I mean, I know participation probably isn't that high … but … did they want to make sure I vote? :P

I dismissed the first 90... now there's 46 more

lol

8:13 PM
It's happening to me too...

Oh wait, I'm too late to do the announcement :P

See, you don't even have to pin it yourself @Sathya :P
And wow, there's like a gazillion votes already

@Sathya You're welcome. :P

8:16 PM
@slhck P
thanks guys :) I'll try to sleep.. which I was supposed to do 45 minutes ago

Ah, so I'm not alone :P

And home.... I have been working and commuting to London every day for 6 months (other than bank holidays, I haven't taken any days off)... and, I haven't had a single week where there hasn't been at least one delay... and I have to pay so much for the ticket... drives me bonkers.
right... vented... now, how can I help people's computer problems!?

How long's your commute @Wil?

@Sathya done
@nhinkle approx 1:10 there, 1:30 back - providing no delays

(btw pinging @danielbeck)

8:20 PM
with 3 changes

And... Voted.

@Sathya - When you say vote, does it make a difference between down or up!?
(sorry :P... probably funnier in my head)...

@WilliamHilsum yuck. Last summer my commute was ~1:30, combination of bus, train, and walking

@WilliamHilsum yes, first 10 by vote go through to the final election

Fortunately I had a seasonal transit pass payed by my work, so I didn't have to pay each day

8:21 PM
+1:00 for me too :(
Once had 2:30 commute back, traffic frown

@TomWijsman thanks!

@Sathya sorry - tried to be funny as if you saying to vote, but not what direction!
didn't work... im tired!
@nhinkle ouch! Ok, add 10 minutes to mine for the walk!

@WilliamHilsum lol.. it's 02:00 here ;p my mind's not sharp now ;P

but yeah, annoying as hell - I want to move closer to work

Much better this summer - I'm working on campus, so it's a 5 min bike ride from home.

8:23 PM
@Sathya: Are you going to nominate for ServerFault next year? :D

@TomWijsman hahah /sharpens my BOFH skills ;p

@Sathya no worries!

Anyone know how to make F6 drivers from the Chipset drivers package from Intel? I got a netbook that installs Windows up to the OOBE part before it STOP 0x7b on me, and I'm getting told it's probably the wrong driver. I tried the F6 driver from Intel for the ICH7

How does /review/broken-links work?
Just lists all links or only those that are confirmed by some automatic system to be broken?
Ah rofl, dev only. >__<
Hopefully nobody reports my http://1121752331/ appears in 1 post as broken. :D
Hmm, also, what if a link goes broken after it has been checked? o_O

@TomWijsman they are repeatedly checked

9:08 PM
does windows 7 have run history?

Can't you press ↑ in the Run field?

@slhck Or they plan to be checked? Because a lot of the links just work.
I like the idea, but would be stupid if they implemented it the wrong way...

@slhck well, closest thing to run seems to be clicking start and then there's a box where you can enter things. but pushing the up arrow just moves up one in the start menu and leaves the run box so i'm not sure what you mean
does anybody here use windows 7?

@barlop That box is a search box. If you want history of that then you'll have to find out how to get the search history (which I'm sure is there).

This is rich

Windows can log pretty much anything. Don't know how much is on by default, though.

Q: Is there an exhaustive list of what Windows logs or can log?

Tom WijsmanI know that there is the event log, but that's not where it stops. There are logs for MSI executables, device logs, setup and installation, performance logs, and so on. It's probably quite a long list; however, where can I find such an exhaustive list of what Windows logs? By preference it would...

@TomWijsman Nice.
I do think though that some events might not have a logger built-in and would require another application to log it (like network connections established, etc). Though don't quote me on that. I just remember there being logs for a ton of stuff (and seeing checkboxes for additional logging, like when running in debug mode and stuff, I think).
And of course it knows how to generate crash reports somehow.

Network connections are logged in the event log.
Oh wait... If you mean "made a connection over the network" instead of "connected with network" then you indeed need a network monitor driver.
Like Process Monitor does (through some own / MS driver), or Wireshark (through Pcap).

9:45 PM
Yup
I had to use my firewall once when I was tracking the potential for a malware attack on my computer.
I turned on logging of all incoming/outgoing connections so I could see IP addresses and ports and such

@Sathya you have my vote man :)
@nhinkle whoa, you're kidding.

@nhinkle Nice... And he made the $20,000 in 64 minutes

@Luke yikes

Q: How many RAID controllers do I need?

SniggerI need to make a 50TB RAID array. Now I'm confused! I didn't found any RAID controller that have more than 8 channels (So supports 8 drives (?)). So how can I make an array of 25x2TB drives? Do I need more than one controller? Where is my mistake? Thanks

Scary :P

1 hour later…
link him to the meta post next time?

It took me a while to realize this.
I was just thinking "Didn't you do this already?"

Pretty sure he's aware of the post though
Revision 7 on this post: superuser.com/posts/434832/revisions
Seems like he just doesn't agree.

Bob
@OliverSalzburg Uhm.. so, 25x2TB = 50TB RAID, but it would have to be RAID 0. So, what if 1/25 fails?

11:32 PM
@Bob My main confusion is, this must cost quite a bit of money. Who would put someone in charge of that money if he is that clueless?

@Bob: doom. least it'll be fast as hell when it runs

Bob
11:55 PM
@JourneymanGeek What's he transferring over, fibre? Because even the slowest 2TB HDDs should manage 50MB/s sequential write, which is already over 10Gb ethernet's limitations :P

@OliverSalzburg do you ever sleep!?

@WilliamHilsum Sure
I try to keep it to a minimum though :D
