something
Which is flipping strange

Yeah, when I press the Reload icon in Windows Explorer, the first item will be selected after the refresh. F5 doesn't do anything, even with OSK
Maybe the key is simply broken...
Nope. When I press the Fn toggle, it invokes the "Open" action

5:35 PM
@OliverSalzburg Or you have crumbs under the key cap. Time to get out the compressed air ...

@DavidPostill This keyboard is almost new. Spilled a beer in the previous one recently :(
Or was it a tea?
Something that doesn't belong into a keyboard anyway

@DavidPostill that's what I initially thought too. Atm, she just uses antivirus software for threat control however, she didn't update the software and some malicious program could have slipped through. I was just going to clean up bloatware, then clean up the registry, then clean up residual files from updates and the usual rubbish. Then run a full system scan, including the protected files. Check the outgoing and ingoing and outgoing TCP and IP connections. Lastl, setting some network rulesetc
@DavidPostill She's actively using her laptop so she doesn't want to refresh it properly -.-
@OliverSalzburg do you know if it's hardware related or not?

@OliverSalzburg If that's the case OSK should work. If it's truly stuck unplugging the keyboard and using OSK should still work
So something in Windows must be intercepting it

Well, it's not hardware related. The key itself works. As I said, it invokes the "Open" action when I toggle the Fn key
@qasdfdsaq I agree
And I think I just found it
Mountain Duck

Question is what... Most global key hooks (at least last I programmed any) will not block the keypress reaching the underlying program
Mountain duck?
Ah

@qasdfdsaq I've never heard of any body's OSK malfunctioning

Thanks for troubleshooting everyone :)

@OliverSalzburg you haven't set it to FN lock node have you? ;)
Mode*

@R.Doto Nope. When I do that, it invokes the "Open" action, as mentioned earlier. When I shut down Mountain Duck, F5 works as expected
I still have a pretty early beta or alpha installed and I don't even use it right now. So, meh
Start menu is still fucked though
So that's unrelated

@OliverSalzburg Try reporting it to the developer. Maybe, it's just an integration issue and they can add a patch for it in the next release :)

5:55 PM
@R.Doto Yeah, already on it :)

@OliverSalzburg is there a forum dedicated to Mountain duck?

@R.Doto I just replied to the private beta invite email

@OliverSalzburg I hope it gets fixed soon then :P

@OliverSalzburg Mountain-duckey-oh!

Is it just me that finds 'data' surreal?

6:05 PM
@allquixotic :D
Wow, mar.io is fabulous
And German!

And the natural pronunciation is in the correct Italian!

@OliverSalzburg I forgot to ask: what do you need the F5 for?
F5 key*

Refresh

@R.Doto Well, refreshing web pages mostly ;)

@qasdfdsaq I was thinking; would it be possible to set 'CTRL + F5' as a shortcut for another key? @OliverSalzburg
So, when you press the 'CTRL + R ' key to refresh it registers as pressing the F5 key
Set 'CTRL + R' as a*

6:36 PM
have you tried opening developer tools (F12), and clicking F5. That worked for me before, for no reason at all.

1 hour later…
7:38 PM
WTF Who starred my boobs
comment

It was chatbot
I saw him
Need to get my damn microphone to work in android 6.0
Thought it may have been kernel related.. but i cant find anything that would be missing.
within make menuconfig
it works fine during phone calls though
maybe something misconfigured wtihin the alsa mixer settings?
oh nice
maybe this will work

8:28 PM
@qasdfdsaq what's bad about it being starred?

Bob
9:01 PM
@allquixotic Volt works? LOL
Just gotta add more confusion!

@Bob Certainly appears to. No repro on the dropouts after listening to an entire album (Note 4 would've dropped out 4 or 5 times in that period)

Bob
Wait. Does it support aprX?
...probably not.

and I eliminated the "first-ever connection stability anomaly" (first time ever connecting bluetooth after an OTA is usually fine) by force rebooting the phone and headphones after the initial pair

Bob
o.O
Wait. It can't have anything to do with the NFC pairing, can it?

I love my dupe hammer ;)

9:09 PM
@Bob I never pair over NFC

Bob
Ah.

it might actually be that Android's apt-X implementation is bad, and it's not anything else
though, the Meelec Matrix 1.0 doesn't support apt-X to my knowledge, and those would drop out too
the whole reason I got the Matrix 2.0 was thinking that maybe the first-gen cans were the problem with my Bluetooth stability

Bob
9:35 PM
Hmm.

9:47 PM
@DavidPostill You have a dupe hammer?

10:21 PM
what in the world is a "blinded kernel"?
since when did third-party security software not work on Windows 10?
0
A: Not able to install anti-virus software after upgrading to Windows 10

ultradj83Windows 10 has a blinded kernel so, the only antivirus software that can really deal with kernel and offer solid protection is Windows Defender.

Bob
@allquixotic Ok, I'm ordering the Matrix2 off Amazon :D
Comes to about 80 USD including shipping.
I really want to pick up another cheap SSD for (unofficial-ish) work use. Just to stick a page file onto.

@bob: running sql server?
should show u my cluster here @ work lol

Bob
10:39 PM
@Dave Nope.

Bob
NetBeans, Firefox ... couple other small things.

10:53 PM
I've never been saying they're not compatible. Being the kernel blackboxed third party antivirus cannot see interactions, they can only scan network carried objects and disk read and written objects. They can't access kernel and other apps' memory, so they're just bullshit. — ultradj83 6 mins ago
He contradicts his own answer.
"This helps with understanding the calculation part, how about data retrieval and knowing which operation to perform in the first place? " dear lord.

@Bob Yikes. Well at least you'll have apt-X to play with
@Bob :S

Bob
11:10 PM
@allquixotic Heh. That might be good. Might be bad. Might be no different from just using my existing headphones.
You never did say how comfortable you found the Matrix2.

@Ramhound No he didn't. He said the only AV that can deal with the kernel is Windows Defender. he never said any other AV was incompatible.

@Bob they're over-ear that seem just slightly too oblong to be on-ear, but otherwise I'd consider them closer to on-ear than over-skull like some of those huge monsters
comfort-wise, they're fine for long periods for me, as a person who prefers on-ear but can tolerate over-ear

Bob
Ah, nice.
Looking forward to it :)
Or, at least I would be if I could just go through with the purchase.
I keep feeling like there's something else I can add.
Must be because this is the 'something else' I could've added to the earlier order a few hours prior.
...must be nice to have free (and 2-day) shipping -_-

@Bob I know the feels. :(

11:29 PM
@Bob It's very nice. I realize how lucky I am. I can get in my car and drive from home to an Amazon fulfillment center with an area about 92,902 square meters (1 million square feet) in 22 minutes. The fulfillment center has direct access to the Northeast US primary freight rail system, the Port of Baltimore, and Baltimore-Washington Int'l Airport, a Fedex/UPS hub.
So I'm 22 minutes away from a facility that can wrangle products from just about any bloody place on the globe, by rail, airplane, or boat. And I can order on a Saturday and get my stuff on Sunday.
They have a thousand workers at the fulfillment center.

Bob
@allquixotic Stop trying to tempt me into moving there :P

@MichaelFrank - But what he said was false. Microsoft was going to make that the case, they went through on that threat though, security software still is an elevated kernel process even today. I have never heard of a blened kernel.

@Ramhound That doesn't mean he contradicted himself though.

i suppose not

Bob
Damn. Wanted to add a ZeroLemon battery, but they don't ship here either.

11:43 PM
@Bob Do you have one of those US Address services?

Bob
@MichaelFrank I have one with shipito, but I rarely use them.
The forwarding is damn expensive.
And if I do use them it'll be on specific items, not combined.
The point of combining is to reduce postage costs, but having to pay the forwarder for the larger/heavier package negates any savings.

I have just been restarted! This happens daily automatically, or when my owner restarts me. Ready for commands.
